Our shiny new thread... Pile in!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Stom91 · 04/09/2013 21:55

Yeah at my booking in appointment I gave a urine sample went i went for my 16 week check they had lost it so had to do another... Then I had a blood test couple weeks ago as was feeling unwell and they lost that so had to have another,! Useless! Lol

Glad I don't have to have one I hate injections!!

Mummyboylan · 04/09/2013 21:55

They've never checked my partners blood but my cousins r both O neg and so were they're children who were tested straight after birth. They've also assured me there is nothing to worry about x

Deya · 04/09/2013 21:57

Oh, yes - do not worry Stom - injections are only needed where mummy has negative blood group ( I have B - ).

Stom91 · 04/09/2013 21:59

Ahh I see all good then lol... I can have blood taken doesny phase me but hate injections lol

Mummyboylan · 04/09/2013 22:05

I gave blood a few times so giving s wee bit more isnt bad but apparently this is a stingy one in the bum :0
Bottom half needs to be comfy I'm carrying low. I work in a pub too so need to be covered up x the less the blokes have to slaver over the better x

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 04/09/2013 22:09

anti D injection is in my bum?! Sad I don't want it now

Mummyboylan · 04/09/2013 22:17

That's wot I've been told by others x but they might do it different depending on where u go x

MildredH · 04/09/2013 22:48

My anti-D is next weds.. I'll let you know!

abcdemma · 04/09/2013 22:49

Bloods are done at 28w, my next appointment will be when I'm 29w and new MW (very nice lady) said she needs to do more then, along with signing up to antenatal classes and a few other bits.
Lots of catching up to do but I'm like nearly everyone else and suffering with lower back pain :( It runs from where my muffin-tops would start (ok... do start) and along my left butt cheek, quite painful at times. I look like a right idiot walking round work like I've just got off a horse lol.
MrsC you need a risk assessment doing every month from the minute you tell your boss about your pregnancy. He's breaking the law by not doing one with you.
itsliz I was the same as you with benefits, told I hadn't contributed enough to claim JSA. You can try income support but when I enquired I was told you had to be 29w pg and/or a single parent or some rubbish, but it's worth finding out for yourself. You should be able to claim Mat Allowance soon though? Get your DP to claim Working Tax Credit too and see if you qualify for this Maternity Grant from the government.
Essay over lol, just sat watching tummy bouncing cause we've just had curry and bambino has woken up Grin

itsliz · 05/09/2013 07:11

Lady It's because I live with DP so they take his income into account, meaning I'm not eligible for income based JSA. I am eligible for contributions based JSA but although I was working full time for the last year, they calculate your allowance from whatever NI you paid during tax year April 2010 - April 2012 (which is zilch as I was a student then)
They've sent my application off so I'll find out if it's a definite yes or no in about 2 weeks, but the woman I spoke to yesterday said that its unlikely I'll get any JSA Sad

And abcd that sounds about right, the whole system seems to be a load of rubbish and full of loopholes! I don't understand how anyone is able to claim benefits like this...!
I'll definitely look into the Maternity Allowance and Grant today though and ask DP to see about Working Tax Credits... I was just too fed up bother with trying to sort anything else out yesterday!

Hope everyone else is feeling a bit better today Smile

hetsto · 05/09/2013 10:11

Crikey, things move quickly around here! Here comes another long thread from me, trying to catch up - sorry if I miss anyone.

We had another scan and check-up yesterday and our girls are doing really well! So happy and relieved! :) Apparently the twins are not quite as big as they?d like right now, and growth apparently tends to slow down towards the end of a twin pregnancy, as they run out of room, so they want me to pack the lbs on now while I can. That led me onto discussing my recent sickness with them, as although I?m not feeling too bad generally, that can?t be helping with weight gain. They?ve given me some anti-sickness pills to take and recommended lots of v small meals as they think it?s probably just down to the pressure on my stomach, so fingers crossed that clears up soon!

We also discussed the birth and they?re happy to let me try for a natural birth provided things continue to go well and the babies both stay head down. Hopefully it?s a way off yet, but I was reassured to hear that they?re not going to immediately recommend a c-section.

Hope your scan goes well today Stom91! On the night time snacks, I?m going for cereal at the moment ? quick and easy and fills a hole.

Welcome Deya! You?re due the day after my 40 week dd, although I?ll probably end up in the November club in reality? Please don?t make me leave this one though guys!

On the anti-D injection, I?ll be having that one too (just load me up, I say!?!) as I?m O rhesus negative. As long as you?re ok with needles I think it?s ok and a fairly straightforward thing for a potentially serious problem.

Is there a new series of OBEM on now/soon, are you guys watching the old ones? I?m not sure whether to tune in or not really, they usually do an episode on multiple births that?s very dramatic and scary? might give that a miss!

Hope you?re doing well DaleyBump, and your baby is wriggling around like a champ!

Hope you?re ok Crying, it all sounds very stressful, but I?m sure it will work itself out ? the student market is so strong that they really shouldn?t struggle to find someone to fill the room.

Sorry to hear about the money woes itsliz, they really don?t make the system easy to navigate and sort through, do they?

Welcome Mummyboylan!

Oh dear, MildredH, I guess haemorrhoids are another perk of pregnancy eh?!

violetbean · 05/09/2013 10:52

Watched The Midwives on catch-up yesterday and didn't stop crying through the whole thing! It's a bit different to OBEM but I quite liked it and especially that there are no adverts!

Sorry to hear about the JSA issues, I'm hoping to get maternity allowance from end of September so that will be a big help.

DH has to fill in his paternity leave form by tomorrow but we can't decide when to start it from as there's the interruption of Christmas and he still had some leave left to use up this year. Any of you in a similar situation?

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 05/09/2013 11:42

Today is a shit day. My favourite dress looks shit on me now. I am 25 weeks today. I've uploaded a pic of my 25 week bump. Today is the first day I have sat crying because I have nothing to wear and hate myself when I look in the mirror. DP keeps telling me I look beautiful but he is wrong. I am a whale, a whale that has a fondness for mcdonalds big macs and eats them constantly. I call bullshit on the 'glow'. Sorry guys I am just having a moment here. Feel free to tell me I look fine and that i'm being stupid. I'm growing a person, so of course my belly is growing!

I'm going to go and cry about my ruined life and the fact I can never go outside again because nothing fits me

Carry on with your happy day guys Grin

violetbean · 05/09/2013 11:47

Crying, you don't look horrible at all, your bump looks lovely. I understand what you mean about the dress, I tried one of mine on the other day and it looked awful. Don't worry about the Big Macs, just focus on how nice it'll be to have baby in your arms in December.

Roselau · 05/09/2013 12:32

Ok well that?s a LOT to catch up on! Welcome to those of you that have recently joined us.
crying and itsliz I?m really sorry to hear about the money issues. It must be so hard to deal with this on top of being pregnant. I really hope that everything gets figured out. It angers me when I read things like this, because I?m happy to pay high taxes if I know it goes to people who need it. But when I read this, I realize that it doesn?t necessarily. It makes you wonder what the hell they do with your money when they can?t help pregnant women have somewhat of a stress-free pregnancy. Glad frouby is able to help with the lease advice ? the girl seems to know what she?s talking about :)
crying sometimes I just go through mini-crisis as well, and then the next day I wonder what the hell I was so depressed about. Take one day at the time. If today is shite, just acknowledge it, bitch and moan (it makes me feel better) and tomorrow will be better. But you do look beautiful. You look properly pregnant (I.e.: not like you?re eaten too many bigmacs :) ).
hetsto I know right, off to LA in less than 5 weeks! but soon left behind sans husband ? he leaves next Wednesday. I actually don?t have family in the UK, nor in the US ? my whole family is split between Canada and Brussels. I could very easily flip the shit right now but I?m weirdly very zen about it all. When we get to the US, we?re taken care of by hubby?s new company (corporate housing, support with the move and with medical system, etc), plus I still get full pay top up from my work for the first 16 weeks of mat leave and all my benefits from work in the UK remain active, so all this makes it much easier than if we were leaving in uncertain conditions. I also have friends visiting every weekend until I leave, and my mom is visiting for the last week. I have a pretty tense relationship with her, so that will be very interesting, with the hormones and all. Will need to take my own advice and take it one day at the time? Sleeping in my flat alone is the worst, so I?m minimizing that? only 10 nights I?ll be by myself I think.

Glad they gave you sick pills hesto, and so happy your girlies are doing well!

mummyboy good luck with the wedding planning! How exciting !!

Omg mildred hemeroids? I?ve never had those? that sounds awful. Is there something you can take?

Ok so I watched 16 and pregnant last night (you know, to make sure my IQ does not rise too much in pregnancy haha), and the girl had the worst stretch marks. My DH saw that and was like ?eeeeeh will that be you? that?s horrible!?, but then quickly realized what he said and told me he?d think I?m beautiful even if that happens to me. But I just started freaking out. Right now I have a proper clean bump. I moisturize it every morning with my cowshed shea butter but SO worried to get those horrible stretch marks!! When do those usually happen to those of you that have gotten them in the past. Am I safe if I don?t have anything and I?m almost 25 weeks?

PS ? cowshed girls, I?m going for a facial next weekend to the cowshed at shoreditch house with my girlfriends because they didn?t have availabilities in the other ones. Have you been? I?ve not been to that location.

Final comment ? TURN THE HEAT OFF!! why has London decided that this year is the year where it should be abnormally hot in December? I keep getting dizzy at work so they brought me a fan. And I forget who it was, but YES your work should to a pregnancy assessment as soon as you tell them you?re preggers.

Roselau · 05/09/2013 12:34

obviously i mean hot in september, not december... ha!

froubylou · 05/09/2013 13:04

Afternoon all.

Crying have a duvet day. You will feel different tomorrow I bet.

Hope the tenancy issues get sorted. Any problems let me know and I'll try and help.

Rose not much you can do about stretch marks I don't think love. Has your mum got them? Think they are hereditary.

Baby seb had me worried yesterday the little bugger. Got to 5pm and realised I hadn't felt him move since early morning. Did all they recommend and after an hour on my left side still hadn't felt anything. Sat up to have some more cold water and got what I first thought was a bh. Put my hand on my tummy and could feel him turning around lol. He then proceeded to disco dance all night. He is obviously a bit of a jocker and had been sat all day where I couldn't feel him.

DP is going to be useless when I am in labour though. All I wanted to do was stay still and quiet to concentrate and he drove me bonkers lol. Kept chatting and wanting to stroke my head and tummy. Wonder if when it's time I can sneak him some gas and air to shut him up lol.

Got my gaviscon on prescription by ringing surgrty and leaving a message for mw that I needed some but it has easdd off now. Think he was squashing something and has moved.

Been fettling DD bedroom all morning and just stopped for a sandwich and lost all motivation now. Think a coffee is in order!

PistachioTruffle · 05/09/2013 13:09

Rose, unfortunately as I understand it the likelihood of developing stretch marks is to do with the natural elasticity of your skin , so they could appear suddenly at any point - my friend had none until 39 weeks, then suddenly got a few under her bump (although it stayed at a few, and very subtle ones at that, the lucky thing). I'm still slathering the palmers on though, as my theory is that it can't hurt to try Grin

Crying, your bump is lovely and you look perfectly pregnant, I don't see any evidence of Big Macs at all! Have you seen the movie version of what to expect when you're expecting? Your post reminded me of one the characters in it, it was funny at the time but now I know exactly how she felt!

Hetso, glad the babies are doing well! Keep growing little twins!

Sorry to this whom I'm torturing with my username Grin perhaps I should change it to VeggiesAndSalad instead?!

MrsShrubs · 05/09/2013 13:23

rose I'm quite prone to stretch marks as my teenage growth spurt taught me well and have a handful from pregnancy at the moment even with moisturising but I have to say as far as stretchmarks go they're not that bad (at the moment) compared to some peoples I've seen. I think all you can do is keep drinking water and moisturise to try and keep skin as supple as possible.

crying I have days when all I feel frumpy and gigantic and others when I feel really good about how I look, I'm with frouby and rose there are good days & bad days, and with the hormones flying round everywhere it's no wonder!

SO excited for Sunday, it's our 1 year wedding anniversary so we're going back to our wedding venue which is a hotel & spa and have booked in for a pregnancy massage, I'm literally counting down the hours until it happens! Thing is I only have bikini's as I went on holiday in early May when I wasn't really showing so will wear one in the pool at the spa, you don't think other people will mind bump hanging out in my bikini as I really don't want to pay for something new just for a couple of hours wear?

Chilli81 · 05/09/2013 13:25

Rose I totally agree about the heat. I am baking. I used to love hot weather and now it just makes me sweaty and tired. Quite looking forward to cooler autumn days.

Is anybody else worried about having a newborn in December? I think probably December itself will be fine because of Xmas etc but then worried about January/Feb especially if it snows and managing with a newborn and toddler. My first DS was born in June so wasn't an issue. Maybe it's just a good excuse to buy one of those all in one fluffy bear suits with the ears for the little one. Any outfits with ears get my vote!

Hope everyone is ok

Hetsto good news about your girls.

*Crying - I cant see your photo on this computer but I'm sure you look great. I feel your pain re junk food. I had cold leftover pizza and a portion of chips for lunch. Healthy!

abcdemma · 05/09/2013 13:56

Chilli I was thinking about snow etc and getting around with a pram. Plenty of people do it so I'm sure it's manageable but awkwardly. Definitely getting the fluffiest snowsuit I can find for him when we have to go walking about :) MIL wants to buy the travel system for us and I'm itching to go and try some out but she's saying there's plenty of time... sigh...
Hormones flying all over the place today as OH's Grandad passed away during the night so trying not to become a blubbering wreck in front of him. Just dropped him off at his Grandma's but she's in a bad way (so didn't think it was right for me to be there), so am sat at home devouring the chocolate cupboard... I'm with everyone else feeling guilty about the last of nutritious food I'm supplying bambino with Blush

abcdemma · 05/09/2013 13:59

Oops posted too early... meant to say glad the baby worries have been with the twins and lack of movement etc, and like hesto said students always need a place to stay so there should be no problem filling your place crying :)

abcdemma · 05/09/2013 14:00

been sorted I meant, ffs lol

hetsto · 05/09/2013 14:20

Thanks all for the good wishes!

Oh dear Crying! I?m with the others ? a) you look great, and really don?t need to worry! b) everyone has ups and downs and I think with a bit of rest and a new day you?ll feel much better about things.

Good for you for being so calm Roselau, it probably means you?ve got your head ?round it and are pretty sorted for the move! I?m sure it will be great and it must be quite reassuring to know that your DP?s company will sort lots of the admin out for you as well. Glad to hear you?ve got lots of company planned between now and then too. I?d love to move abroad one day! I haven?t been to the Shoreditch Cowshed I?m afraid, but let me know how it is.

I?ve just been looking into plans to visit some friends in New Zealand next year and discovered that BA won?t let 1 adult travel with 2 infants! This wouldn?t usually matter but my DP won?t be able to join us this time as he?ll be really busy with work at that point. I?m not sure how we?ll get ?round this, but I?m learning to readjust my expectations to having two babies! Any ideas from well-travelled women on here?

No idea about stretchmarks I?m afraid ? I?ve managed to avoid them so far and am using copious amounts of shea butter on my bod, but I reckon they?re going to be pretty much inevitable for me, by the end I?m afraid.

Sounds like you?ve got a little menace there froubylou! Glad to hear he?s moving lots again now though.

Congratulations on your anniversary MrsShrubs, sounds like you?ve got a lovely celebration planned! I wouldn?t worry at all about baring your bump in a bikini either, I?m sure you?ll look great! We went to Sicily back in June and I wore my bikini then, I was much smaller than I am now but still had a bit of a bump and no one seemed to mind.

Chilli81, I love the little snowsuits with ears! I?m quite looking forward to wrapping them up all snuggly to be honest and I?d have thought we?d be fine as long as they?re kept warm when going out and the heating is on indoors. I guess getting out and about could be more of an issue ? maybe worth thinking about in terms of buggy choice?

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 05/09/2013 14:49

Thanks guys. I just feel like a person who has been inflated. I'm sure tomorrow i'll be okay Smile

We have a couple of the snowsuits with ears. One of them is a me to you bear one that we got given for free by a lady at the car boot because she was excited about it being christmas baby Grin BabyCrying will look just like a little teddy bear in it. Cant wait to have snuggles with it Grin

MrsShrubs Happy Anniversary, hope you have a lovely time. Don't worry about wearing a bikini, no one will care and if they do just sit on them Grin
