rock chick lol. Was Bert Baxter not also addicted to beetroot? (cue intrusive pickled beetroot cravings all round Wink

Charingcrossbun · 09/08/2013 18:59

Ladies, am I too late to join?
I'm 11weeks today - EDD 1stMarch although not had dating scan yet so that could change. 1st pregnancy all v exciting!
Am not naming to bump but had a friend who referred to hers as isambard - a very underused name these days!

FrankelInFoal · 09/08/2013 19:02

Hurrah for good scannage Pram Grin

We've not discussed names properly yet, just in passing. We're quite traditional so nothing hippy from us Wink All we have agreed on is a middle name - DH's blood grandfather was killed in WWII and his grandmother remarried so DH has his "step" grandfather's surname, so we thought it would be nice to use his "real" surname as a middle name.

emza78 · 09/08/2013 19:38

Love our midwife group, they're like the old fashioned "call the midwife" apparently, do all appointments at home and you're guaranteed one out of the 6 will be at the birth, then come to see u every day afterwards, bit different from last time where I did t even meet my midwife till 10mins before baby was out!

Anyone know what those rope things are called that hang from the ceiling that u pull on during labour? I've seen them on obem and really think it would help me (and save oh's hands from being crippled!)

lumpylumps · 09/08/2013 19:51

Now I understand the tickers!!! Never even heard of them!! I just found out it useful cos there's anywhere up to 4 weeks between some of us and that can make a difference in terms of symptoms, appts etc!!!

Had a bit of a wobble this week. How am I going to cope with 3 children??? Can we afford it?? Will it change what I already have too much??

LyraSilvertongue · 09/08/2013 20:10

I've barely thought about names do far but whatever it is it has to work in Turkish and English, which is quite restrictive. If its a boy he will have DP's late father's name for a middle name. DP's father died when he was a young teenager so this is very important to him. The poor baby will also have a very difficult, unpronounceable Turkish surname, poor thing, but there's not much I can do about that.

Slippersandacuppa · 09/08/2013 20:12

Hello all - haven't seen you for ages. Summer holidays are not the long, boring times I remember from my youth. Crazy busy man! Not sure how the squids manage to get through the day without a nap. I'm in pieces by 11.

So sorry to hear about the losses some have experienced - I hope you're getting all the support you need and are back on a bus as soon as you want to be.

Names - we are rubbish! Waited three days to name one of ours (post-birth, ''twas great suspense-wise!) and the one child named the last one so I'm not sure what'll happen this time. We love old names too! Mabel, Maud, Lydia, Ernest. Not all at the same time obviously.

Hope there's plenty of resting (ha!) and not too much sicking.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/08/2013 20:12

Oh and welcome Charingcrossbun. Isambard is a delightful name Wink

Coolhand · 09/08/2013 20:18

Lumpy I think we all have those wobbles, I think the same about 2. I'm sure it'll be difficult at the start but you adjust to a new 'normal'. I only found out in recent yrs that my wee bro (the 3rd child) was a 'surprise' and mum cried when she discovered she was pregnant with him. Now, he's the absolute apple of her eye, she dotes on him the most and said he was such a blessing in disguise.

So just discovered I've put on 8lbs - oops! I work in teaching so always tend to put on weight in summer hols anyway and was half a stone underweight to start with, so not the end of the world. But if I keep going at this rate it'll be a pretty hefty weight gain - I think last time I put on around 2 stone (just under) so I've made a pretty strong start this time!

IceNoSlice · 09/08/2013 20:19

Welcome CharingCrossBun

So tonight I have been scoffing salt and vinegar crisps dunked in Philadelphia cream cheese. Craving or just plain greedy?

SoSurprised · 09/08/2013 20:32

apprenticemamma Lol that sounds just like me. Poor DP has to put up with my sickness and hysterical crying. I feel so bad for him.

Charingcrossbun welcome to the thread :) I am 11 weeks on Sunday

IceNoSlice I have been having cheese and onion crisps too and now feeling sick again [pukey face]

PramQueen1971 · 09/08/2013 20:34

Welcome to the newbies. Why does 11 wks sound so far along?!

Emza, I know the rope you mean! She sat on some kind of milking stool with her husband behind her and she was screaming and yanking on that rope like a crazed campanologist. If the hozzie won't let you have one just tear up their bed sheets like the Hulk, tie them into a rope and sling it round the nearest midwife's neck until you're swinging off her Smile

I've just noticed my name on the maternity book (the one we get during the booking-in session) is wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. The forename is misspelt and the surname is completely different Hmm

PramQueen1971 · 09/08/2013 20:34

Ice, I would attest that's just plain filth.

ChocChaffinch · 09/08/2013 21:09

LumpyLumps

I started thinking about having 3!!! eek. I must be mad. our 2 are so close in age and get on well; is numero tres going to be left out?? argh! too late now anyway Wink

ChocChaffinch · 09/08/2013 21:10

ps I'm puking like a sick parrot. Is anyone else puking? Vommed twice today, whilst cleaning teeth in am and then before a latish post-work tea at MacDonalds Mmmmm I've managed to keep that down

TotalShock · 09/08/2013 21:37

I ve had constant and I mean from the moment I wake to when I go to bed nausea followed with indigestion and heartburn then a bit more nausea.. But was actually sick for the first time today which gave me hope I might feel better after. Nope. Not at all.

The worse thing is I have to keep grazing all day to try and keep it to the minimum and feel absolutely massive and I aren't small to start with!!

I have a proper jelly belly - think of Santa Ho Ho hoing and his belly going up and down.... Oh dear

When I am supposed to be glowing!!!!????

Hope everyone has a good weekend x

SoSurprised · 09/08/2013 21:40

ChocChaffinch- I have been puking quite a lot too. Got some medicine from the doc and the vomiting hasn't returned.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/08/2013 21:46

Damn, broke a tooth. Good job NHS dentistry is free during pregnancy.

PiratesMam · 09/08/2013 21:52

choc and lumpy yeah I'm adopting a head-in-sand approach about this being our 3rd. eg - our car won't fit that many kids. Oh well!

re: sickness - my main problem is (sorry TMI) dry retching. I'm like a cat with hair balls.

Pram my last pregnancy notes said I was Black African. I'm White Welsh. Every visit to the hossie they'd look at me oddly and say "this says you're-" and I'd go helpfully, "black African, I know." (pause) "I'm not."

PiratesMam · 09/08/2013 21:53

Lyra ouch, how did you do that?

rosyryan · 09/08/2013 21:58

Total, I'm with you sister

Coolhand · 09/08/2013 22:00

Emza don't know what those ropes are called but they had them in all of the rooms in the Home from Home (MLU) at the last hospital I gave birth in - didn't have them in any of the rooms in the consultant-led unit!

I'm high risk this time, as VBAC and they won't let me use the Home from Home, so probably no access to the rope. Will just have to get my husband to bring one instead and attach it to the end of the bed Hmm

LyraSilvertongue · 09/08/2013 22:18

Pirate, chewing a Haribo and suddenly it had crunchy bits in it. Not painful though. Yet another thing to add to my list of stuff to get sorted. Sigh.

PramQueen1971 · 09/08/2013 22:42

Pirate, I've just read your nationality error to th'usband and he choked on his nuts (and no, I'm not being childish).

Lyra, poor lamb Sad

apprenticemamma · 09/08/2013 23:07

dh just announced that he 'can't cope' and his life is' out of his control'. In relation to his business but also that he should have 'sorted out business before having a baby'. He has been sorting out his business since we met eight years ago. cue Angry Angry from me. Suspect I am being unreasonable but just want to feel protected and contained at the moment...not like oh can't cope. Now I feel like an unsympathetic bitch Sad Sad Sad
