My maternity leave officially starts on Tuesday, kicks in automatically as I've been off sick with Hyperemesis and where I live it converts to that 6 weeks within due date. I've also heard I've been made redundant so won't be back there at all......

babyhmummy01 · 16/06/2013 23:00

waves have the company told you that officially? Mine are trying to sack me but can't at the moment lol

IJustWoreMyTrenchcoat · 16/06/2013 23:07

I am trying to get to 37/8 weeks. Official Maternity Leave starts on my due date, I will use annual leave to go a bit earlier. The leave book is already full for some days but I am hoping it won't matter as I am supposed to take it and not carry it over. I am also going to be placed at risk when I am back off Maternity Leave so want to delay it and keep my wage for as long as possible.

It is getting a bit harder now, especially on days we are very short staffed. Not helped by struggling to sleep.

The Midwife at my 31 week check said she thinks the baby is still breech, I was convinced I felt the baby turn! But the head isn't very upright under my ribs anymore, it is at the top, but over to the side.

Is anybody else struggling with their bladder? I am never off the toilet now, but it is often just a dribble (sorry, tmi!). I then need on again straight away... It could be how the baby is lying, and it is exacerbated when I am walking, it is a huge pressure. There was some white blood cells in my urine so it has gone off to be checked just in case of infection.

32 weeks tomorrow!

RememberingMyPFEs · 16/06/2013 23:36

trench same here, drives me crazy! I'll be desperate then less than a dribble. 2 mins later, need to go again... She's head down and low and when I walk it's even worse but I'm trying not to go constantly... Just over 6 weeks to go... Eeek!
33+5

RememberingMyPFEs · 16/06/2013 23:38

Oh, sorry MrsHinky officially I start on Tues, using annual leave up at the moment. 7th June was my last day in the office til next year...

Ditsy79 · 17/06/2013 06:13

MissHinky - I had planned to work up to 38 weeks originally (must have been mad!), but since they told me I have GD I have brought it forward to 36 weeks. Thought it made sense, in case they have to induce me early cos of the GD. So I've got 3 wks left, last working day is 5th July...am on proper countdown now :-)

wavesandsmiles · 17/06/2013 08:10

babyh as I've been made redundant I don't have a job as of 30 June so it's actually the statutory pay that changes from sick pay to maternity allowance. Automatically switches at 34 weeks here so that's tomorrow.....

Woke up to horrid nausea, everything smells awful and already been sick twice despite only being up half an hour. Wish I had fewer pets as they are smelling awful.

33 + 6

babyhmummy01 · 17/06/2013 08:58

Ohh hun that sucks I am.sorry!

Well spent 40 mins trying to.get thru to the Dr to be told both surgeries are fully booked grrr have to wait for phone call

RuckAndRoll · 17/06/2013 10:39

waves hope you can keep the weight gain going, despite having a rough day already.

Had my 32 wk appointment today, baby who was nicely head down at the last one is now breech, little monkey, heart rate is fine and gave her a swift kick so at least it's happy. Measuring a bit under but she's not worried. Another UTI as well.

JRmumma · 17/06/2013 10:43

missHinky im leaving work on 5th July, which is 7 weeks before my due date, but first 4 weeks are annual leave. I know I sound like a lightweight, but have no intention of staying at work until im unbearably uncomfortable Smile, plus I work in London and have to get on the tube which is not nice on the best days, let alone when its hot and you are pregnant!

I also want to spend some time getting prepared and finishing off some things around the house that we've been meaning to do for ages but havent got around to before baby comes. I also plan to spend the first week sitting on the sofa or in the garden if its nice and doing nothing.

Cant wait to finish now. Only 3 weeks including this one and then im free!

babyhmummy01 · 17/06/2013 10:45

Aww ruck hope you are better own and baby turns again!

Doc is obv concerned about pain, he has insisted I come in for a check up...anyone taking bets on admission to triage later? A, hoping he just says its nothing and to rest, although to sit without pain in my tummy I am setting off the pgp, can't flaming win!

babyhmummy01 · 17/06/2013 12:34

Oh joy, off to triage. No uti but gp concerned about pain and tenderness when she pushed (hard) on my tummy. So see you all much later as am bound to get stuck there for hours

RuckAndRoll · 17/06/2013 12:44

babyh it's the right place for you if they're not 100% happy. I know ours are great, I've been there a few times.

Christelle2207 · 17/06/2013 12:48

Hi
Back from hols (Dorset) which was nice relief but now back at my desk and will be for another FIVE weeks - taking me to 38 weeks exactly (due date 2nd Aug). Am now seriously worried about making it that far, no concerns about baby coming early however pgp/spd/backache really making everything very uncomfortable and also am increasingly stressed about things we need to do around the house before baby comes. The more time passes though the less likely I will to able to do it! I do have more AL I can take however was hoping to carry that over until just before I return to work because I only get SMP. Am actually thinking of trying to get signed off because I really cant last that long, just wondering on what grounds would be best. At least my employer is fine about me just being office based and not doing any travel from now on, also my commute to work is a fairly easy drive. I had to go into London a couple of weeks ago (from Manchester) and there's no way I could deal with that on a daily basis!
Given how much activity there's been on the July thread I wouldn't be surprised if the first arrival on the thread came soon!
Best of luck at triage babyhmummy - best to be safe.

Am a bit annoyed that mw hasn't mentioned WC jab yet. Just called my gp and they said they should have done because best to have it 28-32 weeks (I'm 33). I will have to ask at my next appointment (Friday) I guess. I keep having to go and get blood tests done because of dicky thyroid, I don't mind but I do wonder what what would happen if I wasn't proactive.

Continuing bugaboo dilemmas here - dh is very keen and I like everything about it except for the cost. Point is, we plan to hopefully have a 2nd child so hopefully would get quite a bit of use out of it, but dh is seriously put off my the fact that when out of 2yr warranty you can't get spare parts as the swines just want you to buy a new one. Granted, from what I have read they tend to not break but still think that's cheeky. Anyone else been troubled by this?

babyhmummy01 · 17/06/2013 12:50

Ours are pretty shit unfortunately ruck, the mw who answered the phone has already dismissed it as pgp. Quite flatly told her I could tell the diff between my stomach and pelvis.

Why do they think we would bother them if we weren't concerned. Told the stupid cow it was my gp making me go grrr. I have let it go on for nigh on 10 days before bothering them

JRmumma · 17/06/2013 14:28

Hope all is OK babyhmummy

Christelle fair play to you for working up until 38 weeks! I dont think id feel at all prepared if I only gave myself 2 weeks grace before the baby is due. I may be wrong (maybe someone else can confirm/dismiss) but I think if you get signed off sick within 6 weeks of your due date then they automatically start your mat leave, so may not be the best thing to do unless you dont actually mind going on mat leave early. Maybe you could use your annual leave to go part time for the last few weeks instead?

WC jab needs to be given between 28 and 38 weeks so 33wks will be fine. Just a heads up that it can make your arm hurt ALOT (mine did) and that arm was pretty much useless for a couple of days, so think about which side you have it in. I couldnt sleep on mine for 3 nights, or lift my arm above shoulder height.

We had this discussion about getting more use out of a more expensive buggy by using for a second child so might be worth the cost, but decided against it in the end as you never know what will happen to it in the mean time. Like you say, it could need a very minor replacement part that you cant get hold of, which may render it useless, no matter how much it costs. It could also get stolen/accidentally damaged/not fit in boot of new car etc. You may also find that you just dont get on with it and end up buying a new one for second baby anyway. Although if its what you want and you can afford it, then go for it. Lifes too short!

SendMum · 17/06/2013 15:54

I'm in a similar situation to you christelle 2207, I'm due on 2nd August and working up to end of 37th week. I also have a 5 year old and a 3 year old to look after and although I only work 3 days a week i do commute into London which is 1.5 hours each way. Feeling so tired already and not sure how I'm going to make it! Only get SMP as well though so trying to make it last as long as possible on the other side. Fingers crossed it goes quickly for us!

RugBugs · 17/06/2013 15:56

Hope everything goes ok at triage BabyH

That's a bit shit about not selling sparesnfor bugaboos! I've replaced a few bits on my phil & teds for the new baby that were looking well-used (and lost a few nuts/bolts that they have sent me free of charge).

I started my maternity leave at 29 weeks Grin but i'm self-employed and wasn't taking on any new work.

Christelle2207 · 17/06/2013 16:09

Yes JR you're right employers have the right to enforce you to start mat leave after 34 weeks I think (if for example you have been off for a while already) that said it probably would not be in their best interests to do so unless they thought you really weren't going to come back at all before going off properly. In my case my mat cover person is not due to start until just before I go off so it would be pretty daft for them to enforce me to go off on mat leave early.
My boss actually told me to try and hold off mat leave for as long as possible and if not coping get signed off! Think I will use that strategy but maybe use up some more leave as well.
On the pram front I'm swaying towards just buying a mamas and papas zoom - seems to have good reviews and less than half the cost of a bugaboo - and hoping for the best.

babyhmummy01 · 17/06/2013 17:07

Am back...all fine, it is my stomach muscles, in part the weight of bump and gravity through the day and partly cos I am overweight apparantly. However, my urine dip at midday was 100% clear yet 2 hours later there were white cells present so god knows what is going on.

MissHinky · 17/06/2013 18:49

Thanks everyone for your comments re: starting maternity leave. Just wanted to gauge what others were doing due in the same month.

If I can make it to the end of July, that'll take me to around 36-37 weeks I think - Bearing in mind, I have insulin controlled GD, I'm now worried, they'll get me in at 38 weeks and I won't have much time at home before baby to get things sorted Hmm

MissHinky · 17/06/2013 19:14

IJustWoreMyTrenchcoat - I'm suffering from bladder problems as well. Sitting down / laying down is fine but walking is horrible as I have a constant pressure on my bladder - probably been like it for the last 4 weeks. Really gets me down at times - just want to be able to walk somewhere without the feeling :(

Jadems · 17/06/2013 19:23

Anyone else want the baby to stop squirming already?? 33 + 2 and movements are really uncomfortable now, can see the bump move with the movement, often see an elbow/knee/foot etc jab out, and strong enough to move anything on my lap with it. Aren't they meant to be getting into nice engaged position about now, and being constricted by lack of space??

Guess I just want baby born already now. After false labour scare at 30 weeks, which necessitated steroid injections, thought he would be here by now. Dismayed at the thought of 6/7 more weeks. Let alone the thought of going overdue. Had enough already.

Christelle2207 · 17/06/2013 19:51

I'll join you in the fed up club.
33plus 3

JRmumma · 18/06/2013 09:08

Glad all is ok babyhmummy

ijustworemytrenchcoat and misshinky - don't talk to me about bladder issues! Last night i got up from bed, went to the loo, got back in bed....and repeat, about 6 times in a row because i still felt like i needed to go. Strange though, that standing/walking is ok for me, its mainly laying and sometimes sitting that is worse for me.

christelle we went for a Hauck travel system in the end. I liked it coz it is simple to use, folds quite small and is quite light but still feels sturdy. Its fairly no frills though, so probably not everyone's cup of tea. There is so much choice out there that I think we will continue to wonder whether we made the right choice until we start using them but in sure that whatever you pick you have its pros and cons.
