I am trying to chill about it (and thanks for your story, too!) but it is hard......they are gits, they have set precedents for other people (a couple of extra weeks holiday here and there) and it makes me feel like cr@p! Also, I have to get out there and defend the organisation to employees, very difficult to do when I feel shat upon!!!! Wooosaaaah! You're right, it's the heat! (and 6 weeks is a paltry amount to stay at home and bond with my baby!). Yah boo sucks!!

Gingeme · 03/07/2006 16:03

Thanks Whiffy that makes it a bit easier to lok up.

wuzzlefraggle · 03/07/2006 20:20

justers, sounds like you are getting a similar thing to me. im sure that the heat has something to do with it tho.

dogmum, glad that you had a nice time on your hols

Swizzler · 03/07/2006 20:27

Squishy: make sure you take all you're entitled to by law anyway, including time off for appointments etc. They do have to do some things, so make sure they don't wriggle out of it!

I think London's supposed to be hot all week - we do have air con at work and I'm going to make sure it's switched on all the time. Some people complain about it being too cold but frankly I DON'T CARE.

Top tip from weekend - stick feet in bowl of cold water with a bit of salt added. Instant relief

Hope you're all taking things easy in the heat.

Gingeme · 04/07/2006 09:17

Good morning ladies. Be careful with the air con though every time my Dad uses it in his carit gives my Mum a cold. Shes the same with it on an aeroplane.
I finaly heard my babys heart beat on my prenatal monitor last night. Gets very noisy when baby kicks too but glad I finaly heard his little heart
Gonna be another hot one today. Did my housework last night after the sun went down. So much cooler and nice to wake up to a lovely fresh flat.
Well try not to melt today. Take Care all xxx

Seona1973 · 04/07/2006 13:19

went for my 4D scan yesterday - it was good but was still a little disappointed cos the little sod was asleep and wouldnt wake up despite walking about and drinking cold water!! Baby was also lying transverse with a hand partially covering his face and the cord was over the bottom of his chin - got some scary looking pictures (although some were quite nice). And you've guessed it - its going to be a boy . (dd disagreed with the sonographer though and told her it was going to be a girl - bless her)

DD was a bit of a nightmare but we did have to wait around for about 40 minutes in the waiting room and by the time we got in she was bored so was jumping off little steps and playing with the blinds - dh was not impressed. We had taken my mum with us and after the scan we all went out for a chinese meal. I think we were all exhausted after the trip (me, my mum and dd took the train into glasgow for the scan and dh met us there so our journey started at about 14:30 and we dropped my mum home at about 19:00).

I dont know if it was worth £195 but still glad to go as we dont get a 20 week scan here and the sonographer seemed to think everything looked ok regarding growth, etc. I have got my dvd and cd-rom of pictures as a keepsake so must stop moaning!!

Hope everyone else is having a good day and it is not too hot for you - we are only at about 17 degrees here just now (Scotland) so not too hot and bothered yet.

Rianna · 04/07/2006 14:55

so you are going to meet eachother? to lazy to get my diary from upsatirs now- will check later if i can come.
just been nearly 5 days in hospital- daughter has broken arm at games at school- am so fed up- will try to arrange an home-birth even if dh doesn't agree- too bad for him. if he warms me some M&S food up , it will be better then the hospital1

majormoo · 04/07/2006 15:42

Hi everyone. Back from a lovely holiday in France. The wedding we went to was lovely as well although REALLY hot. Drive back was hard work too as we have no air con in car. Hope you are all doing OK. My bump has expanded rapidly over the holiday (all those croissants and pain au chocolat can't have anything to do with it!). How are you all doing?

Had a very quick skim of thread-glad wedding went well Mrs Wuzzle.

squishy-as Whiffy said, I think generally mat pay is pretty rubbish for most people anyway. One of my friends who has just announced she is pregnant works for the Foreign Office and gets 6 months full pay, all right for some!!! Our statutory is much lower than other European countries.

First day back at work and 12 weeks til mat leave. Seems such a long time away. At least I only work three days!

wuzzlefraggle · 04/07/2006 19:14

welcome back majormoo, glad that you had a nice holliday in france! (and thank you )

seona, were you hoping for a boy then? its always nice to see the baby isnt it. very reassuring imo

hope that the rest of you are all doing well and not finding the heat too bad (i swear its making me melt!)

it seems crazy doesnt it...we are hitting/closely hitting our 3rd trimester...looking back now it all seems to have gone so quickly

hana · 04/07/2006 19:18

anyone else crunching icecubes? Have gone through a whole tray during the kids suppertime!
its so hot here

am melting I think!

wuzzlefraggle · 04/07/2006 19:23

not quite eating entire treys of ice cubes yet, but i seem to be obsessed with drinks and food that is freezing cold (ice cream etc) so i know how you feel there

marthahm · 05/07/2006 04:57

i'm almost at the crunching ice cubes stage. one of our friends said last night that he was feeling really hot tooand that dh probably was too-the overheating combined with the hormonal rage nearly had me leaping up to throttle him.-men, honestly!
can't sleep plus seem to be getting hungrier and hungrier hence up at 4.30 eating a bowl of cereal.

Swizzler · 05/07/2006 09:37

PLEASE let it rain! Mind you, the rain yesterday just made it more humid, not cooler. I never thought I'd be looking forward to possible hailstorms!

Sympathise with the no sleeping bit - can't get off for ages then woken early with cramps. Obv need to eat more ice-cream .

I'm travelling to Wales over the weekend for a conference, so hope the weather calms down a bit by then. I do have a couple of days off next week to catch up on my sleep, tho.

May have asked this already, but when does the 3rd trimester start? 28 weeks? Now 26w.

Gingeme · 05/07/2006 09:58

Morning ladies. I slept all the way through last night for the first time in months! Mind you think it helps my dh is on nights so I havnt got him fidgeting from the heat all night. I never know what trimester starts and when one supposed to finnish! Ive been drnking and drinking and drinking cold drinks. Bought some ice pops on Saturday 100 in a box. Got about 5 left. Babys realy on the move now too. Can feel little feet and hands. Think all the drinking Ive been doing is giving him hic cups . We had thunder storms yesterday. Hasnt made much difference to the temp though .

squishy · 05/07/2006 10:24

Ugh! Seem to have a night of OK sleep and then one of terrible, interupted. Guess which last night's was?!! Doing fine, until cats started making a row outside our bedroom window, got up to go to the loo anyway (as we do!) and thought I'd just go and let them in - DH woke and said he would. So the cats f'ed about a bit then DH came back to bed and 45 mins later announced that he couldn't sleep with my tossing and turning and got up to sleep on the sofa (what is wrong with the perfectly good spare bed, I ask you!).

This morning, he accused me of waking him to tell him about the cats; had to remind him that he asked me first. But I had to get up early for work and he got to sleep on the sofa till 10!! Not a bad deal, methinks!

Gads, just can't cope with this heat AND a moody man who doesn't get the pregnancy/sleep/heat issues!!!!!!! [steam coming out of ears in exasperation emoticon!!!!]

nicand2 · 05/07/2006 12:02

Is anyone else getting really bad leg cramps at night? I suffered a couple of nights ago and my calf still hurts and feels really hard. Not sure if the heat has caused it or what I should do about it.

Gingeme · 05/07/2006 12:14

Yes Im getting bad knots in my calf muscles too. Get mine in the morning when I stretch and all of a sudden my calf is in spasm. It kills me realy hurts. Got them with ds3 and my Mum told me to drink tonic water. Not sure why but it seemed to do the trick. Keep circling your ankles when you can too bring oxygen to the muscle. Good luck xx

whiffy · 05/07/2006 12:16

Leg cramps really common in pg. I'm leaping out of bed on average about 5 times a week yelling because of it - not v good idea as leaping in itself v painful when you have SPD. No idea what you can do about the cramps -maybe good qn for the midwives.

Nothing to report. hot hot hot but rainclouds gatheirng over the city so keeping fingers crossed that my raindances are about to pay off.

Very glum in office today as I work in a German bank. And some are blaming me personally because in a sweepstake yesterday I put down for Italy to win in extra time. oops. roll on matenrity leave...

Keep reading this thread and waiting for people to 'fess up to feeling very fruity at this point in pg, but silence across the webwaves... wonder if it's only me. Nah, can't be

DogMum · 05/07/2006 12:26

Glad your trip went well Majormoo, and your scan Seona. I can understand why you wanted the baby to move if you got a DVD.

Having read your posts Ladies, I'm feeling guilty about the amount of sleep I'm getting (especially seeing the time of your post, marthahm). Apart from getting up for the obligatory wee in the middle of the night, I'm sleeping better than ever. I don't suppose my body's storing it though, so I can't help thinking I'll be in for a tough time when the baby arrives. (that sounds painless doesn't it - arrives, as if they just turn up.)

As for maternity pay being sh1t compared to other European countries, it's true. But I lived in Germany for a while and it just made it more difficult for women of child-bearing age to get jobs in the first place. I guess we've got a bum deal wherever we are.

The rain has arrived but doesn't seem to be making a difference to the temperature. I got wet this morning walking the dog, but was dry again by the time we got home.

DogMum · 05/07/2006 12:31

Just saw your post about fruit, whiffy. I would say make the most of it, because from what I can understand (never having done this before), it may be some time before you feel like it again afterwards.

I was feeling the same until the whole thing set off a load of violent uterus-shaking contractions, which are apparently normal - and now I feel put off the idea completely.

majormoo · 05/07/2006 12:53

well i am not feeling fruity at all. Lucky you and your DH whiffy!! I was thinking about it this morning, and I am sure I was by about this time in my pregnancy with DD. Think I need to put a bit of effort in!!!

3rd trimester is from 28 weeks I think.

Seona1973 · 05/07/2006 12:59

after all the posts about anti-d it now turns out that my health authority doesnt do them as standard 'yet'. I will get one if I have a fall, crash, etc but apart from that it will just be after the birth as before.

I think I live in the wrong place - no anomoly scan (not enough people trained and no money to train them apparently!!) and no anti-d at 28 and 34 weeks. . I was at my midwife appointment today so was bending her ear a bit!!

p.s. the third trimester starts from your 27th week

1st - 1-13weeks
2nd - 14-26 weeks
3rd - 27-40 weeks

according to the Bounty book anyway.

I am officially in my third trimester - yeah!! Only 3 months till we get a screaming, puking bundle handed to us. At least I will be more prepared for the change it makes to your life - hope to be a bit more laid back and less paranoid about being a bad mummy this time.

Seona1973 · 05/07/2006 13:06

p.s. for all those complaining of leg cramps, here is a link to Babycentre with ideas of how to help minimise them:

Leg cramps

emzickle · 05/07/2006 13:54

Ooo... my baby is due in October too - Im 26 weeks today, feeling very overwhelmed by everything though .

Had random emotional attack last night driving home with other half from my parents house - burst into tears, refused to drive any further. O dear. Any one else still a soppy idiot?
Probably not. Probably just me.

catgirl · 05/07/2006 14:04

just scanned some of the recent posts - I second the tonic water suggestions for cramps - a glass a night - worked like a dream last time - something to do with the quinine (sp?) in it.

(whispers - yes me and dh have big grins at the mo - long may it last !)

Anti D - last time (nearly 4 years ago), it was routine at my hospital to give the jab after birth, depending on blood group of baby - this time it is a jab at 28weeks and 34 weeks AND afterwards if necessary. Think I may have repeated what someone else just said - sorry!

Looking forward to pizza next week!
