Becca Oh hun, that is truly rubbish! Unfortunately, EPUs sometimes push back really hard on the 'I just want to know what is going on'. It is awful hanging in limbo, I know how it feels - I had this scenario during my first mc. Continued bleeding, but because they had found a heartbeat at the first scan, they refused to scan me again.

How many weeks are? Would you consider doing a private scan for reassurance? That's what I did in the end, I just couldn't bear the waiting any longer.

Got my haematologist consultant appointment later today. Don't really expect anything that I don't know yet, it's really more of a formality.

Still haven't filled in the forms for my booking appointment tomorrow, thinking if I might be able to use the ones I filled out before my 2nd mc...? I still have them, so if I change the date of the LMP and add the mc to the medical history, they should be usable, shouldn't they? [lazy emoticon]

April13 · 31/07/2013 10:34

Becca thats not good.....could you just go to A&E?

April13 · 31/07/2013 10:40

Thanks LittleMachine, doesn't sound like you had the best experience either :(
I am beginning to doubt what the EPU can tell/do for me, but I will have to wait and see. The sonographer told me that my uterus is extremely retroverted and it was really difficult to see anything last night. I had to empty my pre-filled bladder as it was squashing everything, then it was litererally only a few seconds we saw the baby. She put the lights on (lol) so we could see the pulsation of the heart and that was it. She then spent about 10 mins talking (and showing me) about the empty sac and told me she'd give me a report about it so I had something to gove to my MW etc.
Sorry.....just braindumping here :(

PramelaAndherson · 31/07/2013 10:40

Becca, are you still only wiping snotty red/brown sludge? Any severe cramping or red blood? If not, the EPU will not do a reassurance scan simply because you have nothing to worry about. But we do worry and your only solution here is to fork out for a private scan. I paid £100 for my pre-IVF one.

LittleMachine · 31/07/2013 10:41

Becca you poor thing Sad

Think I'd go for a private scan too, you're going through enough with your sickness without all this worry too. Thinking of you xxx

Writerwannabe83 · 31/07/2013 10:50

Hi Becca -sorry you have been left in limbo, if only they could see what damage their casual approach can do to a woman's emotional state Smile

I was going to suggest the same as everyone else and advise you pay for a private scan - I'm not sure I could last 4 weeks with the constant worry x x

Rockchick1984 · 31/07/2013 11:02

Becca I would be in bits in your situation, however try to hang on a bit before having a private scan. Am I right in thinking you had a scan recently which showed everything was fine? The problem with a scan is that its literally a snapshot that tells you if things are ok at that moment in time - last pregnancy I had a scan at 8 weeks and all was fine, 12 week scan showed baby had died at just over 8 weeks (no bleeding, cramps or anything) so I know that if you had a scan today and the bleeding continues you would feel no happier. Could you book a scan for a week or so? It would only be reassurance, as nothing you do will make a difference to the outcome, however I know how important reassurance is!

PramelaAndherson · 31/07/2013 11:20

Rock, did your symptoms disappear at 8 wks when you had the mmc? This is very scary.

Rockchick1984 · 31/07/2013 11:35

Pram I was still getting all my symptoms (actually suffered with worse morning sickness in that pregnancy than when I had DS) apparently the baby had stopped growing, but my body didn't realise so was still producing all the hormones etc as though everything was fine. Was a hell of a shock as you can imagine, I'd thought that if things went wrong that I would know Sad Its very rare though, apparently something like 1% of people experience a missed miscarriage, and obviously chances of anything going wrong after seeing a heartbeat are low, so I was just the unfortunate 0.0001% or whatever that it happens to!

PramelaAndherson · 31/07/2013 11:51

I had an mmc last year, too, at eleven week scan, but I hadn't had any early ones. Looking back I wish I'd had a six-week scan as they told me mine was a blighted ovum where a baby had never developed at all. I've now had two scans at 6 & 8 weeks and I have another one at 10+3.

Rockchick1984 · 31/07/2013 12:06

It's amazing the different attitudes of EPUs isn't it? I was given a scan at 7 weeks then at 9 weeks, however I know other people who have been told they won't scan early unless 3 miscarriages, or heavy bleeding with cramps!

Is anyone else suffering badly with dizziness? I had it with DS but can't remember what eased it (if anything)!

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 12:11

Becca I'm completely shocked at the way your EPU is treating you, they should be looking for complications and providing some reassurance. Is there another EPU near to you that you could use? Otherwise I second the thought of going private just to put your mind at rest one way or the other

When I MC'd 2 months ago, I kept having the symptoms, but something felt off. It felt like the cruelest thing nature could do, was take my baby away, but still let my body think it was there.

JustCallMeBaldrick · 31/07/2013 12:49

Rockchick I seem to be dizzy a lot of the time, which I don't remember from previous pgs. It's vaguely reminiscent of gas and air Grin, but not great when looking after 3 DCs!

PramelaAndherson · 31/07/2013 13:44

Wuxiapian, are you okay? We haven't heard from you in a while.

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 31/07/2013 13:56

Becca, so sorry the EPU won't scan you. I hope you are reassured by the posts on here. It is surprising just how much blood you can lose and still have a healthy bean in there

X

IceNoSlice · 31/07/2013 13:56

Rock I get dizzy too. Just need to not stand up too fast. And let the spinning stop before I try to walk!! Let me know if you find anything that eases it.

JustCallMeBaldrick · 31/07/2013 14:09

Right, I've finally given in to chain-eating cream crackers. The low-carbing's going to have to go on hold for a while!

charley33 · 31/07/2013 14:18

Hello all - Not been on for a few days - Even though I have been off work time seems to have flown by!!

Reading up on the posts - So sorry to hear of those who have lost their little beans heres hoping they catch a later (succesful) bus!

Hello to all the newbies!!

Had my private scan on Monday - All was well - Best £80 I spent in terms of peace of mind (least until my NHS 12 week one on the 2nd Sept)!!

Still feeling nauseous though thankfully not being sick, boobs still sore and incredibly tired (esp has had a rough night with DD last night).

Like some others because I found out so early (3+2 I think) feels like I have already been pregnant for ages (was lovely telling my Mum yesterday though and nice to have someone to talk to face to face with DH working away a lot during the week).

Forgot who mentioned the peppermint tea but I need to remember to add it to my shopping list - Really gone off normal tea big style!!

April13 · 31/07/2013 14:26

Hi All,
Spoke to the EPU. The lady that I spoke with was lovely and has made me an appointment to go in tomorrow, although she has said she thinks everything will be fine. A bit more relaxed now.

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 15:48

Just wondering if any of you had views on eating Sushi while pregnant? Some sites say definitely not, others say as long as it's been frozen before preparation, which all Sushi in UK restaurants have to do to get a food standard rating...

In short I adore sushi and I am suffering serious sushi cravings - but I'm not sure if it's worth risking...

April13 · 31/07/2013 16:16

I love Sushi too, and must admit I have not had it since getting pregnant (but i have had no real notion for it) however, freezing the fish does/will kill the bacteria/parasites thus making it safe to eat :)
I am on the same page as you just now with "dippy" egg yolks.....I have recently learned possibly from this thread? that you can have a "dippy" yolk if your eggs have the lion stamp, cue me running home to see if mine did (they do), but not actually had a dippy egg yet and am totally craving it!

JBrd · 31/07/2013 16:57

April I've been told that all eggs in the UK are pasteurised, so having runny eggs should be fine. I have been 'sampling' raw cake batter quite a lot while baking, and never had any problems.
In any case, the food poisoning that can be caused by eggs is not likely to affect the baby, it'll just make you feel like s**t Grin
But as with everything - when in doubt, leave it out.

MTB I'd be more careful with sushi... Freezing does not kill all bacteria, unfortunately, they can be resistant little buggers. And then there's the mercury issue with some fish.
But this might all be outdated info, as I don't like sushi, I've not made an effort to find out (unlike with the eggs) Smile

My appointment with the haematology consultant went fine, apart from having to wait for aaaggggeesss. I'm to continue with the daily injections, until 20 weeks, when I will have to have 2 injections per day. Oh joy. Apparently, the body metabolises the heparin so much faster in later pregnancy.
But hey, whatever helps, and the injections are really no big deal, in the grand scheme of things, they are my least worry.

Teddybear4 · 31/07/2013 17:12

Hello all

Trying to catch up after a few days away.

April - DS was one of twins but the other vanished. The pregnancy continued as normal. Hope you can try not to worry.

Becca - I would try and get a private scan. My local EPU really weren't helpful with getting me an appointment when I had a bleed 10 days ago and I was glad I had a private one sorted.

So, we've had a very busy few days visiting friends. I'm utterly shattered with no chance to catch up as the kids are off school.... It's making me feel pretty bleurgh too...

I had a private scan just before we went away and all was well. Just the ONE little bean with a HB - double relief as really was worried about getting DCs 3 and 4! Still no date for 12 wk scan. I need to have it before we go on holiday in a couple of weeks as I want to have the nuchal test and I'll be too late when we get back.

Trying to find the motivation to make the kids tea - bleurgh!

IceNoSlice · 31/07/2013 17:32

Teddybear - fish fingers and beans day? Wink

LyraSilvertongue · 31/07/2013 17:44

MTB, I'd go for the sushi if I were you. I love it too and as long as its freshly prepared etc the risk is minimal.

I'm never as careful as I should be in pregnancy and haven't had any problems. While pg with DS1 I developed a taste for oysters and ate them regularly. I also still eat my steak pink. At my age, I'm pretty sure I will have been exposed to toxoplasmosis a long time ago so I'm not worrying about it.
