212 I hope it's not labryinthitis, it's horrible, I had it for 7 weeks and couldn't work / walk / do anything! Felt like you were badly drunk, room would spin whenever you stood up... If it is, you really need to take it easy, but in meantime, get travel sickness tablets as that helped a lot!

Well I woke up at 8 needing the toilet but thought I would try and wait and go back to sleep... That was quickly put paid to when my nose started pouring with blood! So got up to find a tiny strip of toilet roll in the en-suite toilet. Agh! So attempting to put clothes on one handed, whilst holding tiny bit of toilet roll to my nose with the other one (suppose its practice for carrying baby about and trying to so things) to head downstairs to bathroom, to find no toilet roll there and having to go downstairs again to cloakroom toilet! How annoying is my oh, his one job yesterday was to put the toilet rolls out!

Well and truly awake now, so thinking what can I do now!

I have a TMi question - can anyone recommend something to help with pooing? Blush

I still can't eat fruit with out being sick, even fruit based cereal has me running to be sick, fruit flavour sweets, fruit juice, anything fruity. This is now having a knock on effect and I haven't pooped in almost a week. As a consequence, when I've finally gone for one this morning, I think I've broken my bottom. Pain, bleeding, the lot.

I can't do that for the next 5-6 months.

What can I take to keep things from getting hard and bunged up?

Bearfrills senokot is safe in pregnancy and worked for me

misskatamari · 12/08/2013 09:21

212 that sounds horrible - I hope the gp can help get it sorted and that it's just something simple like low bp.

Bear - I was the same a few weeks ago and it was awful! Was scared to poo! I tried prune juice which helped (needs watering down tho and to be really cold!) however if that's a no go get some senokot - awesome! You take some at night and in the morning have a softer poo Grin I've also been having activia yoghurts and bran flakes which have helped (something to try when you're feeling a bit better maybe) xxx

sunflowered · 12/08/2013 09:26

bear I had a few, ahem, problems when I was an unhealthy student and one of the things the gp recommended was drinking loads of water to soften things up even if it's still moving slowly. Easier said than done though with sickness and constant peeing already - maybe senocot is the better way forward.

sunflowered · 12/08/2013 09:37

Just thought - don't want to sound like I'm rudely suggesting you're unhealthy bear - when I say I was an unhealthy student that was because I'd voluntarily lived without fruit, veg or any other form of vitamins and fibre for some time... Which quickly led to a few problems.

Somanychanges · 12/08/2013 09:45

Sorry to hear some of you are not well (hips, dizziness).

bear I have been taking lactalose it's disgusting but does help. I don't go for 2 weeks because of the meds I am taking for HG and when I finally did I felt like I actually gave birth, was not pleasant. I now have hemeroids. Sad

Now I take lactalose morning and evening and although it is not back to normal it is better than before.

I am also suffering at night having to get up for a wee and then not being able to get back to sleep. Last night at 1am I was feeling so sick because of my empty stomach I has to go downstairs and have some crackers.

I had my first good day yesterday so far. I managed not to be sick and felt ok most of the day except tea time. I managed to go to church, take my monkeys to the park and go on a family bike ride. So hope I am not going to pay for it today.

Scan on Wed I can't wait.

12+1 and I have no idea what the sex is but I felt movements yesterday so it must be a wriggler. Will let you know how it is on scan.

misskatamari · 12/08/2013 09:46

Gosh did any of you first timers have any idea how many horrid things pregnancy brings along with it? I was so not prepared for this barrage of symptoms I've never had before! I'm sure I must have heard people moan about it before but never really connected in my brain who it would actually feel to be sick all the time/constipated/have heart burn/be weeing nonstop/farting all the time (just me? Lol!)

gnittinggnome · 12/08/2013 09:57

Thank God I'm not the only one suffering from poop issues! I thought something was seriously wrong at this blasted convention all weekend - severe pain - called the MW and went to the delivery suite on their advice, to be told it's almost certainly constipation! And I drink masses of water every day. Am going to try the "fight with food" approach first, then reach for the meds if it's still going on. I've bought a box of flax seeds and plan to grind them onto foods - apparently they are very effective.

jazzcat28 · 12/08/2013 09:57

212 sounds awful, I suggest seeing a doctor today if you can. A friend of mine who is about 16 wks had labryinthitis and was in hospital for it last week. She's a GP so if she ended up there I guess it's worth making a fuss over!

bear I've had similar issues... I've got Activia yoghurts with me at work today to try and help things along. Plus a large bottle of water on my desk to keep hydrated.

We've shared the news to the entire family and friends now. Loving the feeling of it not being a secret any more. Got to figure out how to inform my project team this week - it's not something that will come up easily in conversation so will need to do an announcement of some sort.

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 10:13

Don't be worried about senokot folks - its not meds like normal laxatives. It's just a herbal supplement that actually works! Senna, charcoal and rhubarb I think?

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 10:15

...but if you're anti concentrate/pill-form try taking senna and rhubarb I guess! Maybe avoid charcoal though!

212VIP · 12/08/2013 10:19

Yup. Labrynthitis for me causing vertigo. Been to the doctors first thing.
Feel AWFUL.
Got some drugs which won't help with the infection but should tell my brain to trust my eyes rather than my ears in regard to balance.
Dear god I hope it works soon.

sunflowered · 12/08/2013 10:38

bare I've not had baby related dreams but dh has - he woke up in a panic because his dream baby wouldn't sleep and asked if it would really be that bad...

Glad you got seen so quickly 212 but sorry to hear it's not something with an immediate fix. Hope the drugs help to settle things down.

jazzcat28 · 12/08/2013 11:04

haha sunflowered if that's his worst nightmare I think you need to prep him a bit more!

212 hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

ChocoFrog · 12/08/2013 11:18

Feeling sorry for myself this morning. I have a suspected broken ankle after falling in the garden last Thursday playing cricket with my 3yo DS! Stupid I know... Sad Suspected only because they can't do x-ray with being pregnant and aren't happy to put a cast on due to higher risk of DVT when pregnant. So just on crutches and trying to keep weight off it. Not easy to do when you have a 3yo to look after. It hurts like bu**ery and is a lovely black bruised colour.

Just feel very, very silly Blush

Aw 212 I really feel for you, I have never felt so bad as when I had it ANSI wasn't pregnant then! Just take it easy and don't assume you are better when you finally can walk about the house, fresh air made mine worse!

CubanoHabana · 12/08/2013 11:23

Choco that's horrendous! Thought they could X-ray particularly as its further away for tummyjust prefer not to.

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 11:25

Ouch chocofrog and 212 - sending lots of sympathy! Midwife said I had to have two days of paracetamol (!) and then she would be able to refer me to an antenatal physio. I'm not moving for the next two days. I don't care if I get bedsores.

vix206 · 12/08/2013 11:25

212VIP I'm so sorry you have labrynthitis, I hope the meds kick in soon Flowers

Girls, the reason I had such a terrible labour with DS was that I had an impacted bowel caused by constipation. I suffer from IBS anyway and so I am used to being constipated, therefore I didn't really think much of it when I got very constipated during pregnancy. I had very low iron too so was on iron tablets which made it even worse.

When I went in to be induced I told the midwife I hadn't been to the toilet for 2 weeks, she had a feel and said she could feel a lot of 'stool' (cringe) in my bowel but not to worry because it would all come out during labour. Well, it didn't. DS couldn't progress past the blockage and the pain of it was excruciating. It took 10 hours before they actually listened to me and I was then given an enema. This cleared the blockage and DS was born, followed by me losing 2 litres of blood in 20 seconds due to the strain put on my uterus during that 10 hours.

So all I am saying is, make sure that you do whatever you can to keep regular and if you find you are really blocked up when it comes to the end of pregnancy, talk to the midwife as they can give you a glycerin suppository to use at home which will prevent the above situation. That is what I am doing this time.

Sorry for all the talk of constipation etc. but I wouldn't wish my labour on my worst enemy and it frustrates me that it was all caused by something as simple as severe constipation.
