Wuzzle: I've been starving all the way through, so haven't noticed any major change in appetite! That coud explain the massive waistline

So the moral of everyone's conception stories is to relax and have a drink (oh, and wiggle your hips manically - how does that work?). Seeing as we must have all conceived aroud the New Year drinking period, it all begins to make sense... Will bear in mind for next time (can't believe I'm already contemplating the next time - blasted pg hormones!). MrsBlobby and Dogmum: so pleased it's working out for you after the stresses you've been through.

Marthahm: best of luck with the hosses. Hope your OH appreciates all the effort you're going to (must be worth quite a few nice meals ).

Enjoy the weekend, looks like another sunny one in London but hopefully not ridiculously hot.

I sympathise Millee. Last time I just felt huge and hideous [not helped by the constant 'gosh you are huge', 'are you sure you are not due now' type comments! This time as I'm a bit more used to it I still feel like a smallish whale, but it doesn't seem such a problem.

Don't worry though you really do return to normal size fairly quickly [although, don't make the mistake I did and presume you'll be back into normal clothes within days of the birth...it does take a couple of weeks!] and then you'll miss your nice rounded baby filled bump [preferable to the saggy tummy straight after the birth!] But even that is worth it when you look at your gorgeous new born

Gingeme · 14/07/2006 19:55

Good evening ladies. Not much to report here either. Made the mistake of having a glass of Coke about 9pm last night and baby was doing somersaults for about an hour after. Think he was having a bit of a sugar rush. Ooops sorry baby. Off to swimming again tomm. Cant wait. Have a good one. Keep cool. xxxx

DogMum · 15/07/2006 10:07

Hello Ladies. It's been lovely to read your ttc stories. Each one really is special. DP came to my midwife appt yesterday and was concerned that they don't really 'do much', until I pointed out that no credit to me, my body is somehow doing all the work and that he would soon see action stations if anything were amiss in the few checks they make.

Wuzzle, with regard to appetite - aren't we supposed to eat an extra 300 calories a day in the third trimester? I've also read that our bodies are storing fat for breastfeeding - encouraging as the baby can only weigh one of the ten kilos I've put on. I also read that after the birth we can expect to be back down to six month-pregnant size, so I'll be coming home from hospital in a sundress. I've read so much pregnancy and baby stuff, I think I'll just read a novel this weekend. (Does that make me a bad mummy?)

Have a great holiday Marthahm. Hope the horses aren't too traumatic. And don't worry about your bikini line - or anything else you can't see.

wuzzlefraggle · 15/07/2006 13:32

yeah that sounds about right dogsmum re the higher calorie intake...and thanks ladies for replying with your appetite nigglings...ive decided that bugger it...if my body is asking for food, then it must need it lol

oh and i also back up the relax and have agood drink method for getting pregnant, as the weekend before i actually had my bfp, dh and i got absolutly bladdered lol

hope that everyone has a nice weekend!

nicand2 · 16/07/2006 20:13

Hello all, really enjoyed reading all the ttc stories too.

I met my first husband at 17 and married at 24 after a couple of years of marriage I came home from work to find he had left a note saying he didn't want to have children and as he knew I did he thought it was best to end it. After 6 months I started to see someone at work who was also going through a divorce, we hit it off really quickly and both wanted children but agreed the timing wasn't great and we should wait for everything to settle down, just after we had been together for 12 months we had the lovely surprise that I was expecting our DS1. He was 14 months old when my DH suggested we try for another but as I was due to be a bridesmaid for my sister next month I wanted to wait so I wouldn't let her down, however fate intervened again and low and behold I was already pregnant - so I've had 2 lovely surprises!

Gingeme · 16/07/2006 21:56

Hi all. Hope you had a good wkend. I met my first dp when we were 20 and soon moved in together. Then when I was 23 we moved to Cambridge where I soon fell for ds no1. He was a whopping 8lb10! Then after my midwife wagging her finger at me saying'breast feeding is not a form of contaceptive' I fell with ds no2 making it just 15 months between them. I hated Cambridge and was desperate to move back to London. We soon grew apart and he left me for another woman and with a 3 and 4 year old to look after. Soon I was on the council exchange list and got a move back'home'. I was on my own for a couple of years when I met up with an old school friend. We started hanging out again and I met her brother. He was in a rocky relationshp and left her and we started seeing eachother. A year later we got engaged and a year after that we were married. I lost ababy soon after our honeymoon which was a suprise as I didnt even know I was pregnant then a year later I gave birth to ds no 3. And now I am realy happy to say ds no4 is on his way in October.

Justers · 16/07/2006 22:25

hi hope everyone has had a good weekend. I met my husband on a blind date set up by my brother and sister in law! We got engaged after 5 months then married a year and a bit later. Just married for 4 months when i found out i was expecting. Like do things quickly!!

Swizzler · 17/07/2006 14:18

Dogmum: hope you enqjoyed your novel. I think you can read too much about pg and baby stuff - it just starts to worry you after a while!

Glad to hear other people are feeling whale-like: I'm a bit fed up with people at work saying 'ooh, you must be leaving soon' or 'not long to go'. I grump at them and point out that I've nearly 3 months left . I will soon lose all my friends and have to survive on kindly looks from complete strangers (sigh).

Getting hotter here, though still not too humid. I'm still managing to do some walking, although at a much slower speed. Planning to get some swimming in this week as well - it does seem to help with the sleep problems.

Hope everyone is feeling well - nearly on the 3rd trimester!

emmy01 · 17/07/2006 16:46

Hi ladies

I'm new to this site and I am due 21/10/06 i'm 23 and this is my first baby, glad to hear it's not just me struggling on through the heat I do feel a bit whale like now, though I am proud of my bump and I have a funny waddle like walk where bump is getting bigger. people keep asking how many weeks are you? and when I say 26 weeks they look at me funny saying ohh your not very big ! makes me feel i'm not doing things right the midwife said i'm ok though? any advice from you lovley ladies would be greatfully taken. my back hurts right at the bottom and round my hip like a shap shooting pain. any adivce on what bedding I need for baby and practical stuff would also be great.

Thanks to you all for the great stories. em x

jmcmugwump · 17/07/2006 18:16

Welcome to all the newbies ,
I haven't logged on for a week and my haven't we all been busy?

Fistly it's too bl'*8?y hot, am sat here in sun top and pants wting a fab lolly (baby needs it) and will shortly be plunging my feet into a bucket of ice water I think, am feeling really fluid retentiony today whichis not like me at all, I know we always complain at the weather but this is just not good. Oh well heat moan over.

Gladd all the ladies who met up had such a good time, was going to try and make it but oh woke me up at 4am and would have been a real rush to get there for 6.30 from work - hope to make the next one though

Emmy01 - I am also having real problems sleeping - not just the heat but wiht lots of lower back pain and my hips keep going numb - any suggestions on these foam matresses - quite frankly it has got to the stage I have to do something about it or I shall spend the next 3 months sleeping on the sofa I did have back pain before I got pg, but the physio's & osteopaths don't seem to like working on pg people, and I asked my midwife to refer me to someone at the hospital and she said there isn't anyone

Will stop now as post is getting v long - take care in the hot. x.x

wuzzlefraggle · 17/07/2006 21:00

hi ladies...i sympathise completely re the heat...its melting me too. had the midwife appointment today, all went well and luckily shes a really lovely lady. she let us listen to the babys heartbeat, which was fantastic!!

emmy - welcome to the thread! all these ladies on here are lovely this is my first too and its a pink one...you having a boy or a girl?

hope that everyones doing well xox

Gemmitygem · 18/07/2006 04:27

welcome emmy; I have exactly the same sharp pain at the back of my pelvis/back.. sacroiliac joint or something? Personally I've found walking makes it a lot worse, and doing pilates and going on the cross trainer or fixed bike (where your hips are fixed and can't sway) really helps to strengthen it; also trying to keep legs together when getting in and out of bed etc. But what a pain!.. I think there are specialised physios who deal with pregnancy, there was a thread about it somewhere on mumsnet. Unfortunately it seems to be very common as everything softens up for the birth.

swizzler, know what you mean about people asking how long you have to go; in my case they're saying 'ooh you look big!' I never realised before I was pregnant how important it is NEVER to comment on the size of a pregnant woman's bump! or indeed any aspect of her appearance, because if people say 'you look glowing' you secretly wonder if they mean it, and if they say 'are you starting to get tired yet?' you think 'oh great, I look awful!'

Only three weeks to go till I fly back for mat leave, hurrah! (but also feel nervy at thought of camping out at parents and in-laws' across 2 different countries for the next 6 months while having a baby!) Oh well shouldn't whinge as I get such good maternity leave.

Hope the heat's treating you all well! It's dry heat here so OKish..

Gingeme · 18/07/2006 09:12

Its too bloody HOT . Sorry but Im realy not coping with it and this just isnt like me!
I went to a bbq on Saturday and the first comment when my friend opened her door was'wow your huge!'. Thanks love. Im getting back ache too mostly of an evening when Im watching tele. Sat in all our chairs but cant get comfy. Then I lay on the floor and get heartburn. Cant win realy. Oh well Ive had my moan now. Thanks for listening he he.

emmy01 · 18/07/2006 09:26

Hi,

Thanks ladies, havent yet experienced the dreaded fluid retention but i'm sure its on its way, I sat in a bath of cool water last night I was sooooooo hot, it was bliss.

wuzzlefraggle- dont know what i'm having, we decided to have a suprise, our local hosp in poole wont tell you anyway. I'm so excited. So your having a pink one are you decked out in pink or are you keeping control untill little one arrives! I think it is a saving grace I dont know what sex because I would be shopping for england, and we need to save the pennies now more than ever!

Gemmitygem - ah belss you I know how you feel, not much fun when every step you take feels like an electric shock in the bum/leg, like you say everything is getting softer, my midwife said it will take up to a year for the ligiments to return to normal after being pg, great!! I find a pillow between my knees at night most comfy and I am just about to get an under bump pillow to help as well.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Emmy x

Swizzler · 18/07/2006 10:00

Hi Emmy and welcome!

Re back pain, why not try postural classes like Alexander Technique or Pilates? Both are suitable for pregnancy (if you get someone who knows what they are doing). Or you can get pg pilates videos. I've been doing Alexander lessons and it really seems to have helped - no backache so far. You can develop all sorts of postural probs during pg as your weight balance shifts, and tho it might not cause joint probs it prob doesn't help!

at the heat - probs sleeping again last night. Am planning on going swimming after work in the hope that the buses might cool down a bit before I have to travel.

wuzzlefraggle · 18/07/2006 11:20

emmy - na, we've not gone madly pink yet lol. we are controlling ourselves very well

oh my god its TOO HOT!!! anyone see the wether forcast this morning? tomorrows meant to be 35 degrees !!! im melting i swear!

DogMum · 18/07/2006 12:24

Welcome Emmy. My due date is 21 October as well and it's my first. Sorry to hear about your backpain. Have you considered osteopathy? (I know Marthahm is away, so I feel I ought to suggest it.) You'd need to find a practitioner who deals with pregnant women. I consulted an osteopath five years ago for recurring back problems and I haven't needed to go back again. I think because he dealt with the source of the problem rather than the symptoms, whereas the physio I'd had before just solved the problem in the short term. Honestly, these people are so good, I'm surprised they don't do themselves out of a job.

As for size, I was out with some friends yesterday evening who were all convinced they were my size at the end of their pregnancies. I think they must have rose-coloured memories. I'm sure I must have made comments on people's bumps before, but now I hope I'll know better.

nicand2 · 18/07/2006 12:50

Has anyone got any good tips for getting cool enough to get to sleep? I had an awful night last night and it looks as if it's going to get hotter. I really feel like crying (probably lack of sleep) I managed to drop off last night by having a cold flannel on my head.

Does anyone have one of these air conditioning units? they are so expensive but I'm getting more and more desperate.

Feel even more fed up because I ordered a lovely pair of shoes for my sisters wedding in 3 weeks, they arrived today and I can't even get my toes in them!

emmy01 · 18/07/2006 12:53

Dogmum - hello I will def look into that! I am so tired today luckly office is air con so its really cool in here.

re size I think every one is diffrent I just smile now when people comment and saying thank you, and then ignoring it completely , people wouldnt go up to you normally and comment on how big or small your tummy is or keep touching it, whats that about? a lady on the bus the other day said 'ah a little bump coming on nicely' and rubed my bump I didnt even know her! I did laugh in a nervous sort of way. it kind of sweet really.

So Oct 21st is 'B' Day foryou too have to say its wizzing by cant beleive we have got this far already. I'm starting to get excited now. do you know what your having ? people keep joking with me saying i will give birth on halloween if its late!

emmy x

emmy01 · 18/07/2006 13:00

nicand2 - try an open window (if pratical) and put a desk fan in the window so the back faces out it will suck the cool air from out side in to the room and blow it around, I to had a rubbish night, and i am practicaly falling asleep at myu desk today, before I went to bed I got in to a cool/cold bath and air dried that worked quite well. how nice would it be to go for a swim in a cool pool right now then curl up in a cool bed and go to sleep..... oh I think i'm dreaming....

Sunshine78 · 18/07/2006 13:52

My DH has just gone out and purchased an air conditioniong unit as I am feeling phsically ill from the heat. Will let you know how we get on

Gingeme · 18/07/2006 13:54

emmy01 my baby is due on Halloween! How many people have said 'are you going to call him Damien?'. We know were having a boy. Osteopaths are brill or atleast the one I saw after ds3 was. I turned to get him out of his moses basket in the morning and popped my back just below my bra strap and couldnt move. It was the morning of my sil wedding too. Called this guy saw him at 11.30 am and was free of pain by 12.30 and ready to dance the night away. Saw him for 3 more sessions and have never suffered since.

mamado · 18/07/2006 14:22

For extreme heat and humidity [apparently going to get more humid tomorrow - oh no!] at night, try sleeping under a damp sheet. This is a well used trick in the tropics and works on the principle that you keep cool [rather than sweatimg] while the water in the sheet evaporates. Have to say I just can't stand this as I hate the feeling of sleeping under a damp sheet but dp has had some ok nights sleep with this method.

Also, if hot at home I get a cold bottle/can out of the fridge and sit with it under my feet - looks silly but feels nice!

Good luck.....
