Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pinkforboys · 03/09/2013 21:10

Orange- v sensible.

I forgot to say 'hello' to the newbies & lurkers.
Pinkbuttons your lift experience sounds horrendous- hope you all sleep ok with no nightmares.
Nat my DS is back at school tomorrow too and I feel awful about how relieved I am! I'm looking forward to a day of silence, washing old toys and baby clothes and putting together the changing table (at last!) Oh- and catching up with the GBBO whilst DH slaves at work Wink

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/09/2013 21:11

Hope your sil is ok pinkforboys.
My baby has hiccups too. Quite irritating after a while!
I think we will get through threads much quicker now more people are on maternity leave and that the end if in sight.

MotherOfNations · 03/09/2013 21:15

I'm not having the vaccine smitten. My sil who is a nurse and is due any day now hasn't had it either. There have been no cases of wc in Scotland so that's made my decision easier though there is the worry in the back of my mind about how catastrophic catching wc could be for a child with a heart defect.

Wickedgirl · 03/09/2013 21:28

skullbabe I hope everything is ok with your small bump and you deliver a good sized baby

chickien I have the m & s Muslins and they are fab. They are thick and slightly larger than most other muslins so will hopefully be more absorbent too.

nat My mouth is ridiculously dry at night too. My nose keeps bleeding so is always blocked which means I have to breathe through my mouth all night which leads to me snoring and a very dry mouth. I wake up, have some water, get comfy then need the toilet. Get back into bed, fall asleep, wake up with a dry mouth etc

Shirehobbit · 03/09/2013 21:28

My baby is a chronic hiccup-er - seems to have them 5+ times a day. Very irritating after a while!

Orange - the list isn't obscene, but there are also some field trips in the third week that are really struggling for staff. So as long as I'm fit and able, seems sensible to keep earning a while longer...I may change my mind next week!

HeffalumpTheFlump · 03/09/2013 21:34

My baby has the hiccups at least 3 times a day and repeatedly headbutts my cervix with every one. :( not fun!!

HeffalumpTheFlump · 03/09/2013 21:35

Good luck for Tuesday skull!!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/09/2013 21:36

Are you going on the field trips shire? Confused doesn't sound like a great plan... Hopefully you can cover while others go on the trip and do the far away from school/lots of walking and standing stuff. That is what I am doing during the year 6 residential during my last week. I probably would have stopped at 37 weeks otherwise but should be a nice week, usually just a few well behaved girls with anxious parents left behind.

JellyCurls · 03/09/2013 21:38

I haven't had WC vaccine either ladies as no medical professional has mentioned it to me. I did however end up with whooping cough last year so hope that leaves me immune. Nobody I know had it so don't know where I got it from, just the luck of the draw.

Bad BH again tonight think its going to be this way till I deliver, boo

Shirehobbit · 03/09/2013 21:41

I'll probably go with them, tbh Orange. They're Geography trips to Castleton in the Peaks and I know them quite well; there will be a bit of walking, but lots of chances to rest too. I'm still walking several miles a day with the dog anyway, so feel reasonably confident I would be ok.
But we can review next week.

Is there a definite return date for the colleague you're covering for?

Shootingstarsandcomets · 03/09/2013 21:42

warlin your fears are the same as mine re cs, I can't imagine not bring able to pick up ds when he will need some serious reassurance. He screamed blue murder when I picked up a friends newborn the other day. He was quite happy playing on the floor so I thought good time to have a cuddle and he speed crawled over clung to my leg and howled until I picked him up. Not a good sign of things to come.
Also having watched the midwives and seen the section footage- ugh! And also I struggled to feed ds last time because my milk came in so late- we did get there in the end but it was harder than it should have been I'm sure.
I'm basically terrified of c sections!

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/09/2013 21:43

No, she has been signed off for a week but is keen to come back ASAP as it is her first year as an nqt so I don't think it will be much more than the first few days.

MrsHoratioNelson · 03/09/2013 21:44

Is anyone else watching this twat on The Midwifes? We don't want any pain relief Hmm. Glad the midwife checked whether the mother was actually happy with that...

Shirehobbit · 03/09/2013 21:45

That's a tough way to start your NQT year!

roofio87 · 03/09/2013 21:46

shire I spent every summer of my childhood in Castleton with my grand parents!! I love it so much!! im jealous, even if you so have to go for work!!

Shirehobbit · 03/09/2013 21:49

It's a great place, Roofio - last year, we were nearly washed down the hills by torrential rain and gales! Fx for better weather this year Smile

OrangeBlossom2 · 03/09/2013 21:51

I am recording the midwives for later in the week. DH has agree to watch this one with me as the info box thing said this episode was about hospital vs midwife unit. As our hospital doesn't do tours hopefully it will help us to see what isn't is like and the experiences in the two.

MrsHoratioNelson · 03/09/2013 21:52

Orange it's really good for that - the differences are quite apparent. Not sure how much that unit is like others elsewhere, though. It looks pretty luxurious!

Sanjifair · 03/09/2013 21:54

MrsNelson, we thought exactly the same. The midwife clocked onto him straight away though.

I was also amused by the DH with the water birth. He just looked so bored. I couldn't stop giggling at him.

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 22:00

Sanjifar and MrsHN: I think they had a professional interpreter at the end. I hope so. That husband was making me uncomfortable, speaking for his wife like that.

Umlauf · 03/09/2013 22:14

Just popping on quickly to say the potato worked! Thankyou sparkeleigh and motherofnations !!

Sparkeleigh · 03/09/2013 22:18

Lol, I was just coming on to ask umlauf!

Midwives - I've been afraid to watch it, or OBEM in case they freak me out. This episode with a midwife unit sounds good though, should I watch it? Nothing too scary?

Tarlia · 03/09/2013 22:20

Welcome skull and heffa.

I have a date! I'll have baby in just over 2.5 weeks wooo. Hope this pain all vanishes like last time too.

p-buttons you poor thing, sounds really scary. Have things settled down? Is DS ok?

orange with a sick note she isn't allowed to come back before its up due to insurance reasons unfortunately. At least it always used to be that way.

We love cute muslins here, but def worth having some plain ones too for later when weaning starts so they can be bleached if needs be. Carrot is a bugger to get out of anything.

ana it was lovely to hear about your language experience, can't remember the word you used in the following post, but no, not in the slightest! It's also lovely that you remover that confusion for me (sorry)but I harp on about this only speaking mother tongue and people so often raise an eyebrow.

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 22:23

Sparkeleigh this episode still showed the delivery suite and a premature emcs, although it was among the least traumatic episodes I've seen. Sorry if that's a spoiler, I just don't want anyone to watch it and be freaked out.

Natalieand · 03/09/2013 22:28

I cannot believe that arrogant pig on midwives

Then 5 minutes later dh decides to test his luck

Dh starts 'suggestively' stroking my arm
To which I said ' please don't I'm not in the mood for that'
'Be greatfull I'm letting u have pain relief'
To which I then replied- as if I need your permission

Knob! I tell u these men sometimes, but on a serious note even dh commented that he couldn't bare to watch how arrogant that bloke was and that he uncomfortable to watch. He often asks me questions about what's going on which I quite like as it shows he's showing an interest like he asked what delayed cord clamping was and meconium. I guess we just assume they know all these things?

wicked that sounds exactly like my night time routine + enth of digs to dh to try and disturb his snoring. Worst bit is the cat has decided to sleep up against my bedroom door for some reason and makes like an obstacle course getting out my room without my feet being attacked or tripping over the furball.
