The one where hopefully we are feeling less nauseous and knackered (although we develop hippo hands and feet due to the heat!), we are entering or are in our second trimester (phew!), we continue with 12 week scans and test results (ekkk!), we have 16 week midwife appointments and hear the heartbeat (OMG - aw!), we potentially see the beginnings of bumps and feel the first flutters of movement (wow!) and the 20 week scan for some is just around the corner! Grin

Oh and we try to improve our diets after surviving on one food group during the first trimester!!! Wink

Bring it on thread 7!!!

(pod hope I did you proud)!

Hello fellow January ladies! Hoping I can join you! I am 17+2 but due to peri natal depression and nausea was to terrified to say hello until now.
I have been reading all of your posts and I am feeling a bit less like a whale in a dress now I know I'm not the only one with a bump!

TobyLerone · 07/08/2013 17:13

Agree about the bedside manner. And I'm sorry you're not feeling more reassured, mythree :( Please try not to worry about the measurement, though. There is a reason they don't measure until later on and that reason would be because it's so notoriously inaccurate. When I was having DD, the MW sent me for a scan at 34 weeks because I was measuring very small (only about 31/32cm). DD was fine, born at 42 weeks and 7lb 2oz. Perfectly normal.

The more I read MN (and sometimes this thread in particular!), the more grateful I am that my DH is not a dick and my community MWs are lovely. I really ought to count my blessings more often, given the crap other people have to put up with.

Hi, kitten, and welcome :o

Mythreeknights · 07/08/2013 17:16

Ha ha, toby you are so right - you just made me laugh (so much so that a bit of snot flew out of my nose).

TobyLerone · 07/08/2013 17:17

Gross, but I'm glad, in a really weird way :o

Mythreeknights · 07/08/2013 17:19

No really, you put a smile on my face, thanks. I'm just glad no-one saw it happen Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 07/08/2013 17:25

mythree thank you too - I do know I'll look back and think 'you daft cow, why did you wish this massive bump on yourself', but I'm struggling to be logical right now Grin. I am also going to start leaving on time, and if there's something to do, TOUGH TITS.
As for your 16 wk appt, I hear you. Mine was longer, but still shit. No rapport, no 'how are you', just wee, forms filling in, results of blood tests and same thing about 'not being policy' to listen for hb. I was Angry as well. It's not fun, feeling like they sort of think you're an imposter - I came away thinking 'sorry I took up your time'. I have a good friend whose ma is a 'Neighbourhood Midwife' (independent), and I've been in touch with her, and she said NHS midwives just don't have the time anymore, it's basically - if you get to 20wks, they start to consider you as a 'real' pg person, before then they just go through the routine.

MrsV glad I'm not the only bloodhound. I can't bear that stale booze smell, it's like rotting fruit! Naice. Where did you get your Doppler, can I ask? I'm caving, and getting one - all this stress isn't good for me/bean, right, so it's an essential expense, yes Grin?

MrsA my mat jeans do that - I am a classy hoiker too. At least they are COMFY though, yes?

sultana Which doppler do you have? I am def getting one. You've sold me (do you get a commission Grin?). Yyyyy to the emotional rollercoaster. I am usually pretty up and down anyway, but this is so unpredictable and sudden.

MrsG I hate that 'oh, why not go for a swim' type suggestion. BECAUSE I SAID I WAS TIRED YOU KNOBBRAIN is usually my response. Have a lovely nap and take it easy. One of my friends who has two already said that the best advice, beyond all the eat/don't eat, do/don't do etc was: sleep now, while you can.

enormouse that sounds crappy. I hate it when hospitals use that 'oh, didn't you know that?' tone, as if we all work there and understand the system. I said to my GP at my my (botched!) 16 week appt 'you do know I've never been pregnant before, right?' - he was Hmm, but I think it's worth saying. Not everyone knows how to do things!

kitten hello! Welcome - hope you're feeling better.

toby and mythree you two just made me laugh. We are like a virtuous circle. Or summat.
Thank you lovely lot, I am back to being bouncing and happy. And DH is going to have to listen to me tonight.

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 17:35

That made me retch and laugh at the same time mythree! Grin Really sorry about your midwife.... I had the exact same experience at my booking appointment in January this year. Mw made hardly any eye contact, was clearly in a rush to get home for her dinner as she kept complaining how hungry she was, didnt ask me how I was feeling and simply listed off a list of symptoms that are common in a dusinterested was and then shoved me out the door! This time thankfully she has retired, although I am still to meet my permanent mw - hopefully will next week and am praying she is nice! Am too much of a wuss to say anything to her if she isnt....Blush I really hope u caught her on a bad day and your next appointment goes better. I wasnt measured either and only had bp, dipstick and hb, but the main difference was this one gave a shit (or acted like she did)....

I too toby feel very lucky to have a good DH! I feel extremely lucky my DH isnt a big drinker - he can go out and have a few but he feels his days of getting totally smashed are behind him. That was the biggest thing I hated about my ex! It really drove a wedge between us and used to ruin nights out and weekends because I would have to keep my wits about me so I could get us home and then put up with his hangover the following day! Grrrr! Makes me very grateful for DH.

humpty bless ya! I have just started taking the *I can only do what I can, there is only one of me" attitude to work. Still working my ass off, but forcing myself not to stress about all the things I am not getting done. Definitely time for u to put yourself first for a change! It feels weird but actually quite nice!

This is the doppler I have: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001NWDUE2 Its the one my mate recommended and I have not been disapopointed. Grin

Hi kitten nice to have you aboard!

enormouse that really sounds like a shambles! How unbelievably frustrating!!!

mrsg I can just imagine your response to doing some exercise when you are feeling faint! Oh dear! Bless him with such a helpful suggestion! At least he redeemed himself with the awesome nap suggestion! Wink

Hi bunt! Sorry you are feeling so rough and you potentially wont be tandeming.... Glad you have a few things to look forward to. Grin

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 17:50

toby hows things going with you and your fibroids? Are they causing you any pain?

OP posts:
Penny31 · 07/08/2013 17:56

I'm sorry that some have you had rubbish 16 week appointments. I promise you that your 20 week scan will make up for it!

I'm ready for my first aqua aerobics class and I'm scared! It isn't specifically for pregnant ladies so I hope it's ok. I've put my tankini in and my bump is huge! I'm a bit ebarrassed!

Penny31 · 07/08/2013 17:56

Embarrassed is what I meant

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 17:57

Ekkk penny good luck! Let us know how you get on! Grin

enormouse · 07/08/2013 18:14

The most irritating thing about this thalassemia malarkey is that my entire family were tested years ago when DBro had his twins, I have been having blood tests for years in an area with a high south east Asian population. So naturally it would have been flagged up should I be a carrier.

But obviously I need to be tested again despite there being no risk of DP (white, Irish) being a carrier and us having a healthy toddler (it was brought up before when I was pg with him! Cue many many blood tests which said I wasn't a carrier). But I may suddenly have developed it over the last year and a half or so.

Gosh, it felt good to rant about that, it's been boiling my piss for ages. Smile

Hi kitten Smile

Thanks for the Doppler link sultana and hope aqua aerobics goes well penny

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 18:23

Boiling your piss enormouse! That cracked me up!!!

There is an antenatal aqua class near me penny but its on a thursday morning (so would have to change my working hours) & it is followed by an hours chat session that is midwife led and I cant figure out if that sounds like something useful or my idea of hell.....I can imagine it being quite cliquey, although I could be totally wrong. May see if I get the guts to try it one week....

OP posts:
Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 18:34

By the way, I use the doppler with biooil. I actually found it better and less messy than ultrasound gel....

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 07/08/2013 19:02

Thanks for asking, sultana. The fibroids are causing no problems other than making me huge. I can feel 2 of them from the outside and they feel bigger than they did, which is a bit of a worry. I can feel the one bottom/front/centre and it makes me silently resent it because it doesn't seem to be shrinking or moving Angry Not only will it mean ELCS, but also a higher, larger, possibly vertical cut. Luckily my bikini days were already behind me Wink

They'll measure them again when I have my 20-week scan and I have a consultant appointment next month, so they'll probably be able to tell me more then.

Good luck, Penny! I'm going to take my nephew swimming on Saturday and I'll have to shoehorn myself into my ordinary swimming costume. That'll be fun!

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 19:17

I am glad toby they at least arent causing you pain, although they are obviously causing you distress! What a pain! Have you got your 20 week booked? Poor bubs sharing the space with such horrible bed mates!

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 07/08/2013 19:25

Stupid hospital haven't sent me my 20wk date yet. Apparently they 'know I'm waiting for one' and it'll be sent 'in due course'.

I feel a bit guilty that the baby will end up a bit squashed, but they're going to keep a close eye to make sure it's got enough room and if it doesn't, they'll look at the pros and cons of 'in' vs 'out'.

Sultanajo · 07/08/2013 19:40

Stupid hospital! Grrrr! Its no fun just waiting for a date, especially as if you cant make that date they then get arsey!

No need for you to feel guilty tobes. They will be keeping a close eye on things and am sure they will have dealt with this plenty before, so will make sure bubs has enough room. Plus bubs wont know they arent meant to be in there! Wink

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 07/08/2013 19:49

Hahahaha! When I called to chase it up, the woman told me that it could be very short notice and that she "strongly advised that I make sure I turn up" Shock How rude!

And I have The Rage with the NCT. They've started taking payments for the antenatal classes, so I emailed the other day because I couldn't find a confirmation email and couldn't remember the dates of the classes we'd booked. It turns out they've changed the venue (to one 10 miles away), the dates (to a month later than the original course) and the times (to ones we can't make), and they 'thought they'd informed everyone already'.
So now we can't go on the course at all. RAAAAAGE!

MrsGSR · 07/08/2013 19:50

Mythree I second what others have said about being supprised you were measured, my midwife stapled a growth chat into my notes but told me they don't use it until 28 weeks.

Welcome kitten!

enormouse that sounds really annoying!

Penny31 · 07/08/2013 20:20

I missed the flipping class! The timetable says 6.30 but when I got there at 6.20 it had already started!

I did some lengths instead. That's he first bit of proper exercise I've done in 20 weeks!

The only stroke I can do is breast stroke, is that ok to do? I'd heard you shouldn't when pregnant....
