Hi all
sorry not posted this week since joining. Just logged on to check how everyone is doing. I feel worried as I still have no morning sickness at 7 weeks - I suppose I should never say never though and count my lucky stars. The feeling of being hit by a bus is however making up for this and I am suffering with constant heartburn for the first time in my life - so much for the healthy diet I am following - anyone got any tips besides the usual? Also had a lot of tummy cramps which have raised my panic levels as a first-timer; when I had my mc at 13 weeks I had bad cramps then...sorry I think I am being a stresshead today...must be the hormones! Have a relaxing weekend all - hope the ms is bearable to all those suffering...

Jaysecond · 11/08/2006 19:48

Welcome K1w1 and Puzzle, more newbies! March is going to be a real busy time for that stork!!!!

Babycakes, dont worry about not having MS, i didnt have any at all with my first, and all was fine and dandy, with DD coming into the world a sizable 9lbs 5ozs! MS doesnt have to be the only indictaion that things are happening in there!

Chitchat, hope you are feeling better soon, nothing worse than flu, except flu combined with MS [YUK EMOTE]

Piffle, good luck with the week, its horrid when the other half has to work away, mine does too sometimes, thankfully he hasnt had to for a few weeks but i do know how it feels, keep posting, we will keep your mind off of it with mindless banter!

Nova, none of those apply to me at all....erm maybe the drinking bit ( mostly at weekends) but then, that all stopped about 3/4 yrs back, so i dont think i can attribute any of it to my MS... I reckon some people just get it...and some dont. I am however an advocate of trying anything and everything to prevent it!

My MS hasnt been bad today, in fact i think its getting less (crosses fingers legs and eyes!!) Mind i am nearly 10 weeks so i guess its at that point of subsiding.

TidyJane · 11/08/2006 20:24

Babycakes, it's totally normal to worry we all do
Please do not worry about the lack of MS, with my first pregnancy I hardly got it at all, just very mildly in the evenings, on the other hand I got really bad heartburn! So I'm sure that's a good sign (although admittedly really unpleasant, especially when you get it all the way through pregnancy).
You'll be fine!

fatfox · 12/08/2006 09:39

Howdee y'all, can I join you?

Hope I'm not tempting fate by joining your thread , as my last PGcy ended in MC.

Due date 3 March 07.

Have an NHS nuchal scan on Friday 18th and then a Fetal Medicine Centre scan/bloods integrated test on Monday 21st (have the weekend to dwell, if NHS nuchal gives a bad result). Am paranoid about the scans, due to my age. Anyone else got their 12 week scans soon, or just had one? How did it go?

Tummy pooched out at 10 weeks and having real difficulty hiding it. Have about three tops which hide it so have to rotate those until its safe to tell my news (13 weeks, after scans?). Is anyone else showing yet, the early Marchers maybe?

Am on leave now until 22nd (day afer FMC scan, which is a blessing as I can't concentrate), but work full time and have been really crap the last few weeks - nauseaous, weepy, tired and can't stop day dreaming about babies and maternity clothes. My new boss has just agreed compressed hours for me, so I now have to tell him I'm pregnant as well!!!

Found out sex of last two babies, so will again this time - too impatient to wait 40 weeks and like to spend weeks listing names, buying girl/boy clothes etc.

Has anyone had a CVS or amnio in the past? The risk of MC is 1%, does anyone know anyone who actually did MC after the tests?

Have book club tomorrow, so will have to use one of the suggested excuses for why I don't drink my usual bottles-worth of wine! On the subject of which, drank heavily on hols in first weeks of first pregnancy. Told GP and he said, "oh don't worry about that, some of my other patients were taking E and it didn't so them any harm"!

Look forward to getting to know you all....

dixia · 12/08/2006 11:24

Welcome fatfox . I'm due on March 15th, so am only 9+2 and am not showing yet. I live in Spain and am away from home for a month from tomorrow, so I actually won't have my first scan until 14 weeks. So I can't really help you on that front. But I am of the opinion that drinking doesn't really do much harm to the baby (I'm obviously not talking about getting legless every night). I've had bad MS and did with my first pg also. I found one of the only things I wanted then and now is lager. Ah, well - good excuse for a small evening tipple! Also, I am 30 so will have no need for an amnio or other things (was only 26 with ds).

Jay & Profyaffle, I think my MS is easing up a bit too. I haven't thrown up at all today (yet) and that is a first! I'm feeling quite positive as I go on holiday tomorrow - heading for the sunny UK and I will be able to get out of this oppressive heat. Hoorah!

k1w1 · 12/08/2006 11:50

Thanks for all the welcomes.
yep I am a kiwi, but have been in UK for over 7 years. DH is English.
Feel sorry for everyone with bad MS.. but I hear it's a good thing for the plancenta?? I'm also worried like babycakes26 that I don't have strong MS. Although the sore breasts, tiredness and hunger are a constant reminder I actually am pg!

puzzle · 12/08/2006 12:23

I am due 7 March so am now 10 +3, and have started showing too, fatfox.
I cant believe how quickly it has happened because didnt show until about 20 wks with DD. And am quite slim everywhere else so it is starting too look quite obvious.
Now worried I will have an enormous baby - ouch!

Piffle · 12/08/2006 12:41

I had no m/s with my first child, and he is a glorious healthy 12 year old boy now!
DD is equally glorious even though I threw up constantly...
I am just doing the delightful thing of dry retching about 15 x a day atm...
8 wks tomorrow, is this when it peaks I heard?
Kiwi where in the NZ were you from? I have bene here 9 yrs and was from Wellingtom but have lived all around :

chitchat07 · 12/08/2006 14:09

Kiwi - welcome to a fellow antipodean! I'm a former Aussie, moved over 4 years ago.

Jaysecond - glad you're starting to feel better.

Babycakes - I feel jealous! But enjoy your MS free PG, as apparently around 30% of women don't suffer any. Just feel lucky!

Piffle - not sure about it peaking at 8 weeks. I'm ending my 9th week and it is getting worse everyday. Just read the NHS website, and week 10 is when your hormones are at their highest, so more likely to feel ill.

Fatfox - My scan is due on the 31st August. I think the age is the biggest concern for those who have not had any children before, and you have, so don't worry too much.

Puzzle - please oh please don't make me worry about a big baby! I'm also showing a bit, but I'm just trying to hold onto the belief that its the water retention...!!

That NHS site is really good - I'm at the end of 9 weeks, and my baby is now officially a foetus, and it now has a facial features!!!! Oh and apparently it now responds to light and sounds, so I've got classical music playing in the background. Supposed to be good for both mum and baby!

fatfox · 12/08/2006 20:02

Hi and thanks for the welcomes

Agree with ChitChat about the MS - mine always peaks at 10 weeks and then slowly subsides, dissappearing at about 13 weeks.

Piffle, I also had no MS with DS, but did with DD. Was a lot hungrier with DS and craved fried egg sandwiches with brown sauce (sorry if that makes anyone gag at this sensitive time), but lost appetite with DD. My only cravings this time have been orange ice lollies and piles of mashed potato. Not together mind...

Dixia, agree the odd glass doesn't hurt at all and a cold beer or three was lovely in the heatwave wasn't it? At the moment though, alcohol actually makes me feel ill!!! Does anyone remember when women used to be prescribed stout when pregnant, for the iron. Lovely, but must make you even more constipated!!!

DollyP · 12/08/2006 20:24

Welcome fatfox

Everyone I know who has had amnio has been fine afterwards, just taken it really easy for a couple of days with someone to look after current children and a few dvds. Most described it as a bit unpleasant but nothing compared to labour etc . Are you definitely going to have one? I am an older mummy too (37 next month) and am going to see what the nuchal / blood test comes up with. If the results are not in my favour, then I'll decide. IMO only worth doing if you would terminate for Downs, but I do know one woman who just wanted to be forewarned. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I can't wait for the time when I fancy a beer! At the moment I think I am as likely to win the lottery as be able to stomach one! My MS passed at 14 weeks last time, so only 6 weeks to go if it's the same. Haven't done anything today, or really eaten anything either. DH just whipping up some mash for me, so hope that will make me feel better.

Hope everyone is doing OK. XXX

fatfox · 12/08/2006 20:57

Well hello Dolly

Yes, I'm still on here, cruising the threads so to speak. DH is bathing the little monsters while I type. I also did nothing today, too tired and too sick and bad tempered.

I deffo won't have an invasive test if I can avoid it, as the thought terrifies me - well, the risk of maybe mistakenly losing a healthy baby terrifies me. If I get a VERY high risk result I'll probably have a CVS at the Fetal Medicine Centre, as it can be done now and they can give a result for Downs within 2 days. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Thanks for your support - your amnio outcome cheered me. This site is totaly addictive isn't it? Is this what young people mean by "chat rooms?"

flannelettepyjamas · 13/08/2006 00:28

Hi Fatfox, welcome
I had an amnio with my last pregnancy.
My DD has a small hole in her heart and we were quoted a 1 in 10 risk of chromosomal abnormality. We opted to have one.
Thankfully it was normal.
It was not especially unpleasant.I had some slight crampy pain afterwards which is entirely normal.
The waiting for the result was awful - the worst 2 days of my life so far!
I have not heard of anyone personally who has had a misc after amnio. The risk is 1 in 200 for amnio and 1 in 100 for CVS.
In experienced hands the risk is actually said to be lower than this (but you may not know whether the 'hands' are experienced or not, and they would not actually tell you that the risk is lower).
I'm 37 and am considering an amnio this time regardless of nuchal scan result. I guess I feel that I've 'broken the barrier' now with amnio.
It would obviously be devastating though to miscarry afterwards.

eidsvold · 13/08/2006 07:14

posted on the other thread so can come out on this one too....

am due 30 Mar - will be my third - already have 2 dd's - one 4, other 2 in Nov. Eldest has down syndrome and a congenital heart defect.

dixia · 13/08/2006 08:44

Welcome Eidsvoid , congrats on your pg. I'm sorry to hear about your dd1's problems. Is it very different caring for your first dd than your second? As you may have seen, we are currently discussing amnios and risks of downs, I'm sure your contribution will be very welcome.

Well girls, I'm off on holiday today! So pleased I am feeling a bit better so that I can cope with the travelling. We are driving up through spain today and tomorrow then spending a couple of days around the pyrenees. We then get on the Bilbao/Portsmouth boat for two days and arrive in the sunny UK on Friday. We are then spending 3 weeks in Scotland and England and I will be checking in sporadically.

Hope everyone has smooth sailing in the next few weeks and that MS eases.

babycakes26 · 13/08/2006 11:02

Hi all
hope you are enjoying the weekend and welcome to Eidsvold, Fatfox and Kiwi. Thanks TidyJane for the reassurance on the ms

As one of the later due dates (31st March) I feel a little behind everyone else so it is good to hear your experiences (especially second time mums). However, now got my nuchal scan date - booked for 14th Sept - seems ages away but then again I am only 7.5wks. Feeling quite good today and more awake than usual! Been having bouts of awful dizziness last few days though...anyone else experienced this? I am eating regularly to keep BS levels up.

babycakes26 · 13/08/2006 11:04

Forgot to say have a lovely break Dixia - sounds like a nice trip - the weather has cooled off significantly over here in UK so you should have some cool nights to get some good sleep in

ProfYaffle · 13/08/2006 14:15

Hi and welcome to Fatfox and eidsvold.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but has anyone else heard that egg shaped coats are meant to be the hot trend for the winter? Made me ROFL until I realised that as I will be mostly egg shaped this winter, maybe they'll be mightly useful!

Piffle · 13/08/2006 18:35

Eidsvold!!!! You sly fox you
Congrats!
I know this might sound a little cheeky, but a bit like your dd my dd has Noonan Syndrome and a mild heart defect
It actually makes me less likely to test for any "abnormality"
I know like my dd your dd has been a delight as well

I was tragic today, I knew I could not face cooking this week when dp is away. So I said I'll have to buy easy/ready meals.
And I will only buy Waitrose ones (no evil things in them)(diva snob moment)
So we went and I shamed myself by buying awfully strange mixes of things
I cannot believe I even paid for bubble and squeak
Roll on feeling better

puzzle · 13/08/2006 20:39

Good evening everyone.

Babycakes - I have been feeling dizzy and sometimes faint too. I think this is partly because I have really low blood pressure. Midwife told me to drink lots of water to keep my blood volume up, which I find very difficult. Maybe you could try this and see if it helps?

Have a great break dixia.

Good luck for your journey Dixia, and welcome back to Blighty .

Hadn't heard about the egg shape coat, Prof. I am not sure following fashion is an option when you are hugely pregnant. Still, as we will all be egg shaped, maybe this is the time! What else are we all supposed to be wearing? Not more spots I hope!

Welcome Eidsvold, good to have you on board.

Babycakes, I frequently feel dizzy, either as well as or instead of feeling sick! I think it is to do with not eating much and generally having hormones in chaos. Also your BP drops in early pregnancy which can lead to fainting and dizziness. It's completely normal. Remember that before sensitve pg tests existed, women used to find that they felt faint while waiting for AF and then would suspect that they are pg. I just stop what I am doing and try to wait for it to pass. An emergency rich tea biscuit or tic tac also helps. .

Felt hideous today. Took DD to the park and had to heave in the bushes . Then went to the pub for a cheeky diet coke and couldn't really manage it. Was out in the garden but still felt poorly just seeing people with pints of beer and glasses of wine!! Honestly, am turning into a complete killjoy.

Piffle, I think the ready meals sound fab, esp if from Waitrose. Glad you are feeling better and a bit more like food. Hope everyone else is doing OK too.

Hi all!
So nice to see everyone blooming! I'm feeling loads better now and actually can laugh at your msgs of strange eating habits and pukiness ( in the nicest sense)without feeling jealous. Of my friends, 3 recently had baby (in last 4 weeks) and 2 are PG. Was hard at first but I'm ok now.

Will be keep ing my eye on you all and lol PIffle at you comment on buying bubble and squeak! I thought this was the only way it came, in a wrapper!!!!

DollyP · 13/08/2006 21:02

Ladybump, it's good to hear from you! Glad you are feeling so well and positive. Thanks for thinking of us all - much appreciated. Take care and keeping my fingers crossed for some good news for you soon XXXXX

fatfox · 14/08/2006 07:44

Good morning everyone

Congrats Eidsvold and welcome to March posse.

DollyP - sorry to hear you are feeling so sick, its roten isn't it. I don't acually vomit and feel really sorry for those of you that do. Just tucked into a delicious breakfast of dry cream crackers and mineral water. Luvverly...

Babycakes, I've had very bad dizziness with all three pregnancies, had to have iron supplements for DS six years ago, as I kept almost fainting, specially in over-hot shops, which plays havoc with the retail therapy. GP said its due to low blood pressure and slight anemia. If it carries on after 12 weeks it may be worth geting bloods checked for anemia. Iron works, but makes the constipation worse I'm afraid.

Ladybump, I joined after you left but its really good to hear from you as I read your earlier postings. Its good to see you're OK and looking forward, onwards and upwards as they say.
Will try and do smiley face thing now:
