Shire I'm so sorry. I hope everything is alright and you get to take him home soon.

caz that's quite a story! I'm glad everything is going well.

My dad just started a phone conversation by telling me he say my picture on fb and asking what's wrong with my face. Sad I may have overreacted but I don't think he'll say that again. (He was referring to redness, which is funny because I actually think my skin is as good as it gets right now.)

I was going to go to bf group this afternoon but it would probably take half an hour to walk there and half an hour back and I'm too exhausted. I've made 4 little fish pies and have a slowcooker full of chilli. I froze 8 dinners worth of food yesterday as well. At this rate we won't have to cook again till I'm going back to work.

sisteroutlaw · 15/10/2013 14:40

Oh Shire I'm sorry you're having a shitty time with the feeding and health professionals. DS1 had a high palate and posterior tongue tie - they just called him stubborn Hmm. I paid out for a lactaction consultant, Ann Dobson, at the recommendation of a La Leche League support worker. She spotted the issues, snipped the tie, gave me lots of tips and was very supportive and calming. Turned those first few weeks around.

Congratulations to everyone though! Not been on t'internet much as find being alone in the house a bit lonely so have been over to anyone's house for a Brew. DS1 is still at nursery all day, bar Fridays, until November. Twiddles thumbs.

I'm SC@39+5. Think I'm in denial 'cause this room around me is a tip... The idea of picking up itty-bitty lego simply doesn't appeal. I think I miss the office! Confused x

roofio87 · 15/10/2013 14:46

well me and H made it out on our own, just to a cafe up the road, but I'm feeling pretty pleased! never been in before and the women working there were so nice and said to pop in anytime for some adult interaction!!
shire hope you and Al are alright x

Flyer747 · 15/10/2013 14:57

Delighted to announce the safe arrival of our baby daughter Alexandra, delivered at 1105am weighing in at a very healthy 9lb10.5oz.

sisteroutlaw · 15/10/2013 15:13

Sanjifair · 15/10/2013 15:19

Congratulations flyer!

Lovely name Smile
Hope the blood loss doesn't cause too many problems. I lost 2L with DS and did get quite anaemic.

nat how are you getting on?

OrangeBlossom2 · 15/10/2013 15:42

Congratulations flyer Thanks Sad at the blood loss. Take care.

Shire sorry you have to be readmitted. Hope not for too long and all is ok with A.

roofio87 · 15/10/2013 15:48

ok, I asked on the feeding forum about bottle feeding, but I wanted to ask you guys who are/have ff as well. How do you prepare/make up your feeds? in the day, at night and out and about? I don't know what to do for best. I already feel guilty for not bf (I can't help it!!) and just want to give lo the best I can!!

Slippysnow · 15/10/2013 15:57

Congratulations flyer!
Shire , I'm so sorry you are being made to feel like this I have no advice apart from do what you feel is right and try to ignore unsympathetic people.
Sanji. Do you think your dates were accurate last pregnanc?

Slippysnow · 15/10/2013 16:04

Roofio. In my experience people do really varied things with formula, I've read about people leaving flasks of hot water for night feeds. But there is someone on here that is a food standards inspector and posted a link to the food standards advice for formula if I remember correctly it has to be made up at the right temperature to kill bacteria. Any who I'm jibbering on about something I don't really know about so I'm sure someone will be on to help you better.

Ps. I don't know how much you wanted to spend but tommee tippee do a perfect bottle maker which has good reviews and gets the bottle to the right temp instantly. I think its rrp is £100 but may be worth it for peace of mind and simplicity

legallyblond · 15/10/2013 16:09

Congratulations Flyer!! Welcome Alexandra! Do ask for son iron... I only lost 800mls (they seemed to think that was totally normal) and still was anaemic / needed iron. Re the pain.... I know it's horrid and getting up to see and your first shower is bad.... I nearly passed out. But, I promise it will be MUCH better 24 hours after that first time, then much much better, even approaching normal, 24 hours later again. It would have helped me enourmously with the pain if someone had told me that!!!

legallyblond · 15/10/2013 16:11

Roofio... Most people I know who f fed just used the ready made cartons at room temp and kept a load on the bedroom... Might be safest /easiest?

JellyCurls · 15/10/2013 16:27

Roofio we make bottles up as follows

  1. sterilise bottles and boil a newly filled kettle
  2. once bottles are cool enough to touch we add the boiled water to bottles to correct amount
  3. we add milk powder just before it's needed unless we popping out in that case I will add formula before I leave house
  4. Shake bottle well and feed baby

This time round we feeding with room temperature bottles but prev we have heated up before use.

Hope this helps, might not exactly follow guidelines but no way am I boiling water and letting it cool in middle of night.

Ps my other two kids have survived with no ill effects from eating this way

MorelloKiss · 15/10/2013 16:38

Hi, I don't post ofter, but wave. (SC at 39+6)

There isn't any point in making formula with previously boiled but now cool water, it isn't the water that is dangerous, it is the formula itself. Unless the powder comes into contact with > 70 degree water the risk is there.

Boiling and cooling water before adding formula just won't help

Xx

Sanjifair · 15/10/2013 16:39

slippysnow thanks for replying, yes, my dates were correct last pregnancy and this time too. I just seem to be one of these people who goes over dates :-(

shire sorry you are being re admitted, hope all goes well.

tuckingfits · 15/10/2013 17:02

Me too sanji. 13 days late last time :(. I really don't want this c section next week but I now can't see labour happening naturally. I've already had two sweeps, ach, you've all heard it before. I'm just not very happy & everybody seems to be meeting their babies ahead of me. Me me me me me! Sorry.

Congratulations everyone,I'm keeping up on fb I think, but not here at the moment.xx

tuckingfits · 15/10/2013 17:04

emmoB13 · 15/10/2013 17:27

roofio and jelly i also do up the formula the same way as jelly. Iv been told that the water has to be 70 degrees to kill bacteria in the formula but my baby is coming up to 3 weeks old and is totally fine. Plus having water at that temp and then cooling for EVERY feed, remembering he feeds every 2 hours is not practical. Everyone does it differently, my mum used to do the fridge and microwave routine which is seriously frowned on now but we are all fine. I think the formula companies just have to cover their own backs with their guidelines. To go out i use an advent formula dispenser and just take the sterilized bottles with their tops on and the cooled water in with me in the changing bag. Usually 3 to 4 bottles with me and have some cartons for emergencies (one which occurred the other day where i had the bottles with me but no powder! Sleep deprivation for you).

FeministInTraining · 15/10/2013 17:29

Flowers Shire I can imagine it's definitely easier said than done to follow LLL and NCT advice when MWs are telling you the opposite. Try not to let them make you feel rubbish though, I really hope you get a lovely understanding and supportive MW who helps you establish BF.

Congratulations Flyer she's a big girl! Love the name, it was on our list. And we had similar bumps- not a boy bump after all. The special brew drinkers know nothing! Grin
Hope you and Alexandra are being fussed over by DP.

40+1 SFW. Going for a walk to the chip shop later.

chickieno1 · 15/10/2013 17:32

Sorry you have to be re admitted shire. Fingers crossed things get sorted out for you ASAP xx

Congrats flyer!! Hope CS was ok for you and little Alexandra's tests are all clear Flowers

Cake and Flowers to sanji and tucking

Hope everyone's ok xx

Sanjifair · 15/10/2013 17:37

Thanks tucking it's so frustrating, isn't it. Sounds like we are in a similar position. Will get there eventually but hard not to feel down about it at the moment.

Haylebop12 · 15/10/2013 17:40

roofio I also did as jelly did. In the evening I would sterilise the bottles and add boiled water. I would then store all bottles in the cupboard until they needed using (always within 24 hours though) and add formula as needed. Therefore at room temp and also was given to dd at room temp. Ds has been having the odd formula out and about bit I'm lazy and use cartons at that point! However as a long term option that would be very costly!

Will catch up later as time is of the essence... Can't believe all the babies!
