New thread and ever hopeful as we move into second trimester that we'll all feel wonderful soon...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bearfrills · 11/08/2013 21:35

DS was nicknamed Bear, which became his middle name.

DD was Peanut so her middle name is a character from Peanuts.

This one has no nickname yet, poor little thing.

barebranches · 11/08/2013 21:41

we nick named baby Jasper (name DH liked but i vetoed) and refer to it as he... but im thinking its a girl because it was sleepy and hardly moved at the scan.
loving the other nicknames!

Shropshiremummy2b · 11/08/2013 21:44

Am I being unreasonable to feel a little bit sick when people call it bump?

My best friend keeps saying 'bump and I are off shopping' and I'm thinking 'does bump have any fucking option?' Oh and the worst was when she said 'bump will be three months when your baby's born', NO, YOUR CHILD will be three months you freak, not your BUMP!!

Rant over.

heidihole · 11/08/2013 21:50

Oh my goodness you ladies chat so much! These threads are going so fast. Really interesting reading everyones gender predictions! We have a DS already and I'm already dreading the "sympathy" if its another boy and the "delight" of the 'perfect' one of each if its a girl. We genuinely have no preference.

I'm actually thinking if its a boy it'll be easier because I wont have to face all that pink princess crap that gets foisted onto baby girls!

Loving the nicknames too for the babys (especially Bob!) we don't really have one yet! Has everyone publically announced the baby So far i'm 14 weeks and only parents and siblings know as well as my best friend.

Bearfrills · 11/08/2013 21:57

I've done the public announcement this weekend, over Facebook (cringe ... ) but the only people I have on my FB are family/friends and my privacy settings are the highest they can be. It was easier and cheaper to post it on there than it was to individually text/phone everyone! I've had two scans, 9wks and 12wks, and I was getting a bit sick of avoiding the subject and biting my tongue and all that sort of skirting around. People were starting to guess and a couple of the people I did tell seemed to 'forget' it was still a secret (conveniently) and were openly discussing it in front of people who didn't know.

misskatamari · 11/08/2013 21:58

I know we're a chatting bunch heidi.

We have sort if announced it. Close family and close friends know and close friends at work. We've not put anything on Facebook tho and haven't made it public knowledge at work yet either. I've told family some family today who I don't see often but only because they are visiting and I felt I should mention it. So sort of announced but not common knowledge I think I'd say ours is.

littlestgirlguide · 11/08/2013 21:58

DD was nicknamed Chickpea by one of my Guides before she was born. It was nice to have something to refer to her as, rather than 'it' which feels a bit impersonal. Everyone called her that, and I wondered if it would stick after she was born, but when the guides met her they started calling her Mole (because her head felt soft, they said) and I have called her Pud or Pudding ever since.

I have to admit I'm not keen on the 'bump' nickname either, a bit bland as so Many people use it. I am generally a fairly ranty sort of person anyway, my list of topics is fairly long so I will add this!

shropshire I can't help but try and work out who you are by things youve said.... Work in the town centre, selling expensive art... Bet I've walked past you on Pride Hill at least twice :-) I also work in the town centre, in a very well known public office I hope you never have to visit!

misskatamari · 11/08/2013 22:00

I feel abit uncomfortable putting it on fb yet. I have super high privacy and people who I'm not close to on limited profile but I get a bit funny about people knowing my personal business so will probably leave it off until atleast after 20 week scan. Ill just continue to post pictures if my cat in funny poses instead!

pettyprudence · 11/08/2013 22:08

I have told family. close friends, and on friday I broke the news at work. I have one more boss to tell. In two mind about fb this time (I did last time). My fb is also set to super private and I only have real friends/family on there. Some of my pg friends have announced on there, some haven't....
I might do it as I actually find it really weird and awkward to tell people face to face. Its not something that slips in to conversation easily so you kind of have to make it a bit of an announcement, which with just general friends/acquaintances feels a bit much!

212VIP · 11/08/2013 22:09

What is the stats thread?

Wow - there's a lot to catch up on at the end of the weekend. Will have to delve into the famous thread tomorrow when I'm more awake.

I'm thinking boy for some reason. DH's family is quite boy-heavy. it's going to be the first grandchild for my parents and dh's, so it's going to be spoilt rotten whether it's a boy or a girl. (it doen't have a name yet - just It)

heidi We're waiting until our scan at 14 weeks before going properly public but close family know already.

DH has just been discussing my frequent peeing with his mother on the phone. Trying to explain that when she asks how things are going he doesn't need to go into that level of detail with her!!

CubanoHabana · 11/08/2013 22:57

Just spent I don't know how long on the wine thread and then the asda T. rex one which has been linked to it (near end of wine post)... Wow is all I can say!

We had already told parents and couple of close friends but announced to rest of family Thursday night and today. Completely agree with petty about it having to be an 'announcement' as its kinda hard to just slip into the conversation! We haven't done Facebook as I want to be Able to tell my head teacher and not have one of my colleagues say anything before I have a chance and I have a few people on Facebook who might let something slip. Have asked people not to comment on our Facebook about it unless we specifically comment first.

We want a nickname as I'm not overly keen on calling it bump but struggling for something that feels right iykwim? Needs to be something unisex!

Milkandtwo · 11/08/2013 23:05

Our nickname changes weekly dependent on size. This week it's pear. (not so cute, but hey)

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 02:27

Damn. My frequent loo trips were bad for my quality of sleep before. Now add terrible pelvic pain when moving, especially trying to lever in and out of bad. It wakes you right up like a b^*?ard and takes about an hour to get to sleep. Then moments later I wake up again needing the loo! Argh.

sunflowered · 12/08/2013 05:46

I'm with you on the pelvic pain milk - the thought of rolling over, climbing out of bed and down the stairs to the loo last night made me try to cross my legs (had to cave in before too long though). At the moment it seems to ease off during the night and isn't as bad in the morning, but thinking of going to the gp soonish to ask for some physio - apparently that should make a difference? Though if the physio referral takes as long as the scan referral to sort out it could be a sore second trimester.

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 07:36

Ahh almost zero sleep. Every time I moved in my sleep I woke right up. Had a bit of a weep around 5 am and ordered one of these which might help - www.hooglii.co.uk/
Calling midwife in a few hours to ask for a physio referral as still can't walk more than a few very slow and careful steps and the stairs take me about 10 minutes to navigate!
I'm so lucky that I work from home.

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 07:38

Sorry you're having problems too sunflowered. If there's a delay for the referral I'll go straight to the physio to book but I'm lucky I can afford to do that, I know that's not an option for everyone.

212VIP · 12/08/2013 07:57

Anyone around this morning?
Have been feeling slightly wobbly / light headed for a few days but its got massively worse in the night.
Woke up feeling so dizzy that I thought someone was actually turning me over in bed in the dark. Just lay very still and must have dozed off again.
Then sitting up in bed this morning it was like someone had turned the room upside down.
My vision just turned upside down.
I feel quite peculiar. Waiting for the doctor up open so I can call.
Any ideas what it might be?

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 08:14

Oh dear 212... I know dizziness is common. It might be low blood sugar or blood pressure? Hope it's one of those and quickly and easily resolved for you - let us know how you get on. I'm also waiting for the midwives to start work. I'd prefer to go straight to one of them than my GP as I guess their knowledge is more specialist? Not sure if that's the right way to proceed? I lost faith my GP for muscular skeletal stuff when he failed to diagnose my DH with whiplash when it was really obvious. I know self-diagnosers are really annoying but he had it confirmed by several doctors subsequently and it really shouldn't have been missed.

sunflowered · 12/08/2013 08:19

212 can't offer any suggestions but hope the dr can sort you out quickly - that sounds horrible. Was going to suggest low blood pressure but not sure it can do that to your vision.

Milk your pelvic pain sounds a lot worse than mine - hope the midwife can help quickly.

Milkandtwo · 12/08/2013 08:23

Thanks love! At least I have no commute, no DC's to
run after and it doesn't hurt when I don't move so I know life could be a lot worse! I'm quite good at immobility Wink

vix206 · 12/08/2013 08:26

211 it sounds like you have labyrinthitis. Hopefully the gp will see you quickly and get you on meds. It's something to do with the inner ear I think.

vix206 · 12/08/2013 08:26

212 sorry. iPhone fail!!

Thisisfreakingmeout · 12/08/2013 08:39

Another non-sleeper checking in. 4 loo trips a night is standard now. I am trudging to work in my too tight work trousers feeling dazed.

212 - that sounds horrible. Take it easy. Hope the dr sorts it.
