Gerty1002 · 30/07/2013 20:40

Just reading my posts back and realised I sound like such an ungrateful winge! I've now had a little word with myself - I'm very lucky to have a healthy baby in there and will love him just as much no matter how he arrives! Smile

Ditsy79 · 30/07/2013 21:06

gerty I had an ECV a couple of weeks ago - I decided to go for it because I didn't fancy the extra recovery time for ELCS, plus if baby decided to come early I didn't want an EMCS.
The ECV was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. The injection of muscle relaxant stung quite a lot, and the actual procedure was uncomfortable - but the turning procedure only lasts for 3 minutes, so not too hard to put up with. I wasn't offered gas and air, but to be honest I didn't need it (and I have a low pain threshold). In my case, ECV was successful, and I would have it done again if needed in future pregnancies (this is my first DC).

PurpleDana · 30/07/2013 21:15

Had an antenatal class this evening and was very lucky to be allowed a tour of the delivery suite as it was quiet. I feel loads better after seeing it all now & finding out visiting hrs for the ward. Although we came out & hubby spoiled it by starting the 'staying in' argument again! Angry He really wants us to come home ASAP, but I'm a bit more flexible & saying if everything is absolutely fine then I will be happy too whilst also being a little cautious that baby or I may need a little more reassurance & stay a little while. When I had my first (18yrs ago & with a different partner) I lost alot of blood so was very week, then 12hrs or so after he was born my son stopped breathing. So obviously I have those memories whic scare me. I just feel like hubby is just acting like a kid with a new toy, just can't wait to get it home to play with it. But what if I don't feel well enough to leave hospital? I don't think he considers that.

BrieMonster · 30/07/2013 23:01

purpledana I am absolutely of the 'stay in as long as you can bear it' school. I stayed 4 nights after my second EMCS (5 the first time) and each time I had been desperate and ready to leave and both times I wish I'd stayed longer. Your experience sounds scary, so a good reason to feel very confident before heading home. I just stayed to be sure I had the hang of breast feeding as it went awry last time. But it's so easy to underestimate how much gets done for you in hospital and how reassuring the routine observations are and even how nice it is to be surrounded by strangers and their babies when you get up at night to feed. Well that's how I feel anyway, each to their own. But I really felt for the mums who seemed to feel pressure to get home and do it all themselves and have visitors etc etc.
I'd go back a couple of nights a week if I could!!! I hope your husband understands/shares your view when the time comes.

Gerty1002 · 31/07/2013 16:51

Thanks for the positive story Ditsy, I think I will chat through it with the midwife after my scan on Friday. I'm really not sure how I feel about it.

Starting to get rather uncomfortable now, pressure on bowel and very sore hips, as well as lots if braxton hicks today and some cramps last night. Perhaps I'm in for a super lengthy 'warming up' phase like some of you ladies are having! 35+5 today.

Hope everyone else is doing well :)

JollyHolidayGiant · 31/07/2013 19:53

35+6 today. Baby coming 3 weeks tomorrow.

And DH and I have finally agreed on names! Woohoo!

TrixieLulamoon · 31/07/2013 22:09

39+3, still nothing happening! Had a curry for dinner, me and dh dtd, been walking as much as possible and all I got was a tiny (and I mean tiny) part of show.

Gerty, personally I would have the ECV. Having a section this time around can limit your options for future births. Midwives looking after me while I was going for a VBAC with DD2 were overly cautious and would not let me be active. I ended up with another section. My recoveries after both were very quick and relatively painless though.

My section experiences weren't bad ones, but I wouldn't choose surgery if there was another option.

DH and I had agreed on a name before we knew the sex of baby so I really hope he looks like his name when he is born!

Gonnabmummy · 31/07/2013 22:35

To any of you who have not seen the news, don't. Avoid it for at least a week. I have spent the last half an hour in explicable rage and sea of emotions. I couldn't stop myself from crying so had to go and angrily wash up. Hope I save a few from watching it fingers crossed

JollyHolidayGiant · 31/07/2013 22:36

I've been hiding MN threads right, left and centre recently. And I haven't watched the news in months.

Thyeternalsummer · 31/07/2013 22:47

39 + 4 - Nothing happening. This baby is never going to be born. Am so never doing this again!!

30 today and feeling rather dispirited at this lacklustre farewell to my 20s. This time last year I was in a trendy London bar, dancing to Salsa and drinking pink champagne. Today I've managed a trip out to our local B & Q, and watched DP play Call of Duty for most of the evening. Feel like there needs to be some press announcement to young women that family life is actually some big dupe and they should all stay single and carefree for as long as possible, if not indefinitely Wink

LilPeasMama · 01/08/2013 00:50

Eternal you won't be saying that when you're baby has arrived WinkGrin

Gonnab what news, ohh I'm curious now Hmm to late though because I'm in bed and won't get up for any news.

I seem to have settled into mat leave ok this last week (maybe due to the weather being coolerHmm)
I have got some more jobs done around the house and obsessing seems to distract me so much so, the days have flown by really.....
The latest is towels, I need new towels I'm consumed by the colour, how many come in a bale, the best place to buy and what bloody gsm they are!
At least if this carries on I reckon I won't even notice the next 3weeks Smile
37+1

Gerty1002 · 01/08/2013 09:01

gonnab I read bbc news site before I read your warning... I'm confused! What news should we avoid?

trixie I'd love to avoid surgery but just going to see what happens at scan, had a tilted uterus at early scan so it's possible that has affected his position. I won't be making any decisions until I've had a good chat with hospital midwife as my last one was clueless.

DP had an argument with DMIL last night - she very much believes we should push for natural birth (no ECV, no ELCS) no matter what, as her son 'turned one week after due date'. That was 27 years ago and she was lucky not to go into labour before he turned. He was breech.

She doesn't seem to register that a transverse baby CAN'T safely be born by VBAC, so by just 'waiting it out' we would be risking me going into labour and ending up with EMCS, which would be more traumatic for everyone involved. There's an ever decreasing amount of room in there for him to turn now and I just don't see it happening, particularly past due date.

Sorry for the rant! Just feel like she thinks I'd be taking the easy way out to consider ELCS, when actually I'll be really disappointed if I don't get a VBAC.

TrixieLulamoon · 01/08/2013 09:15

Gerty an ELCS is hardly an easy way out! I hate how when you become pregnant you're everybody's business. They wouldn't dare tell you what decision to make re treatment for something else!

I'm very curious as to what is on the news. Think I'll make DH have a look see.......

Happy Birthday for yesterday eternal Call of Duty sounds more exciting than the crap I have to watch DH play sometimes!

Gonnabmummy · 01/08/2013 13:31

It's about a little boy guys, horrific story evil parents detail, pictures, body mapping just awful truly awful :(

FoofFighter · 01/08/2013 14:58

Gerty is this your first?

OP posts:
IJustWoreMyTrenchcoat · 01/08/2013 15:17

Having a quick catch-up on the thread. Can't believe how many babies there are! Congratulations to all of you who have your little bundles.

I have been feeling awful of late, but am finally feeling a little better now. I had a real ramp-up of symptoms like back ache, cramps, electric shock feelings on top of my cervix and excruciating pains down my leg where it would suddenly go from under me and feel numb. I suppose it is good and a sign baby is moving down, but oh it has not been comfortable. I have took to going to my parents and in-laws for long baths as we only have a shower.

The baths have been amazing, I am slightly fixated now on wanting a water birth but our hospital only has one pool. Some of the other rooms have one bathroom shared between two rooms so I am freaking out. I am really set on a water birth and am worried I will not cope without it.

I was having bladder problems for a long time where I needed the toilet 4/5 times in a row and could not empty my bladder. So uncomfortable, but thankfully it has eased off.

Gerty1002 · 01/08/2013 15:45

foof Yes it's my first, hence being so keen to experience a VBAC as I know ELCS/EMCS sometimes limits the chance of this for future births. However, it also makes it less likely for ECV to work. I have no idea what to do :(.

Now willing baby to do miraculous somersault and stick his head in my pelvis by 10am tomorrow!

FoofFighter · 01/08/2013 16:31

VBAC means vaginal birth after caesarian, which confused me as I thought you were on your first, then was thinking hang on she's already had a c section if she wants a vbac...

So you just want a VB lol :D

OP posts:
FoofFighter · 01/08/2013 16:33

Trench, my hospital has just one pool but I think there's only 5 delivery rooms anyway so a high chance I can get one. Maybe in the labour ward there will be big baths that you can soak in even if you can't deliver in the birthing pool? And don't underestimate showers either, you can angle it on the bump or back whereever you need it :)

We only have a shower too and I SOOOOOOO want a bath!!

Bakingabubba · 01/08/2013 18:09

Hi all. Hope you are surviving the heat - it's certainly back with a vengeance here today. Spent the afternoon in a well air conditioned beauty salon having a pedicure and toes painted (whilst I still can!) Smile

gerty your MIL needs to wind her neck in! Unless she is an obstetrician, midwife or similar she is not qualified to comment IMHO!! She will forget all about it once her grandchild is here anyhow! If its any consolation mine likes to remind me at frequent intervals that all three of her (naturally born) babies were over 10lb with my DH the biggest at 10lb 15oz...Hmm will be thinking of you at your scan appointment tomorrow.

Just wanted to let people know about something pushchair related I found out today. Only affects those who have bought a bugaboo cameleon 3. A while back in the news there was a recall on the carry handles for certain serial numbers of this pushchair. I assumed ours would be fine as it was ages ago and we only bought ours the other week. It was only when a friend mentioned it that I thought to double check. I'm glad I did because our pushchair is affected and so we needed to request a replacement handle for it. There is information about which serial numbers are affected and what to do here

Apologies if this has come up before or is old news to people but would hate for someone to have a problem when I could have warned them.

Sending you all cooling thoughts and virtual ice lollies!

Gerty1002 · 01/08/2013 18:54

Hahahaha foof I did wonder what the AC was for! Major MN error :)

I agree baking, we get on very well usually and really don't want to fall out with her over it, so hope DP's stern words sank in yesterday!

Feel much less exhausted today after two days on Pregnacare, I'm thinking I did need the extra iron after all!

Calmly looking forward to scan tomorrow, though the crazy pregnant lady in me has remodelled my hospital bag to take 'just in case' they keep me in tomorrow for some reason - no idea why!

Gerty1002 · 01/08/2013 18:57

PS baking I'm very jealous of your pampering, not sure I can justify the extra cost but it's rather tempting as reaching my feet is a lost cause now!

PurpleDana · 01/08/2013 19:33

Had midwife appt this morning, baby is 2/5 palpable but she says she feels really low (???) & doesn't think it will be long now, she doesn't expect to see me without baby again! Although I am not due to see her til 3wks time (when I'll be overdue) cos she on holiday again!! But this time she is going to try & get me seen by another midwife in 2wks.
So... Even more excited now :-D

MrsPennyapple · 01/08/2013 21:52

Gerty interesting you saying that about Pregnacare. I've been taking it since I found out, but a few days ago I finished the last one in the blister pack and forgot to get a new pack out. It was a couple of days later that I realised, so I missed two days, and I was completely exhausted those days. I know I tend towards fairly low iron levels anyway, so that was a bit of a wake-up call. I intend to keep taking it after the birth for at least a couple of weeks, or if not that then an alternative iron supplement.

MrsPennyapple · 01/08/2013 22:01

Taking it since I found out I was pg, I mean.
