Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lumpylumps · 24/09/2013 08:16

apprentice you've just described my night!!!

16week appt was good if a little rushed. I'm staying to feel uncomfortable already, sciatica, spd and rib flare all kicking off and I've got a low bp which explains the extra dizziness!!!

imeg thinking of you. Children are so adaptable, if they're born with something like that, they will have bad days but it's only ever down to the insensitivity of others. They themselves learn to live just as they are because that's all there ever known.

SoSurprised · 24/09/2013 08:23

Congrats to everyone on the great scan news. And also to those that already know what they are getting! So exciting!
I am having abdominal pains and pains when I walk, also need to pee every 30 min or so, think it might be a UTI, the hospital have misplaced my sample so have to give another one :/. I also called up my midwife but she hasn't got back to me yet.

lumpylumps · 24/09/2013 08:25

Granny tips are all about sleeping today. It may be a bit long but has some very valuable thoughts that I'm sure we will all follow!!!

A baby who sleeps in a study atmosphere will quickly become pale, flabby and listless. It is most important that baby be kept outside in the open air most of the day.

keep the Windows of baby's bedroom open day and night. Of course if you own a balcony or porch, baby will be far better outside all night than inside.

Failing a balcony, give baby a room to himself. It does not matter what room, the kitchen will do.

Baby should on no account be allowed to sleep in the same bed with his mother. Not only is there the risk of death through overlaying, but baby becomes more or less poisoned by breathing the breath of his mother, and by re breathing his own breath over and over again.

The outside air of our slums is infinitely pure and clean compared with the saturated breath-poisoned bedroom air of many persons living in the midst of green fields or near the sea.

lumpylumps · 24/09/2013 08:26

stuffy not study!!

commsgirl · 24/09/2013 08:28

Haha, I'm going to set up a nursery in my porch...

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 08:33

Based on lumpy's recommendations from our elders, I shall now be purchasing a kennel for the baby instead of a cot to make sure s/he doesn't become pale and flabby! Grin

SoSurprised · 24/09/2013 08:37

yes! I have a balcony that's where I will park the baby. Thanks granny. :D

commsgirl · 24/09/2013 08:42

KEGELS :)

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 08:48

Just found a kegel training app that promises to increase the size of my erection...get in! Grin

liberuna · 24/09/2013 08:57

Imeg please keep sharing with us
. Remember we are so lucky to live and grow up in a first world country that supports, accepts and grows with understanding of any and all differences. There may be challenges ahead for your little one but with a wonderful father who has 'been there' they'll get through the worst. Flowers

MummyPig24 · 24/09/2013 09:07

Good advice lumpy, I'm loving this, it's so funny. Has anyone seen those baby cages that people used to use?

apprenticemamma · 24/09/2013 09:16

loving the advice lumpy !! Although a good dose of bracing spring air definitely gets a newborn sleeping ime , just when out in the pram ...not all night ..

jolly LOL.

Right back to work..more coffee required ...is that naughty?

karamcleod · 24/09/2013 09:18

Still in bed, can't move this morning pretty sure my urine infection is back with a vengence! midwife told me it was one of the worst urine infections she'd ever seen. This is 100 times worse. OH will hopefully be back from work soon to take me to Dr :(

OwlinaTree · 24/09/2013 09:22

I was about to link to the baby cages mummy!

Forgot the sample for the midwife first thing, am struggling to get one out now!

I've got 8 minutes before I have to leave!!

OwlinaTree · 24/09/2013 09:23

Hope you feel better soon kara

MummyPig24 · 24/09/2013 09:27

Oh no kara, hope you feel better after the dr sees you.

owl take the pot with you and drink, drink, drink. Try and squeeze one out in the toilets there.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 24/09/2013 10:42

Hugs imeg, sorry to hear your news - I imagine that it must be a shock even if you knew it was a possibility and of course nobody wants their baby to have any health/physical problems of any kind. I cried when they thought DD1 had asthma which is far more trivial. (She didn't as it turned out - it was whooping cough.)

Had MW appointment this morning but slapped cheek results still not back yet. Wonder if you are not immune then they should do another blood test four weeks later and not just wait for symptoms to appear. If you want to know what they should be doing, the HPA guidance is here www.hpa.org.uk/web/HPAweb&HPAwebStandard/HPAweb_C/1195733745858 but it does also contain detailed figures about the various risks/outcomes so only read if you're comfortable with that. (I feel better if I know all the information and facts/figures but I know that for some people that kind of thing just stresses them out more.)

LOL at granny's tips - my 14 month old is clearly poisoned then as she's always slept in our room and we've only just separated the cot from our bed!

Pantomime · 24/09/2013 10:50

Is it me or are UTIs worse when you're pregnant. Sample results back this morning, picking up antibiotics later :( ouch ouch ouch...

Prambo · 24/09/2013 10:53

Lumpy, on a serious note: thanks for these 1950s tips; I really do love them. I think those ladies were so eminently sensible Smile

Sorry folks are struggling to piss. Are you drinking enough water? I have always imbibed gallons of water a day and so am used to pissing like a racehorse and getting up at least once in the night. Pregnancy has not exacerbated this and I am sleeping beautifully - 10 or 11 hours a night. Don't hate me (I hate it when people say 'don't hate me'; it makes me hate them immediately)!

Lyra, those who misuse 'lose' and 'loose' don't deserve to breathe air in my opinion.

I'm viewing another house today which is even closer to the canal than the ex-council we fancied. This one is a 'new build' and therefore inherently shit size-wise but more modern than the ex-council (which also had leckie & gas meters which are monstrously expensive according to th'usband).

Prambo · 24/09/2013 11:00

Ooooh, RockChick! Your gender scan today! What do you secretly wish for?

HotCrossPun · 24/09/2013 11:13

This is probably a daft question.

But i'll ask it anyway.

My weight just now puts me into the 'overweight' category for my BMI. I'm 6 pounds lighter than I was at my booking in appointment. I want a home water birth. I know if your weight is above a certain point then you are a higher risk and they don't recommend you have a home birth.

Is that the weight that you start with or the weight that you end up as? What I mean is, I imagine the weight that you are when you are 9 months pregnant would put most woman into the overweight or obese category. Surely if they looked at that weight then nobody would ever be allowed to have a home birth?

Confused
FoxMulder · 24/09/2013 11:20

I have the opposite peeing problem - I pee heaps less than I used to. Prob because I've gone off water. I still have to pee in the night, but I always have.

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 11:25

Ouch for the ladies with the UTIs. Not good...really not looking forward to that part of things.

Imeg - sorry your little one is showing signs of your OH's condition. Ideally of course, all babies would be 100% healthy and perfectly formed, but with your husband's experience, and by proxy yours, your baby has the perfect parents to help him or her with some very unusual challenges. Thanks

x0gawjus0x · 24/09/2013 11:29

You ladies are bad influence ;) 115 pounds paid for private scan thursday at 6pm!! Ill be 17+2 but knowing my luck they wont be able to bloody tell me haha oo excited now :D

re. Peeing.. I am constantly on toilet most of time its nothing or a little dribble but im on it every hour! X

FoxMulder · 24/09/2013 11:29

Are UTIs inevitable? I really don't want to have to take antibiotics. They don't half fuck your guts. I haven't had a UTI since I was advised to pee after sex (and not by a doctor either, even though it was the millionth time I'd had a UTI and the millionth time they'd dished out the antibiotics).
