I had terrible braxton hicks today for about an hour and a half. It was honestly so painful I thought I was going into premature labour. Thank god it was just BH. Why am I getting them so painful??

JollyShortGiant · 05/06/2013 09:02

This dropped off TIO.

Just checking in.

RuckAndRoll · 05/06/2013 09:45

Itcame I heard that dehydration can make them worse. Not sure how true it is but it can't be a bad things to try and up fluids?

Gonnabmummy · 05/06/2013 10:24

Had my first BH last night didn't have a clue what was happening, had just had some homemade soup for supper then it happened. I thought I was going to be sick till I felt my bump then realised it was rock hard!

FoofFighter · 05/06/2013 16:14

Bit quiet on here, where is everyone?! I demand an update from you all Wink

All ok here, 30 weeks (yday) just gearing up for Matty leave to start in a week and a half yayyy!! have so had enough of work with one thing and another Hmm Maternity Allowance has been sorted (at £10 more a week than my usual wage eh??!) just need to let them know when I actually stop and arrange for payments to start.

All is bought now for the first three months clothes wise, got the pram (Mothercare Xpedior in blue), baby chair (Fisher Price Studio Rocker) got moses basket, lots of different cloth nappies, dispos for the first couple weeks, all really need now is a cotbed, but have seen some funky coloured ones (red purple etc) so waiting till we know what flavour we have got and will order that in the first few weeks :)

All ready for baby not got pram here as yet but mother has bought/paying off it for us. All I need is things for my hosp bag and for after birth :)

FoofFighter · 05/06/2013 17:07

Oh yes I still need to sort out hosp bag and get some nice new nighties for after. Got only the pads/pants so far!

OP posts:
Boosiehs · 05/06/2013 17:15

Cripes - I've not even thought of the bag yet. Or got a cot. hmmmm.

Perineal massage sounds bizarre lovely. Will ahve to enlighten DH - although he is mega squeamish!

I had my first what I think was BH yesterday morning when getting ready for work. serious cramping tight feeling across the left hand side of the bump. V strange. First thing I said to DH was "if that is BH I am DEFINTELY having an epidural".

wavesandsmiles · 05/06/2013 20:36

From my corner, found out Stbxh is already seeing someone else, and got made redundant today. Meh. Having a sly glass of wine thinking that I'll doubtless throw it up but if I don't, one glass will harm neither me nor the baby.

Due to play a fairly big gig tomorrow night so fingers crossed I'm well enough, I only need an hour and a half off the Hyperemesis!

Baby's hospital bag is packed and mine is nearly there. Sort of. Also have gifts sorted for DS and DD, a new t shirt, a photo album captioned "my baby brother" and a card each.

31+1, next scan in just under a fortnight to check baby's growth again

RuckAndRoll · 06/06/2013 08:30

Waves one glass will definitely not harm you or baby, hope it went down ok. Hope the redundancy package gives you some much needed space to spend with your children and work out where to go next.
Hope the gig goes well Smile

Well from my end, baby appears to have a body part of some sort stuck under my ribs, but only in one specific place. I felt along it last night and there's a huge bruise there.

Doing the Race for Life in just over a week, really beginning to panic about how much pain I'll be in with my back and hips afterwards. Can't back out as I've been getting sponsorship in memory of my Grandad so really want to do it.

30+4

Gonnabmummy · 06/06/2013 09:16

Got our first antenatel class tonight can't wait! Just to meet some new people outside of work and socialise with people in same boat :)

Jadems · 06/06/2013 11:20

Serious nesting kicking in here. Either that or the steroid injections have sent me hyper. Can't stop thinking about all the things that need doing. Have been on a manic clear-the-laundry-basket-mission, and already ironed about 7 work shirts this morning. Really want to clear out drawers and cupboards now. Forcing myself to sit and take five minutes in the garden, before I decide a quick 10k run would be a good idea!

Good luck with your gig tonight waves. Hope the Hyperemesis is better today.

gonnabmummy - Do tell us how your antenatal class goes. I haven't managed to get any in, and looks as though the next available grouping at the end of the month might be too late. Would be good to know what type of stuff happens etc :)

JollyShortGiant · 06/06/2013 12:30

28+0 here

House is a bomb site. Hospital bag has not been thought of. Moses basket and DS's old clothes are still in the attic.

Had a midwife appointment yesterday and the next time I see a HCP will be the end of July.

Roll on the end of June when work quietens down and we go on holiday.

I saw your other thread, waves :( sending you hugs.

RuckAndRoll · 06/06/2013 15:23

Is anyone thinking about using TENS for labour? I'm looking at them and wondering if it's better to hire or buy, and if you need spare pads? Currently I've threatened DH with when I'm done with it, attaching it to his nether regions and boosting when I get a contraction! Strangely enough he doesn't agree.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 06/06/2013 16:28

I used a TENS machine (hired from mothercare) when on early labour with dc1, would definitely recommend it, it's a good distraction if anything.

MrsPennyapple · 06/06/2013 17:36

What Outerspace said, basically, they are a good distraction. I was lucky enough to be given one when my friend no longer needed it, so I will use it again for this one.

I bought pads on ebay, I only had one set. They are super-sticky, so I reckon that even if you took it off to have a bath or something, you could put it on again afterwards with the same pads. Hard to know whether you'd need extras, as you don't know how long you'll be in labour. (Fingers crossed, it'll be all over in about 20 minutes, right?)

I'd check the prices of buying vs hiring. You'll never use it for anything else (except maybe getting your own back on DH), so it depends whether you mind storing it. Of course if you do buy one, it doesn't matter if you buy extra pads and never use them, because you'll have them for next time.

Snufflebabe · 06/06/2013 19:36

Hello,

I'm 30 weeks today - happy days! Have 7 weeks left at work - is anyone else working until quite late?

Bump is getting heavier and more uncomfy. Sleeping is becoming more difficult. I had to get up for the loo 4 times during the night on Tuesday night!

This is our second child, so I've started washing all the neutral baby grows and vests etc. I'll be packing my bag in the next few weeks I think. I've bought maternity pads and the sheets to go on your bed.

I hired a tens machine last time but I was induced at 39 weeks so it was never used.

How are you all going with names?

thekatsatonthematt · 06/06/2013 21:08

Hi all.

32 weeks today. I'm planning on the 22nd July (38 weeks I think) being my last working day, but still haven't been told how much annual leave I need to take pre-maternity so who knows!! tbh I only picked that week as my childminder is on holiday for the following fortnight....

Off on holiday tomorrow. A week near Bakewell with my Mum, dh and ds. We lived in Manchester when first married so will be visiting lots of friends too.

I am sorting a seperate hospital bag to take just in case. Probably wouldn't bother yet otherwise as went 2 days over due date with ds.

Right, must carry on with mamouth ironing pile!

Gonnabmummy · 06/06/2013 21:38

So antenatal class went well as always with firsts everyone was a bit awkward and quiet, really started to come more alive in last half hour after awkward ice breakers really looking forward to next three classes as they have a lot more topics to deal with. :)

RuckAndRoll · 07/06/2013 09:42

Thanks. I think I'll probably end up hiring one. Mothercare looks a good price.

Snuffle we have a boys name sorted, girls name we're avoiding talking about as we just can't get anywhere! Everytime we talk about it we end up bringing back names we cut earlier on. The short list is getting longer. We decided to leave it a few weeks and come back to it with a fresh head.

I'm working until 36 weeks currently. 5 weeks Grin can't wait!

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 07/06/2013 10:14

snuffle I'm working til around 37 weeks....exhausted already and only 29+5.

Think we have our name sorted out...not sure how much I like it though. We loved dd's name as soon as we settled on it, bt this time...I'm not sure...we like it but aren't thrilled about it. Maybe we need to keep thinking.

wavesandsmiles · 07/06/2013 15:16

I have the name sorted, and really do love it. Well, I have a first name sorted anyway. Hospital bags are nearly done now, including gifts for my DCs. I'm finished with work for good - well, until I find a new job which will hopefully be when the baby is around 6 months old, following the redundancy news on Wednesday.

Whooping cough vaccine was administered today whilst I was at hospital for fluids and my PICC line dressing being changed. OUCH. It's a sore one, that's for sure.

Christelle2207 · 07/06/2013 16:10

Our names discussion is a disaster, so much so that we're avoiding discussing it. We will be ok if it's a girl but am convinced it's a boy and we are getting nowhere fast.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 07/06/2013 16:50

What gifts are you all getting your dc? Dc1 will be 21 months when new arrival is born, any suggestions?

Also, anyone else suffering from heartburn? Got it awful today!

wavesandsmiles · 07/06/2013 17:32

My DS is 9, my DD is 7. Getting them a card, a t shirt each saying I'm the big brother/sister, and a photo album entitled "new baby brother" so they have their own one to take photos etc and show off. Have also got them a couple of new books each. May also get them a little toy - lego and moshi monsters most probably given current obsessions.

DS was nearly 18 months old when DD was born. I made sure I had a couple of little cars wrapped up for him, and also got him a big brother card. He also loved playing with the balloons that were sent Smile
