I do, however, avoid anything that might contain listera as I'm fairly sure I've never had listeriosis.

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 31/07/2013 17:47

I'd recommend avoiding anything that can give you salmonella. I had that from some pâté as a child and was off school for 12 weeks

Envy

I was not well!

LyraSilvertongue · 31/07/2013 17:59

12 weeks?! The longest I was off school was when I had measles and had to lie in a darkened room for two weeks. The only food I could eat was cucumber.

SoSurprised · 31/07/2013 18:05

Hi everyone can I join please?
Have had such a surprise. Was feeling unwell for the past 2 weeks. I thought it was some indigestion. After I went to the doctor he thought I might be pregnant. I have pcos and haven't had a period for 5 months so pregnancy was the farthest thing from my mind. Turns out I am 9 weeks!!!

Will have a dating scan later but based on today I should be due first week of March.
It's my first pregnancy and have been TTC for 6 years!

Sorry for all the exclamation points but I am so surprised.

firsttimekat · 31/07/2013 19:25

Sorry to hear people are struggling, not doing too bad here, mainly just tired.

Got my appointment through for my dating scan, it's the 7th so don't have long to wait. Really looking forward to it and hope it will make things a bit more real for DH.

I told my manager this week and turns out she is pg too! She is a bit further ahead than us but means she is being really understanding. Also told PIL, they were great.

LyraSilvertongue · 31/07/2013 19:44

SoSurprised, welcome and congratulation! I'm 9 weeks and a few days so we'll be due around the same time Smile

PramelaAndherson · 31/07/2013 20:35

Welcome, Sosurprised, what a wonderful surprise indeed!

FirstTime, you are having your dating/12 wk scan on the 7th??

LittleMachine · 31/07/2013 20:41

Ah Sosurprised that's lovely! Congratulations!

SoSurprised · 31/07/2013 20:41

Thanks LyraSilvertongue and PramelaAndherson Grin it is just so out of the blue, still sinking in.

Lyra it will be great to have someone going through same stages.

SoSurprised · 31/07/2013 20:47

Thanks LittleMachine

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 20:48

Welcome SoSuprised that really is a great surprise

Slightly freaking out - DP is out babysitting for friends, and I've just got the most horrible cramps I'm hoping it's just indigestion but can't help but worry.

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 20:50

Hank for the advice all re the sushi, think I'll stick to established chains and avoid some of the back ally place I've been to in the past. But I have such a craving for it.

I'm staying away from steak altogether, I eat my steak blue, and anything else is just wrong

Coolhand · 31/07/2013 20:52

Sosurprised congrats - how wonderful! Finding out later also means you can skip a little bit of the first trimester stress.

thecakeisalie · 31/07/2013 20:57

Congrats SoSurprised! What a fantastic surprise for you!

I'm not sure how much of the food guidelines to follow really. I love runny eggs and next week for my birthday were going to a Japanese restaurant so I'm debating about the sushi and whether to have my meat cooked through. It would be such a pity to have teppanyaki but have to have well cooked beef! Having said that I had a stomach bug in my second pregnancy and it knocked me for six. I was ill for about 2 weeks even though it was only a 24hr bug so not sure I want to risk food poisoning.

I plucked up the courage to tell my Mum tonight when she rang. It was such a relief, I was going to wait until she comes to visit next week so I could tell her face to face but glad I didn't wait. I was a little worried how she'd react to our news - silly really considering this is my 3rd baby! She was really pleased for us and now I feel like a huge weight has lifted.

PiratesMam · 31/07/2013 21:40

sosurprised how wonderful, congrats! Grin

After being very retchy all day yesterday, today I've felt fine all day. Has given me that annoying where-have-the-symptoms-gone paranoia! Tummy popping out already and as I'm thin, anyone who knows me would notice if I wore something tight, so god knows how I'll get away with this for another 4 weeks... Shock

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 31/07/2013 21:53

Welcome aboard sosuprised just as we near the end of our second thread of nattering a worrying

Beccadugs · 31/07/2013 22:13

Thanks everyone for your support this morning. I think I was more upset about the blasé way she spoke to me. Rather than not being able to have another sc an.

I now have no brown gunk, and am cautiously optimistic, as symptoms remain strong!

Re: sushi I am also desperate for it! Glad to here it might be OK!!

SoSurprised · 31/07/2013 22:15

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

All the dos and donts of food are getting me worried. as i didnt knw till now and have been eating everything. only started folic acid today.

I told everyone in the family yesterday.
I was thinking of telling work after my dating/12 week scan. Does that seem like the right time?

firsttimekat · 31/07/2013 22:17

pram it's my dating scan, no idea of dates so Doc referred me straight for a scan to try and work things out. I think as a min by the scan i will be 8 and a bit weeks so should be something to see, but potentially up to another 6 weeks further along so really looking forward to finding out where I am!

I haven't had a booking in appt yet tho and don't have one scheduled, I don't really don't understand how this works. Doc sort of implied she was doing that at my last appointment but it only took 10mins so don't think it matches up to what other people are saying...

LyraSilvertongue · 31/07/2013 23:34

SoSurprised, most people wait till after they've seen everything is ok at the 12-week scan but it's entirely up to you. I've told a few people since I've seen the heartbeat on a scan at 8 weeks.

Teddybear4 · 01/08/2013 07:03

Welcome SoSurprised. I had a friend who found out about her DC2 at 9 weeks - I feel slightly jealous you both miss out on so much of the boring and worrying old first tri!

Hope sludge stays away Becca.

I am rubbish with the food guidelines. I ate tons of sushi with DD as I really craved it. I read to stick with main brands so stuck to Waitrose and Itsu. This time I don't have easy access to either but I'd eat tons again. I've also eaten runny eggs because the kids were having them and they looked so good. I think as long as stuff is in date and reliably sourced it should be ok (touches wood). We're off to France in 2 weeks which will be a real test of my resistance. Anyone know if you can eat cooked goats cheese?

I have MIL visiting tomorrow for 5 days. I suspect she will be the first parent to know about DC3. Is it wrong that I feel like a naughty child about the whole thing? I feel embarrassed telling our parents and we are responsible (nearer 40 than) 30 something adults!

HotCrossPun · 01/08/2013 07:05

I can't believe we are nearly finished our second thread already!

I'm starting to get really excited now. The last 4 weeks have been so nerve racking, but I'm actually starting to believe that I might have a real live baby at the end of this.

Its a bit terrifying though. I hope all of you who already have DCs are ready for all the questions I have! Grin

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 01/08/2013 07:08

I am so tired! Didn't fall asleep until after 3 and got woken by DH effing and blinding because the rabbits have escaped. 3 hours sleep. I feel bloody marvellous today.

Hope you all have great days!!

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 01/08/2013 07:09

hotcrosspun the newborn stage is the easy bit Grin

Rockchick1984 · 01/08/2013 07:34

Teddy you can eat goats cheese as long as its not got a rind on it, doesn't have to be cooked :)

Soured I know the feeling - could happily spend the day in bed today - sadly DS has other ideas, but never mind!
