Afternoon all!

Sweetie the show was fab. MrM was more interested in all the toys Grin. But I think he really enjoyed himself too. I have had an epidural before (for surgery) and if I'm honest I would never have one again. I won't elaborate unless you'd like me to, as I know epidurals are amazing for most people.

Solars we were meant to be going to the one at Olympia, but it was going to be too much for me with the commute as well, so we went to the Bluewater one. It was really good. We got a reusable wipes kit and a stretchy wrap. Also decided in which cloth nappy system we will go for and ha e found lots of bits from mamas and papas which we will buy later on.

I am still off work, this week is actually a week I booked for annual leave. Am going back next week but need to request that I work at least 2 days from home. I'm not going to be able to manage 12 hour days feeling like this. Mw and GP think it's the best thing too. Fingers crossed.

Boo scan is tomorrow. I'm so bloody excited Grin. We have thought it's a boy for ages, but the last few days I've been having baby girl dreams Hmm. I've also developed a sweet tooth. In addicted to doughnuts.

Trix how you doing? I totally missed the identical twin post Wink. They can look very similar, but girl boy twins can't be identical. How are your aches and pains now?

How's your back Keep? When are you getting your bed back?

I love a good letter Bumpie! I hope they send you a decent compensation letter. You would not believe the things you can buy for babies!

keepitgoing · 14/10/2013 21:26

trix if they are boy girl twins they're just like brother and sister, so could look similar iykwim.

Another long day, just home, v knackered. 14 more work days. I will ask mw on Thursday about the physio. I have been feeling a bit more uncomfy while driving, wonder if kip is lower, or just bigger.

sweetie you have plenty more to grow, I reckon your belly button won't have a choice but to pop!

maybe how exciting for the scan. I think boy too, but probably just cos we've called it fin... Enjoy. will you be getting a key ring

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/10/2013 21:51

Oh Keep lovely, you poor thing. How much longer till you stop work?

No, no key ring for us or mouse mat Halloween Wink

cartoontrickster · 15/10/2013 08:24

a heartbeat bear perhaps maybe?Wink
sooo what decides if twins are identical or not? is it to do with if there from 2 eggs or the same one?

Solars · 15/10/2013 08:53

Maybe have fun at your scan! I'm betting girl!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/10/2013 09:03

Grin Trix! Identical twins come from one egg that splits, non identical from two eggs.

Thanks Solars, controversial Halloween Wink. Scan isn't until 7!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 15/10/2013 09:05

Oooh scan day :):) have a brilliant time Maybe I'm still saying boy (I am usually wrong Wink)

Trix I think identical twins are 1 egg that splits into 2, non identical are 2 eggs, 2 babies :)

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/10/2013 09:09

Thanks lovely Boo!

keepitgoing · 15/10/2013 09:17

yes boo and maybe are right - identical are from an embryo splitting, whereas non ID are two eggs, two sperms. sweetie had two embryos put back and they both stuck, but it's possible (indeed more likely than in natural circumstances for some reason) that with IVF one embryo is put back but it splits into ID twins. ID twin pregnancies are more risky as they can share placenta and/or sacs, so need lots more monitoring. sweetie's only problem is lack of space Grin !

A 7pm scan maybe... Argh, we have to wait all day!

Thanks maybe hopefully today will be easier. I finish on the 1st November, same as sweetie i think. though i did just take on an additional project yesterday so am not exactly winding down

boo do you know what a 'bumbo' is for? have been given one, it seems to be just a little chair, is it something special?

RubberBullets · 15/10/2013 10:36

Does the bumbo have a strap? If not then get in touch with the manufacturer as they had to issue them out as they are considered dangerous without them. Babies can arch their back and fall out of them.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/10/2013 10:45

Counting down the days till the 1st for you Keep! It's such a long wait till 7!! Going to slowly go insane me thinks!!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 15/10/2013 11:15

the Bumbo is indeed a little seat, for when baby has good head control but not able to sit un aided, it holds them in a seated position. Bullets is spot on with her advice about straps, there has recently been a recall on them to have straps fitted :) Are you excited about all the little baby things in the house?

I have been sorting Ks clothes out today, was a bit upset at all the beautiful things she doesn't fit anymore, but consoled myself when I opened the bag of 6/9 month clothes and found her tutu Grin

Maybe what are you playing at booking a scan so late? its asking a lot of us to wait around all day Halloween WinkHalloween Grin

OP posts:
ThedementedPenguin · 15/10/2013 12:22

Yay it's scan day. How great. Although boo is right, how could you book it so late. I really can't wait to hear the news. How are you and MrM feeling?

bumpie hope you are feeling better today.

I've a bumbo, I hardly used it with ds, was too busy holding him. I didn't bother with the straps as if you watch them carefully and use it on the floor it's fine. When I heard they had recalled it was because people where putting them on tables or work tops and baby fell onto floor. I couldn't believe people put babies that high up.

boo I hated putting away all of ds clothes he grew out of, it doesn't affect me so much now, however when putting away the tiny baby/newborn I was a crying mess. It's hard to believe how quick they grow.

I'm really not sure how my house is going to cope, ds has so many big toys now I really don't know where all the baby stuff is going to go.

SweetieTime · 15/10/2013 12:52

Maybe glad you enjoyed the baby show and MrM did too. Think you are wise to take it easy on the work front, tis too important to take any chances. 7pm for your scan!!!!! Are you mad? We once booked a tea time one and never again, I was a wreck all day.

Keep you finish a week ahead of me, my last day is 8th. I am counting down already. I have only been going into the office 2 days a week and expect that to be the same until the end. I am slightly daunted by the prospect to such an extended period of time off. I have worked since 16, a few years off for Uni, but then constantly for the last 16 years. Where does time go???

On the twins thing, apparently ID twins don't always share a sac it depends when the split takes place. The earlier it is they share a sac but then I think it is after day 5 they can actually have separate sac and maybe even placentas I think.

Boo we NEED pictures of K in her tutu - beyond cute I bet.

Thanks for the PM in epidurals, you have given me a lot to think about.

I am off to the hospital this afternoon for a blood appointment, not sure what they are going to say as things won't have changed. I haven't had any blood taken for them to tell me anything different. Last time blood clinic was running 4 hours behind so I could be in for a long wait.

cartoontrickster · 15/10/2013 15:58

how many of you have a tumble dryer?
will I struggle without one bearing in mind it can take days for washing to dry in my house over winter.
will I regret not having one with the babys clothes to wash and dry?
am I just thinking I need one when I don't.

Solars · 15/10/2013 16:23

Just came on to check out your scan news Maybe [wail] still ages to wait!

Trix I was thinking the same this weekend about a tumble dryer as we don't have one either so would be interested to see answers to your questions. I have seen that you can buy these indoor dryers which look likes just hot air blown into what looks like a covered clothes horse but don't know how efficient or even noisy they may be?

RubberBullets · 15/10/2013 16:28

Depends on the baby. DD was hardly ever sick and we wash her clothes in with ours. Ignoring nappies, it is only max 1 extra load a week of washing for us. Some people say that babies produce lots of extra washing, I guess they have babies that are sick more often and therefore need to change clothes. DD would generally be in the same clothes all day so that is only 7 small outfits a week to wash.

keepitgoing · 15/10/2013 16:33

We have one in this rented house trix but I've never used it. I'd think hanging stuff on radiators would be fine, I mean people haven't always had them...

Just got home from work and instead of sending some emails I am here, and eating a chocolate bar, drinking tea, and considering a short nap. :)

Thanks for the bumbo info. We thought it might be a not-very-good potty at first... It doesn't have straps so will see if I can get any, but may be too late. Yes, boo its so lovely having baby stuff everywhere. Whenever I think of kip as an outside baby (iykwim) I get a bit teary...

sweetie brooking for no delays.

cartoontrickster · 15/10/2013 16:43

thanks rubber I was under the impression that this tiny person was going to create masses of extra washing but perhaps not then. although I do find my mashine is on approx 5 times a week all ready so i will basically be doing a load a day then. the radiators in my house are awful the lounge ones barely warm up at all. so my next task is to get them fixed. theyve never worked!
keep I reckon if it was there I would use it! your so good not touching it. but yes loads of people don't have one, my mum wouldn't have had one so its obviously not that essential.

GreenOlives · 15/10/2013 18:12

7pm scan maybe How have you not burst with waiting all day!! I'm going for boy (am usually wrong just like boo Wink ) Will check back later for news.
trix As the mum of a very sicky baby and a mud loving 5 year old my tumble drier is most definitely an essential item! At his peak Tom would use 4+ outfits, 6 bibs, 3/4 muslins and a set of cot sheets every day! It is much less now thankfully! Having one does make you lazy though as it's so much quicker and easier to shove it in there rather than hang it out!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/10/2013 18:21

I'm going maaaaaaaaaaad Halloween Hmm

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 15/10/2013 18:30

Photos of K in a tutu will deffo be taken Halloween Grin

Trix my tumble dryer is so important, the only day it doesn't get used is new years day thanks to MIL and her stupid old wives tail, DH wont let me use it that day Halloween Hmm

Keep I used to sit by the crib just staring at it trying to picture the little baby in it

Sweetie I hope you haven't had long to wait at clinic today.

Well in the saddest news, my lovely phone is broken so I might not be over here and on FB as much, I have to actually get on the lap top now Haloween Sad

OP posts:
cartoontrickster · 15/10/2013 18:49

boo why can't you use it new yrs day? I've never heard this nonsense.
I do have visions of my washer being constantly on and clothes drying over anything and everything around the house. I guess i'll see how I cope and perhaps buy one if I struggle. I could always take some wet washing to tumble dry at mums!
I think girl then maybe just cos the majory say boyGrin

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 15/10/2013 19:02

Trix it is something like washing on New Years day washes someone in the family away, personally, its a risk I'm willing to take Halloween Wink
