The offer is on for two weeks and mine can be used up til Feb which is handy as I don't plan on still being pregnant in March.
Good luck to everyone with 12 week scans.

Worrying is not silly, worrying is normal (and never stops, once the baby is out they just give you new stuff to worry about!).

I find the most popular baby name lists a bit strange and I think they should be done by region rather than nationally. DD has the most popular girls name for last few years (Amelia) which DH and I loved for years, before we even had children. I didn't know it was the most popular name until after she was born and named but there are no other Amelias where we live and even amongst my friends who live in the nearest city there are very few Amelias. I've had comments about how unusual the name is! Yet my cousin who lives elsewhere in the UK is surrounded by baby Amelias.

Shropshire prenatal aqua sounds fab! I might have a look around where I am and see if there's something like that...love swimming!

Misskatamari I was so nervous before the class but what I lack in flexibility, I made up for in lack of baby bump tipping me off balance Smile. Having said that, some of the ladies that were 38 weeks+ were seriously good...I'm thinking if I start now, I'll be the yoga boss by the time I'm ready to give birth...or at least be able to touch my toes!!

I might have missed this discussion, but is anyone thinking about having a home birth? I wasn't, but in the last week or so I've started to give it some serious thought...Would be great to hear anyone's experiences?

Bearfrills · 13/08/2013 09:20

Do you think they'll ever replace the standard scans as a routine medical test?

Probably once the technology moves onto the next level (3D holographic projections?) and the 2d scanning machines become obsolete they'll be replaced by the 3d ones.

My hospital does 3d scanning but only where there's a problem or an issue. My cousins baby was in a strange position and they were concerned there was a problem with her face so they did a 3d scan to get a better look. They also sometimes do 3d scans as a 'thank you' for taking part in studies or surveys.

My mam was telling me how they didn't do scans when she was pregnant with me and that when she was having her next baby they were only offered if you were high risk. When my aunt was pregnant back then they were worried her baby wasn't growing well when she was about midway through so they did an X-ray (!) to check.

12+4 today and I have cracked out the maternity jeans. I was in my normal jeans until 20 weeks last time Blush. My belly is mostly bloat I think (hard up top, squishy below) but I just can't wear waistbands at the moment.

I'm hoping to start aquanatal classes on a Weds evening but dh is going to be away for 3 days a week for the next 6 weeks so might have to go to a weekend class instead. Cardiff midwifery have teamed up with the council and have "bump into action" ante and post natal exercise classes. Most of them are at daft time (school run, crèche not open etc...) but they have at least put aquanatal on the weekend

home I think there are a couple of us planning hb - might be on the last thread (the threads are moving too quick!). I had one for my first birth and asked the mw for "same again please" (quick and textbook). I think there are some homebirth support threads on the childbirth board.

Good gosh bear - an X-ray?!! Times have changed haven't they!

I'm so glad we get scans now, it's amazing to see and so good to put your mind at rest.

Homeby - there have been some really lovely reassuring birth stores on here and although I was not interested in a home birth at first I am now considering it. I'm going to do hypnobirthing and I want a water birth if possible and originally thought midwife led unit. The one near me is supposed to be lovely but I need to go and have a look round. Depending on the likelihood of a water birth being possible there I will potentially look more into a home birth with a birthing pool and be sloshing around in my living room scaring the cats! My only concern is if anything goes wrong but our nearest hospital is only about 15 mins away (traffic permitting!). Definitely considering it though, it's just very daunting as its baby number 1 I have no idea at all what to expect. Are you considering one?

Lol champagne - I where we're there with our dopplers at home princess Kate had a 3D scan machine by the sofa!

Timpani · 13/08/2013 09:44

MissK I have a sola for DS1 and can't fault it! :)

amicus great news and clever baby!

bear you can find the regional lists on the ONS website. :)

misskatamari · 13/08/2013 09:44

Sorry that sentence made only partial sense! Blaming baby brain and bleurghness! God help me when I have to teach in September!

Somanychanges · 13/08/2013 09:45

I am so sick of eating the same things. The only tree things I can manage when I am not sick is cereal, soup and chicken and roast potatoes. Ok so it's better than how I was before when all I could eat was rice cakes. But once you have eaten it over and over especially the cereal as sometimes that's all I can eat, it gets very boring.

I tried eating something different yesterday and projectile vomited. It was not a pretty site, luckily I had legged it to the toilet straight away.

Sorry that was my little moan just having a sick day and feeling sorry for myself. Sad

Oooh that's good to know timpani! That's three real life people who have told me they're good now which puts my mind at rest. Just so many "the wheels fall off" reviews I don't wanna get it and be like "duh, should have listened!" I'm hoping its just bit very representative as I often think if you have a bad experience of something you are more likely to post about it online than if its good so there are probably waaaay more people who love it than fault it. At Trafford centre tomorrow so will see if mamas and papas will let me try fitting it in the boot!

I'm so happy for the ladies with positive scans. My next scan on Friday week can't come soon enough! We'll then be able to make the announcement finally (and be able to moan about my sickness to someone else Smile).

Aargh I have been feeling so rough this week ConfusedAngrySad. Last week I think I even had a day without any sickness! But this week nothing is staying down. I am constantly nauseous. Then I get hunger pangs for literally a few minutes and if I don't manage to eat in that instant, then it's a rush to the loo. The constant puking is hurting my ears and some high pitched sounds (esp DD's voice) are really bad (cue DD crying her head off yesterday and this morning and me screaming at her to stop).

Re hereditary symptoms - my mum really suffered badly with me (DD2) - she lost 12kg in the first 2 months of pregnancy (granted she was overweight to start with). I had almost no nausea with DD (I think I puked as much during the whole pregancy as I do this time round in a single day) and had put on over 2kg in the first weeks. This time I've been constantly nauseous and sick since 4 weeks and have lost 2kg rather than gained.

I just hope to see the end to this nausea soon. My sympaties are with those that are struggling too somehow Flowers. Let's hope we start enjoying this soon.

misskatamari · 13/08/2013 10:07

Sorry you guys are feeling rough too. It's nice to know I'm not alone tho if you know what I mean! Trying to eat some strawberries now as hopefully the vitamins will help! Maybe by next thread we'll all be properly blooming!

Shropshiremummy2b · 13/08/2013 10:14

laura no, but totes loving those suggestions! Will put them to DH ce soir!!!!

laura0007 · 13/08/2013 10:19

Ha.. Bet I was close though! Wink

ChocoFrog · 13/08/2013 10:21

Congrats amicus, that's brilliant news and a big relief I'm sure.

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts. Ankle is slowly improving although I'm feeling rough this morning too. Which isn't good as I can't exactly rush to the loo with a broken ankle! My DH suggested a bucket. How lovely.

On buggies, first time round we went to Kiddicare superstore in Peterborough and it scared the hell out of me. One huge floor of buggies of every shape and size. Very daunting. We ended up with a Britax 3 wheeler for DS which we will be using again. I loved it but did do lots of walking outside of towns. Was quite bulky to have in and out of the boot but it suited us so not a problem. They don't make the same one anymore but have others.

Good luck to all with scans. My next one is 11th September, which doesn't seem too far away now. Quite exciting!

bugsyburge · 13/08/2013 10:42

wow amicus thats amazing news!!! well done baby amicus.

can I ask a question about 16week appt & 20week scans? did yours come through the post or did you make them manually? Im 14week on Thursday but had no mention of scans/appts etc

lyndsey90 · 13/08/2013 10:44

My 20 week scan was booked when u went for my 12 week scan and my next midwife appointment is around 20w too which was booked when I has my booking appointment

misskatamari · 13/08/2013 10:48

My 20 week scan was booked at 12 week one and had to book my own mw one after I'd got my "proper" dates from that scan Smile

bugsyburge · 13/08/2013 10:48
