Hi all,

Have had an emotional week, loads of ups and downs! It's been nice reading your posts, sorry to hear about the pains, piles, colds and lumps.

Frouby, your painting story made me chuckle Smile

Happy birthday Rose! Thanks

I've found mixing bran flakes in with my cornflakes has helped my digestion in recent weeks. (for those with constipation)

Just had blood test and have midwife appt tomorrow. Hoping bump measuring big enough this time so I don't have to get sent for extra tests. Fingers crossed!

Have a lovely day!

mumoftwoboysS · 23/09/2013 12:43

violet I actually crave branflakes (weird I know) so have it most nights before bed- hardly any constipation so far!

Happy Birthday too rose!

My DH is rubbish at painting too frouby so I know I'll be left to doing the nursery myself (despite telling him I shouldn't really be using gloss!) but then I know he'll do a crap job too and I'm a bit controlling so maybe it's for the best ;-). Have found a pot of gorgeous turquoise/teal paint in the garage but its one of those (larger) sample pots- hoping it'll cover 1 wall as it'd really brighten it up and I don't want to buy a full size tin (on a budget and all that).

Sorry you're feeling a bit rubbish shrubs could it be blood sugar? Now and again mine goes low leaving me feeling weak, dizzy and a bit sick. (Good excuse to chomp on some chocolate!)

MrsShrubs · 23/09/2013 14:17

I think you might be right mum still don't feel amazing but did feel better after a bowl of chicken soup at lunch time. So sleepy though, glad I'm on the early shift today so I'll be out of here at 4.30 and can have a doze!

Sorry you've not had a good week violet

Hi everyone,
Haven't been on here for a while - can't believe how quickly December is approaching!!!

I was wondering whether anyone has been advised by MW or doctor to book in for a flu jab? I got a text this morning from the doctor's surgery saying to either book an appointment or come in for an open clinic on Wednesday.

Does anyone have any opinion or insight on this subject? I will get the vaccine I just have a few apprehensions as a couple of people i know who have had it in previous years have said they have never been so poorly as the year they had the jab.

On an unrelated note have people began purchasing/acquiring the larger items i.e. pram, cots etc?

Good health everyone!

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 15:31

hi kerry we've got most of the big stuff now, cot, pram, car seat etc. just the little things to go. mainly stuff for me, materinty pads..

bottles, steriliser etc for baby left to get.

so far ive gotten everything second hand...

ill be getting the flu jab, i heard that is give you a little bit of a cold to immune you against it. but when ive had it previously (due to asthma) ive always been fine :)

MrsShrubs · 23/09/2013 15:36

We bought practically everything a couple of weeks ago - pram, cot, car seat, moses basket etc. We don't really have the space for it all but while we actually had the money to do it, and there were a lot of deals on we decided to take advantage and get it all done and dusted. Haven't had any info on the flu jab or whooping cough but I have my 28 week appointment on Thursday so I think it will more than likely come up then.

kerryc29 · 23/09/2013 16:28

Glad to hear that I am not the only one who has started getting things - I have the pram and car seat (even though we have very little storage space), the pram we wanted had an offer on it at Mothercare and I managed to get a bargain Maxicosi car seat on ebay for £8 so thought I would be silly to wait. Asides, by the time I finish for maternity leave (early December) I figure the shops will be so busy with Xmas shopping and I will be so not in the mood for going round the shops by that stage!

I need to get all the other stuff i.e. bottles, sterilisers etc. Actually I picked up Boot's baby catalogue the other day which has a very useful checklist detailing everything needed for baby and mother - I am still pretty clueless about what's needed so for me it is really handy.

Thanks Stom91 for the flu jab advice, I will get myself down to the surgery this week. Have you been using a particular website for the second hand stuff?

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 17:11

nope not really, just been on the car boots sites on facebook, or gone to actual car boots. and got the mumas and papas 9 in 1 pram set from a friend... ive gotten all the clothes from the online carboot sites on facebook. people we selling bundles of stuff..

if you havent got any in your area, you could try ebay, or freecycle?
i got a nearly new cot bed from facebook for £40, it was from john lewis so a good make too.. so much better than buying new!!

the only new thing i have to get is a cot matress and the bottles etc, im trying to get the avent starter set from amazon, it £100 but im waiting for it to go to half price. so keeping my eye out lol

im not looking forward to the jabs.. i hate them.. id rather have blood taken lol. ive had so many blood tests im a pro now haha

xx

BohemianRaspberry · 23/09/2013 17:13

I'm using Gumtree as most people around here use it and got the nursery furniture through it - love putting things in drawers now!

Other stuff we have new but we are getting majority second hand if we can. Problem is everyone's on their first/saving stuff for their second around here Envy

I've also found the bran flake clusters - the ones with honey in them - really nice to snack on as well as get things moving. Better for me than a choccie bar but still tastes quite nice.

NomDeClavier · 23/09/2013 17:27

We're reusing a lot from DS but I haven't really go round to buying new stuff yet! Need newborn winter clothes, cosleeper crib, new mattress for the pram, new rain cover, toddler seat to go on the silver cross, buggy board for the city mini.... Really ought to start shopping but for that I need to actually do my invoices for the last I don't know how long!

kerryc29 · 23/09/2013 17:30

Haha, I feel exactly the same about the jab which is slightly concerning considering that it is a walk in the park compared to what we have to go through in labour! I used to hate the thought of blood tests but now like you they don't bother me.

Thanks for all the links to second hand sites/groups. I love a bargain which combined with baby shopping is turning into my ultimate hobby! Obviously there are some stuff I would draw the line at getting second hand/would prefer new out of personal choice but there is some great stuff out there and i guess once you have made a choice that you no longer need things like a pram or cot you may as well sell it.

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 17:45

yeah exactly, it'll just be taking up space... though im not sure i even like my pram... its sooo big! and im short . i could probably fir it it lol..
and the front wheels don't turn, which makes it hurt to turn, though it could be just because i was playing with it on carpet could be a different story on a pavement.. but still its the bigness of it.. there's no way it would fit on a bus lol..
dp is a bit annoyed i don't like it :S ahh well we will see.

abcdemma · 23/09/2013 18:26

We've got most big things now, MIL insisting on getting us a brand new travel system so that's the biggest thing left. Mum got us a nearly new crib on one of them facebook sell/swap things and the rest is a mix of gifts or 2nd hand stuff online. Mostly it's stuff for me now, leaving pumps/bf slings etc till I know I can feed him properly myself but got bottles/steriliser just in case or for when I start expressing.
Don't mind jabs too much so gonna get the flu jab when it's out round here and already had cough one, as long as it doesn't harm baby I'm all for it!

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 18:35

Does the mw do thw whooping cough one at the 28 week app? Or do you go to the Dr?

MildredH · 23/09/2013 18:39

Prob varies stom- i saw mw only last wk and she still told me to book
back in with the nurse for this wk.. Actually don't mind as its an early finish from work and I'm pooped!!

kchapper5 · 23/09/2013 19:21

I'm booked in for my flu jab next Tuesday.

My mum and dad brought an entire travel system for us on Thursday and we got a steriliser from asda for £15 in the sale. Our Moses basket has been passed down through my DPs family but will more than likely need a new mattress in it. No nursery furniture yet until we've painted :)

PistachioTruffle · 23/09/2013 19:28

I'm getting both flu and whooping cough, but I'm going to try and get them both done at the same time if I can - if I can get an appointment that is!

We've got most of the big stuff too - nursery furniture, Moses basket, steriliser. Pram and car seat are ordered and we're just waiting on word they've arrived! I'd still like a swing or bouncy seat of some type, and need a new mattress for the Moses basket as well as some other smaller bits. I've got a stash of nappies and wipes started, and mothercare has a sale on so I got some cute things in bigger sizes.

They had some really soft strappy nighties and pjs in primark today that would be ideal for the hospital bag for labour and bf afterwards, but it felt a bit early to be starting with that business Shock

Chilli81 · 23/09/2013 19:37

I'm also getting my flu jab this Friday after being told by my midwife at 28 week appt last week to just go to gp. I will ask if I can get the whooping cough one while I'm there. heard your arm goes a bit numb so best to get it on the side you don't sleep on. Sad

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 19:44

I got my moses basket mattress from eBay. Its a quilted mattress and is really nice.. Was £8 I think.. It was a business that sold loads of baby bits
May be worth checking out?

PistachioTruffle · 23/09/2013 20:46

I got my Moses basket on ebay too come to think if it, I just searched for Moses basket and changed the search order to nearest first - I found one a couple of miles away for £10. It's immaculate and complete with the stand, should have been £100 new Shock I'll get a new mattress for about anther £10 from mothercare.

MollySJ · 23/09/2013 20:48

Stom are you sure your wheels don't swivel? Most have a 'lock' on them that you can click on or off depending on what you need. Might be worth checking out the manual online to check? Sounds odd for a newish model to not have this feature!

Roselau · 23/09/2013 21:31

thanks for bday wishes mum and violet

Stom91 · 23/09/2013 22:10

molly I have tried to look. I do have the manual somewhere.. But I can see anything that would make them. Move. Its annoying! I'll have a search for it tomorrow :)

WhisperMen · 24/09/2013 10:36

PIL have come up today with all of our baby stuff. The flat has gone from being a baby free zone to suddenly filled with baby things! I am a hormonal mess looking at all the baby clothes. We were meant to be going down to their house for the week as DP has some time off work, but my cold/flu has got worse so I've been ordered to stay in bed. I am bored but too ill to do anything productive. It's hard enough just trying to find a position to be in where I can breathe!

Hope you lot are all alright :)

mumoftwoboysS · 24/09/2013 11:47

Just a quick mention- there's a baby event at Aldi right now in case you didn't know- selling baby gym, some toys, sterilisers, baby grows, muslins, wipes etc! I don't really need anything but grabbed some bargain wipes to stock up!
