so sorry that you have to put up with this. It's odd - my mw seemed to take any smoking mums seriously and would pack them off on some course yet there doesn't seem to be any formal process to try and get fathers to kick the habit. Surely it's the best time to do it. I know at least 3 dads who swore to their partners that they would give up when baby turned up. Needless to say they didn't.

cakebaby · 29/06/2013 13:12

Really not sure how to handle it, we don't argue or row over anything, but this is a real sticking point which is almost a no go area now due to the ill feeling it causes. My other concern is him popping out for a cig when I'm in hospital as I know I will freak out and be so cross with him. He's halfheartedly tried ecigs, prescription meds, nicotine replacement mints etc but goes back tonight out of habit at work, as he 'likes it'. FFS makes me mad just typing about it Angry

To make things worse I am an evangelical ex smoker .

babyhmummy01 · 29/06/2013 17:27

cake I know you already know this, but you can't force him. He either wants to quit or he doesn't and if he isn't ready then he simply won't stop whatever he uses. I know its frustrating cos it worries the hell.out of me with my parents and baby sister. I had hoped baby would give them.a reason but apparently not. But they are adults so all I can do is protect my babay as best I can. Both dp and I have asthma, mine chronic his not s bad so there is a very good chance that she will develop it so am gonna play that card and say I wanna reduce the risk of putting stress on.her little lungs to explain them smoking.outside etc.

babyhmummy01 · 30/06/2013 20:34

Have we had a good weekend ladies??

My bestie's little girl.was christened today...am soooooo desperate to meet my little lady now...am a very impatient person at the best of times but this.is.torture!

Have been talking to dp about having her christened so having a look this week at the local church etc...eeekkk its all getting real at last...OMG I am gonna be a mummy.

RuckAndRoll · 01/07/2013 11:31

Babies christening is already pencilled in at our church, has been since we told the rector I was pregnant! It'll be a huge service as there are 2 priests in DH's family who he wants involved in the service as well.

Been at the mw this morning. Little monkey is now head down but she reckons it's still so high it'll probably turn breech again! Also got told I don't meet the criteria for the MLU but she said don't worry about it, try on the day and see as the consultant unit is up the stairs from midwife unit so it's not exactly far.

Stiggley · 01/07/2013 12:23

Morning all

A rather eventful weekend.

Baby margot was born yesterday by emcs. Weighing 4 lb. In special care and doing great. Off ventilation and feeding through tube. Going to try bf.

I am knackered as had allergic reaction to the spinal.

Just been told shedis coming down to see me! So excited

RuckAndRoll · 01/07/2013 12:47

Congratulations Stiggley so glad she's here and safe, enjoy as many cuddles as you can possibly get Smile

wow first 'august' baby, this is all getting very real now.

chocolatesolveseverything · 01/07/2013 12:51

Congratulations Stiggley! Hope you both continue to do well and get to enjoy those all-important baby cuddles very soon!

RugBugs · 01/07/2013 13:18

Oh my word! Congratulations Stiggley Margot is a lovely name, hope she continues to do well

GaryBuseysTeeth · 01/07/2013 13:27

Congratulations Stiggley! Margot is a beautiful name, sounds like she's doing well...good luck with the bf & having squishy cuddles!
Sorry to hear you had an allergic reaction, hope you're recovering well aside from being knackered?

I've been talking to our Rev. about being confirmed (eek!) this year, hoping to get DS & this one christened at the same time, would be amazing to share the day with them (although they won't care).
Ruck, sounds like you're in for a good day! 2 Priests! Did they have a role at your wedding?

cake, no idea how to get him to stop, but hope you manage to find something that works.
My mum (numerous health problems) smokes because she 'deserves a treat' Confused

MrsPennyapple · 01/07/2013 13:34

Wow, first prize goes to.... STIGGLEY! Well done, glad little Margot is here safely, hope you both stay well. How many weeks were you when she was born?

All fine here, just tired, and tired of being tired, if that makes sense. DH asked me last night if I was ok, and when I told him that he said "Oh well, give it a month and you'll be even more knackered!" I'd have decked him if he'd been close enough. As it is, I asked if that was supposed to cheer me up. He's supportive in other ways, like cooking, taking DD out, etc, but my god he's bloody insensitive at times!

Woofers · 01/07/2013 14:38

Congratulations stiggly!! Fx for a speedy recovery after reaction to your spinal, and enjoy all those lovely cuddles. ThanksThanksThanks

Fuck this shit is getting real!!!!! ShockShockShockShockBlush

We have been doing nct antenatal classes and the only thing dh has learnt / been willing to discuss is perineum massage. Obsessive is an understatement.

RuckAndRoll · 01/07/2013 14:43

Gary that sounds like a really nice plan. We got married at my parents church so the vicar there did the actual marriage and our rector from the church we go to did the sermon. I don't want to complicate the christening service so just want the rector of our church doing it. We shall see. I've found the most amazing peice of music I'm going to ask one of the choristers to learn - look online for Kristyn Getty - A mothers Prayer

Christelle2207 · 01/07/2013 15:00

Amazing news, congrats!

babyhmummy01 · 01/07/2013 15:28

congrats Stiggly glad she is doing ok, and love the name!!!!!!

I have been and collected the moses basket etc that a friend has gifted, had to be VERY careful not to say the wrong thing!! It was in a vile state...not sure I actually can bring myself to use it Sad everything is currently on a boil wash and hoing it comes clean enough for me to brave using it.

Mrsd77 · 01/07/2013 16:06

Many congratulations Stiggley X

Stopsittingonyoursister · 01/07/2013 16:13

Many congratulations Stiggley! Glad everyone is safe xxx

RugBugs · 01/07/2013 16:36

Woofers my DP had a similar obsession during my first pg, but it was the prospect of me getting piles! He would ask me far too often if I had them yet Hmm

FoofFighter · 01/07/2013 17:39

Oh Stiggley, many many hugs to you both and to baby Margot, what a gorgeous name! I hope you aren't going to have to stay in too long, update when you can, get lots of sleep and lots of cuddles... oooh so exciting! (although I bet it wasn't in reality!!)

Woofers, at least he's willing to venture down that area Wink I've got lucky only ONCE since we conceived Sad

We will be having a humanist naming ceremony as not in the slightest religious, baby can choose that path or not for themselves at a later date :) For family travelling reasons it would be easier for them to have it in Sept but on lots of reflection, it's just too soon. So aiming for February/March I think. We are going to have "Odd Parents" Grin

Cakebaby I had been a sm

Oh congratulations Stiggley wonderful news that baby Margot is doing well, glad you both are ok!

LilPeasMama · 01/07/2013 21:10

Cakebaby
I had been a smoker up until I found out I was pregnant but stopped immediately and always said I would if becoming pregnant, my DP was a heavy smoker up until April when I told him he would not be smoking in the house when the baby arrives.
He has since then been using an ECig not sure whether that's better or worse since they haven't been tested, but he has not touched a real cigarette since!

Oh congratulations Stiggley wonderful news that baby Margot is doing well, glad you both are ok!

Last 7 days at work coming up....

32+6

wavesandsmiles · 01/07/2013 21:15

Wonderful news Stiggley hope you get lots and lots of newborn cuddles over the coming days.

Had my 36 week check today, baby's head is "fixed" according to my notes, no idea what that means. Serious lack of sleep due to fierce BH contractions so hoping the next few weeks fly by.

cakebaby · 01/07/2013 23:01

stiggley how wonderful, congratulations!!!

Wow, it all seems more real now....eeeeek! Off to pack bag just in case...

Gary I think I've given up trying to get him to give up, just want him to not bring his fumes home to me and pfb!

Lil can't be worse than smoking real cancer sticks can it? At least your DP is giving it a go. And massive well done to you too!

babyhmummy01 · 02/07/2013 08:02

cake suspect that is best you can hope for at least for the moment!

Off for whooping cough jab today....scared cos I hate needles and do is at work, feels odd without him here in daytime as he works nights, but is nice to have help in the evenings so I can have a bath to ease the aches.

Is anyone else finding random bruises everywhere? I have them up my arms and legs and 2 small ones on my bump but am really careful not to squeeze to.pass stuff etc so no idea where they are from
[Sad] the ones on the bump are about where she kicks, could it be her causing those ones?

MrsPennyapple · 02/07/2013 10:40

No christening / confirmation / anything like that for us. DH isn't religious, and I was raised in a very strictly religious home, which has put me off organised religion for life. I'm happy for DC to choose for themselves when they're old enough.

Conversation when DD was born:

MIL - "Will you be having the baby christened?"
Me & DH together - "NO!"
MIL - "Oh....."

The silence spoke volumes! I suppose we are lucky in that, even though MIL is a pain in the rear, she knows when something is none of her business, she doesn't generally try to force her preferences and opinions.

babyh No bruises here - or no more than usual. I usually have a few dotted around. I don't honestly know if baby kicking could cause one, it'd have to be a pretty hefty kick! I suppose you currently have a larger volume of blood in your body, which could mean you are more likely to bruise? I believe a bruise is caused when blood cells are damaged / killed (like by a bump or knock), and they are brought to the surface to be expelled as the skin naturally regenerates, shedding old cells and making new ones. (Prepared to be corrected as I'm not 100% certain.)

It's worth mentioning to your mw, when I was in hospital after DD I had a big, dark bruise on my leg where I'd bashed it trying to get comfy during contractions. All of the nurses & midwives asked about it, but I think it was the position that concerned them, as an unexplained leg bruise could have been a symptom of thrombosis. (They weren't worried once I told them I knew exactly where & when I'd got it.)
