My original due date was 17/7 but that got changed to 20/1 at my first scan

Morning all. Welcome to those who have joined, there's a stats thread here is you haven't already found it.
We've been away to dsis's wedding this weekend. Unfortunately for us she decided to have it where her husband lives in Kent, so it meant 11 hours travelling to get there. Great fun with a 13 month old and morning sickness in a heatwave, bleurgh. Still it was a good do, though PG hormones and weddings don't go well together, was teary by the first chorus of the first ruddy hymn
I've been avidly following all the MN double buggy threads since I found out I was PG, but am still confused. And I don't think they'll fit either in the car or through the front door. Sigh.

Dragonhart · 17/07/2006 10:36

Morning all! Glad the all the scans went well, hope the scan goes well today Loubie, sorry if anyone is still feeling rubbish and welcome to the newcomers!

Sorry about the general wishes but been away for the weekend to MIL and FIL's at the beach in essex so we had a lovely few days. DS got his first paddle in the sea that he enjoyed (tried at my dad's but he lives in Inverness so it was pretty cold and he kept lifting his legs up out of the water!). Had a party with DH's family on sat and told everyone about being preg. Everybody happy but ofcourse we got lots of "was it an accident/planned" comments which I really hate.

Got back late last night (thank goodness for air con!!) and took ds ages to drop off. He has had a cold and has passed it to me (who gets a cold in July!!) so had a croaky voice and sore throat all weekend. Still had fun though.

On the bumb front, I def have one. Just presumed that it was because of having one before and everything was a bit saggy. Have to admit though, befroe the scan last week was having nightmares that there was more than one in there!! Quite scared just how big I will be by the end. Hope it slowes down!!

Am totally stuck on the buggy front. Have an offer of a free hardly used double buggy, but think its handles are too short which means an aching back for me!! All double ones seem to be atleast £200 so am searching for a tall handled cheap double (some hope!) Gutting as I spent quite alot on a lovely pram and puchchaor for my ds and it is so comfy to use but ds is too young to make him walk so will have to get cheap buggy prob.!

LadyTophamHatt · 17/07/2006 10:40

I bought this one at the weekend.

It's really really nice and I can't wait to use it

Lth- Thanks for the pushchair advice, it looks good to me. I think I may just have to get the same one! It ticks all my boxes!

Loubie- Hope all goes well today. We didn't opt for the nuchal, but I wished we had now..hope to hear from you later.x.

Hello pudmog! Don't think I have met you before..

Well dd is alot better today, bit of a bruise on the bridge of her nose, but no black eyes. And the revelation that by going to school she will have a whole number of people to tell about the baby, has cheered her up 100%!!lol! Its soo funny to watch her playing at the mo, as all her old baby doll stuff has come out the cupboard with avengence and the make believe games of mums & dads is rife!! I think I can safely say that she is going to want to do everything for the new arrival!! They is probably good and bad in that..

Well, catch up later

it's much much much nicer in real life Jess....

the cosytoes is especially cute with all the apples over it, ands it's reversible. So if you're a slacker like me when one side gets grubby you can just turn it over, reather than washing it every time

It's really strudy too, much more so than other buggies I've had/seen over the years. The seat is really wide too, my ds3 could sit comfortably in it and he's nearly 3.

Go on woman....buy it...get it now....go on you know you want too

(I can't beleive how fast our Jan threads grow, have youall seen the number of posts!!???)

Hi everyone glad you are all well, im not to great iv been getting really bad headaches I think I might have a bit of high blood pressure so need to see the midwife soon I suppose. Lth the pram you bought is lovely wait till you have something to put in it , im trying out the first day of potty training today for ds any tips ladies ?

Loubie37 · 17/07/2006 17:06

Just a quickie as I've only got a few minutes, I'll catch up with all the personals tomorrow if that's OK!

Well I had my scan and it was amazing! It was so much clearer and in much more detail than my 12 week one (although I would've been disappointed if it wasn't for the amount it cost us )

My downs risk based on my age was 1:98 and it fell to 1:698 (I think) based on the scan results. Hopefully when the blood tests are thrown in the pot as well (they're ringing us on Thursday with them) then it will be even lower but to be honest I'm happy with them as they are.

Baby looked very well, I can't believe we saw the brain, stomach, bladder, legs, arms, feet, hands & nose so clearly! The hb was 148bpm (I think) and the consultant was more than happy with what he saw so that's good enough for me

We had a little shopping trip to celebrate on the way home, we went to MothercareWorld in Hull but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the pushchair on show that we're thinking of. I didn't want to buy it today, but wanted to see what it looks like in real life.... We did however buy some bottles and a bottle warmer I've got quite a few bits now in the spare room (which will eventually be the nursery) and keep having a peek to ooh and aah over everything! Am I the only one who's started buying stuff??

Anyway, must dash, we're going to a football match and I've got to cook tea yet.

Hope everyone is well

Loubie xx

I started getting bits and pieces too loubie, new buggy(), high chair, muslins, weaning stuff......but can I just say something about bottle warmers??

They are a huge waste of money!
Unless they've re-designed them to heat the milk up faster(ie in seconds) you'll land up with a hungry, screaming baby at 3am because it's not doing it fast enough.

IME it'll be back in the box within weeks (if not days) and you'll be giving the milk a quick 20 seconds in the microwave, which is perfectly safe as ling as you give it a good shake after it's warmed up.

Take it back and buy some new clothes for the baby.

sorry, excellent news about your scan.....bottle warmers set me off abit

laughalot · 17/07/2006 18:50

Microwave it definatley I could have thrown the bottle warmer out the window glad all is well loubie hope you arent taking part in the footie tonight though . Iv not been coping with the heat today at all feeling very down and fed up and my tummy feels like its being streached every direction possible.

Loubie37 · 17/07/2006 22:13

LOL re the bottle warmer! I had one with my son and found it invaluable at night time...if I put it on as soon as he started to stir, by the time I'd got to him and checked his nappy etc it was just warm enough (I only took the chill off the milk so didn't need to put it on for long). During the day we used the microwave though, much easier!

I haven't been playing footie laughalot perish the thought! We're all big Grimsby Town fans and we had a pre season friendly tonight at home to one of our local rivals - Doncaster, so we thought we'd go along and see how the team is shaping up.....we lost!

Anyway I'm off to bed, will catch up with you all soon

PS LTH - I love the buggy!!

LadyTophamHatt · 18/07/2006 07:14

Ok loubie, we'll let you keep it then.........but don't say we didn't warn you

hehehehahahaha

I'm 15 weeks today.....how on earth did that happen?? I seem to have lost the weeks between 7 and 15...it's whizzed passed
I remember when I was PG with ds3 and it flying until 26 weeks when I said to someone "I can't believe how fast it's going...i'm 26 weeks and it's just flown by"
Ha!....26-40 weeks took about 6 years after saying that, it just seems to grind to a halt. I won't be saying it out loud this time so hopefully just "saying" it to you all won't have to same result.

Now, I have one last request...(magnolia...don't read this bit)....will somebody...anybody please turn the sun off??

Hi everyone, glad scan went well Loubie and you are not the only one buying things, I got DH to go in the loft at the weekend and he got the car seat, bath support, newborn clothes, towels etc down I thought I was very impatial last time and bought lots of white things however it looks like when DD was born I returned everything and swapped it for pink as only have 3 newborn outfits in white and 6 white babyros although I seem to have about 50 white vests!! anyway decided I am going to e bay loads of her clothes as even if this one is a girl al the clothes are the wrong season (my DD summer clothes were 9-12 months dont think I'll need those next winter!!) Also must be having mad nesting as every morning getting up & sorting cupboards etc DD&I sorted playroom and she helped put all the baby toys in a bag and cleaned all her other toys with antibac wipes long many this continue (although am slightly OCD about cleaning whether pg or not)

Saw Dr yesterday re water infection he said 2nd sample came back showing a significant reduction and if I wasnt in any pain he'd rathe not do antibiotics so got to give another sample tomorrow to be on safe side, he did get his doppler out and after 10 minutes found the babys heartbeat which was lovely (was going to get one but if he struggled to find it I know I'll panic so gone off that idea now)

jessddibs · 18/07/2006 10:08

Morning all!

IT'S TOO BLOODY HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the sun and love sunbathing etc, but this is taking the michael! And not sure if any of you remember, but I am doing the cancer research race for life tomorrow! AAAAAHHHHHHH! It is going to be soo hard to do in this heat...Please, please, please sponsor me and make it worth while..even just £1 helps..

www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/jessicsdibley

Don't pay attention to what I have raised so far!?! I have been collecting alot in cash from friends and family. But am still a few hundred pounds short. If poss, ask your family, friends, work people etc. Thank you.x.x And think of me tomorrow evening in my face paint, pink cowgirl hat and dripping in sweat!! lol!

Havn't dared to go into the loft yet. We want to find out the sex of the baby, so gonna wait until after then before I start to sort through stuff. It's all nearly 6yrs old, so it may all be a bit out of fashion!! And I really wish I had the cleaning/sorting bug that some of you have talked about...I just have the lay on the sofa eating bug!!!

Lth, you have alot to answer for according to my dh!!?!! I want that pushchair now!!! lol!

jessddibs · 18/07/2006 10:11

Sorry..I spelt my own name wrong in the web address for my sponsor page! My brain is cooking in the heat!

elliepippamummy · 18/07/2006 11:05

Hi I forgot to mention my mum & dad picked DD a book up to ty and help her understand whats happening its called "Theres a house iside my mummy" by Giles Andreae & Vanessa Cabban its fntastic rhyming book explaining that sometimes mummy feels unwell and seeing the baby move etc shes only 23 months but every day gets it out an we read it 2 or 3times she now thinks I have a tummy telephone to talk to the baby!! Just an idea for some of you who have number 2, 3 or 4 o teh way!!!

laughalot · 18/07/2006 11:39

Elliepip where was the book from my ds would like that ?

laughalot · 18/07/2006 11:42

I should have added onto the end of my last message, hope you are all well im ok but this heat is killing me however when we are all up in the freezing winter doing the night feeds we shall be moaning again lol.

ELM · 18/07/2006 12:19

Hello to everyone suffering in the heat. Off for another scan this afternoon....this is the NHS one that I thought we didn't get in our area
Have already had the private one and paid for it, but just can't resist the thought of seeing the baby again...

This time I am taking my Mum, so she can go weepy over the baby, but also because she has a lovely air conditioned car and I don't!

Hi Enola.. I had a similar problem with my wisdom tooth in very early stages b4 I found out I was pregnant..had antibiotics, and was guzzling IB Profen actually thought it was the wisdom tooth that was making me so tired I'm supposed to have mine out too..so will be very interested to hear how you get on..

Will cross the bottle warmer off my list of things to shop for....any other recommendations of things not to buy?

curtaintwitcher · 18/07/2006 15:56

glad am not only one melting in the heat took littlies to indoor play thing this morning just becuase I knew it had airconditioning and sold slush puppies..lol

WE had there is a house inside my mummy for adam and he loved it..used to read it everyday and helped him understand about the baby coming.

elliepippamummy · 18/07/2006 16:16

Laughalot having a pg moment my friend got the book from 2nd hand book shop and its brand new(my mum and dad just back from hols and was talking to my mum whilst typing hence wrong person!!)

I think you'll probably be able to get it in book shop like WH smiths or waterstones the ISBN number (think this is how they look books up) is 1-84121-068-4

Totally agree with all comments about bottkle warmers used mine twice and it was back in the box, also bought one of those sangenic nappy bins but could never get the thing to work and it ponged after 2 days so that is also in its box!

CoopedUp · 18/07/2006 18:55

Well its only just occurred that there would be a thread on mumsnet that would make me feel a bit more at home... I moved from Reading and the comfortable surroundings of playgroups/childminders & grandparents to Wiltshire in Feb, which did mean that we could buy a house where another baby would fit in, but support structures, frienships etc take time to set up don't they? I'd usally share this with dh, but he's late on the trains which have conked out in the heat. (yay)

Having set the garden up with paddling pool, awning, sandpit and chairs we decided that it was still too hot at 5pm and have retreated indoors where we have been all day. Made the daft mistake of opening the prawn crackers and treating baby to its fortnightly (ish) glug of rose with dd1 opting for biscuits, cheese and apple for dinner (I couldn'tdecide what to make so dawdled until she got the cheese out of the fridge and found a plastic knife to 'chop-it' with). Its too hot for anything else. Now dd1 wont stop coming back for more prawn crackers, and the biscuits & cheese are trodden in to the carpet. >big sigh<

re: potty training, little refresher sweeties for wee wees and a lollipop for poo poos worked for a while until we realised that one wee could be stretched to four or five and the sugar consumption went up to unacceptable proportions with a lollipop a day. We've been working at it slowly since Dec last year (dd1 was 2.25yrs and showed interest), and its been a bit up and down especially with the house move and one of her friends getting it practically overnight . Having said that, I stopped the squash, and went back to water only. Its less acidic so seems to give dd1 enough time to get to the potty or tell mummy. Also because she likes it less, she drinks enough to quench her thirst but doesn't pig out and flood the system as it were... Won't be acheiving dryness for several years according to family history, but getting through fewer feel & learn pull-ups and less carpet shampoo.
