Grin Hot!!

I think Grey has had success with a Doppler?

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 14:08

HotCross - muslins are pretty much glorified puke wipes lol. And everything else wipes for that matter...

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 14:10

Hotcross, I've been using a Doppler for a week or so. Found the heartbeat every time. I'm 15+1.

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 14:12

And Gawjus - I have the full house of dads. Step dad knows ad he's really supportive. Bio dad doesn't yet know but only because we're not close. Adopto dad will never come within a mile of my baby if I have anything to do with it. The man is a sick wanker and due to his past history, I have no intention of ever telling him he has a grandchild.

If your dad is a bit unstable, it's your choice if he's in your baby's life.

HotCrossPun · 03/09/2013 14:12

Ohhhh really Lyra! Where did you get it from?

I was just looking at a cheapo one from Argos, maybe it's not as sensitive and that's why you can't use it till later.

HotCrossPun · 03/09/2013 14:14

I'm making sausage & mash with onion and cider gravy for dinner tonight, so I've got a bottle of Magners in the fridge.

The thought of it is actually making my mouth water! DP doesn't drink so I'm going to have to pour the excess down the sink.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 14:15

Joll, that's a lot of dads!

Hotcross, mine is borrowed. It's an Angelsounds Jumper. I googled and you should be able to get one for about £20. I was surprised at how quickly I found the heartbeat as it doesn't look particularly sophisticated. I find it's helped DP feel a but more involved being able to hear the hb.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 14:20

On muslins, they catch and mop up an awful lot of baby leakage.

Hotcross, drink the extra Magners. A glass of cider will do your baby no harm.

Sarahb8990 · 03/09/2013 14:22

I got a clear heartbeat on my Doppler at 9 weeks. It's a vcomin one like what the midwifed use.

Rockchick1984 · 03/09/2013 14:26

Hot trust me, with newborn exploding nappies (often known as a Poonami) there will already be shit in your washing machine Grin

Loads of local councils offer schemes to encourage reusable nappies - think I got £100 worth of nappies for £30 when I had DS.

Gaw please don't put yourself in that situation. Tell him over the phone, or take someone with you (not your boyfriend, maybe one of his parents if you don't have any relatives you would ask?) I was terrified telling my dad when I found out I was having DS, but there's no way I was physically afraid - just thought I'd be a disappointment. My dad utterly surprised me and was overjoyed at the news!

HotCrossPun · 03/09/2013 14:29

Lyra I have just ordered an Angelsounds one! I'm going to have to try hard not go get obsessed with checking the heartbeat every hour Grin

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 14:29

Lyra, a girl has to collect something Wink

rescoonetwothree · 03/09/2013 14:35

hot i got a sonoline b (in pink obviously) from amazon, think it was about £40 - you can get them cheaper though as lyra says and i actually think the angel sounds are better from what I've found online - i just got over excited because i wanted to buy something baby!

its only started working this past week, 3 out of the 4 times I've tried i've got the heartbeat - but sometimes it doesnt pick up the bpm/actual heartbeat on the monitor but i can hear it in the background!

Rock, true. The number of sleep suits that got stained up the back will yellow poo!

Hotcross, I've surprised myself by not checking too regularly. About once a day on average. It once took ages to find the hb but I didn't panic. Just assumed baby was in an awkward position. It was lovely last week when I was having bleeding and cramps to be able to listen in and hear that everything sounded normal.

I've been such a pig this lunchtime. Cheese and marmite toastie, two sausages and some of the pasta I made for the boys, and an entire honeydew melon Blush

rescoonetwothree · 03/09/2013 14:38

i mean it's worked 3 out of the 4 times I've tried since finding it the first time, id been trying it for weeks before that!

Lyra I had a lazy food day so far - supernoodles for me and DS Blush although in my defence I threw a handful of frozen peas in while cooking them so at least there was a vitamin or 2 in there Grin

IceNoSlice · 03/09/2013 14:40

Oh Gawj, how horrible. I hope you find a way to tell him without putting yourself in danger. Or don't tell him. But I have no advice as never had any kind of situation like that.

On muslins. I agree they are very handy. I used white ones for the head end and coloured ones for t'other end. I was expecting just to use cotton wool and water (later wipes) for nappy changes. But my MW suggested I needed to dry his bum properly to avoid nappy rash. Dry cotton wool just leaves bits. My friend used kitchen roll sheets. But I found muslins were ideal.

PramQueen1971 · 03/09/2013 14:48

Jolls, my dad used to be a sick wanker. He was an occasional flasher (not to kids), a sex addict and made my mother's life a living hell with his deviant antics. After a lifetime of antidepressants and being in-and-out of nuthouses and a few suicide attempts he is all better now. It is a sweet irony that he got prostate cancer a couple of years ago and is now completely and inexorably impotent. We all find this such karmic retribution for his rampant and ruinous past behaviour Grin

PramQueen1971 · 03/09/2013 14:49

What did past generations use instead of muslins, pliz? They sound like an unnecessary waste of money. What's up with baby wipes?

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 14:53

Sex addict dads who made our mother's lives hell? Sounds like you and I have a lot in common Pram. Adopto dad is unfortunately a complete wrong un and caused many years of torment for my family as he seemed to shag anything that stayed still long enough, regardless of his chances of being caught. I'm certainly well shot of him.

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 14:54

Wipes would work out loads more expensive in the long run wouldn't they?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 14:59

Wipes just don't do the same job, Pram. Muslins are really cheap and you can put them over your shoulder to catch baby sick, put them on the sofa before untying baby down to catch sick/dribble, tuck them under their chin at feed times to catch milk leakage, so many uses. It's only a few quid for a pack of several.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 14:59

Untying? Grin Putting

Jolleigh · 03/09/2013 15:00

Lyra - Untying baby!?!? What caused you to tie the baby up? Wink

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2013 15:02

Lol
