Says 34 on here but that was just first one to come up :)

BabyHMummy · 02/06/2013 16:29

What in earth is this massage thing??

wavesandsmiles · 02/06/2013 16:52

BabyH this is a quick guide to perineal massage:

www.mypregnancymatters.org.uk/welcome/preparing-for-labour/perineal-massage/

muddybloodypuddles · 02/06/2013 17:00

Perineal massage us from 34 weeks as I am booked to see a perineum consultant but couldn't get appt till 36 weeks and she left me a vmail on Friday to give her a ring to go over the perineum massage I can start from 34wks - DS was with me at the time so will ring her back whenever I am in my own - think uts more of a private conversation! I was referred by mw due to trauma down there after having DS...

BabyHMummy · 02/06/2013 20:35

Ohh can see dp loving the idea of that!

MrsPennyapple · 02/06/2013 21:21

Remembering I had numbness at the top of my bump with DD, it is odd isn't it? I don't have it this time around though.

I also used perineal massage last time, there's no way to know for sure if it helped, but was only 2.5hrs from waters breaking to having DD in my arms, and I only had a tiny graze - which was at the front, surprisingly, I had assumed that if there was any tearing etc it would be toward the back.

31 weeks tomorrow. 9 weeks to go! It's just hitting home how close we are now, and how much there is still to do!

RuckAndRoll · 02/06/2013 21:54

I've just mentioned perineal massage to DH... he responded that he would stretch things for me by DTD Hmm think that's a no from him!!

BabyHMummy · 02/06/2013 22:04

Haha dp looked horrified at the mention of this massage thing. Think I will be giving it a miss lol

Stopsittingonyoursister · 02/06/2013 22:37

Hi all, just found you all again!

Perineal massage = a complete no-no from my DH! A similar response to yours, tbh, Ruck!

RememberingMyPFEs · 02/06/2013 22:52

Heh, I explained to DH that torn perineum or episiotomy means many many more weeks with no sex whereas the massage may mean I don't and so heal faster... That was ALL the motivation he needed Wink

RuckAndRoll · 03/06/2013 08:15

remembering I don't think that would convince DH. Think it's worth giving a go until I can't reach any more.

exhausted this morning. Had some really vivid horrible dreams last night so hardly slept.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 03/06/2013 23:45

Hello, can I join? 29+1 pg with dc2 (dd1 is 18 months old).

Have had alot of MS this pg, and been catching any bug and illness going. Feeling huge and uncomfortable already and know from memory it's going to get more uncomfortable over the next 11 weeks.

Think we've settled on a name and in the process of buying a second Han double buggy and a carrier.

RuckAndRoll · 04/06/2013 07:34

welcome itcamefrom Smile

I'm trying to ignore the fact that I'm uncomfy already and it'll only get worse. must be one of the few people wishing for a cold summer!

Jadems · 04/06/2013 07:34

Hello :)

Been lurking for a while (31 + 4), but wanted to ask how everyone's Braxton Hicks were going?

Been having what I thought were Hicks for a few weeks, but then on Sunday abdominal 'tightenings' got so bad that I was having them for about four minutes every ten minutes, from around midday onwards. Ended up at the CLU, and as I couldn't have a fibronectin test straight away (nookie earlier Blush) was put on atosiban and given steroid shots as a precaution. No sign of dilation, but put on CTG monitor and kept on atosiban overnight. Second steroid shot and fibronectin test yesterday. Luckily the fibronectin test came back negative (yay - Smile), but 'tightenings' returned as soon as IV of atosiban removed. Discharged yesterday evening, but don't know really what to expect now. Fairly confident he won't show up in next two weeks (fibronectin test about 99% accurate), but don't know whether to be expecting an early baby now???

Anyone have any experience of this?

BTW - Steroid injections HURT! I'm no wimp - can endure a brazilian wax without murmur, but actually burt straight into tears yesterday morning whilst taking the jab to my thigh.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 04/06/2013 08:47

Has anyone started to pack their hospital bag yet? We still haven't finalised childcare plans for dd for when I'm in labour.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 04/06/2013 08:49

jadems I've started to get pretty strong BH over the last week....tightening of bump, and strong period pain type cramping. Sometimes they can last up to 20 mins, sometimes they go very quickly.

RuckAndRoll · 04/06/2013 09:33

Jadems Scary stuff. Every day baby stays put is a bonus. I've not had any braxton hicks yet that I know of. DM says she never got them with me and DBro either so may not. Although when I was in hospital the other week the trace did pick up tightenings I wasn't feeling.

Itcame I've not started packing but I have written a list of what I want to pack and the stuff still to buy for it. I'm carrying a few essentials with me to work now after having to spend an extra £10 on a taxi home to get my notes when I went in to get checked from work the other week. Just my notes, change of underwear, phone charger. Enough to manage until DH could get there.

Jadems · 04/06/2013 10:20

Itcame Hospital bag, plus separate bag with baby stuff pretty much packed. Just want to wash his things before packing them (panicking now though that they'll be no use if he's early. Only got tiny baby size - with both myself and my partner being small, but will still be too big for a preemie. Have slightly revised my ideas of what I'll need to take though, before Sunday's scare was stupidly critical of mum's who went to hospital too early and spent hours waiting round - had some idea that I'd be able to pop in when baby just crowning and be off home in a couple of hours. Blush Now see that I'm an idiot, and there may be lots of waiting around. So making sure that I've got kindle, chargers and other time killing stuff in there. Also making sure to include juices, snack bars etc - juices DP brought in were a godsend when I didn't want yet another cup of tea being offered. Ooh and warm socks. Pack warm socks. They keep maternity units cool. Which is fine if you're in active labour. If you're not, and pop in in sandals, you'll suffer with cold, cold feet.

Tightening hasn't come with cramp, thankfully. They haven't been painful at all, apart from one spell in the early hours of monday morning. So thinking my body's either being extremely efficient, or I've got weeks of pre labour yet to endure.

Jadems · 04/06/2013 10:26

RuckandRoll - mine haven't been painful either, just uncomfortable. Feels like the mother of all bloats. First baby so not really sure what to expect. DP was asking me on Sunday whether I was having contractions. Confused Had no idea. Men seem to expect us to know this stuff, but I've got no idea why. Wasn't taken aside for any 'how to recognise a contraction' lessons just for girls at school!

RememberingMyPFEs · 04/06/2013 10:40

Welcome jadems and itcame

I've been having quite noticeable BH but very irregular. jadems that sounds like quite a scare... I was planning on packing my bag in early July but wondering if I should start earlier now. This is my last week at work GrinGrinGrin
32 weeks today.

Jadems · 04/06/2013 10:47

Definitely pack your bag RememberingMyPFEs. My DP is wonderful at choosing clothes, makeup, perfume etc but even he brought in my hospital stuff in an old adidas sports bag (not my lovely Cath Kidston hospital bag! Wink), and wouldn't have known where to start with finding mobile phone chargers etc. Thought I was going crazy not having anything to read other than staff magazines (takeabreak etc) to read yesterday, and wasn't allowed off monitors for trips to shop etc.

wavesandsmiles · 04/06/2013 13:26

I am half way through bag packing, still have my standard bag for non-labour related admissions, which I hopefully won't need to use again. First time I was admitted back in January my husband brought me things up in a carrier bag - so I think a sports bag is pretty good going jadems.

Very sick day for me, and terrified that given I've barely kept anything down at all, worried that the dehydration will be kicking in again Sad

Plan for bags anyway, is to keep one for non-labour related admissions, one for me with all the labour and post-birth loveliness in, and one for the baby. I did make a list last night of people to call when labour starts, and when the baby arrives, so feeling a little more organised.

32 weeks for me today.

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 04/06/2013 13:35

I'm dreading the sickness. I vomitting violently for about 2 hours after DD1 was born (am assuming it was because I was on an antibiotic drip, sintocinin drip and had an epidural) - and can handle the pain to a large extent but am such a wimp when it comes to sickness.

think I need to start packing my hospital bag and stocking up on maternity pads. i found the boots ones really good. Also want to make sure I pack a button up top for breatsfeeding, ended up cutting my nightie last time.

wavesandsmiles · 04/06/2013 14:20

I just can't wait for the baby to arrive and the sickness to stop, although with DD I was still being sick for 24 hours after she was born. since December there hasn't been a day without hurling, and I've been in hospital for around 3 nights a time on 7 occasions as a result of the dehydration.

I bought Boots maternity pads yesterday, glad to hear they are recommended.

MrsPennyapple · 04/06/2013 16:41

My bag is mostly packed, for my stuff at least, there's not much baby stuff in it yet but I need to get all the vacuum packed baby clothes out and find some tiny things to take, and I can't currently access the cupboard they're in.

No BH here, but I didn't get any with DD until a couple of days before she was born.
