Hello! Just popping in to say that baby Laurie was born on Friday 11th, 8lb 9oz at 38 and 3 days. Had a planned section due to placenta praevia for the 14th but contractions started on the thursday so ended up with what they call a 'semi-elective'. Back home yesterday and both fine - he's lovely Grin. Look forward to catching up on where people are at over the next few days Smile.

ananikifo · 15/10/2013 09:12

Congrats diege!ThanksThanks

OrangeBlossom2 · 15/10/2013 09:14

Congratulations diege. Thanks so glad going into labour before your section didn't cause problems with your placenta. That's a very good size at 38 weeks, sounds like he was definitely ready!

Woohoo the sleep textbook! Good to hear you are looking after yourself roofio. It is very important!

roofio87 · 15/10/2013 09:19

congrats diege glad you're all home.
textbook what a difference a good night can make!
yes trying to keep myself in check making sure I'm eating good energy foods otherwise I'd go all day without eating without realising!!

Readyasilleverbe · 15/10/2013 09:28

Congratulations diege, great news. Thinking of you today flyer, quite exciting now!
Good luck nat, hope things get going.
Weldone to all those coping amazingly with the challenges of a new born, feel very fortunate to be able to learn so much from you all before mine arrives.
Feeling emotional today. Struggling with monitoring movements, can feel baby reasonably regularly so a sure that's fine but no idea what's 'normal' for my baby, doesn't seem to have any pattern that the mid wives talk about. Really just want it here safe and sound. I know that there are lots more worries to come after baby arrives but just feel so responsible and like I have so little control over its well being. Sorry for waffle, feel like its easier to off load here than, not good at being outwardly stressed/ out of control in real life!
Off for a nice walk in the sun with a friend so that should help humour!
Thinking of everyone sc, swil, owt and ip. And everyone else! Xx

claphammama · 15/10/2013 09:28

congrats diege! such a good size for this gestation.

terrible night of no sleep here so back in bed after the school run... hoping for to catch up on my zzzzz....

Flyer747 · 15/10/2013 09:38

Stop talking about food and biscuits I'm soooo hungry Grin

So it looks like I will be going into theatre for 11am. There is only another lady and myself booked in today.

I have my own private room it's lovely here, and they've just been round to show me the dinner menu Grin it's like a blimin hotel here, might stay a little longer.

Everyone so lovely and so far a nice calming experience.

Congratulations Diege Thanks
Glad all went ok in the end with the placenta.

Nat I hope you have your baby today and soon...it's a race to the finish line for us two Grin

I hope everyone is ok. Roofio glad to hear you are feeling good today, and we should def meet up once my little arrival is here. I was going to suggest doing some mother baby things with you if you fancied it.
I'm not at all jealous that you are back to pre pregnancy size Smile

Epic post here!

Flyer747 · 15/10/2013 09:43

Ready do you have an anterior placenta? Only reason I ask is a lot of the October bus had one and it has effected a few us having reduced movements some days. The MW was listening into my baby with some trumpet looking Doppler device a short while ago and said "oh it's moving lots, can you feel it?" And I couldn't feel a thing obviously because my big fat placenta is in the way.

diege · 15/10/2013 09:50

Thanks guys! Yes, was v.lucky to have no bleeding while contracting. Did have a pph in theatre though (1, 300 mls) as placenta was anterior in the end so had to cut through. Feeling miles better today though Smile
Flyer good luck for today!!! Where are you by the way - sounds like the Portland Grin.

pinkbuttons · 15/10/2013 09:59

Congratulations diege sorry to hear about pph but galad your feeling a bit better today.

Good Luck flyer glad hospital is lovely.
roofio wow thats amazing. do you know how much you put on in pregnancy? I havent looked yet think might wait a couple of weeks. but also jealous you could go the day without noticing you hadnt eaten Im starving all the time!

ready your worries arent silly at all, I felt exactly the same. It felt like a lot of pressure to be in charge of something so precious at the end, I would say if you have any doubts just get checked to make yourself feel better. and honestly my anxiety is so much better now that baby is here and I can share the responsibility of caring for hwr and can just look and check shes ok.

Also with regards to placenta am not surprised they can block movement. Midwife showed us it after Isla was born and its huge! also got to see where it was a bit gritty from being overdue. Was amazing really.

Thinking of all those SC, SFW, SWIL, IP and possibly LIT.

textbook · 15/10/2013 10:01

Massive congratulations diege ThanksThanksThanks Glad to hear your placenta was well behaved! Us placenta praevia people have been very lucky on this thread Smile sorry to hear about the pph though, hope you're doing ok x

roofio87 · 15/10/2013 10:33

Eek flyer you're going to meet your baby so soon. Can't wait to see if you get a girl or boy, my guess is girl!! haha. a future girlfriend for Hunter!! yes we'll defo do something with the babies once we're both recovered and settled!!
pink not sure how much I gained because my scales broke towards the end of pg ha!!

Shirehobbit · 15/10/2013 10:57

Good luck Flyer and hope things are going well for Nat

I'm having a major wobble today - midwife is making an extra visit (day 8) as she was worried about Al's weight loss at day 5. Feel like I'm really letting him down Sad

OrangeBlossom2 · 15/10/2013 10:58

Shire sorry you are bit having such a good day today. someone put a post on Facebook about inaccuracies of baby weights on different scales/ after fluids etc. did you see it?

OrangeBlossom2 · 15/10/2013 10:59

Ooh flyer should be OWT right now. Good luck!

Shirehobbit · 15/10/2013 11:07

I've read all the La Leche League and NCT stuff in support of inaccurate scales and over concern about weight loss, Orange and spoken to lovely ladies on both helplines, but I just don't have the mental strength or energy to argue back with the midwives. They just make me feel so inadequate and that I'm not providing enough/feeding well enough to look after my baby. It's such an overwhelming feeling.

OrangeBlossom2 · 15/10/2013 11:20

Thanks Thanks shire

Sanjifair · 15/10/2013 11:56

Congratulations diege!
Good luck flyer.

I'm feeling rather sorry for myself. Just had sweep at midwifes, but she couldn't do it properly as could only fit 1 finger in as cervix still long and thick. So still unfavourable. At least baby is engaged now, even if only 2/5. I've requested a consultant appointment to request early induction as I don't want to wait until 40+12, for a couple of reasons. Firstly when I had DS after induction at 40+12 when he came out at 40+14 my placenta was described as 'gritty and starting to fail'. Secondly, I am 3 years older and nearly 40. They induce at 39-40 weeks if you are over 40 here, which makes me even more concerned due to the state of my placenta at 42 weeks 3 years ago.

I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place tbh, I really really don't want an induction, it was a nightmare last time with intervention after intervention. But I also don't want to go to 42 weeks again for the reasons above. Aargh, why can't I just go into labour naturally???

Sorry about the me me me post :-(

roxvox · 15/10/2013 12:08

Ladies putting up with cluster feeding/sore nipples - I'm sure you've probably already got this - but I would really recommend Lansinoh lanolin cream. Plaster it on after every feed! I had some, but neglected to use it and was starting to get sore, but after just 24 hours of applying it religiously after every feed my boobs are already starting to feel much better!

AnythingNotEverything · 15/10/2013 12:17

Oh Shire - I'm so sorry the midwives are making you feel that way. You'd thinking working with hormonal women would make them more sensitive.

If you can, explain everything in a post in the breast feeding topic. There's a poster called tiktok who offers the most fabulous advice.

Mostly, she says don't be pressured into formula top ups. There's often no evidence that there is any issue with you supply, but top ups can cause problems with supply which then make it look as if supply was the issue IYSWIM!

If you want to continue with bf, make sure the midwives help you maintain your supply while you do whatever you need to keep the LO happy.

moonblues · 15/10/2013 13:09

Flowers shire sorry your struggling with feeding and the midwives are making you feel bad. I posted yesterday on a thread Heffalump started, she posted on antenatal thread before, but I think hasn't for a while. It sounds like she's in a similar position to you. Not sure I can link it as I'm on my phone, but will try to if I manage to get on the computer later.

Cormac has been slow to gain weight too. I'm trying not to get stressed about it and just try to feed frequently. Midwife coming back out to weigh him again tomorrow. He lost nearly 10% and had only put on 10oz last time he was weighed, but as long as he isn't losing I'm sure we'll get there in the end. He's a bit jaundiced and sleepy, which isn't helping, but hoping it will brighten up enough to take him out for a walk this afternoon and get a bit of sunshine.

Congratulations diege and hood luck Nat and flyer

cazboldy · 15/10/2013 13:15

Hi Ladies

Have been dipping in and out in a vain attempt to keep up to date with all the new arrivals, but since the arrival of our little one have not had a spare minute when something didn't need doing, someone didn't need feeding, or some visitor wasn't here clamouring for my attention to post!

Tbh the baby has been an absolute treasure and has slotted into our family so well, I am thrilled with her and totally in love - it's just all the other stuff and people that go along with it! And I know that makes me sound like a right miserable cow Grin I just don't want to be forced out of my new baby bubble and want to keep her all to myself!

Labour and birth were straightforward, but quite dramatic!

Contractions started at midnight. Not regular,(8 min, then 13, then 7....) or lasting more than 45 sec, quite painful.

At about quarter past one I just couldn't get comfy in bed anymore, and didn't want to wake everyone up by pacing around, so went and got in the bath. Called dh to come and sit with me at about 1.45 as they were really starting to hurt. Had 2 contractions 5 mins apart, and decided we should call the mw, so did at 1.55.am.

had 2 more 5 mins apart, then the next one didn't stop! literally just one massive long contraction with no let up. Baby born after 3 pushes, in the bath, delivered myself at 2.15 am Smile wrapped her in a towel and put a hat on her and snuggled her on my chest where she set to suckling within minutes Smile

then the mw's didn''t turn up for another 40 mins!!!! and the hosp (where they were coming form is only 20 mins away, so in theory they should have made it within mins of the birth even though she arrived so speedily!) pains to deliver the placenta were excrutiating! - worse than labour, which panicked dh, esp with all the talk of me bleeding etc. but it came away about 30 mins after baby had been born.

When they got here they were very apologetic, and showed me that it was written right across the front of my notes that I have fast labours and to leave quickly..... so not sure what the hold up was!!!

but the main thing is we were both fine Smile

she is feeding well, my milk has come in, and when weighed yesterday she had only lost 20 grams, so very pleased with that.

all her brothers and sisters are besotted with her Smile

she never wants to be put down, but this is only a problem at night, as she never gets the chance until everyone goes to bed!

still working on a name.

off to try to catch up properly instead of just telling you all about me!!

cazboldy · 15/10/2013 13:27

Huge congrats to all the other new mums, and welcome to all the lovely new babies.

flyer good luck today xxx

Hope all is going well for Nat xx

Shire am sorry you are having a tough time. all i can suggest is waking him for feeds if he is sleepy, maybe changing him mid feed to wake him up and make him feed a bit longer. (sorry if you are doing this already) xx

pseudo try rubbing the hard bits during feeds xx

roofio87 · 15/10/2013 13:53

caz wow, well done you for delivering her yourself!! glad baby is doing well!

Shirehobbit · 15/10/2013 13:53

We're being re-admitted for a few days as they want to run some tests on Al. Will let you know how we get on. x
