Thought I'd start a new one..

But will make sure no-one's left on the old one.

Hope everyone is blooming and not too hot!

hope everyone has a great time tonight! I'll be with you in spirit!

Haven't measured bump but my (female) boss said 'are you sure you're not expecting twins?' yesterday . About a million not very polite replies came to my lips but managed to stifle them! I've spent ages looking at other people's bumps on the Internet (is this weird), and there's a lot of variation at 26 weeks..

Gingeme, sending you lots of hugs: as others have said it sounds like you're making a difficult decision in the best interests of your kids and I can only applaud you!

Wuzzle, glad the wedding and honeymoon were great..

oops must go as just realised I'm late for work.

hi bensmum, i know how you feel re weight and bump size. i swing from worrying it's too big then too small then too big... anyway i've had a measure for you but we only had a metal tape measure so not sure of accuracy, am 38inches.

Gingeme · 11/07/2006 10:24

Good morning ladies. Hope you all have an excelent evening today. Eat a couple of slices for me. I had a dream the other night about my bump being massive and I had gestenational diebetes but they found out too late and the baby was going to be 12lb+. Havnt actualy measured it as such but got a mw appt this afternoon so Ill let her reasure me.

whiffy · 11/07/2006 10:45

I'm as big as a whale and certainly not going anywhere near a tape measure

I was even larger with DS and hated my shape all the way through. I had a friend who expanded to being a size 10 by the time her pg ended and walked out of hospital a size 8. I remember being so jealous of her, then I found out that her DD had to have an operation on her arms because they wouldn't rotate properly, all arising because she was 'growth restricted' in the womb and I discovered that my friend had been desperately trying to put weight on during PG and had a dreadful time of it. I guess the moral is that so long as baby is snuggled in and happy enough during pg then we should stop worrying about size and stuff till we stop Breastfeeding (and then we can all get paranoid again after that, as is our wont). So no-one'll get me to measure myself or weigh myself, and all I'll say on subject is that I bet I'm bigger than anyone else even beofre stuffing myself with pizza tonight

Has anyone else got, as my mum would call it, 'ants in their pants'???? I just can't sit/lie still for an instant. Have to fidget and get up and get down all the time and it is driving me absolutely bloody nuts at the moment, and I cannot pinpoint any reason at all for it. Or am I just mad?

Swizzler · 11/07/2006 11:05

40 inches . Where did my waist go? And yes, I've had several of the twins comments as well . Ah well, at least I'll be easy to spot at the meet-up tonight.

Gingeme: glad everything seems to be working out for you. Have noticed that families react much better when there's a crisis, even when they a PITA the rest of the time.

Yes, I am restless - still not sleeping very well. Baby also very restless and keeping OH awake at night by booting him in the back . Now I'm managing to walk again, will try and get more exercise and see if that helps. And, of course, pizza.

wuzzlefraggle · 11/07/2006 11:14

hi ladies!

hope that you all have a nice meet-up tonight

ooo, just got the tape measure around my bump and its 37" lol

i havn't felt the baby kick as much as usual this morning, so im starting to panick a little. do any of you lot have days when the baby isnt as active as usual??

mamado · 11/07/2006 12:06

Hello All,
Just found this thread and having read it all with much interest would love to become part of your group! I'm 27 weeks with a 2 and half year old dd and its lovely to hear everyone else having similar experiences with the heat, sleeping and transport!!! Although since I was last pregnant over the summer of 2003 I just knew we'd have a hot one this summer - seems to be fate that I'm pregnant whenever we have a heatwave!
Wish I'd known earlier about your meet up tonight as would have loved to come...maybe next time. Hope you all have a good one!

Gingeme · 11/07/2006 12:12

Hi mamado and welcome . The ladies are realy lovely on here and theyve beeen realy supportive too. Any troubles no matter how big or small dont be afraid to give it an airing here. I have a two year old ds and Im expecting another boy. Already having 2 older ones. Maybe the next England team eh?

wuzzlefraggle · 11/07/2006 12:20

welcome to the thread mamado!
are you having a pink one or a blue one this time?

whiffy · 11/07/2006 12:36

Hay mamado...you're welcome to join us tonight if you want....

I have a DS who was born in November 03 so know what you mean about heatwaves...but then I'm a glutten for punishment because this Friday we are off to Italy for a weeks' holiday...can't for the life of me remember why I thought it a good idea when I booked it....

Actually I'm fibbing a bit as I'm quite looking forward to the break - am going to the ParentsNeedPampering place that this website raves about and I got all the details through this week of the massages on offer and all the free nanny activities that they lay on for the kids. Am planning on smuggling in a couple of bottles of fizz and 6 of Gaviscon and will be all set for the week....

I was wondering, Gemmity - what's the weather like in thingamystan?

mamado · 11/07/2006 13:35

WOW! Thanks for the really warm welcome! I never did the nct etc thingy so have never really felt part of a 'mums support group' before, so thank you all for making me feel so welcome. Can't make tonight but will keep watching for the next meet up [am based south London]
Expecting another girl which we are both very happy about. Hope dd will be as happy when the time comes, she seems quite up for it at the moment, but that might all change once the little'un is here and needing time and attention!!! Whiffy, what date was your ds born? My dd is 29th Nov 03 - hope the just under three year age gap will be a good one!
Enjoy yourselves tonight...

DogMum · 11/07/2006 14:18

Welcome Mamado. My dog is about the same age as your dd. I don't know about children (yet!), but I think three years is an ideal age gap for a dog and a baby - I'll have a nice calm adult dog with plenty of years of fun in him (hopefully) for a growing child. Is your dd toilet-trained, or likely to be by October? I guess that might make a difference to the ease of the age gap (not to mention the expense.) We're thinking of going compostable (on the nappy front), I've heard Moltex are good. I considered washables, but I know I wouldn't be able to keep on top of it.

btw - I've measured my girth and was quite shocked. If I wasn't knitting baby clothes, I'd hide the tape measure. Fortunately, I don't own scales. Unfortunately, my midwife wants me to get on hers every time I see her.

Have only just had lunch, but the thought of pizza is making me hungry again. I can't worry about those extra inches right now.

majormoo · 11/07/2006 14:26

welcome mamado. I had DD in the middle of the 03 August heatwave-I was too scared to take her outside for days after she was born. At least it won't be hot in October! I am hoping the 3 year gap will be good too. My dd seems quite keen on the sibling idea at the moment but who knows how it will go when her little brother arrives!

3 of my friends (well 2 friends, 1 friend of a friend!) have had little girls over the last two weeks and I have to admit to a bit of jealously. What is going on there? My reaction doesn't really make sense because I am delighted to be having a boy and really excited when I imagine talking about 'my son'. I am obviously just loopy and want it all!

wuzzle, I definitely have days when I feel the baby less than others. I find it hard not to worry, but I guess that they have quiet days too.

Regarding size of bumps, I am tall and consequently have what looks like a small bump, so I have to contend with constantly being told that I don't look six months pregnant. I think people mean well but would rather they said nothing.

Have a great time tonight

Whiffy I definitely have ants in my pants too. I think it is just so much going on in my mind in my case.

Swizzler · 11/07/2006 14:28

Yes, what is it about getting weighed? I thought they didn't worry unless you were under/overweight to start with . Would really prefer not to know.

Not sure which sounds worse: having put on 1.5 stone in weight or a foot round the waist

Welcome Mamado: feel free to share any tips for dealing with heatwaves! I'm London based too for the time being - planning to move to a bit more space after the baby arrives.

bensmum3 · 11/07/2006 15:06

Thankyou for the measurements, reassured that even though I still weigh less than before pregnant my bump probably isnt that small after all.
3 years was the gap between dd and ds1, then had nearly 6 yrs till ds2 and the gap will be just over 3 years when I have this one.I think as long as older siblings are included and given plenty of attention any kind of gap can work well.
I'm feeling very jealous that most of you know the sex of your babies already, they don't do routine scans up here so will have to wait.I used washable nappies on ds2 and will be using them again, if you have a washing machine they really are easy nowadays.I think little green earthlets have a special offer on multipacks of compostable nappies at the moment though.
Have a great meetup, all this talk of pizza, I'm going to have to make one soon,

Gingeme · 11/07/2006 17:24

Just got back from my 24 week check up. All is well with baby. Though the mw said hes a little large for 24 weeks! How can they tell? Hes got alot of growing to do yet. Asked about the loads of veins at the back of my right knee too. She said its nothing to worry about unless they go hard or red then I have to get a pair of surgical stockings.
Well enjoy your night ladies hope well meet at aleater date. xxxxxxxx

welcome mamado and milliee,

hope the meet up was fun!

Whiffy, weather in Kazakhstan, at least in Almaty which is in the mountains, is fine.. about 25-30 degrees, but dry heat, lots of green trees and regular thunderstorms which are quite refreshing. So not suffering too much. Also feeling very restless: maybe it's a natural thing which helps to keep us moving and prevent varicose veins or something..

wuzzle: also panic when baby doesn't move for a bit, but it always starts up eventually.. I think they must go through periods of vegging out, just like us!

Um, does anyone know exactly how support tights/flight socks etc actually work? I'm thinking of my 8 hour flight home at 30 weeks beginning of Aug.. Logically, I can see how moving around the plane and flexing your legs could stop the veins getting blocked, but how can wearing constraining tights help? I'd have thought it made it worse?

welcome to the thread milliee! im due at the end-ish of october too (the 24th)

hope that you ladies that went to the meet-up had a good time and enjoyed your pizza lol.

Gingeme · 12/07/2006 08:36

Hope you all stuffed your faces last night No Im not sure how those stockings work either! Was suggested to get some by my mw if my viens on my leg go hard. Still guess they must help somehow.Welcome Millee dont think your filling will affect baby. Suppose it would be different if you swallowed it in its liquid form. Gonna be a hot one today. Get those fans on and your bottles of water at the ready. XX

catgirl · 12/07/2006 10:29

welcome to newbies! Good to have some due later in October to keep me company, I am due 31st!

Lovely to meet Whiffy, Dogmum, Swizzler, Marthahm and Mrs Blobby last night.

Whiffy - did you want me to see if I can get you a copy of the 'House in my Mummy' book - have a very good local bookshop where I bought my copy from - happy to and post it. Meant to ask last night, but conversation kept meandering!

Marthahm - very nice B&B, near Baker St - www.22yorkstreet.co.uk - we stayed there a couple of years ago for a rare night away (nothing as swish as Wiffy's lovin' spa hotel!)

Hope you (we) all manage to keep cool today - might pay a visit to waitrose freezer section at lunch time!

Swizzler · 12/07/2006 11:31

Welcome Milliee - hope all is going well with you.

I think the stockings work by stopping blood pooling in your feet and lower legs, which happens when your veins aren't working properly. Good to know what to look out for, as I have really prominent veins on the back of my legs (and my feet and hands) too.

Good to meet other pg people yesterday - the baby obviously appreciates pizza as was happily tumbling about all night ... am going to try giving up chocolate and other sweet stuff for a while to see if it calms down! I agree, Dogmum, that everyone looked a bit startled when we all stood up and lurched for the exit. Big thanks to Whiffy for organising everything.

I measured myself again when I got home and I'd shrunk to 40 inches - would recommend the pizza and wine diet for controlling the waistline .

So are we meeting up in August? Any suggestions?

DogMum · 12/07/2006 18:51

Welcome Milliee. I don't think white fillings are anything to worry about. If you have an NHS dentist though, don't forget it's free to get it sorted. (Am I the only one with an NHS dentist? We don't have anything else round my way.)

It was fabulous to meet the ladies yesterday and have uninterrupted conversation about being pregnant and having babies, as well as stuffing a face full of pizza. Thanks for organising, Whiffy.

Seona1973 · 12/07/2006 20:20

Hope everyone enjoyed the meet up and the pizza -shame I couldnt join you but it was too much of a commute from Scotland!!

Welcome to the newbies as well.

Mamado and Whiffy, I also have a November 03 lo - 5th November so no chance of forgetting her birthday!! All the family invite themselves round for a fireworks display and dd thinks its all just for her - bless her.

Has anyone else started buying anything yet? We got the swinging crib and it is built (so dh could check all the bits were there). Have bought a reduced mamas and papas sleeping bag from Matalan for £15 and have ordered a couple more proper grobags from Babies r us that are also reduced (I am such a cheapskate). I have also just been to get my free huggies newborn starter set from Boots (with vouchers you get when you join the Boots parenting club) and have used other vouchers to get free pampering products from there too - my savings were around £46 so not bad really.

Havent got the pram/travel system yet as dh complained about getting it too early like the last time as I decided I didnt like it in the end and ended up getting a different buggy - waste of money really!!

Thats the only thing about having a boy this time - I have loads of girls stuff that we kept 'just in case' and now we will have to start from scratch again.

Have got my next ante-natal appointment tomorrow which is a consultant one - they will decide if I have to go for a glucose tolerance test as I had borderline gestational diabetes the last time - thankfully it was diet controlled so didnt need to inject insulin. Hope everyone is well and sorry for rambling on

Gingeme · 12/07/2006 23:17

Seona My baby is due 31st October. Haloween! If I have him a day early it falls on my step ds bday. If a week early(Ishould be so lucky) it will be my nephews bday and if hes a week late(more likely) it will be my bday 6th Nov. So hes got a wide choice of dates to hit or miss. Feel like crap today my 2 year old ds is realy messing about going to sleep. My 12 year ds doesnt help by chating to him and lauging (they all share a room). I just got in my bath and let dh get on with it in the end. Pleased to say theyre all asleep now.
