Shock is the only thing I can say to that lol

I didn't think there was anyone left in the country that wouldn't have been in matalan lol

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 18:32

Clapham and Caz, I admire both you and your DPs for managing to maintain such good relations with your exes.

When I first met DP he was still in close contact with his very Ex and, to my shame, it was something I really struggled with. On paper they were much better suited than DP and I (shared hobby/passion, both workaholics, both very outdoorsy, both unemotional types) and it left me hugely insecure. I think I'd have felt differently had it been a mutual decision to split or DP had broken off things with her, but it was clear that she had dumped him.

I suppose I found it harder to understand as when my Ex broke things off with me I never spoke to him again apart from one drunken ill-advised phone call

Pinkforboys · 22/08/2013 18:33

Dare I say it...me too. There isn't a Matalan near me in norf london to my knowledge...

PseudoBadger · 22/08/2013 18:39

Thanks Shire I've got my GTT in the morning so I might pop into the maternity day unit afterwards to get checked out :)

Can I just say that I watched The Midwives today and Shock at the c section footage! I can't believe I'm voluntarily doing that again....

Too much to catch up on! Forgive me if I don't remember all the names/ updates.

It's really interesting to see the variation in rental prices. We're renting a 2 bed flat, no garden in Edinburgh for £975 pcm.

The breastfeeding counsellor at our NCT class said there was no need to avoid anything in your diet - unless your baby ends up being lactose intolerant, and then on dr advice. Varied tasting milk is a good thing!

No idea what we'll do for Christmas. Both sets of parents live far away. We had my folks to visit last year which was lovely, but probably means we have to FIL and partner this year. They are hard work as house guests even when we don't have a baby and I'm dreading it. The tree is very much DH's domain. I'm enthusiastic but rubbish at decorating it, he is very good at it so I tend to stand back and keep the sherry flowing.

caz congrats on DS's results!

flyer, hope you got something for breakfast. I now really want a bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes and capers, yum!

pseudo I know what you mean about the anxiety. I'm never sure enough about movements. Blasted anterior placenta! My blood pressure was a bit raised yesterday but they're not concerned yet. I suspect it's mainly work stress but am now obsessing about it.

Talking of work, my turn to rant. They're only just recruiting my replacement (no chance of a handover). Parts of my job are going to be covered by others in the team but one of the candidates today is looking for a lot more than I'm on - almost half as much again. My head of department is considering it..... So she'd be doing less than my role, getting paid significantly more and my company has a habit of keeping maternity cover folk on, so I'd be coming back and working alongside someone earning a stupid amount for less than I do. I'm furious, and just hoping the other chap in the running gets the job.

I missed the book chat yesterday. DH and I are going book shopping on Saturday and cannot wait. We're both huge bookworms and really hope the baby grows up with our love of books.

We're getting a 0-3 snowsuit. It can get cold up here so sure we'll need one in the first few months, we'll be travelling mostly by foot/ public transport so need to be cosy.

I'm sure I've forgotten half of what I meant to post!

Soupqueen · 22/08/2013 18:46

I've never been in Matalan either. Don't think there is one anywhere close.

I had a look in Primark for cheap suitable nighties and saw nothing - possibly because it was really busy and it was a good couple of hours since I should have had lunch so I was getting The Rage. Where else can I try?

Shirehobbit · 22/08/2013 18:54

You can also buy online from Matalan, soup

Shirehobbit · 22/08/2013 18:58

I watched Midwives on iplayer, yesterday. Really odd to see St Marys on tv (their EPU cared for me during my mcs) but I'm now registered with Wythenshawe (though still hopeful of having a homebirth).

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 19:11

Oh, I was born at St Marys!

I think at the time Stepping Hill was the nearest maternity unit to home but St Marys had a much better reputation and my mum insisted I was born there instead.

Haylebop12 · 22/08/2013 19:16

My dh was born at st. Mary's and my mil works there!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 19:23

Hayle - it would be an incredibly small world if your DH was born in November 1976, half-chinese and called Eric! (the baby next to me on the post-natal ward)

Haylebop12 · 22/08/2013 19:37

Haha sorry bridget your search is to continue! Dh was born in '81 Smile

Pinkforboys · 22/08/2013 19:38

Thanks pseudo, madly I don't venture across to Wood Green. I think cos it was a haunt of my youth, but that's no excuse. Must hop on the 41 bus...

I can't believe you're all watching Midwives. I saw the first couple of mins after GBB-Off, DS exclaimed- 'is that baby covered in blood!!', heard some screaming and had to turn it off. I've done it once, I'll do it again, but I can't watch others go through it! You're all made of far sterner stuff than me!

Got a Changing Bag today- a lovely squidgy pink lining one. Quite pleased to be making a start!

cazboldy · 22/08/2013 19:43

I haven't watched that midwives programme yet........ am not thinking about having to do that again yet! Grin

Natalie he is ging to do A levels, in maths, Physics, Product design and business studies, with hopes of eventually being a mechanical engineer.

Bridget To be fair I understand your uneasiness with exes. We were not "proper bf/gf - I got with dh when I was only 13 Grin, so more like really good friends - and I also think the key is being very open, so dh will often read a text from him, or chat to him too, and he knows there is nothing like that between us - just good friends!

Pseudo, hope all goes well tomorrow xx

and I also have never been in Matalan, although dd1 keeps asking to go in the new one that opened nearish us a couple of months ago..... I hate shopping and do all i can online!

textbook · 22/08/2013 19:48

Four minges Grin

xuntitledx · 22/08/2013 19:48

shire - snap! What's your EDD again? Maybe we'll be neighbours!

xuntitledx · 22/08/2013 19:50

shire - oh, sorry - just noticed the second half that you're hoping for a home birth so I hope we won't be neighbours in that case!! :)

Shirehobbit · 22/08/2013 19:56

I'm realistic, untitled - chances of admission are high, so you never know Smile
I'm due 13.10

chickieno1 · 22/08/2013 20:00

congrats on your son's results caz

the morrck blanket looks fab bridget will have a look for something similar here.

warlin I hope your sister is ok this christmas. It can be so difficult but she sounds better off without ex. My sister met her dp at 41 and she is in a very happy relationship now! It will be good for your siser to be with family over the holidays.

4 minges, hilarious clapham

bowlful I know what you mean about lovely moments with toddlers/preschoolers :). ds will be 3 in two weeks and we get some lovely phrases and cuddles which make the interrupted nights, tantrums etc worth it!

pink we had the bugaboo bee + and ds was born in sept so used the cocoon for some cold spells. I thought it was fine. He slept really well in it when out and about. He was well layered up and would have a blanket underneath as well. I thought the raincover was fine.

re bf I did avoid foods, more so early on while getting established. I definitely avoided coffee and tried to limit chocolate intake but did eat a lot of cake :). Of course it is great for them to taste different things both from our amniotic fluid and bm (if that s our choice). Now is the time to eat all those different foods if stomach/heartburn allows. I am not a bf counsellor only going by my experience of bf ds. I think kellymom is a good website and might have more info

chickieno1 · 22/08/2013 20:02

pseudo hope your bp settles down

chickieno1 · 22/08/2013 20:09

dh does cooking for xmas here too. I do help with the prep and some sides that I like but he runs the show :)

Ds first xmas 2010 was at ours with my dad and sister. Second xmas was with inlaws in Ireland which was nice for them as first grandchild and I they don't believe xmas happens anywhere else :)

Last xmas we moved here so was a bit stressful but nice reunion with dh as he moved 2 months beforehand

This xmas I think we will do as much as we can as ds will be 3 and can really get into it.

Natalieand · 22/08/2013 20:10

Just found out another friend is pregnant today too, she's only 4 weeks though :-) so exciting when your friends get pregnant! Especially when I decided to start ttc I thought everyone's toddler kids would be growing up and is be having a baby all on my own but now my friend has just given birth one is due when I am and another will be due next year how exciting!

Hope your feeling better pseudo

I absolutely love birthing programmes!!! I would watch them all day long if I could x

MotherOfNations · 22/08/2013 20:44

I used to bunk off school and spend the day in the shopping centre at Wood Green Pink.
