Hello- just checking in.

Thanks for all your comments, really helps Smile had the heart scan this morning and all looks normal at this stage, thank god. Going for glucose test in morn and will possibly have amnio...if we can eliminate infection/diabetes that just leaves blocked bowel in baby or chromosome disorder (or just big baby)....have been researching (bad idea) and basically some chromosome disorders are v v v serious so I think we need to know what we're dealing with....really scared tho as obv a 1% chance of mc. Such a stress deciding what to do....but think we will. Of course it could be nothing and the not knowing is driving me and! Going to quiz the consultant tomoz with my list of questions and go from there!

Huge good luck to all those with scans soon Smile. Saw today we are defo team blue- bits were massively on show!!

Dawn I had physio (private) when pregnant with DS. Spent a fortune, it didn't help at all. £25 on a deep tissue massage 2 weeks ago and I'm sorted :) Obviously everyone is different though...

Also bought one of these which I use every few days on myself (mostly my buttocks where the pain originates from for me). Would strongly recommend...

Zazou good luck for the tests, it must be agony not knowing what's going on.

Feeling for those of you with pain, I'm starting to find lower back is sore at work but can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to get a new chair.

Had some amazing news today, the company have finally realised their statutory mat pay policy sucked and are now offering expecting mums an enhanced package! And I'm eligible! Does mean I have to work for 2yrs once I return (or I pay the enhanced bit back) but by my calcs we are now hopefully in the lucky position of not having to dip into our savings as much as previously thought. I'm so shocked - I work for a very corporate private sector organisation who usually do the bare minimum for staff benefits - this is unheard of for them to go above and beyond legal requirements!

Sorry for the boast, I'm just so happy we have a little bit of financial good news - still in limbo waiting for DH's redundancy consultation to finish so no idea if he has a job yet.

Yay for team pink/blue additions this week! Super yay for those with nerves of steel who are still team yellow!

19+2

Zazou - glad to hear the heart scan looks ok and fingers crossed all the other tests are ok too. I really feel for you having to go through all this. X

ras105 · 23/09/2013 21:48

Thanks sugarmice and marzipan bed for ideas! Not sure about the deep cleaning :D but I guess it does have to be done!! Like the idea of volunteering though. I have looked at pregnancy yoga and aqua aerobics etc but as we're now relying just on my husband I don't feel it's fair to spend that money on me.

Glad to hear about the scans that are going well and good luck to those that are still investigating, I hope all turns out ok.

Discussed baby names with my mum today (is it too early for that?!) and it has helped me come to terms with it being a boy! I still hope to have a girl someday though :s

Also today read the 'count the kicks' thread and omg.....scared :(

gnittinggnome · 23/09/2013 22:20

zazou in case this helps with the stress a little, I was reading a review of Emily Oster's book "Expecting Better" and it goes a little into amniocentesis and the risks as understood through modern analysis (basically that the 1 in 100 figure appears to be based on 20+ year old data)
Full review here: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/aug/25/pregnancy-hard-facts-emily-oster

I hope you get good news!

gnittinggnome · 23/09/2013 22:37

Sorry, proper clicky link:

EeyoreIsh · 24/09/2013 05:53

zazou I hope your consultant's appointment goes well. The uncertainty must be awful. If you can afford it, I've heard people on other threads rave about a testing centre in London (harmony?) that are supposed to be v good. I've no idea how much it'll cost though, and if it's feasible to go to London for.

I'm awake super early as my cold has now settled on my chest. I've done so well this pregnancy with my asthma, in fact at my asthma check up a few weeks back it was the best it's been for years. Now I'm coughing and wheezing like a 40 a day smoker! my wonderful DH has made me (decaff) tea and a hot cross bun. I hope my pelvic floor stands up to this all coughing Grin

Oh well, another working at home day for me. My colleagues will forget what I look like soon!

Thingymajigs · 24/09/2013 07:07

ras, I volunteer at a charity shop that sells baby and children's items. I would love to work but no employer would put up with me taking time out for my son's hospital and doctors appointments so I keep busy by volunteering. I'd definitely recommend it just for the company and to keep the CV experience going. It also helps to be able to talk about work with DP instead of just saying 'I cleaned today' whilst feeling a bit underappreciated and useless as he goes off to work full-time.

sunflowered · 24/09/2013 08:15

zazou I've just been given the Emily Oster book - haven't got to the amnio section yet but if that's looking like the route you need to take let me know if you'd like me to pm you some of the facts and figures she's used in that bit? Hope everything goes well though and fx that's not something you need to think about.

misskatamari · 24/09/2013 08:33

Hmm Eeyore I'm feeling your pain. I'm off work as my cold seems to have brought back my sickness (think it's all the coughing bleurgh). I feel so guilty being off but I know I'd feel worse if I went in and had to be on my feet all day being active and attempting to teach whilst feeling ill and having to run and be sick. I just hope work are understanding. DH keeps telling me off for worrying as I need to think about my health.

I hope your chest feels better soon. Look after yourself and fingers crossed for the pelvic floor!

EeyoreIsh · 24/09/2013 09:29

Oh misskatamari sorry you're suffering too. I'm really minded to call in sick and laze on the sofa but we have a really strict sickness policy at work now, so I'll try to do some work from my sickbed!

winterflowers · 24/09/2013 10:10

Health is definitely the priority...I agree with your DH misskatamari

But you can always send strategically timed emails from the sick bed and give the appearance of working ferociously whilst watching Jeremy kyle, homes under the hammer, and other daytime tv gems Wink

SugarMiceInTheRain · 24/09/2013 10:39

Sorry so many of you are suffering at the moment. I agree that you have to take care of your health. I've been feeling really light headed and even more tired than usual the past couple of days. Actually felt like I was going to faint at the DSs swimming lesson yesterday. So DH did the school run for me this morning and went into work late (his boss suggested it for days when I feel bleugh Smile ) and I had an extra 3 hours in bed. Just got up and showered and do feel better for it, but going to have a very relaxed day. I think I feel light headed a lot because I have really low blood pressure. Nothing much they can do about it though and it's better than having high blood pressure!

zazou fingers crossed for your tests this morning, hope they go well. S2012 hope the MWs are able to help you/ alleviate any concerns when you ring them.

ras I agree about volunteering. I volunteer for HomeStart, supporting vulnerable or struggling families with young children - it is fantastic work, really rewarding (took a while to set up though - had to get another CRB, even though I hold one already, and had to do a course over 8 weeks to prepare me for the work, so not a quick-win!)

amicusapple · 24/09/2013 10:54

Hi zazou, so sorry you are going through this. I had a big scare at my 12 week scan so can empathise with how you are feeling.

If I can say anything it is to remember that it is nothing until it is something. Try not to google too much and if you do need to research try to stick to factual / medical sites. Personal experiences tend to be unhappy stories online, the good news people often forget to share!

Everything crossed for a positive an answer soon. I've got a feeling it might just be a big baby Smile

Littleen · 24/09/2013 11:03

Wrote a long post and lost it :(

anyway, welcome Ras - I'm in a similar position to you, just finished uni and now I can't even get a shop job because I am 'overqualified' - despite having worked in shops for several years before uni! Spend my days playing pc games (nerd indeed), going for walks, baking bread and looking after my boyfriend and mum who's very ill. Gets pretty dull but I've sort of given up getting a job for now :P

and good luck with all your tests zazou - hope you get a good result from it all in the end!

Vitamins - I take tons. Have been on medication morning and night since I was 14, so for me it's ingrained as a habit anyway, I take folic acid (just until box is empty), calcium, D vitamin, Iron and Omega 3. Still worry it's not enough!

Shropshiremummy2B · 24/09/2013 12:22

How on earth are the March mummy's to be on their NINTH thread already?! We've had a whole month on them! Although I genuinely think the royal baby got people bumping uglies.

It's clearly sooooo common to have a March baby.

And I canny believe that there's a June thread already!!!

littlestgirlguide · 24/09/2013 12:31

Maybe our FB group has slowed our mumsnet chat down?

Hump week for me this week, 20 weeks today and halfway there. Wishing it really was 'hump' week though, that and a bottle or two or red are all I'm really craving at the moment!

marzipanned · 24/09/2013 12:47

Totally agree that health comes first MissK. Can you cheer yourself up with a viewing of the 'I love cats, I love every cat' video? I showed it to DH last night then couldn't get it out of my head all night, including an hour awake at 4am...

zazou I really hope you get a good result from the tests. I also read that article that said amnio has a much lower miscarriage rate than 1% nowadays. My fingers are tightly crossed for you. And that is SO true what amicus says about people only sharing bad news.

I was having a little read of the September thread yesterday, only four more threads to go before it's our turn! Off for my anomaly scan this afternoon, feeling a bit nervous as I'm terrified that the cyclizine will have done something bad to baby (irrational, I know).

SugarMice what sort of things do you do with HomeStart? It's something I'd like to do in the future.

Sassy20 · 24/09/2013 13:17

Good luck with your scan this afternoon Marzipanned. X

misskatamari · 24/09/2013 13:24

Lol marzipanned I might just do that! DH sent me a link ages ago for downloading songs from youtube - I really should get that one so i can listen wherever I am! Good luck with your scan, I'm sure all will be well Smile

SugarMiceInTheRain · 24/09/2013 13:32

marzipanned I help at a group for mums and under 5s, can be doing anything from chatting to mums about their problems to running a messy painting activity with the children to jumping up and down doing singing Grin then on another day I have a family I am placed with who I support 3 hours a week. I love it and am quite sad I'll have to take a break from it when I have this baby (until she goes to preschool anyway) Good luck with your scan this afternoon!

Julietee · 24/09/2013 14:00

Another shout out here for Emily Oster's Expecting Better. It's great.

sunflowered · 24/09/2013 14:06

There's a June thread already?! Shock

On the positive side, someone I remember getting their bfp when I was starting to ttc and finding my way around mn has been posting on the October thread about going into labour this week. Scary to think that if things had worked first time that could have been me, but also reassuring to remember that 5 months isn't so long to wait Smile

Think I'm coming down with a cold in the middle of the work week from hell. Hope to get through the next couple of days before I can let myself go under, but it's going to be an even grottier week than I'd imagined. Hope everyone else who's suffering gets on the mend soon.

marzipanned · 24/09/2013 14:24

Aw thanks all.

SugarMice that sounds brill - definitely something I will look into in the future.

Just caught up on last night's Midwives - the final birth was terrifying! I kept thinking - they wouldn't show a stillbirth on TV, would they? Surely? Please not?
