OrangeBlossom2 · 19/08/2013 10:22

Quick hello, I will catch up properly later. I am back from France and celebrated my first wedding anniversary yesterday which was lovely. DH is back to work today Sad

Going to visit my best friend now who just had an early miscarriage. Hopefully my big pregnant bump won't rub it in. Feeling very lucky that our little bean has stayed put so far.

pinkbuttons · 19/08/2013 10:46

Glad you had a lovely time away orange and Congratulations on your anniversary, hope your able to comfort your friend am sure she will be grateful your there for her.

Glad to here Im not the only one warlin, shooting and GT This morning I have tried playing dominos and snap cards with him just to do something sitting down, both lasted approximately 2 minutes... but really I think hes quite happy playing by himself doing his 2yr old thing. Were just trying to keep weekends busy so he has some fun before baby arrives.
GT we took DS out of nursery when we moved a couple of months ago, and were planning on keeping him home although hell get free nursery hrs from April next yr. Now thinking we might pay for him to go from January just for a couple of mornings a week so I get some time with baby but will see what funds can afford.
Glad flea situation seems more copable natalie and the dentist can see you!
shire DS has just begged me to go down for his nap early literally said "please mummy bed" so Ive just climbed into bed too and am going to have a cheeky nap after being awake 4 hrs Blush Its safe to say Im making the most of it while I can.

GTbaby · 19/08/2013 10:47

Nat ds is 1 on 16th oct. I'm due 30th sep. so I think even if I'm over due ill have the baby before his 1st baby. Although I think I'll be induced at 38weeks so will end up with 3/4 week gap.

Sry no advice to pet owners. Although you are giving me another reason to not get a pet!

MotherOfNations · 19/08/2013 10:50

I must do that Shite . I remember ready g a while ago that spaniels are prone to ear infections.

I use the treat.ent on bath day Natalie so the treat ent still has a week to work and if I'm honest probably more lately as I keep hanging on Hoping Dp will bath him .

Haylebop12 · 19/08/2013 10:51

Crappy sleep here too. We're at mils so dd and I are on an air bed. She's been up since 6am. I want to curl up and sleep. Dh is off to a funeral later so will definitely be putting the tv on for her and relaxing.

She starts school 9th September so leaving some preparations until then when I should technically have nothing to do between 9 and 3!

I think I'll get measured at 36/37 for nursing bras since dd arrived at 37+5!

claphammama · 19/08/2013 10:58

sounds like you had a lovely break orange and congrats on your 1st anniversary! sorry about your friend...

good luck with your scan funkky. I'm very anxious to hear your results as also have a low anterior placenta and a scan booked for next week... they say most of them move up as your uterus grows but I feel very nervous about it.

warlin move it forward by a week. I've moved mine forward by two weeks as also couldn't face being at work until end of September. This one week will mean nothing in the scheme of life but will make you feel so much better now!

pink I'm sure your DS won't be damaged by a day of TV, colouring and playing with his toys. Don't feel guilty. We can't be super mums all the time. I struggle with my five year old so don't know how you do it all ladies with toddlers... must be so much tougher.

natalie good luck with your dentist appointment, the last thing you need right now!

and flyer, shire and others who feel rough today - Brew for you

Also sorry to hear some of you have really opinionated NCT ladies. Mine was lovely, wasn't judgemental at all and always told us that different things work for everyone and we need to be flexible as things rarely go 100% according to plan.

I also didn't have a chance to weigh in re: pethidine yesterday. I had one shot 5 hours before giving birth and it worked for me. I was induced so in a lot of pain and didn't want an epidural - pethidine was a good alternative for me. I asked for a small dose and it was hours before I actually gave birth so DS wasn't drowsy or affected at all. I believe your reaction to pethidine depends on your individual tolerance and how you react to alcohol is a good indication (this is what our NCT lady said). I can drink a lot before I feel even slightly drunk so pethidine didn't knock me out at all. It just made me pleasantly tipsy - it didn't take the pain away at all, just made me care less about it for an hour or so. It was a relatively short but helpful (sort of) respite from relentless pain (you don't really have any breaks between contractions when induced). So don't discard it and see how it goes. Think about your alcohol tolerance and I know the timing is very important as well

textbook · 19/08/2013 11:11

Just seen another consultant and have a definitive diagnosis of placenta praevia grade II Hmm

Section date being moved forward a week (so will be w/c 23rd Sep) and I'm to keep my phone on me at all times in case of sudden bleeding. Can't go too far from home either, and need to keep hospital bag and notes on me. Section will be carried out by a consultant also as increased risk of heavy bleeding during the op.

I have another scan next Monday to check placenta, and am seeing the consultants again in 2 weeks. Fun and games - but I definitely feel like I'm being looked after.

Hope everyone else has a slightly better day!

Warlin · 19/08/2013 11:14

GT that sounds tough. I can't stay in the house with ds as he drives me nuts! He gets bored and he is still crawling and I spend the whole time chasing after him as he crawls at lightening speed to tip the dog's water bowl over. I find it much easier even to go to soft play or somewhere where he can't wreck the place.
He currently does 2 days a week in nursery and 2 days with my parents. I was planning to drop him to 1 day in nursery to save money but then I'm not guaranteed to get the same day back again and my mum can only do 2 set days so I have decided to keep the 2 days. I don't have to send him all the time I suppose but I reckon I will be very glad of the peace :) Plus he loves it anyway.

clapham you are so right. A week is nothing but seems so much more bearable than the thought of another 3 weeks. That will mean finishing next Thur and since Monday is a bank holiday and I have booked next Wed off as I have no childcare, I will only have 5 more days of work...yippee. Should I tell them sooner or wait until next week and say I can't do much more. I would much rather slip away than make a big deal out of it.

shire my batteries are dead today too...I have really bad heartburn too which isn't helping...ahh not long to go now ladies........

Shirehobbit · 19/08/2013 11:28

I tried recharging my batteries with Cake and now feel stuffed Blush.

I have been calling the Drs surgery and community midwives to try and find out when they want to see me, as I have missed the 31 week app. Despite leaving messages on the community midwives answer machine last week, as directed, where we are reassured we will be contacted within 24 hours, I have heard nothing.

claphammama · 19/08/2013 11:28

oh no textbook... what does "grade II" mean? And how many weeks are you now? At least you are looked after xx

do it warlin! You know best when to tell them. I would probably tell them this week so you can relax and know it's done. Otherwise you will be going over and over it again in your head hundreds of times and stressing about it (at least this is what I know I would do! :-)

bluesnowfalcon · 19/08/2013 11:49

Just had 31 week midwife appointment although I'm 31+5. Bubs heart good and still moving well, apparently he'd down which is good but midwife was surprised by how bump is all baby and reckons I'm looking at a 9lb er. Was kinda hoping that she'd be smaller as had emcs on ds because he was big, had a big head and got stuck. Was really hoping to not have a repeat performance this time as had rubbish recovery last time and this time also have ds who is 3 to run around after.

Anyone else meant to be having a vbac? Or had a vbac with big baby? I'm usually only a size 8/10 and obviously must produce big babies! Not sure whether to give it A go or just go for elc which was an option but didn't want the horrendous recovery now confused.com :(

As for fleas - the warm weather and long grass really play a massive part in the problem and once they are in the house it is a nightmare to get rid. We had a can of spray from the vets - it was about £30 a can but it did kill them and other than having to leave the house for bout 3 hours after spraying and then continuously hoovering for days it worked!

Hope everyone manages to get rid of the fleas and then enjoy Brew and Cake

Shootingstarsandcomets · 19/08/2013 11:52

gt my ds went through a super clingy phase once he'd started to crawl. It didnt last long though. His sleeping also went terribly wrong and he was to be found at all hours of the night crawling round his cot. Settled down after a few weeks only to be interrupted by more teeth.
We are going to put ds into nursery for 2 days a week for as long as we can afford it will really help me bond with the newborn I think and be good for ds as he is very attached to me so think he needs some more people in his life!!!

SeriousStuff · 19/08/2013 11:59

Tarlia and Pink it was around 4.30am in the end...I could hear birds singing!

Spent the morning putting baby stuff in the nursery, finally. No I'm ready for another nap...it's a vicious circle.

Shire and Blues I'd love some cake now.

Shootingstarsandcomets · 19/08/2013 12:14

bluesnow I'm having a vbac but consultant has said he will only allow of baby isn't too large as I'm petite too. I hate the idea of anther cs so am really hoping my vbac is successful

Sparkeleigh · 19/08/2013 12:23

tuckingfits thanks! Grin I was so chuffed!

Warlin I'd go for it if you can. The two days I'm getting from Christmas have made such a difference for me. You'll know best how they'll react to choose your method of telling them though!

orange congrats on your anniversary! Flowers Sorry to hear about your friend though, it's very sad.

textbook they really sound like they're looking after you well, it's good to know you'll have a consultant at the birth too.

Shirehobbit - could you just ring a book an appointment for this week with the midwife without waiting for an answer on when they want to see you? They sound a bit useless...

I think I'm probably one of the least organised people on the thread, but does anyone have any advice on cotbeds vs cots? I'm leaning towards a cotbed but my mum has told me that there's no point because if I have another baby before the first has grown out of it, I'll have to buy another anyway. I don't know which to go for Confused

funkky · 19/08/2013 12:35

clapham good news! Low lying placenta is now further up and out of the way... MW had been hinting that as I had no bleeding so far, its most likely to have moved so hope that allays your fears a bit.
Baby also head down but even at 34 weeks, this can still change unless he is engaged, only MW can confirm if baby is engaged so will keep humping ball to make sure.
Sorry to hear text, but good to know you are being looked after, they do take placenta praeveria seriously. What does grade 2 mean?

Warlin · 19/08/2013 12:38

Spark we got a cotbed last time and I've gone for another one this time. They are a good bit bigger than a cot so will convert into a bed. I had planned to hand cotbed down to second child but with the close age gap we decided to jsut get a second. There isn't much difference in price so at least you have the option rather than having to go and buy a toddler bed at an early stage.

My boss is on annual leave until next Tue (this is the one who asked for a business case for finishing at 37 weeks). I think I'll just submit a leave request to finish next Thur and see what happens. She prob wont see it until the Tue but I'm not sure what they can really say. I've left my diary clear for Sept and am trying to hand things over (despite there being nobody identified for my role). Will just do it and get it over with...arghh

I have the mw tomorrow for my 34 week apt. Last time I went was at 28 weeks and they told me I was measuring small and to come back in 2 weeks. I never did as a) there were no apts and b) we had the private scan which showed all is ok. IMO they are really bad at following up though and it shouldn't always be left to us to arrange everything. What if I hadn't been for the scan and hadn't been back and the baby had been small for some reason? There just seem to be very few apts throughout the months..if this was my first pregnancy or if we hadn't had a few extra scans I would be really panicked. Don't think they'd care if you never went in to see them. Need to ask about Strep B as nobody has mentioned this to me. shire your experience confirms this.

orange congrats on the anniversary and sorry about your friend. Will be hard for her to see your bump I'm sure.

BowlFullofJelly · 19/08/2013 12:42

Had 34 week appointment today and got my referral to the birth centre, yay. Baby is head down and back out, so in a nice position - just hope she stays there now. Also measuring just under 6 weeks, but the midwife and I are not concerned - DS was a chunky 8lbs 6, so am expecting another on the larger side.

I'm very much struggling with the toddler - he is just a nightmare if I don't get him out of the house and tire him out, but too much walking keeps bringing on painful braxton hicks and bad back - lord only knows how I will manage once I start mat leave next week.

Sorry to hear about your PP textbook - but at least you are well informed and can plan around.

BowlFullofJelly · 19/08/2013 12:45

36 weeks - 6 week would be a concern

Shirehobbit · 19/08/2013 12:45

There are no available appointments Sparkleigh this week or next (due to bank holiday) which is why I'm chasing.
Totally agree Warlin - how many women must just fall through the net? This is my first, I'm now 32 weeks, won't be seen til 34 and haven't been seen since 28. I've measured big since 20 weeks, but no one seems to be bothered. I've never seen the same mw more than once.
So much for bp/urine monitoring too.
Feel a bit out on a limb tbh.

Pinkforboys · 19/08/2013 13:01

I'll echo clapham's sentiments and say I really admire those of you with toddlers. DS is 6 and thankfully happy to watch endless tv play lego/draw/paint happily whilst I take things lightly. That said he did have a whole week of soccer school last week that truly wore him out. But a toddler is more like having a dog- they usually need a daily walk. Do you have a nearby playground where you can sit on a bench whilst they run riot?

Orange happy first anniversary! A very special one, especially with bump on the way. I hope things go well with your friend- always a mixed emotion post mc- you are both a reminder but also a symbol of hope.

textbook that all sounds so scary, but also sounds like you've got good consultants. another e.g. that we're really lucky to live in the time/world that we do. Take things easy x

This lack of mw appts is really worrying. I'm sure I was seen a lot more 6 years ago. I last saw mine at 27w and next appt is 34w. I also remember routinely having 5-7vials of blood taken on every visit to UCH, and this time I've had about 1 bt. Anyone else having different experience?

ps- all this talk about fleas is making me scratch...Wink

textbook · 19/08/2013 13:20

clapham and funkky - grade II praevia refers to how close the placenta is to the OS (cervix opening). From what I understand, grade I means it's close, grade II touching, grade III partially covering and grade IV completely covering. Obvs grade IV is the most serious in terms of potential problems. One silver lining is that placenta is posterior, so this is much safer with regards to the section as they won't need to cut it to get to baby. I feel like an expert on PP already!

Really hoping not to have a bleed, have (touch wood) had nothing so far and am 33+3. I'm going to use this as an excuse to take things as easy as possible after this week. Only 4 more days at work until Mat leave Grin

xuntitledx · 19/08/2013 13:39

textbook - not sure if this will be helpful or scare you (if it's the latter, apologies in advance!)... my sister had PP and ended up having quite a serious bleed at 34 weeks followed by an emergency C-Section and blood transfusions however my niece absolutely thrived and was only in SCBU for a few weeks.

One year on, my niece is still absolutely thriving and no issues with being delivered early.

PseudoBadger · 19/08/2013 13:49

Oh gosh DS is driving me insane. He's in a 'no' phase and I just haven't got the strength or mobility to manhandle move him/dress him/change his nappy/brush his teeth. I'm shouting lots which is just horrible for us both. I'm a bit at the end of my tether and am wondering what the hell I've done getting pregnant :(

OP posts:
claphammama · 19/08/2013 14:00

textbook fingers crossed for you and good it's at least posterior. And lucky you with only 4 more days to your ML!

funkky yay! Great news on both fronts. You can relax now. And yes re: them not necessarily staying in place. My little bugger was head down last week but yesterday I felt again that he went sideways... now I think he is head down again but not 100% sure. I wish he just stayed there... I'm 30+6 and have had no bleeding so far - hope it's good news then although textbook also hasn't had any... I guess I will just have to wait until next Tuesday to know...

good news bowlfull!

pinkforboys I agree, I had many more appointments last time I was pregnant, 5 years ago. I think I had them every 4 weeks from 16 weeks onwards and then every 2 weeks after 32 weeks, finally every week after 36 weeks. I'm pretty sure...
