dragonhart when I worked it out wsa actually cheaper to buy a doppler as most of the rental places charge £20-25 a month and you can buy them new on ebay for around £60 and then sell it on for at least £30-40. Some do pick up heartbeat this early although it can be very very difficult. I was lucky as picked it up at 9wks with DD but no luck as yet this time..just glad I know everything is ok.

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 21:14

Def considering buying one Nemo as I have to wait over two weeks for first scan. I am 12wks now and want to start telling people but am worried about doing it before I know everything is ok. Didn't worry last time but something is stoping me this time. Guess it is expensive just to reasure me for two weeks though!

Nemo1977 · 24/06/2006 21:19

DH do you have other children? I found the doppler fab when having DD as DS was only little but helped him to understand there was a baby in mummys tummy. Probably why I have bought my friends this time.

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 21:24

Have a 11month old boy. Dont think he would really understand? He would prob try to eat it!! Guess he might find it interesting towards the end and might understand then. How old was your ds? Same or older?

Nemo1977 · 24/06/2006 21:28

Ds was 17mths when I got PG with DD. So he was a bit older. 11mths is a bit young I think but you never know. I am not even attempting it with DD as she is only 6mths...she would probably want to eat it.

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 21:39

He is most interested in eating everything in site as he is teething really badly and any type of wires are too much temptation!!

Prob leave it for now. Guess if there was something wrong and I couldn't find a heartbeat it would not put my mind at rest and if I said that I wanted a scan earlier because I couldn't find a heartbeat on a doppler they would just tell me that I was a bit crazy and what did I expect! Might make me worry even more.

Cheers for the advise though Nemo xx

KerryJ · 24/06/2006 21:51

I know what you mean Loubie about it being a possible worry rather than a reassurance. I've just been really lucky I guess in that I managed to find it so easily, at 9+6! I think when you're using it on yourself you've more time to wait and be patient, whereas a midwife might not try for so long. It does say on the hire site (www.mybump.com) that most people manage to find a heartbeat at around 10 weeks though

I'm only keeping hold of mine for 1 month, but it is costing £26 (inc postage), plus then another £6-7 to post it back, so quite pricey. Worth it for me for the peace of mind, though.

ds2 is 15 months and I hadn't considered that he might be interested in hearing the baby. He'd probably try to shout into it like a microphone (one of his favourite toys at the moment is his ELC piano with working mic!!) Very peaceful and civilised (not!)

I'd also be interested in hearing from people who have 3 in carseats as I will have to get a bigger car - only got a fiesta at the moment. Was thinking of a Zafira or Renault Scenic - anyone have any experience with either of these (it will need to be a cheap version, second hand for sure, as I'll only have about £5000 to spend).

Nemo1977 · 24/06/2006 21:53

Kerry I have an old reanult scenic and love it. There is tons of space and it will fit all 3 carseats in the back for me. So recommendation from me.

qsack · 24/06/2006 22:07

hi there, new one to add to the group. think i'm due in jan 07 but have a scan on tuesday as absolutely no idea on dates. haven't had a proper cycle since before getting pregnant with ds2 back in july 04!
anyway, quick question to anyone who's had a baby before and had problems with veins in legs. i was fine with ds1, from about week 16 with ds2 i had to wear support tights on left leg every day and now already i'm starting to feel it and can't believe i'm going to have a summer of wearing tights..... ugghh. last time i wore hold ups over the top as they wouldn't stay up, i don't want that this time as it's summer for the next 2 months. i'm thinking suspenders but don't really want to do that, wonder if i could wear a garter or would that be bad for circulation? help!!!
ps. not normally into football but watching argentina vs mexico who are in extra time and it's a great game!!

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 22:16

Welcome qsak!

Have to disagree about the football match though! I am being forced to flick between it and Bigbrother to "check the score" which takes ages apparently!!

Roll on whenever it finishes!!

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 22:17

Thats the whole world cup not just this match!!

Dragonhart · 24/06/2006 22:21

By the way Kerry it was me asking about the doppler but thanks for the advise XXX

KerryJ · 25/06/2006 07:15

Sorry Dragonhart - was getting confused (easily done these days!)

Thanks for the recommedation Loubie - I really like the look of the Scenic and have spotted a couple in the paper at really reasonable prices, so will definitely look into that as an option.

While on the subject of recommendations, I'm also thinking about which double buggy (if any) to get. DS2 will be 21m when the baby arrives and he goes in his buggy every day for the school run. I don't think he (or I!) will be quite ready at that stage (particularly mid-Jan!) for him to be roaming free, so I will need a double for a while. Anyone got any experience / recommendations?

trinityrhino · 25/06/2006 08:04

another vote here for the scenic, absolutlely LOVE mine. It greats for space for the car seats and wonderful to drive. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

Another one looking for recommendations on double buggies...

LadyTophamHatt · 25/06/2006 10:50

We went to look at the new Ford S-max the other day.
Really nice car, and comparing it to other MPV's the same size it's a few thousand cheaper. My uncle works for Ford and we can apparently get discount too (according to my brother) so that's FAB.
No advise on the double buggies I'm afraid, all the ones I've had were shite(and discontinued now anyway) so I won't bother mentioning those!

Nothing much to report PG wise. Still tired, sickness gone.....Thank-god and the only other sympton is that I'm unbelieveably ratty all the time.
Scan still ages away and I can't think of a good enough reason to go and get an earlier one. Have no aches, pains or worries just the usual anxiety of waiting for the scan date to arrive.

Better go, ds3 is sitting on ds2's head and he's complaining that ds3 has done a stinker.

Nemo1977 · 25/06/2006 11:43

lol Kerry think you have Loubie on the mind..

Double buggies..I used a marco sky for DS and DD. Said from 2mths for the back seat but it lies flat enough to use from birth. Will be using it again for DD and DB. Excellent if you are over 5ft6. If under that then I wouldnt recommend it.

Have a feeling may have to take DD back to hospital as she is getting chesty and breathing is getting a bit laboured again..sigh so if I go missing for a week you know why.

LadyTophamHatt · 25/06/2006 12:20

Oh nemo...I just saw you other thread about DD.

Poor little thing, hope it doesn't mean another hospital stay.....

OP posts:
Dragonhart · 25/06/2006 12:38

Also hope it improves without a hospital stay. Must be very worrying . Sending ((((((hugs)))))).

Loubie37 · 25/06/2006 13:44

Hi, gosh - loads to catch up on! Someone asked what the Zafira is like...I'll tell you tomorrow after we've picked it up! I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get 3 car seats/people across the middle row of seats though, the seat belts are mega long as the whole middle row slides backwards and forwards if you know what I mean, so they've got to be long enough to fit, even if the seats at the furthest point away from the anchorage points.

We're more bothered about whether a Jane matrix car seat/carry cot will fit properly, but we'll just have to wait and see when we go try one out at MothercareWorld and DH won't go until after the 12 week scan, grrrr...

I'm feeling a bit less tired today thank God, but having to watch what I eat - I had awful stomach cramps last night at 2am and ended up sat on the loo for half an hour...I had pepperoni pizza for tea which must have disagreed with me? So I'm sticking to bland stuff for a while, just in case as it was horrid

I've had to go out and buy some more clothes a size or 2 bigger already and I'm only 10 weeks, God knows what I'll be like after 40 :0 But my other stuff was definitely getting uncomfortable, so I'm gonna stick to stretchy waist bands from now on

Hope your daughter is better soon Nemo xx

KerryJ · 25/06/2006 20:13

Lol Nemo - def got a bad case of pregnancy brain...not sure why Loubie kept popping into my head . I'm not a cyber-stalker, honest Loubie!

Sorry to hear your dd is poorly Nemo - wishing her a speedy recovery and hope you don't end up in hospital with her

Had an okay day today although look about 6 months pregnant. This bloating is getting beyond a joke!! Off to do a search to see if I can find any miracle cures...

Loubie37 · 25/06/2006 20:39

LOL Kerry, don't worry I get everyone mixed up too! I blame it on the baby hormones.....

Peppermint water is supposed to be good for bloating/indigestion so I hear? Might be worth a try

Is anyone else still getting twinges and pains down below? It's not cramping as such but quite painful and I keep worrying that it means something is wrong. Hopefully it's just everything growing down there, is anyone else the same?

Loubie x
10+1

2Happy · 25/06/2006 20:51

Yes, Loubie, I'm getting pains too. I remember getting crampy period like pains with ds, but this time I'm getting quite sharp almost stabby pains that I don't remember getting last time (one of the reasons why I was panicking before the scan on friday!). Guess it's just all part of the wonderful experience that is the first trimester

indignatio · 26/06/2006 06:24

Hi girls
On the flight home on Sat night I started bleeding - I'm still bleeding (sorry if too much info) not a lot of blood - mostly brown - some wipes are a bit red - am taking it easy - have scan on Fri - should I call Midwife today ? Think I'm about 10/11 weeks
dh and 1 are worried as I did not have this with ds

Loubie37 · 26/06/2006 07:44

Hi Indignatio, try not to worry too much, I had what sounds exactly the same as you for around 5 weeks starting at week 4. It's still here but much less now, I only got the very occasional hint of brown when I wipe. I had 4 scans because of this at 5,6,7 & 8 weeks and each time baby was thriving.

I can't say with 100% certainty that you'll be fine, no one can unfortunately, I just wanted to reassure you that it doesn't always mean the worst.

Fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on x
