"In general, you should gain about 2 to 4 pounds during the first three months you're pregnant and 1 pound a week during the rest of your pregnancy."

i just read I'm meant to gain 28-40lbs...?!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 18/09/2013 21:49

Weight gain. Nada. Weight loss, 3kg in last 2 weeks, not sure about overall.

Coolhand · 18/09/2013 21:50

PS Would not get overly caught up in standard weight gain per trimester if you're being sensible - last time my weight gain was similar at this stage - put on 2 stone overall and within a few months of birth was told off by doc for being half a stone underweight. I started this pregnancy being underweight as well as could never get it back on post DS.

Others I know put on less but couldn't shift it. It really depends on your body type - I struggle to put weight on normally and that's the way my body reacted post pregnancy. If you are someone who struggles to keep weight off, you'll probs find it difficult and I think most people end up somewhere in between!

FrankelInFoal · 18/09/2013 21:53

I've no idea on my weight gain so far! I weighed myself when I found out I was pregnant (as instructed by the fertility clinic) and then got weighed at my 12w appointment. If I took the difference literally then it meant id have gained 3.5kg in the first trimester Shock.

However, when I weighed myself it was first thing in the morning (pre-breakfast) wearing only my undies. When the midwife weighed me it was fully clothed, just after lunch Grin. I'm not bothering about my weight, I'm going by my clothes. I can still get into my size 10 jeans (low-rise so they are under my bump) so I can't see that I've put much weight on.

Prambo · 18/09/2013 21:59

It totally goes against my values and beliefs to worry about pregnancy weight so why am I fretting? I don't think I expected to put on 12lbs in the first trimester but, then again, I know for certain the progesterone pessaries I had to stick up my vadge thrice daily for 12 wks didn't help the old appetite.

Thanks for sharing, folks.

commsgirl · 18/09/2013 22:00

I decided to throw the scales out yesterday as I was getting a bit too hung up on things. I'm so happy and grateful to be having this baby but I am finding my body changing so quickly and being out of my control really hard to deal with.

Prambo · 18/09/2013 22:01

Frankel, I hate it when they weigh you after lunch! With boots and jumper on! Sad

rescoonetwothree · 18/09/2013 22:02

pram i agree with cool - tbh i am only weighing myself because i cant usually keep weight on/it just falls off me so need to really make sure I'm putting on a sensible amount!

Prambo · 18/09/2013 22:02

Comms, would you rather we didn't discuss weight? I don't mind vetoing discussions if it helps your state of mind.

rescoonetwothree · 18/09/2013 22:03

comms me too, i feel like a different person, I've always been very slim with big boobs, now i just feel very lumpy and just a lot wider than I'm used to, doesnt look like me anymore!

Rockchick1984 · 18/09/2013 22:04

Weight gain of 2.5lbs so far - didn't lose or gain throughout first trimester. When I had DS I saw pregnancy as a license to sit on my arse and eat cream cakes and bacon butties all day every day and gained 5st Blush I lost 4st but gained one back after the miscarriage earlier this year, so am 2st over my pre-baby weight. Determined not to put a lot on this time as I really don't want to struggle to lose it again! BMI pre baby was about 21, now about 24, so both well within realms of normal but I'm not comfortable at this size. Potentially no more kids planned after this one so I want to get back to my original weight!

Most frustrating thing was that I never had to diet pre pregnancy so I think that's why I found it so hard to lose baby blubber, not used to depriving myself!

Beccadugs · 18/09/2013 22:07

I agree with you comms not coping well with the changes to my body, really paranoid about people thinking I'm fat. All this backed up by not fitting into any clothes, but unable to find any maternity ones anywhere.

Felt really miserable and then spoke to two colleagues who are really struggling TTC, and remembered that all this will be worth it.

Dreading midwife on Friday as I'm sure ill have put on too much weight...

commsgirl · 18/09/2013 22:07

Prammy thank you for thinking of me but I honestly don't mind. You lovely lot are just a reminder that it's all completely normal and healthy, which is actually very helpful :)

PainAuxRaisins · 18/09/2013 22:09

Crikey - how many posts since last night???? Only just caught up and barely have the energy to write anything (need bed now). Just want to wish Saggy well for tomorrow x

commsgirl · 18/09/2013 22:10

Becca it sounds like once you're past this awkward stage and have an obvious bump you'll feel more comfortable, so focus on that. I've definitely felt better since a couple of people have told me they can see I've got a bump.

Rockchick1984 · 18/09/2013 22:11

Becca she is incredibly unlikely to weigh you - NICE guidelines are for weighing at booking in only unless cause for concern.

Pregnancy body image is really tough until you're very pregnant - then I think you get a month or 2 where everyone including strangers can tell you're pregnant. Sadly postnatal is not good, although you will feel soooooo skinny when bump is first gone that you won't care Grin I have pics from a day out for my birthday when DS is a couple of weeks old and I felt so slim - looking back I was a wobbly mess but had just lost over a stone in the space of 2 weeks so its no wonder I felt good :)

Slippersandacuppa · 18/09/2013 22:33

Umm. Not sure where to start...

Mum (a midwife, who made a massive difference to how my first birth panned out) and DH were both at all births so far, MIL reeeeaaalllly wanted to be there but I wasn't quite ready for that. Debating about it this time. I'm just not convinced I'd find my happy labouring headspace with her there but know it'd mean the world to her. The other DCs are welcome to be there if they're awake - so far have had them all at night though.

Saggy Good luck tomorrow, hope you manage to get some sleep.

Total Hope you get good results - eat as much chocolate as you like I reckon - you deserve it!

Weight gain, it used to bother me but there's no time to think about it now and I agree (sorry, can't remember who said it!), try not to get too caught up in it. I put most of the 35lbs in the first half of my first pregnancy, then not much at all. Second one was the opposite.

Is it bad that I'm quite enjoying a little bit of thread drama? A sign of how exciting my life is right now.

Hope you're all doing well, everyone else. 'Tis quite overwhelming trying to catch back up with you all!

Beccadugs · 18/09/2013 22:34

Thanks comms and rock!

It's so great to have a space to talk honestly without too much judgement! Hopefully once the maternity clothes arrive from
eBay I will have some long tops to wear so won't feel so self conscious and flabby, or will at least be able to hide it better!

Beccadugs · 18/09/2013 22:35

I don't know why I said too much judgement Meant without any kindle mend!

OwlinaTree · 18/09/2013 22:36

Went to the NEC baby show. Was quite useful for research purposes and seeing lots of pg women in one place.

Asked for some info about a breast pump. The lady got out the pump and a stunt boob about the size of a grapefruit. She then demoed the pump in it's different cycles with this stunt boob complete with stunt nipple gong in and out! Me and Mr owl couldn't look at each other, so practical yet surreal all at once. Grin

Beccadugs · 18/09/2013 22:36

Judgement not kindle mend.

Half asleep phone typing is not a good plan!

OwlinaTree · 18/09/2013 22:45

panto I've no named picked yet! Don't worry, you've for agrees to agonise over cot and pushchair choices.

OwlinaTree · 18/09/2013 22:55

I've no idea what I weigh. Got a tendency to get a bit obsessed over weight loss etc, so decided not to even go there in terms of weighing myself and worrying about how much I have or haven't gained.

Clothes are tight and boobs are massive so I'm guessing I've gained some!

OwlinaTree · 18/09/2013 22:59

Hope it goes OK tomorrow saggy.

AbiBub · 18/09/2013 23:03

pirate im with you on the worst day with first labour, I hope im on par with your second labour too and your words give me hope!! :0) thank you.

total wow, long old weekend for sure, hope it flies by and glad to hear that dp is looking after you so well! :0)

grey will do once ive worked out how to!!?

Well I think im slightly less than I was with ds weightwise even though bumps showed earlier ( although I nearly demolished a whole pack of mini poppadoms in 20mins so maybe not for long!! ) im trying not to think about it too much as last time and up until recently I really got hung up on the whole weight thing. I used to be so slim and toned. But my shape has changed so I have to work with it rather than against it!

Oooh matalan are doing over and under bump trousers etc and really long tops that shouldn't break the bank, if anyone's interested. ; 0)
