Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NoMaybeAboutIt · 24/09/2013 11:36

I don't think they're inevitable Fox. They're just more common due to hormones making it harder to fully empty the bladder.

Hot I'm fairly sure it's the weight you start with as they don't weigh you after that unless there is cause for concern.

Good luck for today Rock! I'm excited for you!!

Gawj are you London based? That's pretty pricey for a gender scan. But so worth it Wink

Dora anyone else have achey joints? My knees and hips are so sore!

IceNoSlice · 24/09/2013 11:57

Hot I agree it's probably the weight you start at that 'categorises' you. However, if you've been eating healthily and doing really well to manage your weight gain throughout pg, then surely that should count in your favour in any assessment of risk factors. (Obv assuming sensible eating blah blah). Perhaps discuss it with your MW and emphasise how well you've done and try to agree a

IceNoSlice · 24/09/2013 11:58

... Try to agree a plan.

faithfulandtruthful · 24/09/2013 12:12

I'm fairly certain that its the weight at the beginning of your pregnancy which determines you 'BMI' for the 'risk factors' of labour.

On the subject of UTI's look out for early signs you may have one and increase your water intake, this may stave off the infection and stop it from getting worse. It is also advisable to reduce your sugar intake especially in drinks as this will help to starve the infection and thus preventing it from growing so quickly. I don't think they are inevitable just more likely. If you do have to have antibiotics make sure you increase your intake of probiotics by eating more yoghurt or taking pro-bio tablets or drinks. If your prone to getting them anyway its worth doing the probiotic thing daily anyway to help balance your system and to be more aware of how much you drink too. Best of luck to all those who are currently suffering I hope it clears up soon.

Prambo · 24/09/2013 12:19

My midwife told me that we will avoid UTIs entirely if we drink enough water.

Hottie, sorry I can't answer your question. I think the others are right, though.

Marbie, No aching here but tender arches of feet. Anyone able to explain that to me? Is it pregnancy-related and will it get worse? Literally hobbling out of bed in the morning. Heels and pads fine; arches really sore.

Janice (the midwife) can't make it today for the heartbeat scan. Changed to Monday instead. Tsk!

FoxMulder · 24/09/2013 12:25

Oh dear, I used to drink heaps of water, but now it tastes nasty & feels nasty in my stomach & if I drink it on an empty stomach I get cramps.

Good advice F&T (as always) I will do my best to follow it.

HotCrossPun · 24/09/2013 12:29

Thanks for the advice, that's what I was hoping!

I might be cheeky and ask the midwife to record my weight as it is now. Every little helps!

Is it just Rock for the gender reveal today? Who's next after that. Tis all very exciting. Grin

MummyPig24 · 24/09/2013 12:29

I've never had a uti before so I hope not to get one in this pregnancy. I drink a lot though, I feel so thirsty all the time at the moment.

I'm so sleepy today but I have to go and do the food shopping and then take dd to ballet.

x0gawjus0x · 24/09/2013 12:29

No maybe im in southwest in a place called liliput near poole/bournemouth x

karamcleod · 24/09/2013 12:30

I have had a UTI since before I was pregnant had 4 lots of antibiotics :(
Been waiting in the doctors waiting room for 30mins already!!!

Rockchick1984 · 24/09/2013 12:45

I never got a UTI last pregnancy despite getting them occasionally at other times (usually triggered by stress) but am always constantly thirsty when pregnant and drink tons of flavoured water so maybe that's why I avoid them?

Pram I honestly don't mind what I have this time. A boy would be easier and cheaper as we've still got all DS's old clothes, but a girl would be lovely just because I'm quite girlie! DH thinks its a boy again this time, I have no idea!! Scan is at 6pm but think we are going out for a meal afterwards so will update when I get the chance :)

Thought I was developing PGP yesterday - tmi but my area cheek was in agony, I could barely walk! Today it's still sore but my leg is hurting too, feels more like cramp than stabbing (yesterday it was definitely stabby). A bath has eased it a bit, just hoping it buggers off soon!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 24/09/2013 12:50

Pram, we moved into an ex-council house with key meters for electricity/gas. We immediately switched to EbiCo because they charge the same price on principle whatever payment method you use (they are a Christian not for profit power company) and have always been the cheapest supplier for us. We then requested a change to normal meters and as we had recently moved to the house they were happy to switch them for free.

Hot the weight they go on is your booking weight (which is sometimes called your "prepregnancy weight" even though it isn't necessarily the same Angry). I imagine that if you were borderline on booking BMI and haven't gained a lot you could make a case for a homebirth. Also, as I think I mentioned on here to someone else previously, there is usually a range in the NICE guidance which is described as "use individualised assessment" whereas most NHS trusts just say you need to be consultant led as soon as you are in that range (so for example with haemoglobin levels the nice guidance recommends CLU for

faithfulandtruthful · 24/09/2013 13:01

Fox it is better to drink something (even if it is not water) rather than drinking nothing for fear of the sugar content, if you're concerned about sugar, drink squash or watered down juice over Juice on its own or reduce the amount of sugar taken in tea and coffee but the the end of the day better to drink something rather than nothing at all.

Pram Your centre of gravity is changing due to the baby adding weight to your body, so your arches may be hurting as a result of this. Get thy self to a boots and buy some arch supports (an insert which sits in the bottom of your shoe), try to wear shoes that tie up (the kind that make you look like a granny or trainers!) rather than loose ones (the kind you'd never see a granny in, pumps and ugg boots spring to mind).

Starting to feel like some old sage, I have suffered from so many problems over the years, its so been there, done that, got the t-shirt!! Ha ha! I'm afraid that my advice can never measure up to Lumpy's Nan's book though!!!

HotCrossPun · 24/09/2013 13:03

Thanks BWP. Thanks

I'm in good health and I'm being really careful with my weight so I don't gain any more than I need to.

As it stands I am having a home birth. It's only if I develop complications that I'll decide to switch to a hospital birth. That's the worst case scenario option!

faithfulandtruthful · 24/09/2013 13:06

Badly Did just read my post back and i did specify water didn't I. It wasn't intentional.

Drink whatever liquid means you drink the most. If you do get a UTI avoid sugary things at that point, I'm not suggesting you should try to go cold turkey that would be difficult.

F&T

Prambo · 24/09/2013 13:08

BWP and F&T, I can't thank you enough for your advice on meters and arch supports. Honestly, thank you Thanks

karamcleod · 24/09/2013 13:32

After waiting three quarters of an hour to see the doctor, she bloody perscribed me the exact same antibiotics that haven't worked.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 24/09/2013 13:58

F&T water is probably the best thing to drink in fairness but I think quantity is probably more key than quality.

kara, did they send away a sample to be tested when you first got the UTI? They should have done so so that if the first lot didn't work they would know exactly what will. However, if the previous ones didn't actually work at all then you'd probably have ended up in hospital by now (I've been there) so the chances are that they did work but just the infection was so bad that you didn't have them for long enough to get rid of it completely in which case it is better for them to give you the same ones.

karamcleod · 24/09/2013 14:08

I've had a sample taken everytime I've been, although they took a blood sample today not too sure why?

BadlyWrittenPoem · 24/09/2013 14:18

Did they actually send it off though or did they just do a dip test to confirm you had a UTI? Only reason I can think of offhand for a bloodtest is that they think you have recurrent UTIs and are checking your blood sugar but when they did that with me they just did the little finger prick test to could be something completely different.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 24/09/2013 14:18

And I think it is very bad that they have taken a blood test without explaining why - how can you possibly give informed consent without them even telling you?

faithfulandtruthful · 24/09/2013 14:52

Kara

There is an article here which states

Blood Cultures. If symptoms are severe, the doctor will order blood cultures to determine if the infection is in the bloodstream and threatening other parts of the body.

They may be ruling out STI's but surely you had bloods at your booking in? I was checked for STI's when I had recurrent UTI's and Yeast infections (yes at the same time, my body sux!) but all came back clear.

MummyBee87 · 24/09/2013 15:02

Wozas you ladies have moved on quickly!! The midwife told me they would only do urine tests for UTIs hence the importance on taking a sample each time I go, so perhaps the blood test is for something different? It's really shoddy that they haven't told you why they took your blood though!
I have a QQ for everyone, has anyone felt movement yet? I'm 14+3 and am interested to know what to expect/what it will feel like so I know its not just indegetion lol! :)

FoxMulder · 24/09/2013 15:13

Hmm, I haven't been told to take a sample to my appointment.

I'm 14+4 mummybee but not felt anything for definite yet.

rescoonetwothree · 24/09/2013 15:17

haven't caught up yet! just dropping in to say I'm so excited for rock 's reveal I'm gonna wee myself!

KEGELS!
