Morning all. Crikey, what a lot of messages since bed time. Mostly chip or pie related, so I'm glad I missed them as I think I would have started wanting them. Our village has no chippy, and I don't think I would have been arsed to get in the car.

I am originally a Yorkshire lass, and whilst chips and gravy and copious mushy peas with vinegar are definitely 'proper', I have never heard of Hollands pies. So must be Lancs. I'm Midlands now and have been for Shock 10 years. Gosh, that probably makes me a Midlander, not a Northerner. Anyway, it's all Pukka pies round here.

Pram I had those slippers last winter in brown. Loved them but they got so worn out and smelly they got binned. Must get some new ones. They're great with a baby as they're hands free to get them on and off.

IceNoSlice · 01/09/2013 07:16

Mummypig well done DD! And nice to have told the kids. I don't think we need to tell DS really. At just turned one, not sure he'll understand (he'll be 18 months when his brother or sister arrives)

MummyPig24 · 01/09/2013 07:26

I can't remember when we told ds, he was 18 months when I fell pregnant with dd so was just over 2 when she was born. It's easier when they are little because they don't ask so many questions. Now ds is 5 he listens to everything and asks a lot of questions so we felt as though seeing as we will all be talking about it we should tell them.

What is a Hollands pie? My favourite is chicken and leek with mash, peas and gravy. The butchers in our village makes amazing pies, expensive treat though!

Slippersandacuppa · 01/09/2013 07:41

Ice I'm a midlander too! Not born a bred, just recently but I like it!

Glad I missed all the pie chat too. Had a very undatisfying meal (after gloating about curry) - soggy pizza and salad. Also resulted in strange dreams about messing up the kids packed lunches on day one.

Loving hearing about your slippers though. As you can tell, I too am a big fan. I take mine with me whenever we stay away Grin 'tis a little bit of coziness.

Slippersandacuppa · 01/09/2013 07:42

Can't even be bothered to correct that. Happy September all!

FrankelInFoal · 01/09/2013 07:53

Glad I missed the chips/pie talk last night, I'd have been drooling. Sadly we don't have a chippy in our village (no idea why!) the closest one is 7 miles away Shock

Nausea is definitely abating, though seems at its worst in the evenings now. Tiredness is still a killer though, I don't think I've been up later than 9.30 for two weeks!

commsgirl · 01/09/2013 09:05

We've decided we're going to move before the baby gets here. Very excited as I hate where we are now. Grin

NoMaybeAboutIt · 01/09/2013 09:11

Comms we too are hoping to move! We need more space!

I need new slippers. I love white company ones.

It's all pukka pies down in Essex too. I make a really nice chicken and leek pie. Not had one for ages!

Glad to hear your nausea is starting to get better Frankel. Long may it continue Smile

Well done Mummy with your DD! So pleased they're excited!

Rockchick1984 · 01/09/2013 10:00

I'm in Cheshire and all the chippies here do Holland's Pies, i thought it was just a standard thing everywhere!

Apologies for being so quiet last night, me and DH had 'date night' - basically don't let DS have a nap so he settles really early for bed, then take-away, film, sweeties, chocolate, and an early night Wink We realised about 6 months after having DS that we weren't spending any time as a couple, but struggled to get people to babysit for a full night - my parents are happy to do a few hours but sort of defeats the point if we are clock watching! So we now have a regular date night at home, then just worry about babysitters if we are going out for a specific reason - usually if there's a gig that we can't miss!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 01/09/2013 10:13

Sounds perfect Rock! What did you watch?

Pramalamadingdong I forgot to say, that books sounds amazing. Howard times have you read it?!

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2013 10:14

Hmm, I think I need to make a pie this evening. I have frozen pastry in the freezer and every kind of meat under the sun.

Feeling a bit sick this morning. DP is going abroad in the morning to visit his family for two weeks and I miss him already and he hasn't even gone yet. I know it's gonna be a looong two weeks without him SadSadSad

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2013 10:15

I also like the sound of that book. I'm sure I've heard of it before.

commsgirl · 01/09/2013 10:40

Rock that sounds like a perfect idea :)

RaspberrysAndIcecream · 01/09/2013 11:06

Morning ladies - chips are awesome. Fact!! With salt and vinegar - none of this gravy or cheese malarkey. (Southerner here!Grin )

On Wednesday we went past McDonald's and I had to have one! It was amazing and I must admit I've been craving chips ever since!

Also loving kebab shop chips in pitta with some lettuce and garlic sauce on - omg it's good Blush

Also I'll now admit to coco pops and Nutella on toast for breakfast most days.

Crap - I just read that back and I think about food more than I realise!! Now I know why the midwife said just eat what u want until u don't feel sick anymore, then worry about healthy eating. (I used to be super skinny, think size 0, not because I was ill, but because I had such a high metabolism, and worked stupid long hours on my feet all day)
I think she was worried I'd lose weight.

And I really miss a cup of tea Brew Sad but I don't want one at all. If dh has one ill nick his mug and smell it but if I drink it I'm like - where the hell did the nice tea go? It's rank!!

Hope everyone has a good day, with not a lot of puking and lovely sunshine Smile

RaspberrysAndIcecream · 01/09/2013 11:08

And who's dc wanted to call the baby batman?

I told dh this and he's now referring to my stomach as batman - he's thinks this is a great name!! Grin Hmm Grin

MummyPig24 · 01/09/2013 11:47

Ds wants to call the baby "rock baby"!

Rockchick1984 · 01/09/2013 12:08

Surely a rock baby is a pebble??? :)

PiratesMam · 01/09/2013 13:23

Grin Pebbles, like in The Flintstones.

PramQueen1971 · 01/09/2013 13:29

Pages and pages of pie talk. We are officially chavs. I like it.

Bionic, mumsnetters who deny the deliciousness of Greggs are utter middle-class twats and probably are the very same arseholes who deny reading the Daily Mail yet read it online every day to gawp at Kim Kardshian's ass and Kate Middleton's new Reiss frock. Fucking middle-classes. Grr.

PramQueen1971 · 01/09/2013 13:49

Ice, a big 'no' to stinky slippers, but , I must confess to having perfectly beautiful-smelling trotters at all times. 'Tis weird, seeing as I'm such a slattern.

Jolls, I really do get very nettled when I see mumsnetters declaring certain foods as taboo or chavvy (and Greggs has become the number one institution to be mocked). I do not believe as many women drink gin as they purport on these boards, nor do I believe every fucker shops at Waitrose or gets an Ocado delivery. It fucks me off big time but that is because I am working-class through-and-through. Everything Greggs sells is divine and that is all there is to it. And do not get me started on those threads that demonise sweets and fizzy pop at children's parties! Angry

The Daily Mail: what's wrong with it? Nothing, that's what. Nice double spreads of cute ducks and shit; Liz Jones - my fucking hero; nice TV listings; appropriate lambasting of the Mick Philpotts of this world. So it shouts at us, so what?. Better than the fucking Guardianistas whose liberal bullshit has ruined this country.

I feel so much better for tub-thumping Smile

PramQueen1971 · 01/09/2013 13:57

Marbles, I've read that book only once and so started to re-read it t'other day. However, my new Will Self book has since arrived, Great Apes so am getting stuck into that. Shantaram is just astonishing; I never knew one person could cram so much into one life or suffer so acutely. Brilliant read.

Th'usband has just rung me from the neighbouring village to say the shop that sells traffic light lollies has sold out. I am almost in tears. Last night was torturous without them and I felt so ill trying to eat through the nausea.

PramQueen1971 · 01/09/2013 13:59

Sorry for cluster posting, I only woke up at 1pm Hmm

rescoonetwothree · 01/09/2013 14:04

Omg prammy don't let me start.

Due to you all talking about chips n cheese n gravy last night I am currently eating cheesy chips covered in gravy mmmmm...

PramQueen1971 · 01/09/2013 14:50

Crumbs. I think I ought to say I don't hate the middle classes, just the class-conscious ones.
