Stiggley · 12/07/2013 21:36

Congratulations Brie - great news. Nice to know I sm not on my own.

We are settling back home. Had 2 dreadful nights. So very tired. Margot sleeps during day and active at night

Skinnydecafflatte · 12/07/2013 21:52

Well all seems a bit of a non event after all. Bleeding seems to have stopped so that's good. Last time labour started with period pains and progressed really quickly so I think it was just a teaser. Having some chocolate to compensate now and husband is now back so at least not on my own. Thanks x

Gerty1002 · 12/07/2013 23:35

ahh baby mustn't be ready for the big exit yet. Glad DH is home to keep you company :)

chocolatesolveseverything · 13/07/2013 12:48

Congratulations to Brie!

BrieMonster · 13/07/2013 17:44

Thanks everybody.. Am rubbish at phone internetting so hard to keep up in hospital. Might go home tomorrow if we have feeding sorted though despite the heat i am enjoying being waited on hand and foot so may well stay. Actually dp diesn't want me home til baby has a name!
Hope everyone else is well and sorry for me me me message. Just can't see what i'm doing!

BrieMonster · 13/07/2013 18:15

Oh and anaesthetist was hot again as they all seem to be!

Gonnabmummy · 14/07/2013 09:21

How's everyone doing? Came down with the worst v+d bug ever! Had to phone delivery suite for advice as my local midwives and gp is closed. Been up all night and its getting worse been told to completely starve myself for 12 hours on only water! Not sure how that'll work ill never make it to 9pm! Sad

MrsPennyapple · 14/07/2013 09:31

Gonnab that's horrid, hope it runs it's course quickly and you feel much better soon.

Brie I'd stay in hospital for a couple of days too, may as well get some rest while you can - not to mention a bit of help with those first few nappies!

Asked at the chemist yesterday if there was any havfever stuff I can take, but they just looked gormless and said no. I've heard from various places that there is though, so I guess I need to make an appointment with my GP. I've developed a chesty cough on top of that, so I'm not feeling too great just now.

Gerty1002 · 14/07/2013 09:38

Sorry to hear you're so poorly gonna - very surprised you've been told to starve yourself for that long, I've never been give that advice with v&d, in fact it's usually the opposite. 12 hours without food seems a long time for a pregnant lady! Hope you feel better soon.

I was at a family bbq all yesterday until midnight - I think I overdid it as I was getting quite bad pains later on in the evening. It was like baby was headbutting my cervix, which has happened quite a lot lately, but it was more frequent and painful and enough to make me double over a few times. Anyone had this? I know sometimes the usual niggles are worse when you're dehydrated so perhaps it was just that. I'm 33+2 btw.

Hope everyone else is doing ok in the heat - it was a lovely temperature here (north east) yesterday with a nice cooling breeze.

Christelle2207 · 14/07/2013 09:53

Pennyapple you can definitely take piriton though pharmacist likely to ask you to err on side of caution however I know women who've been given it on prescription (so not had to pay!) and also I have a friend with a baby and she's been prescribed it for your baby.

Sorry for those suffering. I am officially HATING the heat, I have so much to do yet spent most of yesterday afternoon with my feet in a bucket of ice cold water. At least where I am (South Manchester) it is supposed to ease off in the next few days. Really worried about it being this hot now when in labour, although I want a water birth a cold bath seems suddenly more appealing than a warm one!

Warm congratulations to Brie! Hope Stiggley things are getting better for you too.

Christelle2207 · 14/07/2013 09:54

for her baby, doh. and the women I know who've been given piriton were pg too.

MrsPennyapple · 14/07/2013 09:57

Thanks Christelle, I have some hayfever tabs upstairs so will check what they are. I got through almost a whole loo roll yesterday, just blowing my nose, it was literally every 2-3 minutes. It's driving me crazy.

Gonnabmummy · 14/07/2013 10:01

I don't think I'll cope to 9 pm because when I called at 9 am I had already been up all night vomiting so was completely empty just bile now. It'd be effectively 24 hours since I'd have eaten. Gonna try for as long as I can then have a piece of toast. Doctor google and mn are not helping. Everything seems to point towards a clear out before labour currently 33+4 so he can happily stay put for a while.
DP has just made the most amazing looking cheesy beans on toast for his brekkie soo jealous but poor lad has been up all night and to make it worse the second time I was sick through night was so violent I flipping pee'd on the floor glamorous I am not
I feel so well though just like a normal day which is worse than feeling poorly and sorry for myself Sad

PurpleDana · 14/07/2013 10:03

penny I was also told by my midwife and pharmacist that there is nothing for hay fever in pregnancy, not even eye drops are safe! But my friend who is also pregnant and has a different midwife was told the supermarket own brands are fine if really necessary Confused I went to H&B and bought a barrier balm that u just frequently apply under your nose to stop u inhaling the pollen. It's not magic but it is ok, better than nothing!
gerty a couple of wks ago my usual twinges turned pretty painful at times too, scared my hubby a bit! I think it's just another normal phase as baby gets into position cos now the pain has gone and just back to niggles. I'm 35+1 and 4/5 palpable.
I also think I overdid it a bit yesterday. I had my baby shower which was lovely and fun, but in the evening I was so tired I felt quite unwell. I think yesterday was the first time the heat got to me really.

MrsPennyapple · 14/07/2013 10:29

I found some Piriton, looked at the "instructions" on the bit of paper inside, there was a "do not take if..." bit but none of that applied to me, and it didn't mention pregnancy. Under a separate heading it said consult your doctor before taking, so obviously it's not a complete no-no. I also checked previous MN threads and plenty of people have been prescribed it, and I'm not on any other medication, so I made the decision to take one. The way I'm feeling I need something. Hopefully it'll kick in soon. I'll save it for extreme hayfever situations though, I've held of as long as I can but today it's just horrendous.

Gonnabmummy · 14/07/2013 15:19

Only made it to half 12 and one one slice of toast. It's stayed put went for a lie down at 1 got up ten mins ago so hopefully the worst has passed. Just wait and see.

babyhmummy01 · 15/07/2013 11:45

penny loratadine is they only hayfever remedy that you van take when pg according to NHS website. I am suffering horrifically and its been creating issues with my asthma so have checked with GP and asthma consultant and been told its fine. Just be warned that it will cause baby to slow down movements a little.

gonnab I did reply on ur other thread but hope ur feeling better.

I have had chronic stomach ache and back ache since yesterday and have barely slept cos everytime I move it hurts. DP says its prob things stretching but I feel awful.

MrsPennyapple · 15/07/2013 15:08

NHS website says Loratadine is the preferred one. Anyway, it's done now and all is well. It did make me a little drowsy, but that was ok, I sat and watched Sunday Brunch whilst DH kept DD busy.

Think you misread that babyH is certainly doesn't say it's the only one..
and loratadine is a non drowsy too Wink
(copy n pasted)
Always check with your GP before taking oral antihistamines (antihistamine tablets) when you?re pregnant. Pharmacists are unlikely to sell antihistamines over the counter for use in pregnancy because of manufacturers? restrictions.

You can take some oral antihistamines when you?re pregnant, but not others. Oral antihistamines can help relieve itchy eyes, a runny nose and sneezing.

The antihistamines mentioned in this section have not been shown to cause harm to the unborn baby, and doctors consider them suitable for use during pregnancy.

If you can?t use nasal sprays, nose drops or eye drops, or if they don?t work for you, your GP may recommend an oral antihistamine called loratadine.

Some oral antihistamines can cause drowsiness. These are known as sedating antihistamines. However, loratadine is non-sedating and the preferred oral antihistamine for treating hay fever during pregnancy.

If loratadine is not suitable or does not work for you, your GP may instead recommend another oral antihistamine called cetirizine.

The sedating oral antihistamine chlorphenamine, is also considered safe to take during pregnancy. However, this should be avoided close to labour and childbirth as it can cause problems in the baby, such as irritability or tremor (shaking).

If you become drowsy after taking oral antihistamines, do not drive or operate machinery.

Does the TV count as machinery? Wink

babyhmummy01 · 15/07/2013 20:13

Ah, I think I found a diff page on it but fair enough. As long as you can take something lol. I.can't function without it and full doses if my asthma meds in this heat!

Still only a few more weeks! It's my birthday next week and the number of family members who are asking if I want "things for the baby" for it is starting to grate. Do I not exist as a person in my own right anymore?

LouiseD29 · 15/07/2013 22:11

I've been using prevalin nasal spray for my hayfever. Suitable for pregnant women. It's fast and effective but doesn't last very long - need to take more every 3 hours or so.

Hope everyone's coping in the heat! I had 36 week scan today to check placenta position (which is no longer low-lying - woohoo!) and baby is already 6lbs 11oz (due 10th Aug) but her head is 'average sized', which is what I wanted to hear! She's head down, in position ready to go. Clever baby.

36+2

MrsPennyapple · 15/07/2013 22:50

Prevalin, that sounds like what someone recommended the other day, but I couldn't remember the name of it, she did say it was a nasal spray. Bizarrely, not a trace of hayfever today. The hacking chesty cough seems to have taken over :(

PurpleDana · 16/07/2013 10:52

Sooo tired. Really struggling to sleep. Baby is making her presence felt in the night & i'm up every couple of hours bursting for the loo! Then it takes ages to get back to sleep cos of twinges & the heat. I've always been a good sleeper so disrupted sleep is a strange new way of life for me, better get used to it I guess!
