Lovely to hear about miracle baby amicus!

Now that I've announced news, my friends who are already mummies have started talking to me about birth options - one friend had her DD in a birthing centre and apparently it was so text book (just g&a for pain) that with her next she will probably go for home birth.

I'm too much of a worrier so thinking birthing centre which is in the maternity hospital so if all goes wrong I'm only a lift ride away from the surgeons and consultants! Do wonder whether it'd be nicer to be at home but I have cats so would be stressing about hygiene also my new beige carpets

Told project team at work yesterday afternoon (mainly men aged 40+) who were completely stunned and now don't know what to say to me.

One of my pregnancy apps has now changed from freebie to pay as I've entered the 2nd trimester. Anyone got any good app recommendations that are still free?

My 20 week scan was booked when u went for my 12 week scan and my next midwife appointment is around 20w too which was booked when I has my booking appointment

EeyoreIsh · 13/08/2013 10:57

my 20 week scan was booked as I left my 12 week scan. I had to book my 16 mw appointment myself.

DH and I have started to think about names. because this baby feels like a miracle, we want the name to reflect that. We really like Theodore which means 'God's gift', but my sister is apparently thinking of that for her baby which is due imminently. I hope she chooses another name instead! We've struggled with other boys names, although we have a list of 6 others none of them are clear winners. We really like the name James, but as my DH's step dad has that name we couldn't use it without causing offence... so difficult!

We've found girl's names much easier, three clear favourites and we'll decide on which when we meet baby.

Having said all that, we are reserving the right to review the list up until we meet the baby!

I've found baby names far easier to decide on than prams/buggies/strollers! We've decided to look in person at them once we've had our 20 week scan.

I have a girl name. Which I hope would suit my girl. I'd its a boy Pfft! No clue!!!

sunflowered · 13/08/2013 11:00

My 16 wk mw and 20 wk scan were both booked at my booking in appt - but might need to rebook 20 weeks if my dates are slightly out.

Baby names are starting to become a bit of an issue in our house. Dh really likes laurence and earnest. Would anyone out there name a son either laurence or ernest? I wouldn't myself, but dh thinks I'm being unreasonable.

On the pram front, does anyone really regret what they bought first time round? And would a more lightweight version (eg bugaboo bee or similar in a better price range!) be as robust as a big chunky travel system?

homebyninethirty I'm also seriously considering a home birth this time (DC2). Want to chat to my midwife about it in a few weeks at my 16 week appointment but I know I'm a prime candidate as had a very fast and straightforward water birth with DS so I'm considering it for lots of reasons and having read lots of MN threads on the subject I'm more and more keen! Think we would hire a birthing pool - is that what you had in mind?

Misskatamari a good friend of mine has the M&P Sola and seems really happy with it. She's got the one with the colourful bright lining which is lovely.

champagne and somany I'm with you on the limited choice of foodstuffs you can manage, it's so boring isn't it. I cannot wait to be able to really enjoy food again come February. With my first pregnancy, I was sick/nauseous on and off the whole way through but the day I gave birth (he arrived just before 10pm), I woke up that morning feeling amazing, like a fog had lifted, went into town with my Mum, had a decaff coffee (having been off coffee my whole pregnancy) and loved it, then out for a lovely lunch which tasted amazing. Then that evening I went into labour and 3 hrs later had DS. So I'm sure the hormones shifted that morning. Plus I fondly remember those early days with DH on paternity leave cooking nice things for me while I lounged on the sofa with a sleeping newborn on me. We'll get there!

ch1134 · 13/08/2013 11:12

Champagne Bubble - mind if I ask you about the Rhesus negative injection? I've just found out I am O+ with CW antibodies, which is apparently quite rare. I'm told there is a risk of Rhesus disease in newborn depending on father's blood type (which is being tested next week), and this rises with each pregnancy. I'm concerned about not being able to have a natural birth or not being able to have more children later on... do you have any experience of anything similar? Thanks

Somanychanges · 13/08/2013 11:15

My husband keeps coming up with names I cannot stand like Vanessa and Anoushka(sp). I have a name picked for a girl I absolutely am in love with it and think it will fit into our family beautifully. But DH and DC all seem to dislike it so it seems like it will not be the one.

For a boy I have not given it any thought if at 20weeks I find out its a boy I will start thinking about boys names then. To be honest boys names don't float my boat and when we had our son I said my DH could choose. And he chose a lovely name from the bible 'Micah'.

I am trying to get into the excitement of it all but to be honest I feel quite low at the thought of having another baby. I didn't feel like this when we decided to have another and I was over excited when we started trying and got a positive. I hope it's just that the HG has taken my joy away as I don't want to end up with PND. Hopefully as I start to feel better I will also find my joy again.

I do have flickers of excitement about scan etc but it does not last Sad

actually after a quick google search it looks like you're having the injection as you're rhesus negative... but I'm rhesus positive I believe - I'll be able to ask the midwife next week anyway, just thought I'd come across someone with similar story to mine but I don't think so - sorry!

Shropshiremummy2b · 13/08/2013 11:23

Bugsy I was supposed to book my 20wkscan after my 12wk but forgot so I just called and booked the following week. I booked my 16wk with the doctors directly and it's ON FRIDAY!!! Woop. Never been do excited about peeling in a bottle and having another blood test!

laura0007 · 13/08/2013 11:24

Bugsy mine will be Isla for a girl or Leo for a boy. I've loved both of those names forever just slightly gutted they are more popular than I thought Hmm

laura0007 · 13/08/2013 11:25

And my 16 week appt is on Thursday which I booked by ringing my midwife after my dating scan and my 20 week scan was booked at my last scan

laura if you think Farquar and Araminta are 'close'?

Joking. But I do quite like Araminta. She'd probably get nicknamed toothpaste or extra strong.

laura I love leo - I will be a very happy lady if that's our final choice Smile

ch1134 · 13/08/2013 11:39

sorry to have confused you more! The CW thing is quite rare and I'm only just finding out about it so got excited thinking someone else had it - your situation is more common and easier to remedy!

It's important that we know my husband's blood type as it will determine baby's, and whether or not my blood will fight it...
It seems I skipped the bit you mentioned 'build up antibodies that could affect having another child'. It's my 1st pregnancy so they don't know how, but I've got the antibodies now...
So from what I've gathered so far my blood will be monitored throughout and depending on antibody levels we may need extra scans to see how baby is coping, and may need early delivery... but risk rises each time.
Didn't want to worry you... it's very uncommon and your situation can just be remedied with the jab.
Thanks very much for the reply though, I appreciate it!

Shropshiremummy2b · 13/08/2013 11:41

Ps laura those are lovely names x

laura0007 · 13/08/2013 11:52

Thanks sunflowered and Shropshire Grin one good thing about being a single mummy is that I don't have to argue with my dp about baby names I can call it whatever I like!

I'm loving Farquar Shropshire... Didn't realise you were THAT posh?!?Wink

LovesToBake · 13/08/2013 11:54

Laura we just discussed Leo the other day too, I love it! Isla is beautiful as well, although we know two toddlers called Isla already so probably wouldn't use it. We have a girl's name we've loved for years but much less sorted for a boy's name, so going to try and forget about it until the 20w scan when hopefully we'll discover it's a girl and we won't have to give names another thought!
