Just checking in on the new thread although have clearly missed so much already!!

Great to hear baby is head dow falcon all ready to go now Grin

Welcome to all those who are new and welcome back to some familiar names Smile

Very impressed by all cooking attempts, at 35+3 here and goal for the week is to get this hospital bag packed.
Saying that I just got stuck in a lift at Birmingham new street station and am now having painful tightenings though not regular at the moment. Lift went up then dropped a floor about 5 times, bump and toddler less than impressedSad Now just resting on DHs orders until he gets home. Hope everyone else has had a lovely day.
Exciting at the prospect of babies been born on this thread! Grin Surely it will last till next week for you legally!

cuillereasoupe · 03/09/2013 17:31

Thanks for the ideas Tarlia, I watch a lot of stuff on youtube but I'll have a look at Netflix.

DP has just announced he absolutely can't get out of work the two nights before my due date. I know it's the nature of the job, but I am not impressed.

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 17:31

Congrats, falcon. I'm so glad things have started going your way.

pseudo (?) I've been sleeping with a tissue under my mouth and nose and had the idea this morning that I should use one of the baby's muslins. That's what they're for, right?

umlauf I second what everyone else's a saying in that bilingualism is perfectly natural for young children. I was three when my family moved to Canada and started junior kindergarten. They just put me in with the kids and I was at or near the top of the class in less than a year. If anything my parents' broken English at that stage hindered me. I remember trying to work out in my little head whether I should say birthday or birssday (like my parents). That's not a judgement of your Spanish but just to say put him in with the other kids and he'll not only survive, he'll thrive.

I'm feeling beautiful today. Someone had to fix my top before clinic started because my boobs "would scare the children," I noticed the horrific state of my hairy chin that I was hoping wasn't too bad, and I waxed it int he work bathroom, then I noticed a nose hair sticking out for the first time in my life. Add puffy vag to the list and seriously it's like I'm a glamour model. Hmm

Sparkeleigh · 03/09/2013 17:32

I googled it umlauf and it looks like its supposed to go in whole to broths, so it might not work depending on the pan you're using...

This site has an interesting theory for removing the salt using vodka! Setting fire to the dinner might be going too far though Hmm www.genuineideas.com/ArticlesIndex/potatosponge.html

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 17:32

Well done willow!!

Pseudo why are you wobbling about Caoimhe? Is it the pronunciation being in the UK? It is a lovely name. Dh and I also liked Saoirse for a middle name but will probably go with Orla as if its a girl will have a Nigerian first name so don't want to give two names difficult to pronounce! We can't agree on boys names at all so better be a girl :). Thought maybe Darragh as a middle name but dh also pushing for a family name which I don't want as not done in my culture and not mad on the names :)

Hope you've recovered from fall sparkle

Welcome heffalump and hi again lurkers!

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 17:33

Smitten you'll probably still need the jab. I had one about 8 tears ago for uni and still had a WC jab this time.

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 17:36

Sorry if my previous post sounds like I am showing off. I just wanted to emphasise that kids can do well even if they are thrown into a school in their non-native tongue.

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 17:37

You could chop the potato Umlauf if you are going to just add it to the recipe. It will still help soak up the saltiness. It works quite well if you've added to much chilli too.

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 17:40

Drooling and puffy vagina here too Shock

How glam are we!

There was an article in the guardian recently about bilingual families and how you should speak your own language to baby and they ll be fine. I ll try and find it and link but I am officially crap at that sort of thing Blush

It's ds birthday tomorrow! He'll be three. I have a very strange child, have been asking him if he wants a scooter and he keeps saying NO! Dh asked him what he wanted yesterday and he said a lollipop, an elephant and a cow ???

Shirehobbit · 03/09/2013 17:44

Apparently, when I was three, I wanted a duck (as in a real live one) and a yellow torch with white spots on, Chickie. And I have no recollection as to why.
But my Dad duly tippexed white spots onto a yellow torch, which I still had when I went to uni, 15yrs later.

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 17:46

I'm off out to look for an elephant and a cow :)

I ll tell dh your story shire! I think he can manage to get the lollipop Grin

roofio87 · 03/09/2013 17:52

shire that is so sweet of your dad!!
I asked my nephew yesterday what we should call the baby, he said 'Oswald'!!! my sister has no idea where he's even heard that name!! but then when my mum was expecting me my sister wanted to call me 'toilet window' so I guess kids are just strange haha!!

Flyer747 · 03/09/2013 17:55

Chickieno I read your post as "drooling over a puffy vagina" Shock I must read more carefully!

Do you cook lots of Nigerian Food? I enjoy eating the food, everything served with jollof rice. Lagos was one of my regular routes I used to operate.

Smashing news falcon I bet you are chuffed Smile

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 18:07

Hahahaha flyer!

My jollof rice isn't too bad but my dad makes the best jollof rice with lamb stew! He s coming at the end of October and he's like a mother hen so will cook loads :)

PseudoBadger · 03/09/2013 18:09

Yay for head down Falcon!!
Chickie I don't know I just had a panic this morning about it. I'm not too worried about prounonciation as people will get it eventually Wink

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 18:11

My sister is half Nigerian and my 2 brothers half Ghanaian (My mum is also mother of nations) so my mum cooked a few African dishes when we were growing up. I love peanut soup. Maybe you should post some of your recipes on the fb page for us all chickie

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 18:14

So happy that it looks like you're going to get the birth you wanted falcon.

Sephy · 03/09/2013 18:27

I got booked in today (33 +2) for an ELCS at 39 wks in case the baby hasn't turned from being breech because apparently CS slots go like hot cakes, so need to book early!

Have to say I quite like the idea of having a known delivery date, especially as DH is going to struggle getting time off if I'm 2 weeks late, but CS date ties in v nicely with his half term... So good to hear snowgal's positive experience last time.

chickieno1 · 03/09/2013 18:27

mon I'm crap at recipes Blush. Anytime dh asks me how I made something I can't tell him. I put a pinch of this a dash of that, different spices each time. Most of the time it turns out ok Grin. I learnt to cook from my mum when I was quite young and this is how she cooked so maybe that's why. I think with Nigerian cooking once you have the basics of the dish there are so many variations probably depending on what people have available at the time. There are some good recipes online will post them on FB.

Also meant to say earlier I too am scared of baking. Would love to be able to bake and think ds and dh would love it too :). clapham s domestic goddess daydream was brilliant :)

TheFalconsmistress · 03/09/2013 18:33

Thanks everyone I am so pleased and relieved :)

ooh peanut soup sounds amazing, I have just had a full plate of pasta with turkey and tomato and mascapone sauce I ate it all! easy to see im very pregnant!

Wickedgirl · 03/09/2013 18:39

So pleased for you falcon

pseudo dexter and breaking bad are both fantastic IMO.

I can't believe how fast this thread is moving.......I was here this morning, come back after a busy day and the old thread is done and the new thread is several pages long already!

This will probably be the thread that sees a few babies being born

Flyer747 · 03/09/2013 18:39

Mon I remember seeing goat soup with fufu on the menu everytime I went to Ghana. Like a bunch of kids we used to laugh at the fufu bit Grin I'm sure it's lovely just never appealed. I ate goat curry once and wasn't keen, in fact it knocked me sick. I loved Ghana sadly we have just stopped flying there so I will never go again.

PseudoBadger · 03/09/2013 18:53

Wicked DP and I are watching Breaking Bad most evenings, Dexter is for me during the days :o

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 18:55

It sounds like your cooking's a lot like my mums chickie She can never tell me how something is made.

The trick is not to chew it flyer just dip it in and swallow. I make it with semolina but my mum used to make it with ground rice sometimes and I hated it.
It would piss me off no end when I would smell the chicken stew cooking and get excited them realise she'd made ground rice fufu to go with it.

Warlin · 03/09/2013 19:01

falcon great news...I'm very Envy! snow thanks for your post....it's mainly the fact I won't be able to lift ds at a time when ill want to give him lots of cuddles that worries me about a section. That and the driving issue...I'm not good stuck at home!

Thanks sparkleigh I have used spinning babies though mw said the best thing to do is stay active so I'm keeping up all the dog walking.

Welcome all the new comers and congrats on your pregnancies.

Loving all the name chat!
