Oohh! Thanks

Well done MrsD, congratulations to you all, what a lovely name too :) Hope you aren't too sore x

LilPeas yeah it took me a few days to get used to it too, though it helped that I hadn't taken any annual leave in the six months beforehand! So I spent the first two weeks just feeling like I was on holiday! Now I am three weeks away from EDD and also have quite a lot to do! Oops! Maybe I should start dragging myself out of holiday mode for a bit!! Blush trouble is, our furniture is all still flat packed as DH away and it only arrived yesterday so can't really do my proper organising for the babys room yet. Hoping the nesting instinct might kick in and prompt some kind of housework enthusiasm! To be honest though until the last couple of days it's just been too hot to do anything remotely practical!

LilPeasMama · 25/07/2013 00:10

Congratulations MrsD

That's it baking I have been thinking that I'm just on holiday so I have got the main/big jobs out of the way early on.
I also have flat packed furniture of which I have put up the drawers, with the help of DP though, still a wardrobe and cot to do, this can be done later though as baby has Moses basket.
Isn't this heat supposed to last another month?
I took a tour of the hospital on tues when the temperature was about 30degrees and could not see a fan in sight!
[shocked]

Stopsittingonyoursister · 25/07/2013 03:49

Hi all, just catching up with everything. Congratulations Mrsd, love the name! Am also delighted to announce the safe arrival
of Daniel William at 7.46 am on Sunday 21st ( we missed the royal baby by a day!). Very fortunate that everything was straightforward, 2hrs 31m from start to finish and we were discharged straight home. He is perfect in every way! Grin

Bakingabubba · 25/07/2013 10:06

Yeah LilPeas the hospital temperatures are pretty hideous at the best of times from my experience. The labour ward at our local hospital is insanely hot too but apparently there should be some fans. Maybe they keep them in a secret cupboard to stop people stealing them? I'm not sure I can cope with another month of this heat - it has been a bit cooler here the last few days but its still pretty warm (never thought I would say 26 degrees felt cool!!)

How did you find sleeping last night with straighter legs? Hope you were a bit more comfortable?

Am sitting on my ball bouncing away trying to encourage the little person to engage - he/she is still floating around in there! Head is down but not in - come on baby!

Gerty1002 · 25/07/2013 10:58

I did Baking and there was a definite Improvement, though I had to fight my natural urges to assume fetal position haha. Hips do feel better this morning.

Just had midwife appointment and baby was lying oblique (diagonally, legs down) but even whilst she was prodding he changed position three times! I think he has now ended uo transverse, little tinker, so I've got a presenting scan next Friday to see where we're at. Fingers crossed our little gymnast decides to get into position by then as I don't fancy an ECV and definitely want to avoid an ELCS if I can.

Other than that all is well, heartbeat is great and he's still measuring dot on the middle line :).

LilPeasMama · 25/07/2013 11:42

Congrats stopsitting great news that all is well and you could go home straight away!

baking I will be raiding those cupboards like a mad woman! Grin
Sleeping was better last night, just like Gerty I did bend them on occasion but tried to keep moving back straight, definitely helped though.

I have a midwife appt tomorrow too Gerty
I'll be looking forward to see if my pea has moved down any, I'm going to my first aquanatal class today so hopefully lots of bouncing around in the water will help!

FoofFighter · 25/07/2013 11:54

More flowers for you Stopsitting Thanks even though we already knew lol x

Congrats MrsD77 - Fab news!

We're Team Yellow as well.

Saw midwife today at 35+6 - Potential signs of pre-eclampsia appear to be looming - been told if I get an headaches or blurred vision to get on to triage straight away.

Am so flipping uncomfortable, desperate to get back to work for last few days to do a proper handover but each day its looking less likely. Gutted and feeling despondent :(

RuckAndRoll · 25/07/2013 13:26

Congratulations mrsd and stopsitting Smile

I think I need to borrow any of you with energy to clean. I've been off work 2 weeks and feel like I've done nothing, the flat needs a good clean and the nursery still isn't useable. So far today I've got dressed and put the Moses basket covers and sheets in the wash. Can't even be bothered with lunch today
37+4

PurpleDana · 25/07/2013 16:45

Congrats stop!
I'm joining the achy hip brigade too. Ooh so uncomfortable! My groin and tops of my thighs really hurt too, like I've done a billion squats!
Should've had a midwife appt today but she is away again so gotta wait til next week, frustrating cos I'm desperate to know how much we've progressed since being 4/5 palpable 2wks ago, especially as usual pains became stronger & just felt different yesterday. Why do they not draft in another midwife to cover? Hmm

Bakingabubba · 25/07/2013 17:59

Gerty and LilPeas glad that your hips have felt a bit better today and hope your little tinker moves into the correct position soon gerty - how many weeks are you now? If baby is still doing somersaults then that hopefully means there is still plenty of time for them to plug in the satnav and locate the exit?!

Purple have you tried the straight legs approach for your poor old hips? Sorry to hear you had to miss your appointment - that is frustrating.

I have eaten waaay too much cake this afternoon. It didn't really fit in my my squished stomach to be honest! Tasted good though! Maybe the weight of the cake will push the baby downwards...Hmm Definitely no dinner required tonight though!

Gerty1002 · 25/07/2013 18:41

Thanks, baking, I was given the number to self-refer to physio today so if my hips get worse ill give them a call.

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow, scan at 36 weeks then they may attempt to turn him at 37 weeks. I just hope if he is head down at the scan he doesn't change his mind again afterwards haha.

Anyone have a clue if they'll be booking in an ELCS at the 37 week appointment if turning doesn't work? Hopefully it won't come to that, though!

Ditsy79 · 25/07/2013 18:52

gerty I had ECV last week - thankfully it was successful. I would have thought they would give you a date for ELCS if the turning is unsuccesful - they gave me a date for my induction at the appointment (have to be induced due to Gestational diabetes).

MissHinky · 25/07/2013 19:37

Ditzy - Have they given you a rough idea of baby's size yet? Is it bigger due to the GD?

Boosiehs · 25/07/2013 20:00

Hello everyone.

Firstly thanks for the good wishes earlier on the thread. My DH had some good scan results so is out of the melanoma woods for now. Phew!!

I had mw appt yesterday and at 36 weeks Baby is 3/5 engaged. Not entirely sure what this really means!

Ditsy79 · 25/07/2013 20:36

misshinky At the 36 week scan, baby was on about 50th centile for femur length and size of head, although abdominal circumference was 90th centile. Last week I had the ECV which the consultant did under scan conditions, and he was happy that the baby wasn't too big - it's just their policy to induce women with GD at 39 weeks.
Only 6 days left til my induction, starting to panic that we're not ready!

MissHinky · 25/07/2013 20:46

Ditzy - Ah, just wondered, I checked with my consultant last time about it and he said, that if baby is a normal size and GD under control, he'd consider going to 40 weeks but if baby growing large, then induction at around 38 weeks! I have my 36 weeks scan tomorrow so will find out more!

I've been panicking for the last 36 weeks, lol!

cantdecideonanewname · 25/07/2013 22:14

Congratulations mrsd77 and stopsitting Flowers

I used to be on the threads earlier in pregnancy and have name changed since then.

I've got so much to do, sorting and cleaning wise but it's so bloody hot I don't seem to be able to sum up the energy to do anything beyond the bare and I mean bare minimum.

I'm hoping to have a home birth but have had my hospital bag packed for about 4 weeks now and the car seat is in the car ready just in case.

Think it was snuffle and babyh who mentioned the hood on moses baskets not staying up, on mine there is a little screw you have to tighten when in the position you want, might be worth checking.

36+2

Bakingabubba · 25/07/2013 22:49

boosiehs 3/5 engaged usually means that when the midwife feels for the babies head she can feel 3/5 of the head outside of yor pelvis. Occasionally it is the other way round (ie 3/5 in and 2/5 felt outside - worth checking with your midwife what her practice is).

As for what it means - just that baby is moving downwards and starting to get in position for being born. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that babies who engage earlier will necessarily deliver earlier. It's nice to know they are heading in the right direction though Smile. First babies tend to (but don't always) engage a few weeks before the due date, while second and subsequent babies may not engage until labour starts. Some first babies don't engage until labour either but that is ok too. They are all different! Hope that helps a little bit Smile

Bunnylion · 26/07/2013 00:33

Hello ladies, first time on this thread. 36+1 and getting pretty excited now! I'm planning a home birth and having a little boy.

Just reading upthread, there's always confusion over the terms engaged and palpable.

Palpable is the amount of baby's head outside your pelvis, engaged being amount of baby's head inside your pelvis.

My midwife said that my baby's head is "starting to engage" and wrote 4/5 in my notes. At first I presumed that this meant 4/5 engaged (as that's the word she used) but on closer inspection of my notes it's not, it's actually 4/5 palpable - so only 1/5 engaged. If you're not sure check your notes because the NHS usually only note what is palpable within your notes, not what is engaged.

Beckett3 · 26/07/2013 03:19

Congratulations mrsd77 and stopsitting Flowers

Wide awake and have to be at the hospital in just over 3 1/2 hours, got to drop my children off with my mum first though.

Only finished packing mine and babies bag this evening!

So excited and nervous and everything inbetween.

FoofFighter · 26/07/2013 08:23
