How many questions is too many for one midwife appointment?! I've been writing down stuff I want to ask at my next appointment and the list is really quite long!

Is it silly to be starting to talk about birth options at the 32 week app? The 36 week one just feels a bit late.

babyhmummy01 · 10/06/2013 16:06

I would ask as many as you need Ruck

I have started thinking about birth options, but I don't think that MW's etc are that interested discussing it until 36 weeks from what I understood from the NHS Parentcraft class the other night.

I can't really make any decisions until after I see the anaesthetist at 34 weeks as it will all depend on what pain relief I can have as am majorly allergic to codeine so they need to be careful with me and gas and air may not be allowed due to my asthma :(

JollyShortGiant · 10/06/2013 18:55

I had my last mw appt at 27+5. I next see an HCP at 36 weeks ish and that's a scan and the consultant. Amazing how different care is with your second! I seem to remember having a lot of appointments first time round.

Exam tomorrow. Panicking a little. DS has developed a temperature today. Why am I not surprised?

babyhmummy01 · 10/06/2013 20:06

Oh my life little miss is being a terror today. She is pushing really hard against the bottom of my womb and my bladder and its agony. Struggled to walk round Sainsburys to do food shop this evening, what should have been a fly in and out in 20 mins has taken well over an hour, been.doubled over its so uncomfy. Still got 10 weeks to go and I am hoping she hurries up!
30 + 1 today

babyhmummy01 · 10/06/2013 20:06

jolly good luck for exam xxx

Gonnabmummy · 10/06/2013 22:07

Forgot to tell everyone had my first measurement at last midwife app I know these aren't too accurate was interested to see where he was on graph because I have a fair old bump! Looks like I'm going to give birth to a toddler I nearly fainted when I seen how far up he was! Got next app in two weeks as this one was a little late then one 3 week after that if he's measuring that big for both got to go for another scan :s

babyhmummy01 · 10/06/2013 22:18

Graph? My me just measured my bump and muttered all ok lol. Seeing a diff one on wed cos mine is on a stint at the birth centre so that should be fun...not

LilPeasMama · 10/06/2013 23:47

Hello all!
Just marking my place too
This pregnancy has been uneventful so far which is all good up until I had bloods taken at 28wks, possible antibodies found so more blood taken a week later, I'm O Positive blood group though? Hope it's something and nothing Hmm
Only 4 more weeks left at work as I have lots of annual leave to take before mat leave kicks in. Smile
I have antenatal classes starting in July that I'm looking forward too.
Im still debating whether to buy a brand new or second hand buggy which is causing me a great deal of stress.
We haven't found out the sex but knew what boys name we wanted. Although really struggled to pick a girls name, we have a couple short listed now though.

(29+6) first baby

Gonnabmummy · 11/06/2013 00:26

Babyhmummy it's in my notes has a page printed in for it do yours?
It looks something like this pregnancy.familyeducation.com/prenatal-health-and-nutrition/fetal-growth-and-development/66170.html

RuckAndRoll · 11/06/2013 08:03

We don't have graphs in our either. In fact we get very little in the way of sizes, even on the scan reports. All I know is the tape measure to bump approach is very unreliable. When I was in hospital, apparently my bump grew 4-5cm (4-5 weeks growth) in 3 days!

I'd love to know how babies growth is going, I'm expecting a long baby.

Agony this morning with PGP/SPD, fell in the shower as well, not the best start to the day.

31+2 (this number is getting far too big too quickly!)

FoofFighter · 11/06/2013 08:36

31w today - there are graphs in my notes but they've not been filled in, no idea why though..

Welcome newbies :)

We start ante-natal classes tomorrow afternoon, OH managed to get both sessions off work, I can see he is dreading it haha!

OP posts:
RuckAndRoll · 11/06/2013 09:12

lol foof mine's the same. He's got the time off but I can tell he's scared. I'm sure he won't be the only partner there bricking it!

We start a practical parenting class this week. Sounds silly but it covers the basics, changing, dressing, winding, cord care, first aid, stuff like that. Stuff the NHS won't cover.

FoofFighter · 11/06/2013 10:10

He's had lots of hands on experience with his best mate's two boys so can do all the practical stuff no problems, just the scary labour stuff ;) after his utter panic last week when we had to go in for monitoring at 11pm he has finally conceded that if had bothered to find out more about pregnancy that he wouldn't have been in such a flap - so can now see my point that although he isn't giving birth, he needs to know the stages, what is likely to happen, what can happen if problems arise, because he'll be no use to me if he goes into panic-mode again!!

OP posts:
wavesandsmiles · 11/06/2013 11:05

I've got a graph, it's being filled in off my growth scans. I did have my bump measured once and that was bang on for my dates, but all the scans have the baby as pretty little (9th centile ish) so I don't think the bump measuring is very accurate. But then I have heard of lots of people having low estimated birth weights and producing 9lb + babies!

No antenatal classes here as I am on DC3 and by myself now. However, I am hoping to get to a few relax stretch and breathe classes, and a wise woman workshop on birth prep.

Next scan is a week today - fingers crossed it will all be fine, and I have a full antenatal check on Friday. Crap few days with sickness - have spent most of my time in bed or hugging the toilet. Bleurgh.

33 weeks today, and it dawned on me last night that I am going to be giving birth for real in the not so distant future!

babyhmummy01 · 11/06/2013 12:14

Found the graph but not been filled in lol will ask tomorrow at check up. Tbh my notes live in the car, I never really look at them!

Ruck my parent craft class covered some.bits of cord care although she also.told us some pretty gross things about options for the placenta...smoothie anyone? Yuk!

Having been heavily involved with my godsons as their mum is disabled the actual looking after het bit doesn't scare me, its the actual birth that scares the life out of me. Mind the pain and pressure down there yesterday I was worried she was gonna put in an early appearance.

She had hiccups last night for first time...wow that was bizarre! My tummy was jumping all over the place and I had the first "guess the body part" protruding...based on the kinda triangle shape I am thinking foot but was like that scene in alien!

Gingerbreadpixie · 11/06/2013 14:20

29 weeks today with my first pg. little boy :)

Hi!

RuckAndRoll · 11/06/2013 15:09

foof hope he's been doing his reading then!

Waves lalalala we don't have to give birth for ages yet, do we?! Hope you're feeling even a tiny bit better this afternoon.

Neither DH or I have ever changed a nappy or dressed a baby younger than 6 months. I very familiar with the game of dressing a toddler though!

welcome gingerbread

babyhmummy01 · 11/06/2013 16:33

ruck the nappy thing is harder than it looks! Newborn disposables are loads easier these days cos most have a cut out for the cord so you know which side is the front lol.

Welcome gingerbread

waves shhhhhh am sooooo not mentally ready. Although my mate at work is 3 weeks behind me and was told when went in for sickness review that she gave birth last week....not good cos she will be 6 months max

GaryBuseysTeeth · 11/06/2013 21:05

Welcome Gingerbread..and LilPeas, if you're not 100% on one particular buggy, I'd go for second hand just so you feel less guilty about buying a different one if it doesn't suit you.

Ruck, with DS they asked where I wanted to give birth at my booking in apt (but nothing organised past that until 36wks).
DH had never been socially interactive with a baby before we had DS (if you excuse the children he's dealt with at work) & he managed fine, so I'm sure you'll do alright!!

Jolly, how do you think your exam went? Hope DS got better & didn't keep you up all night.

Saw mw today, nothing exciting to report, although my iron levels are normal for a change, hurrah!

Foof, I still luffs you proper loads for the magnesium recommendation! I had a full nights sleep last night!

31+3, cannot believe how close to 37wks some of you are!

wavesandsmiles · 11/06/2013 21:54

Welcome to newbies Smile

I went for a second hand buggy, partly because I couldn't justify spending the equivalent GDP of a small country on one, and also because I plan to babywear as much as possible, so hopefully won't be using it much. If anything, it will be used to transport shopping whilst baby is in a sling!

Had another crappy day sickness wise, and hoping I'll get to sleep really soon as I just want a break from it. I'm guessing my "trouble free pregnancy" fairy was on holiday when I conceived, so hoping the "easy peasy birth and angelic baby" fairies are armed with lots of magic for when the baby arrives Grin

babyhmummy01 · 11/06/2013 22:12

Aww waves sending hugs xxx I have needed my pills today cos have been so sick yuk.

Another here for second hand buggy, as with waves. Just couldn't justify the expense of a new one

Briarrosy · 11/06/2013 23:30

Lilpeasmama, my 28 week bloods showed up antibodies too, didn't feel ill, though had a very mild cold the week after, but the midwife doesn't really seem bothered. She said antibodies can be up naturally in pregnancy.

Also go for a 2nd hand pram - I've got a bugaboo chameleon for £250 including spare set of the material. My friends who've bought the same pram new love it but say they didn't use it for that long as it's quite bulky to store/put in a car and they switch to a cheap foldable stroller after 8 months or so. Glad I didn't spend £800 when I heard that! The pram is in amazing condition too, and all the fabric washes really well. And I can also sell it for probably nearly the same amount when I'm done with it too, no brainer!

TrixieLulamoon · 12/06/2013 10:19

Welcome Newbies!

Am I the only one that HAS spent the equivalent of a small countries GDP on a pram? Blush. In my defence, I did expect DH to tell me to p* off when I showed him which one I wanted and the price tag. Much to my surprise he agreed and now it's sat in our bedroom!

I do hope I manage to use mine longer than your friend Briarrosy. My cameleon is a special edition and cost a little more. Really hope I get some decent use out of it. Feeling a little unsure now though! But like you said, they do seem to keep their value if you look after them. I saw a version 2 go on ebay for £700 the other week, when the new version 3 is £800 brand new!

Scan tomorrow, YAY! Though I have to see the consultant afterwards which is always an hour long wait in the waiting room.

32+3

RuckAndRoll · 12/06/2013 10:33

Trixie we've bought a brand new one too. I wasn't horrendously expensive though, it was being discontinued (Quinny Speedi), got the buggy, raincovers, foot muff etc for less than £200 and some friends are lending us the carrycot. We're hoping it'll last for any future children as well.
Hope your scan goes well.
