24+ 3!!!! I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow, eeeeeeek!
space please do let us know if there's anything we can do, food parcels or anything that's useful! How is your little one doing?
Lots of love x

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 14:34

A maternity onesie?! You'll look like a Tellytubby :o

enjoyingscience · 01/10/2013 14:46

24 weeks. Gosh, that's tiny. He is a good weight for that age, fingers crossed he's a little toughie.

I think I wee too often for a onesie. (oversharing)

AnotherStitchInTime · 01/10/2013 14:50

Can't be doing with onesies either enjoying, peeing in the night would be awkward.

Why don't they do ones with poppers on the legs like baby sleep suits so that you can pee more easily?

Tellytubby onesie Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 01/10/2013 15:19

I was just about to post this (thought I was ALL CLEVER checking the stats thread), but blimey, 24 weeks. Good work mini-space on being such a good weight.

maternity onesies? I am intrigued. Part of me is not a fan of the onesie 'thing'. The other (lazy, cozy, likes the sofa part) is shouting think of the levels of comfort, you fool.

Anyone tried Boots maternity tights, incidentally? I have a 50% off voucher from their parenting club, need some tights, but don't know if they do them in store or not.

Also: am still waiting for my H&M maternity order. This is now two weeks. TWO WEEKS. FFS.

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 15:31

I have a onesie. DH bought me it for my birthday a few years ago. It's a very expensive, very soft, furry one which is the warmest thing ever. I use it to sleep in when we go camping because i'm always freezing at night in the tent. It's too warm to wear in the house, though.

It's a bugger for weeing, though.

I haven't tried Boots maternity tights. There is a thread running about tights at the moment. Someone says Boots ones are great.

Have you chased up H&M?

MrsVDB · 01/10/2013 15:41

toby I hadn't thought of that. I don't have a onesie yet but I thought this would be a great opportunity!

humpty they don't have them in the boots I've been into bit you can order into store with free next day delivery apparently. I'm struggling with tights, bought 4 types from mothercare so far, 1 was too big, 2nd was support tight also and wore them yesterday. Worst tights ever. Kept falling down (could be because bump isn't big enough yet) and as legs were tight it was hard to pull them up. Literally pulled my knickers down with them regardless of how much yanking up I was doing. Very embarrassing!

MrsVDB · 01/10/2013 15:42

Also at £12 a pair I was not happy!

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 15:54

Sainsbury's maternity tights are great. I also have some Blooming Marvellous ones. None of them fall down, but then again, my bump is pretty big.

Mythreeknights · 01/10/2013 16:01

Space, huge congratulations on the arrival of your baby boy Smile Our first baby!! What a shock for you and your DH and I hope you are bearing up now that it's all sinking in. I read somewhere that playing 'heart beat' sounds (ideally yours which have been recorded, but in principle, anyones) to a premature baby can help it to stabilise and gain weight faster - by replicating the womb environment as much as you can. I wonder if that's possible in the neonatal unit that he's in? Do keep us in the loop on name!

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 16:18

Is anyone else thinking of using re-usable nappies? I've been doing lots of research (for weeks now!) and I think nappies might be the ONE (and only) thing I have sorted for the baby.

Mind you, still haven't bought any, but I have a list!

enjoyingscience · 01/10/2013 16:21

we are lalunya - we used them with DS from when he was a couple of months old, so have a load of size 2 already, and I'm amassing a stash of one-size and a few size one (if that makes any sense!).

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 16:29

I am, lalunya. I'm going to use disposables for the first month or so, because I've heard they often leak on very new babies because they have no leg fat. Also because I'm sure I'll have enough to do!
And I might use disposables at night, too.

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 16:30

enjoy will you be using two-part or all-in-ones or pocket nappies?

We're also going for a selection - a few fitteds for overnight, a few pocket nappies because they seemr eally easy to use, and a few of those Flip nappies - saves on washing. Mostly one-size for us I think, except for the fitted ones.
How long do size 1 nappies last? Would you use them from birth?

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 16:36

toby that's what i've heard too - and apparently the first couple-of-weeks-poo is greenish and sticky (..yum...), so it's best to use disposables anyway.

Apparently fitted bamboo nappies are really good for overnight use, i had a look at these in a shop today. They felt beautifully fluffy too!

enjoyingscience · 01/10/2013 16:44

Size one's won't last long - probably up to 12-15 weeks for us (I expect a long baby!), so not getting many. I've got a mixture of pocket nappies and two parts - pockets or all in ones are great for during the day, two parts are better for night time (less likely to leak).

I would maybe avoid buying a full set until you see what shape baby is, as some makes fit differently so suit different babies. I'm hoping this one will be the same shape as DS!

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 16:52

enjoy - I know, that's the one thing I'm still wondering about. It's quite an investment (around £400 if I'm calculating it right), without knowing whether they will fit. The thing is - how can I tell which ones will fit without trying it on the baby?

I was planning on buying four different types of nappies in the hope that most of them will be ok...

MrsAVB · 01/10/2013 16:56

I have some blooming marvellous tights from mothercare, they are ok, but too saggy on the legs for me- despite being taller than average! I've also discovered it works just to cut a slit in the front of the waistband of normal tights, ok they may not be great after baby comes, but if figured I may have already laddered them by then anyway. It's annoying paying £12 for mat tights when normal tights are about half that! Although mothercare did have loads half price a few weeks back.

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 17:00

I'm sure the Sainsbury's maternity tights are only a fiver.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 01/10/2013 17:14

Thanks toby and MrsV. Did you get Sainsbos ones instore, toby?

I have chased H&M. They offered me a discount, which is nice, but I want the fecking stuff. I'm not even slightly impressed with their 'oh, but it ships from SWEDEN, and we're so GREEN that everything comes by sea' bullshit. I don't care if it comes from the moon. Bah. Grump.

lalunya I'm thinking of reusables. Not investigated which ones in any detail, as we have a nappy library near us, so should be able to hire/buy a mixed pack to try.

enjoyingscience · 01/10/2013 17:19

lalunya our local council (we're west berks) run a nappucino (awful name) thing that you can borrow a trail kit with lots of different sorts from. The nappy lady also gives tailored advice and might do the same sort of thing?

The council also give us a £30 cash back on £60 worth of nappies, so it's worth looking to see if yours do the same.

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 17:32

enjoy - I've been to a nappuccino! Grin And there's a nappy library not too far from our house - but since we don't have a car it'll mean a 25min bus ride with the little one, and I have a feeling that I'll be too busy and stressed to go out and exchange nappies once s/he's here! But maybe I'm exaggerating. I'd like to have everything "ready" when baby arrives...

Our local council also has a voucher scheme, which is great.

Good to hear that so many of us are willing to try the washable ones! My mother decided that I must be insane... Wink

BookTart · 01/10/2013 17:35

I'm planning on trying reusables after the first couple of months as well, but I'm totally bewildered by the choice! My local council doesn't do any money off scheme either, so it is a bit of an investment. I think I'll go for a trial pack that has one of each in it so I can give them a test run before committing to spending hundreds of pounds.

Lalunya85 · 01/10/2013 17:40

book - it's a jungle out there, as I said I spent literally weeks browsing the internet trying to understand all the different options out there. If you have any questions, shoot Wink

TobyLerone · 01/10/2013 17:44

Yes, Humpty. Just instore with the normal tights.
