Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tarlia · 03/09/2013 19:02

We are watching The killing - subtitles are exhausting me though as we don't tend to start until 9.30, by which point I could sleep!

SeriousS fab way to do a third language, but wandering why if you are in the UK? Sorry just being nosey, not rude, as I'm all for language. I also have friends whose 2.6 has two home languages (English and Swedish) and a nursery language Danish (he started at 2 years) - its pretty amazing as my DP's mother tongue is Danish so the little boy uses words of that language to speak to him. My son speaks Danish and English but the boys speak together in English as that's what they've grown up hearing myself and mum speaking.

Tarlia · 03/09/2013 19:02
  • wondering not wandering hehe
PseudoBadger · 03/09/2013 19:06

Tarlia I could never watch The Killing unless I was wide awake! We've got series 3 sitting on sky planner to watch but we've been too worn out for the last few months :)

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 19:21

Have to catch up with series 3 of the killing tarlia and pseudo. Wasn't a fan of the ending of series 2 so I think that maybe putting us off. If you haven't already seen it try mad men!!

mon and flyer my sister s dh is from Ghana. I've never been but she's just been to Accra a few weeks ago. She flew virgin and they got upgraded on the way out :). Not a fan of fufu at all and cannot eat semolina. A childhood aversion. Goat stew done well is nice. I cheat and use lamb. And peanut (groundnut) stew is yum. Had a flatmate at uni that made the best stew. It's mainly from northern Nigeria.

sephy it's nice to have a date for baby s arrival!! Mine is in 4 and half weeks!!! Not ready at all

roofio87 · 03/09/2013 19:27

im half way through season 4 of breaking bad so not quite up to date, but dp is obsessed with it. I have to find something to occupy myself for 40 mins later so he can watch the latest episode!!

Sephy · 03/09/2013 19:34

Definitely agree chickie.

All this food talk is making me really curious about what these african dishes are like - what exactly is fufu?

Flyer747 · 03/09/2013 19:36

Nice to hear your family got upgraded chickieno. It's good to hear positive stories about my employer.

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 19:46

sephy I make a version using semolina which is made by mixing butter water milk and semolina I to a thick paste similar in consistancy to mashed potato. You then pick pieces from it and dip it into the accompanying soup or stew. Lamb chops are great for the stew. You all need to try the peanut stew. It's amazing. I make a simple version from onions chilli tinned tomatoes vegetable stock and peanut butter.

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 19:46

Lack of apostrophes there. Sorry

textbook · 03/09/2013 19:50

Yay Falcon Grin

Baby keeps poking her bum out again today. She is so wriggly compared to dd1, it must be the anterior/posterior placenta difference I guess. I use a kick-counting bracelet on some days, but she's so active I find myself moving the elastic thing all the bloody time! I thought they were meant to sleep sometimes..?!? Does anyone else have a super-active bump?

Mmm... Agree the African recipes sound lovely. Off to google various bits...

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 20:11

Question, where do you ladies think has the best muslins? Need to get some more

HeffalumpTheFlump · 03/09/2013 20:29

Wow this thread moves fast!

Really pleased for you falcon it must be such a relief. :)

Textbook - my baby sticks her bum right out too, sometimes right round in my side. It's very strange.

Thanks for the advice re fainting, I phoned my midwife and was told that I should get myself a drs appointment tomorrow :( weirdly though she said that she thinks it's my blood pressure, but that it may well not be connected to the pregnancy, hence sending me to the gp. Seems a bit strange, i've never had problems like this before.

PseudoBadger · 03/09/2013 20:30

Chickie my best muslins are from John Lewis, they are lovely and thick. I have some from Boots and they are much thinner.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 03/09/2013 20:32

chickieno - I've bought mine from tesco. They are nice and big and lovely and soft. They perhaps aren't as thick as others, but they are a really good price. I think they will do the job nicely :)

roofio87 · 03/09/2013 20:38

chickieno I've got some asda muslins that I think are really nice.
textbook my bump is so wriggly too. I don't get through ten minutes without feeling movement, its very nice though!

skullbabe · 03/09/2013 20:49

Hello ladies

I would just like to delurk for a minute to thank you all - I've been on the threads since the very first one but as you ladies love to chat it has been quite difficult to keep up and catch up and consequently participate in the conversation.

You've all virtually held my hand through this second pregnancy - I was originally due 02/10 but now at 36 weeks have been given a date for an induction for next Tuesday (and of course I'm not ready Wink).

My little bump is small for gestational age and I've been having twice weekly scans and monitoring with the consultant as DS was born 34+4 for unknown reasons and also because I have essential hypertension and fibroids.

You've all been there through the deadly heartburn, the sore hips/pelvis, the moods, the overheating and now the insomnia and drooling lol Grin.

I have used my first week of maternity leave to rest and finally catch up on this thread.

I'm definitely sure this is the thread we'll all have news of our first babies!

Again - thank you for being so chatty and helpful.

skullbabe · 03/09/2013 20:51

though duh! I remembered little Josie was born a little while ago

Natalieand · 03/09/2013 20:53

Interesting jelly if we are using a thread every 10 days my baby should be born on thread 21 lol

I too do not have swollen hands or puffy feet. Although if I have a busy day my feet r agony as if they r swollen but deffo don't look swollen

I'm not dribbly, infact I'm the opposite my mouth is as dry as the Sahara desert at night its horrible

Welcome heffa xx p.s my Muslins are from kiddicare and sainsburys buy I may buy some more if I get a chance I like ones with nice patterns lol

Excellent news falcon so pleased she's head down and all ready for labour!

tarlia and pseudo how r u both feeling today? Hope your bps are behaving themselves

Dd is back at pre school tommorow yiipppppeeeeee lol
Baby has had hiccups for a good ten minutes now... At first it was cute, now its Annoying :-/ I'm so tired but the last few nights I've been weeing 6+ times a night. I always feel much more refreshed when I only need two wee's

Think I've remembered everything I needed to reply too. Sorry if I've missed anyone x

Natalieand · 03/09/2013 20:54

Oh yeh chickie if ds wants a cow how about getting him some plastic animals and farm sheds/play set ? X

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/09/2013 21:01

Hello everyone I actually took notes today as I had no hope remembering 6 pages of chat!
Badger me and DH are hooked in dexter, even though I don't like horror/gruesome things usually.
pinkbuttons eek at being stuck in the lift! If you had gone into labour that's the sort of thing that makes the news!
shire why is your mat leave delayed? Ofsted or just yr head teacher's list was too long?
umlauf love the bookshelf idea, I like having the covers facing forwards. Agree on putting a whole potato in and throwing it away once it has soaked up the salt. Or just add extra everything else to water it down and freeze the rest. Sugar sometimes works too.
Glad willow has turned falcon and warlin and sephy I hope yours turn soon too.
Hello snow oh no you must be the unlucky percentage that get morning sickness throughout, how rubbish!
Welcome heffalump and other lurkers. I hope you get an answer in the fainting and it is something easily fixable.
Eek Caz at the fast labours! I hope you get enough rearming this time, although you are a pro at it by now!
smitten yes the advice is you need WC again even if you have had it. I had a tetanus booster 2 years ago and still had to have it again.

First day back was fine, went on a course by Dylan Williams who is an inspirational educational speaker and easy to listen to, though hard to get back into a routine of weeing and eating when people say I can and sitting on a small hard chair. One of the teachers is in hospital so I will be covering her class when the children come back. Not the easy first few days reading with all the children in the year group I had planned!

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 21:04

It's the midwives!!!

Does anyone have muslins they don't recommend, lol? I have the m&s ones with cute animals and love the pattern on them but have no idea about quality.

Our friend came for tea. She is about 8 weeks now and it was so funny to talk to her ad though DH and I were the experts. Grin I have to say no matter how uncomfortable I am now I would not go back to the first trimester for anything.

Pinkforboys · 03/09/2013 21:05

Wow- at this rate we'll be on the next thread by the weekend!

Just had my first pg yoga session- nice to return after 6 years Grin
Reminded me that o.m.g. this bump is going to have to end in a birth Shock (is it just me that's been ignoring that part?!)

So pleased to hear that the babes have started turning- there's hope for Madam yet as I'm pretty sure she's lying transverse again.

Chickie I remember hearing a radio invention programme once where someone suggested a cross between an elephant and a pet dog. Can you imagine it trotting from the door with your morning newspaper rolled in its trunk?! Would have been perfect for your DC...

Re: WC jab, my SiL was diagnosed with WC last week and was told the vaccination only lasts 8 years, hence the request for us to get it done again. Mine's tomorrow- wish me luck!

textbook · 03/09/2013 21:07

Skull glad you de-lurked Smile Good luck for next Tuesday - we will be waiting to hear your birth announcement!! More October babies!!!

Smitten1981 · 03/09/2013 21:07

Ahh boo, thought I'd get out of the jab, seems not. Thanks for the advice people in the know. I promise I'll stop obsessing now.

Chick, best muslins by far for me were from Sainsbury's, they were £6 for a pack of 6, they're pretty big and the clincher was that I got some with cute monkeys on. They're packed away in my hospital bag ready and waiting.

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 21:10

Hello skull I hope all goes well with your induction. How exciting and scarey. Stay on the thread and keep us all updated.

Muslins are the only things I have never used with any of my babies. I might just have to go and buy some for this wee one.
