Morning all. I've finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself. I've put on a whopping 3 3/4lb!!!!! I'm 1/4lb off what I weighed when I got pregnant with both the boys and I'm almost halfway through!! Guess there's my permission to eat more!

The last 3 nights have been unwelcome reminders of life with a baby. 2nights ago ds2 wet the bed at 3.30, then the night before last he woke up screaming because he hurt his ear and last night he wet again at 2.30! By the time I'd sorted him out I was wide awake. I have no idea why, he's been dry day and night since I potty trained him at Easter. Dh has a wonderful knack of not hearing him until I've already gone.

IceNoSlice · 25/09/2013 08:46

Morning all. I'm working from home today so might wander down to the butchers later for some lunch after all this red meat chat. Joll did you manage to resist eating Vera?

MummyPig24 · 25/09/2013 09:08

I could go for a juicy steak right now. I will have to make do with my cornflakes.

commsgirl · 25/09/2013 09:10

Morning all.

I've come in to work today in normal tights instead of maternity ones. Not a comfortable situation.

Lumpy definitely calls for chocolate!

Rock impracticality is definitely my worry with a girl. I don't know if I could resit the frills. Saw some really pretty sleepsuits in H&M the other day though.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 25/09/2013 09:30

gawjus, some places they do listen in for the heartbeat and some they don't because it can be hard to find at that stage which can then cause unecessary worry. (And the NICE guidance says not to bother at all unless the mother requests it because there's no evidence of clinical benefit.)

lumpy, I find that if I kick DH for long enough he hears. In fact it must have a magical improving effect on hearing as I rarely need to do that any more.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/09/2013 09:31

Baby is a mango this week, apparently. Or a Smarties Easter Egg.

Jolleigh · 25/09/2013 09:33

Morning Everyone Grin

Ice - Vera is alive and well...I settled for some pringles instead. Not what I was craving but it stopped my stomach rumblings. Next time, Vera may not be so lucky...

I clearly triggered some cravings in people with my ramblings last night. All I can say in my defence is at least it's not pie butties again Wink

Prambo · 25/09/2013 09:59

OwlAtTheMoon, congrats on hearing your baby's heart beat! My midwife couldn't come as she was stuck in a meeting: 'but I was only coming to do a heart beat visit, wasn't I?' Yes, Janice, you were only coming to reassure me that my baby is still alive after the pain and shock of my missed miscarriage last year Hmm

Cassiopeia01 · 25/09/2013 10:00

Am in London today for lunch (it's for work. It's a tough tough life I lead...) going to a restaurant that specialises in beef. After all you rare beef chat all I want is steak tartare. Possibly my fav meal ever. Instead I will have to hope they have something braised. I just cannot bring myself yo eat well done steak. Worst case I might have to go veggie... Doom Hmm

NoMaybeAboutIt · 25/09/2013 10:02

Jolls if it helps, we are off to gauchos for our anniversary in a few weeks. Have a look at the menu Wink. I'd better bloody be able to eat by then.

Lyra mango or Easter egg.... I know which one I'd rather eat

Prammy fish fingers ain't what they used to be. I swear they've shrunk. Make thee some home made ones. Just make ManPram wear a white beard for an authentic experience.

I'm watching the dog chase a fly. That is how exciting my morning is....

NoMaybeAboutIt · 25/09/2013 10:03

Cassie I point blank refuse to easy well done steak. I still have it rare. Its a risk I'm willing to take!

Pram did she reachedule?

Prambo · 25/09/2013 10:13

Yes, Marbie, she 'reacheduled' Grin Monday 'at lunch-ish' Hmm Fishfingers are not the only produce to have shrunk: have you had a Twix lately? Fucking preposterous what they've done there. After Eights are now the size of a bastard stamp. I get really cross about it all.

You all know I cook home made every single night, don't you? Well, there is no way I would ever lower myself to make home made fishfingers. What the frig do you think Tescos is for?

WE HAVE A HOUSE!!! I've managed to convince the landlord of the ex-council house to lower the rent and replace the carpet in the lounge. He said I can take 'a [singular] cat'. I'm taking two (take that, you bastard). Th'estate agent wants £75 each for me and th'usband for credit checks. Fuck knows what they're going to find there....

Cassiopeia01 · 25/09/2013 10:13

Ooh. I love gauchos. They do some lovely Malbec. Man. I miss wine. And they do amazeballs creamed sweet corn. I am actually drooling thinking about it.

Jolleigh · 25/09/2013 10:20

I have steak a lot less frequently but I flat out can't bring myself to overcook the meat. I've decided that providing I'm not gorging on raw meat of unknown origin all the time the risk is probably minimal.

Very jealous of NoMaybe going to gouchos...just had a look at the menu and it actually turned me on (though I won't be telling the Mister that as I've been promised a nice rough seeing to later Wink )

LyraSilvertongue · 25/09/2013 10:21

Fantastic news on the house, Prambo. Is it online? Can you link it on fb maybe so we can have a sneaky peek?

I had some some Tutti Fruttis at the weekend (remember them?) and they were less than half the size they used to be. Grrrr.

karamcleod · 25/09/2013 10:22

What are the actual risks of eating rare meat, food poisoning? Cause I can safely say I have NEVER been ill from eating a rare steak if you but good quality then surely you can eat it however the fuck you like!
I just had a fried egg sanny for my breakfast. With runny yolk. If I get ill I will go mental because I paid A LOT of money to vaccinate my hens and surely that rule only applies if you eat scummy eggs from a supermarket?

Pram it wasn't you who said my baby looks like a sea lion on facebook was it?? I'm not very good at knowing who is who yet.

Prambo · 25/09/2013 10:28

Yeah, Kara, that was me. Don't worry, I won't club it.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 25/09/2013 10:38

Oh Pram amazing news! When do you move?

Joll brilliant news on the seeing too front Wink. Nothing like a bit of meat porn to kick things off!

Cassi I miss wine too. I've had a couple if tiny thimbles full. It tastes so much better!!

Kara I figure if you know the meat is good there aren't any risks. I love a runny egg. If they're vaccinated, no worries at all!

Rockchick1984 · 25/09/2013 10:39

Kara you can get toxoplasmosis from rare or raw meat, doesn't matter what the quality is like. It is basically symptomless unless pregnant then it can (in rare cases) be fatal for baby or cause birth defects etc. Many people are already immune to it, and even if you catch it while pregnant it doesn't transfer to baby in all cases but if it does then things aren't good. Its one of those stupid things, majority of people would be fine but if you were the unlucky one then you wouldn't care about all the rest. I can see why its a risk plenty of people take but personally I only like well done steak so it's not an issue for me!! With eggs, if from vaccinated chickens then salmonella isn't a risk, can still get other food poisoning from runny whites but yolk should be fine :)

Rockchick1984 · 25/09/2013 10:40

Yay for the house Pram!!! When r u moving?

commsgirl · 25/09/2013 10:44

Pram such good news. Well done with your landlord negotiations!

Maybs we had Gaucho booked for our anniversary but had to cancel as I spent the whole day vomming. I will live vicariously through you instead, you can upload a picture of your steak on Facebook. It better be mooing on the plate.Envy

I've put on 3lbs and I don't feel too horrified by it. Progress Cake

BadlyWrittenPoem · 25/09/2013 10:45

kara, I don't eat beef anyway so not totally up on the risks but I think undercooked beef is a risk for listeriosis. (However, the average person is more likely to be killed in a car accident than catch listeriosis.) Toxoplasmosis is also a potential from some raw/undercooked meat but I'm not up on exactly which ones or on the likelihood of catching it. Raw/undercooked eggs/chicken are a risk for salmonella but the last official tests on eggs I know of found no salmonella inside eggs and a very low chance of salmonella on the shell so you're actually more at risk by being the one preparing the eggs than by eating soft eggs.

karamcleod · 25/09/2013 10:45

Pram I hope your new house is infested with sea lions.

JustCallMeBaldrick · 25/09/2013 10:47

Phew, finally caught up!
Congrats on your pink bump rock Smile
I ended up at the mw yesterday, as I hadn't felt any movement for a couple of days, but she found a heartbeat straight away Grin Huge relief !
I don't think the heartbeat tells you anything about the sex though, as mine's been 142 and 148, and it's a girl.
Have we heard anything from saggy since her CVS? I hope she's OK.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 25/09/2013 10:49

From memory I think beef, ready meals and prepackaged sandwiches are some of the most common causes of listeria but we're advised against soft cheeses and pates on listeria grounds because there was a listeria scare about them in the late eighties. (But it's so rare that there isn't any information about whether it is actually dangerous in pregnancy.)
