Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 17:20

baby I'm going for 29 weeks which I think is just after Christmas but my job is just s/e doing the books for DH's business so earlier is better for our income as the MA is in effect "extra" income and the work I do isn't really arduous and is very flexible. (With me being ill DH ends up working less which cancels out some of the extra.)

Prambo · 23/09/2013 17:23

I don't work which means I can sit on my arse all day for the whole nine months. It also means I can't go shopping for new cars and nurseries like you bastards lovely ladies.

Beccadugs · 23/09/2013 17:25

I have been back BWP, but tried nearly all the other antiemetic/combinations so not sure that changing will
Help.

Just totally and utterly sick of this constant queasy nausea, and regular vommiting.

I also ordered a maternity bundle on eBay and the seller has contacted me saying that it has been returned to her due to lack of postcode. She wants me to pay for repost age. I think this is very unfair as eBay would have given her the postcode, so it's her fault she didn't spot it. (I never have had any problems with this before and something else I bought on eBay arrived on Saturday with postcode) what should I do?!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 17:33

Becca, I was given promethazine, proclorperazine (both stemetil and buccastem), cyclizine, metaclopramide and domperidone and none of them helped much (and some I had bad reactions to) but ondansetron has worked wonders. It's usually only given after the above (and some Drs won't give it) because it is very expensive but it has a very high success rate.

commsgirl · 23/09/2013 17:36

Mat leave - I'm going to try and stick work out as long as possible. Trying to save a couple of week's leave to get a bit of extra time. I can't decide how much time to have off though!

So sorry for the people who are still feeling sick/vomming :(

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 17:36

(Apologies if I come across a bit over-evangelical about treatment - I just know how easy it is to settle for substandard treatment for pregnancy sickness.)

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 17:38

Becca I would put in an "item not received" claim if she won't resend it. If she's told you that it's been returned and that she won't resend it then you have your evidence and it's up to her to deal with Royal Mail if they didn't deliver - a postcode shouldn't matter if the rest of your address is there.

Beccadugs · 23/09/2013 17:44

BWP - yep, on ondastrone (I know that's the wrong spelling but hope you know what I mean!) very worried about goin back on a drip!

I am a little suspicious about the sending to be honest, as I agree about the postcode, and I only paid about 2.45 for the bundle (£8 pandp though) as there were hardly any pics or description so took a gamble. I am worried she is just unwilling to sell so cheap..,

Magpieblue · 23/09/2013 17:45

Goodness, every time I look in you lot are about two threads on! I haven't caught up yet so hope I haven't missed anybody going through a major trauma.

I'm slightly in denial about maternity leave. I'm self-employed and often our only breadwinner so at the moment I'm planning to work until about a week before the birth, then take a month off and then go back to work part time-ish until the baby's about three months old. It's probably going to be awful.

Think of it as payback for having had no morning sickness whatsoever, and only one afternoon of mild queasiness.

Prambo · 23/09/2013 17:47

BWP, you are, like, the wisest person in the world Smile

This fridge cake is a fucking colossal success!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 23/09/2013 17:48

Thanks BWP. The only reason I was put off taking it is the way the Dr implied I should avoid it if I could. I tend to take it when I'm desperate to sleep. Some nights I can't even drift off as I feel so sick everytime I close my eyes. Hoping tonight will be ok.

Baby it sucks doesn't it. It's relentless. We will get there though Smile

PramPram you need say nothing, just please keep coming up with hilarious names Grin. Now chuck me some fridge cake.

MummyB I only get SMA as I was pregnant when I started the job. Though the company would only give SMP, so I've only missed out on 6 weeks of 90% pay.

I am loving these old school 'how to behave during pregnancy' tips. Can we have one a day please?

Grey I'm waiting with baited breath!!

FrankelInFoal · 23/09/2013 17:59

I did the Chinese predictor thing, it said "girl", which is what my "instinct" says too.

babybear, I plan on starting maternity leave on 1st Feb. my holiday year runs 1st Jan to 31st December so I plan on using all my holiday up to take February off so that my maternity leave (and pay) doesn't start till 1st March. That way I won't have to go back to work until March 2015 Grin

liberuna · 23/09/2013 18:04

Im same as comm & mommy trying to work as late as possible and then will need to come back after 39 weeks as we can't afford me not to work. Saying that I don't know what we're doing for child care if weeare both part time.

Any one have experience with this dilemma?

pram im salivating over the thought of your cake. Sounds amazeballs. Im just going to have to settle for some wedding cake samples I got for free from waitrose. Grin

grey can't wait so excited

passes sick bowl round

Beccadugs · 23/09/2013 18:05

I had my pre maternity meeting today! To plan mat leave, put in place a POA for covering my job, and to do the pregnant risk assessment.

Think I will start Mat leave 24th Feb (Monday after feb half term so will finish a week before this) and will be back mid December 2014, as can only afford the SMP part! Still it'll mean going back for two weeks and then two weeks off again so not too bad!

karamcleod · 23/09/2013 18:11

Being an unemployed tosser means I get to sit home everyday watching jeremy kyle and contemplating how not being able to provide for my child makes me a bad parent.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 18:13

Oh, I'm sorry that you are that ill even with ondansetron Becca. Have steroids been mentioned at all? I've known people have just a short course of them which has given them the boost they needed but different NHS trusts have different policies about giving them. If you've got potential to be ending up back in hospital on a drip, they should definitely be considering them as a possible option.

FrankelInFoal · 23/09/2013 18:13

I'm very very lucky that my employer has agreed to pay me above statutory maternity pay, though I don't know how much by yet! That coupled with the fact that we are saving our spare cash like buggery means I'll be able to take the full year without losing a massive amount.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 18:14

Thanks Pram, you can be my new best friend. Although I don't really think I am wise. Blush

BakingEating · 23/09/2013 18:15

I'm hoping to work as close as poss to my due date and go back after 6 months. It'd be nice to go down to 4 days at that point too but it depends on dh's job.

For those on dc2 or more, how close to the due date is it realistic to work?

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 18:19

Maybe, sadly many doctors are very ill informed and are just scared because of thalidomide. [rant about misinformed Drs redacted] This is from the PSS website:
"Prospective and retrospective cohort studies, case-control, and record linkage studies of patients with exposure to various and multiple phenothiazines have failed to demonstrate an increased risk of major malformations. Significant therapeutic effect on NVP was demonstrated in 3 randomised controlled trials in severe NVP. [2] One of the phenothiazines available in the UK is prochlorperazine (Stemetil). Side effects include drowsiness, restlessness and occasional extra pyramidal effects. These are prescription only medications."

BadlyWrittenPoem · 23/09/2013 18:24

Baking, I think it depends on your job and how you are - I was signed off from (four hours a week admin at home) work for the entirety of my last two pregnancies but some people seem to work right up to their due date.

BakingEating · 23/09/2013 18:27

Thanks BWP sounds like I'll need to play it by ear.

karamcleod · 23/09/2013 18:32

I think Moosey is gonna have a boy, I'm way too excited to find out!!

Prambo · 23/09/2013 18:43

Kara, you are a scream when you are not being disablist Your OH sounds positively Neanderthal, what with his huntin' and fishin' and 6000BC super-spunk. Do you have a cave or a house? Does he clunk you over th'ead with a club and drag you away for sex?
