New thread and ever hopeful as we move into second trimester that we'll all feel wonderful soon...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Littleen · 11/08/2013 17:12

I'm not in England, just moved to Norway (where I am from), and here you don't get scan until late, unless you are at high risk for something! Really frustrating, as I am one of those who really wants to check it's okay just in case.

mrscookie78 · 11/08/2013 17:31

we wanted a buggy that was lightweight to push and steer and had to be a three Wheeler. It is bulky and heavy, we have the mamas and papas 03sport. I do love it, im going to leave buggy looking to later this year depending how things go this week.

im ok zazou, how do u feel about your higher statistics?

I tried a doppler with ds and couldn't find a heartbeat so gave up, I wasn't going to stress myself out over it. Grin

Bearfrills · 11/08/2013 17:51

I know it's a bit dishonest Littleen but could you not go to the GP or MW and lay it on a bit thick about sleepless nights, unable to relax, at the point where it's disrupting your day-to-day, etc. and see if they could listen in with a Doppler at the very least? My cousin wasn't offered a 12wk scan with her first (living abroad at the time), she went to her doctor and fibbed that she had bleeding and pain and was referred for a scan. I'd be scared to do that in case I jinxed myself (silly, I know) but maybe if you explain how you're feeling they'd at least reassure you. Hopefully you'll feel some wiggles soon though and that'll help :)

Re: carseats and lie flat seats. I had a lie flat seat for DS and DD when they were newborns which I used for long trips, like if I knew I'd be out all day with baby in the pushchair. But for shorter trips I used to just use the carseat clipped to the frame. I had/have a MaxiCosi one with a newborn pad thingie that makes the seat really shallow and combined with the angle it sits at on the P&T frame it is very almost flat. I used that for nipping into town and stuff as at that point I'd never go more than 2hrs without stopping for a rest anyway so baby was out of the carseat whenever we stopped either for a feed or a cuddle or a change while we had coffee/lunch/a sit down. We'll probably do the same again.

Got my 20wk scan on 4th October and we're going to start buying bits after that. I think it's a boy, based purely on my 12wk scan - it was all over the place just like DS was while DD never moved in any of her scans.

For those with other DC, can I ask do you DC have a gender preference? 3yo DS is adamant he wants another sister and has told me this morning that the baby can't come live here if its a boy and that he won't love it.

Sassy20 · 11/08/2013 17:58

Bear - my dd is not really old enough to understand but when I asked her if she'd rather have a baby brother or sister she did say sister! All I know for sure is that she'll be a bossy older sister! Smile

misskatamari · 11/08/2013 18:16

Awww if scans are anything to go by mine will be a boy too as it was wriggling everywhere. I felt crap today too and had had a bath so DH told me I'm having a boy because boys hate baths! We do have more boy names we like but I would like a girl first - so I know I'm definitely getting one if that makes sense! Happy either way tho tbh. Will find out soon enough I guess Grin

Littleen I really feel for you, can't believe how long you have to wait I finally see your baby! I ended up getting a private one at 9 weeks as couldn't bear waiting any longer so understand how frustrated you must be feeling. Do you have any midwife appointments sooner where they could listen to the heart beat?

vix206 · 11/08/2013 18:19

Bearfrills, I'd love a girl so I have one of each but DS really wants a little brother. Obviously I won't mind if its another boy, I love boys and it will mean there's a lot less to buy!!

marzipanned · 11/08/2013 18:20

Bear you're another one supporting my friend's theory re babies moving at scans then!

If it's true I think Champagne and I are expecting daughters and pretty much everyone else is expecting a son?!

tinypolkadot · 11/08/2013 18:23

I've managed a small milestone today, I cooked a proper meal and ate all my small portion! Very pleased with myself Grin

champagne not sure I should be admitting I do this, but it does help relieve uti discomfort.....weeing in the bath. Worth a try if u have pain, it always helps me Blush I must point out I would never do that as part of my normal bathing routine!!

Milkandtwo · 11/08/2013 18:30

Uh oh. I knew being symptom free until now would bite me in the arse some day. Went for a long walk today as I've done zero exercise since I found out I was preggers (used to do circus aerials for fitness but that's a bit dangerous when up the duffers!) and I started getting pains at the very top of my left leg by my fanjo. I had climbed a steep hill and down again and thought it was some muscle insertion (?!) but I'm not great with anatomy! After getting increasingly difficult to climb stairs or walk more than a couple of steps I'm now lying down and have discovered I can't lift my left leg at all. Not even a degree. Googled it (so wise) and I think it might be SPD? Slightly worried now! Anyone who's done this pregnancy lark before got any experience of this?

jazzcat28 · 11/08/2013 18:33

Got my New Look order through and very pleased with it all but worried that it fits now with only a little bit of room for growth. The jeans will be ok but the tops I probably needed the next size up. For £95 I got 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of trainers, a pack of 3 vest tops, 2 t-shirts and 2 blouses. So quite good value really.

vix206 · 11/08/2013 18:59

Marzipanned if the theory is true then I would be expecting a girl because the baby barely moved during the scan.

misskatamari · 11/08/2013 19:23

Oh no milkandtwo that sounds horrible. I hope you're okay. My friend has SPD in both her pregnancies and ended up off work on crutches - but it only got bad when she was much further along. Don't know if that is normal but hopefully you've just pulled something and it isn't SPD. Have you had any other aches etc before now? I would expect SPD to come on more slowly - however could be wrong as I don't know too much about it. Maybe give the EPU a call and see what they say and see your doctor tomorrow if no better x

DawnOfTheDee · 11/08/2013 19:25

I've no idea (or preference) as whether this one's a boy or girl. However, saw my inlaws yesterday and MIL pipes up with "I think life is a lot more interesting if you have one of each. There's just so much you miss out on when you have two the same." Shock

Riiiiiiiight.....well MIL, there's feck all I can do about it now is there...better keep my fx for a boy or it's a boring life for us! What the actual fuck.. Confused

I answered with I'd be thrilled if DC2 is a boy or a girl and anyway you never know exactly what you're going to get. Maybe (horror of horrors) I'll have a girl who likes football....or...or.... a boy who couldn't give a rat's ass about robots or dinosaurs.

I am having an individual. Not a 'gender'. I really hate all that pink for girls, blue for boys crap and MIL knows this.

And....breathe

Milkandtwo · 11/08/2013 19:29

My GP is a bit crap so I thought I'd go straight to a ante natal physio and see what they say? I've had some gip with my lower back (feeling like it needs to click) but that's been more annoying than painful. This is pretty bad though. Had hot bath and DH just put bio freeze on it but that burnt like hellfire and I hurriedly wiped it off (with a sock as that's all that's in reach and I currently can't get up!) Well I was joking about bedpans yesterday so maybe I asked for it! It's not too bad when I'm immobile though so... every cloud and that.

Thingymajigs · 11/08/2013 19:30

I must be having a super girly girl then because my baby wouldn't even move from a face down position for the occasion. Grin Bit weird if this is a girl now because I can only picture another boy and ds2 has nicknamed him 'Bob' during the pregnancy until we can decide on a name.
Trying to pack for a holiday when you get bigger by the day is really tricky. I'm glad its sort of warm enough for dresses because I'm struggling with jeans atm. Hope my swimming costume still fits. Confused

littlestgirlguide · 11/08/2013 19:53

Dawn I have two grown up stepdaughters from DH's first marriage. If you didn't know otherwise, and believed in stereotypes, you would thing they were a garland a boy. The older one is the pinkest, fluffiest, fake tan/fake nails, very made up, mini skirts and stilettos, fashion graduate you can imagine, doubled, with hair extensions. Honestly, she's like something off TOWIE. Lovely though. The younger one is a painter and decorator by trade, plays in a ladies football team, lives in a ponytail and builder's trousers, and is equally lovely. Personally I think DH just makes girls and this will be daughter number 4!

laura0007 · 11/08/2013 19:56

Lol thingy at least it's not just me with a name for the bump! Mine is known as Hubert Grin
It was also laid face down at the scan practicing its swimming techniques!

lyndsey90 · 11/08/2013 20:12

My little bugger was sock on for my scan, sleeping on It's side. I had to wriggle all over to get it to move on It's back, to which it decided to flop back onto its side and go back to sleep >.< such a lazy moo! Also it was either sticking its middle finger at me. Or shoving fingers in its mush :)

Thingymajigs · 11/08/2013 20:13

Ha! Love Hubert. Grin Lets hope nicknames don't stick though.

Bearfrills · 11/08/2013 20:19

I have one of each and I myself am one of four children. I can honestly say that personality dictated by gender is a load of old shite rubbish and that regardless of how many children you have and their genders you will never have two the same.

They have their own personalities and I know that this one will too, boy or girl it will be different to DS and DD. Because DD appears so quiet and "good" while DS in comparison is so boisterous and "naughty" I've had lots of comments about how I'd better hope its a girl and what will I do if I "end up with another one of those", meaning DS.

I don't care what I have, I'd quite like one that sleeps! DS and DD had one very important thing in common, they both slept all night from day dot and I'd like to make it three out of three in that respect :o

vix206 · 11/08/2013 20:21

Oh I'd love a sleeper. DS woke hourly for first 7 months and I was on my knees with terrible depression because of it Hmm

marzipanned · 11/08/2013 20:21

Oops sorry vix and thingy too for the girls! It will be interesting to see if there is any truth in it! A few weeks ago I was hoping for a girl and lately I've been hoping for a boy...but I don't think I care, really. We have got a boy's name picked out though and are really struggling with a girl's name!

Dawn what a ridiculous thing for your MIL to come out with! It's lovely to have one of each and it's equally lovely to have two of the same.

Littlest given what a tomboy I am, I think if I do have a daughter she will end up like your younger stepdaughter!

Milk hopefully it's better in the morning, sometimes these things do sort themselves out, but maybe put some ice on tonight as well before going to bed?

Bearfrills · 11/08/2013 20:28

I didn't do anything special, I think they were just lazy. They used to have a feed in the early evening and go to sleep during it, then wake around 11pm-midnight for another feed, then sleep until 5-6am. 11pm-6am is my usual nights sleep.

A friend of mine reckons I'm well overdue for a 'real' baby though :o

laura0007 · 11/08/2013 20:31

Lyndsey it was probably giving you the middle finger for waking it up! Sounds like me first thing in the morning

Shropshiremummy2b · 11/08/2013 21:13

I think we should add the girl/boy thing to our stats thread..... It would be amazing to see if it comes true!

My baby is currently called little seaweed (our surname sounds a bit like seaweed!!), and if the wriggling thing is true its a boy! I'm quite a girly girl but am big into country persuits so would genuinely not mind.

EDD 1/2/14 DS1 Boy?!
