Tummy cam. You need a full bladder though.

LyraSilvertongue · 30/07/2013 22:33

12-week scans are done abdominally.

Sarahb8990 · 30/07/2013 22:35

Sorry to hear about all the loses on here lately Sad

iv got my booking in appy on 15th aug. i decided to ring and book early as i was told by GP to ring when i was 9 weeks. its a good job i did as that is the earliest appt they had and thats when ill be 8+6!

LyraSilvertongue · 30/07/2013 22:44

My booking in is at the hospital on the 16th. The letter says to allow 1.5 hours! Scan is on the 21st.

Anyone else got their maternity exemption card? Mine's valid till March 2015 Grin

PramelaAndherson · 30/07/2013 22:50

Soured, my midwife stayed two hours when she came to my house on Sunday Shock Th'usband was dying for a fag.

Tracey, if you scroll down the page you'll see instructions on how to do this, this, this and this Also, you can shorten all our names if you like, for example just call me Pram. It will take you yonks if you have to keep addressing souredstoneshasasouredpebble by her full name Wink

Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2013 22:52

I received a letter in the post today to tell me that I have got an appointment at my GPs next Tuesday for the midwife to "Complete my booking forms" - is this the same thing as a Booking In appointment??

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 30/07/2013 22:56

pram noooo everyone should address me by my full name and my full name only Grin

I feel I ought to change my name but I don't think 'carryingcoreytaylorslovechild' is any shorter lol

Coolhand · 30/07/2013 22:57

Sarah it's different in different areas . My booking in appointment is combined with my dating scan and happens at the hospital.

Thanks Pramela - I'm post wobble now and feeling better now I have an actual scan date. Confident I'm feeling my pregnancy symptoms though - had that seasick feeling this afternoon really badly. I haven't had an early scan so until I get to the 15th August there will be some residual anxiety but that's the first trimester for you!

April glad to hear there is one healthy baby developing but still an upsetting time for you. Would contact EPU for advice if you're unsure.

JK10 · 31/07/2013 01:06

april can totally understand why u were feeling so emotional but I guess you just now need to focus your whole attention on the precious little one who is going strong. Hope u ok.

We have a booking app at hosp and scan at a different hosp! midwife never comes to our homes till after the birth unless u request a homebirth, they then come check out the space! It all depends where u live, everywhere does things so different.

IceNoSlice · 31/07/2013 04:12

I've moved county since DS and can defo confirm that they all operate different systems re booking in etc. With DS, we were living in a major city and the first mw appointment was at our home. I got the distinct impression it was a faux social services type 'inspection' to check we weren't druggies or living in filth. Nothing they asked couldn't have been done at the surgery. In my new, more rural county, no home visit.

Tracey HTH means 'hope that helps'. I meant it genuinely but beware, on some mumsnet categories it can be used sarcastically in a passive aggressive way. There is a list of standard definitions if you click the 'getting started' button. Smile

MummyPig24 · 31/07/2013 06:05

My booking in appointment was at the gp surgery. The midwife has a room upstairs. She only works there one day a week though so its not easy to get an appointment with her, you have to book far in advance.

I've got a ton of housework to do this morning. Then I am looking after my friends 2 children. They have had to come home from holiday early as she has found another lump in her breast so she is being seen urgently by the breast cancer team.

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 06:49

Morning all, I only had 2 home visits from the midwives last time round, the first was because I had been in relationship years ago which there was a lot of DV, and they wanted to check out my mental stability. I pointed out that had been 5 years previous so not really an issue, but they insisted and it was really intrusive and horrible to be assessed, by someone who is just ticking boxes and then tallying up your scores. The second was much later on I wa about 7 months and DD stopped moving, it was a Sundy so she came round to check on me. We later learnt that DD alway had a lazy Sunday and would hardly move all day (after several rushed trips to hospital to be monitored) and tbh she still does have lazy Sunday Grin

april I'm glad you've got one healthy baby, but can understand your sadness, I do think its fairly common though - will see I I can find where I read that.

Tracey Welcome, I'll add you to our stats list, may I ask where in the country you are? We have a map with all our general locations on it too [geek]

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 06:52

Linky for April

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 06:53

Found the link ^^

It seems quite common, about 1 in 5 pregnancies. HTH

Rockchick1984 · 31/07/2013 07:39

MummyPig so sorry to hear about your friend, I hope she is ok. If it is breast cancer my ex-MIL went through it while I was living with her - obviously it was an awful time however she was very strong and made a full recovery. Sending lots of positive thoughts to your friend Thanks

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 31/07/2013 08:08

Omg I'm so snappy this morning. I just shouted out to my neighbours to shut up as their voices were going right through me (they have been outside in their garden for an hour and a half now) Blush

I reckon if anyone spoke to me today id be locked up for my responses

MummyPig24 · 31/07/2013 08:28

She got the news on Thursday that it is cancer, this is a second lump in the same breast that she has found. They were planning a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and medication but I reckon it will probably have to be a mastectomy now. Feel so awful for her, her children are so little and she is so healthy and fit.

MummyPig24 · 31/07/2013 08:29

Soured they had been outside since 7am?! It's pouring with rain here. Ds is like a wild animal dancing to Michael Jackson cd. I have cleaned the bathroom and tidied up though. Need to Hoover and mop the kitchen floor. The guinea pigs need cleaning out. Ironing needs doing. My dad is going on the radio at 10 so I want to listen to that too.

stephie101 · 31/07/2013 08:46

Backache constipation kidney pain.... have I been out clubbing last night without knowing....urghhh

April13 · 31/07/2013 09:06

Hi All, thanks for all of the comments :) Icenoslice I know what you meant with your original post, thank you! MTBMummy I will have a wee look at the link, thanks :)
Feeling a bit better today. Have called the EPU and am currently waiting on call back, which should happen within the next four hours. Hopefully they will give me advice and/or reassure me with respect to the other baby.

MTBMummy · 31/07/2013 09:19

MummyPig so sorry to hear about your friend - I do hope that whatever route they take for removal it's the last time your friend has to deal with this

LittleMachine · 31/07/2013 09:50

April I had vanishing twin with my last pregnancy. It did cause some prolonged bleeding. I bled from about weeks 5-12, initially implantation and then it must have been because of the lost twin.
It wasn't until I gave birth that I found out, when they realised the placenta had continued to grow as if I was having twins and was gigantic, and there was part of another cord on there. It wasn't picked up on scans. They also said it was likely that was why I was so very sick - my body thought there were 2 in there.
I'm sure your little one will be fine. I hope the EPU can reassure you.

Beccadugs · 31/07/2013 10:13

I have just spoken to the EPU, and they have, frankly terrified me. Said there is no point coming in for a scan as if I am going to miscarry it won't make any difference. Then spent a lot of time explaining what to do if I bleed heavily. No reassurance, am feeling gutted and very upset. I wanted to make sure that there is still a heartbeat.

Surely the point of a scan would be reassurance for me. My twelve week scan is not for another 4 weeks. What if I have had an MMC, I just have to live through the next four weeks feeling pessimistic. I am quite stressed.

MummyPig24 · 31/07/2013 10:23

MTB thank you. I hope so too. She is so cool about it but she must be terrified really.

We've been to the shop for the long awaited "bubblegum lolly" that ds has been asking for. I'm listening to my dad on the radio while the children colour and play with play doh. It's civilised here at the moment!
