Very early days but I'm due 26 January - really expecting early February after being 15 days late with DC1. Thought I'd get the ball rolling Grin

Anyone else?

gnittinggnome · 27/06/2013 12:02

Laura They can never find a vein for me, so I'm not looking forward to being poked and prodded either - hope it went well!

gnittinggnome · 27/06/2013 12:09

Hello all, quick question re scan dates etc: my brand new GP miscalculated my dates a little, taking it from probable conception instead of last period, which meant that my booking appointment will happen when I am about 12 weeks. I'm a bit worried that my scan appointment will be booked afterwards, so I'll have to wait another 4 weeks or so, by which point the nuchal test thingmabob may no longer be available. Should I call the antenatal clinic and ask them to book a scan in now, when it will be sooner, or wait? I've got three weeks to wait for my booking appointment, and their dates are only 2 weeks or so out (grrr silly GP) but I'm impatient!

Shropshiremummy2b · 27/06/2013 12:30

Laura0007 Please let us first timers know what happens.

gnittinggnome Youre not the only impatient one here- ring them! I would. I was planning to drive to the East Midlands, pick a random hospital, tell them my name is Laura0007 and hope that they'd see me instead! She's got the same due date as me and I have to wait another TWO WEEKS before my appt! Woe is me x

misskatamari · 27/06/2013 12:32

I'd probably ring and try to get one booked in early just to be on the safe side x

Somanychanges · 27/06/2013 12:39

Hi everyone,
Question for you all. What suplements are you taking? I was just taking pregnicare just bought it myself from chemist. Went to doctor and she prescribed me pregaday, which is iron and folic acid.

But I read the information leaflet and it says not for first trimester. Inly for after 13 weeks. Now I am not sure whether to stick with Pregnicare or take what the doctor has given me?

Somanychanges · 27/06/2013 12:41

Sorry that was meant to say 'only' not inly

laura0007 · 27/06/2013 12:53

Ha sorry Shropshire! Just use me as the guinea pig! They must be a bit slow on babies being born around here so they see you earlier Wink

Well the midwife was lovely, went through all my notes with me (all hundred pages of them) on illnesses/diseases in the family, have you ever had tb etc, previous pregnancies, went through what will happen at each appt. Then did my bloods (which I didn't pass out at Grin) and blood pressure and sent me on my way! Easy really.
I did query my scan date as ill only be 10+4 and she said dont say anything and ill end up getting an extra one if I want downs screening as they can't do the tests for it that early. Result!

laura0007 · 27/06/2013 13:11

Keep remembering things...

She also asked about whether I wanted downs screening, whether I'd thought about breast or bottle feeding. Next of kin, smoking (luckily I don't but if you do good luck as that page didn't look easy!) foods to avoid.

She didn't do my height or weight. And gave me a sample bottle to pee in for my scan. That's it I think

LovesToBake · 27/06/2013 13:19

Laura0007 great that you've had your booking in appointment, memories are all flooding back from mine with DC1. I have mine booked for when I'm just over 8 weeks so guessing the scan will then get booked in for 12 weeks. They can never find a vein in me either, had forgotten about that! I ended up having to go up to the hospital for blood tests last time as the midwife seemed pretty incompetent at doing it. Annoyingly, I think my booking in appointment is with the same incompetent midwife who I really didn't take to with my last pregnancy. Going to try and subtly find out which days she runs the clinic at my surgery and which days are covered by a different midwife and try and book subsequent appointments with the other one if poss.

gnittinggnome you're being so patient - I would definitely be hounding the GP to let them know about the mistake with the dates so that they bring forward your booking in appointment.

The nausea is pretty strong today - had a slightly tricky train journey to work but have been eating ever since (mostly carbs) which definitely helps keep the feelings at bay. Also drinking lemonade right now - I never normally drink fizzy drinks but it's really hitting the spot.

gnittinggnome · 27/06/2013 13:43

Right, I caved in and called them, and apparently 12 weeks is the timeframe they do booking appointments in. And the nuchal translucency test (which DH and I do definitely want) is done by somewhere else, and they will organise an appointment for that separately.

And, having gone through my leaflet on screening tests, it seems there are a few options for being tested if the NT test is no longer available, so fretting for nothing. But hey, still fretting! At least the lass on the phone was friendly and helpful. Smile

FizzlingFireboxes · 27/06/2013 13:54

Just awaiting the arrival of midwife for my booking in, not sure why I'm so nervous, I actually did another test this morning just in case I'd imagined the whole thing :o
I'm 8+4 according to my calculations, still have nausea, weird dizzy head and my tummy is massive. (Put on 5lbs already)
Fingers crossed there's just the one in there :)

Halfling · 27/06/2013 14:26

gnitting, I am taking Pregnacare and my MW today also said that it is a good supplement. So, I will continue with it.

She also asked my to cut down my tea to wither decaf or just 2 cups a day. On a regular day, I drink abut 5-6 cups and I think it will be pretty hard to cut down. I cannot focus without a cup of tea by my side.

LovesToBake · 27/06/2013 14:30

Halfling do you think it's the caffeine you need or do you just enjoy drinking a cuppa? Because if you haven't tried decaf I recommend you give it a go, I drink it all the time as my regular tea (regardless of when pregnant or TTC) and can't notice the difference. I also like Rooibos tea which is caffeine free although I know it's a bit of a love/hate one for most people.

I'm just taking folic acid and have been since a few months before we started TTC. What's in the Pregnacare supplement?

EeyoreIsh · 27/06/2013 14:43

halfing I was really addicted to tea, but cut it right down by changing to decaffeinated and Green, and just having the strategically important proper cups. It took a few weeks.

gnittinggnome · 27/06/2013 14:45

Halfling I gave up caffeine years ago (stress) and M&S decaf tea is a saviour! I've read in my "What to expect when you're expecting" that up to 200mg caffeine is considered safe, and that's maybe two or three cups of regular tea - maybe one perfect, quiet cup of tea first thing and then trick your mind with good decaf afterwards? Yorkshire Tea do a good decaf as well. Also if you want to take a straight edge approach, dark chocolate will also contain caffeine (but iron too!) One thing to watch out with is green tea - whilst it's got a very low caffeine content it can inhibit your absorption of iron, so one to avoid/drink less of. Rooibos and chamomile are also good, but I agree, nothing beats a good cup of builder's tea.

I'm taking Pregnacare as well, the original version, which has the all-essential folic acid as well as a general mix of vitamins, but no extra calcium (milkshakes and cocoa are my constant companions).

gnittinggnome · 27/06/2013 14:48

Sorry, Halfling also forgot to say, agreeing with Eeyore, cut it out over a few days else you'll get killer withdrawal headaches.

SherbertDip · 27/06/2013 14:54

Hi Everyone

Can I join in ? I am 5wks with DC2 and feeling mega sick today

Halfling · 27/06/2013 15:12

Welcome Sherbet! And thanks gnitting, Eeyore and Lovestobake for the decaf tea suggestions. I will definitely give it a go. The Bounty Information folder I got today from the MW contains PG tips decaf samples.

I am taking Pregnacare Plus with Omega 3. Remember reading somewhere the link between Omega 3 and less PND. But the jury is still out on that one.

LovesToBake · 27/06/2013 15:13

Welcome SherbertDip - we must be very similar, I think I'm 5+5 today, due around 20th Feb. What's your due date? With you on feeling sick - haven't actually been sick yet - checking back in my diary for DC1 I think I actually started throwing up after 6 weeks so have that joy to look forward to (although trying to stay positive that it might be different this time)!

TeaAddict235 · 27/06/2013 15:41

Hafling I'm craving a cuppa, but the smell of it has been making me sick for 2 weeks. I want one until I make one for DH, then whoosh, nausea arrives. I used to drink like 3 cups a day, now am drinking sparkling water and feeling sorry for myself.

Hello SherbertDip, nice name, I used to like eating those sweets out of the paper packets, and oh laudy, did I love wham bars. tasty!

Zazou1 · 27/06/2013 15:52

Have developed a craving for wham bars...had 2 earlier this week but promptly threw them both up! Lovely.

Bad day today-the tube is the devil. Had such a hot flush had to practically strip off to cool down which was v embarrassing THEN had a wave of sickness and had to jump off 2 flaming stops early and was late for my meeting...

Still not heard about my booking in appointment ....can't stand the wait Smile

SugarMiceInTheRain · 27/06/2013 16:10

Urgh. I have eaten all sorts of crap today that I fancied (but which made me feel worse for eating it) like pepperami . I don't know what to do for dinner as the thought of anything now is making me feel iffy, but I ought to eat something or I won't have the energy for tonight's performance. Maybe I'll just stick to my pepsi max which is the only thing I've consistently craved so far (though I may just have a caffeine addiction) Blush Still, I don't drink tea or coffee so am probably not over the recommended safe limit...

Thingymajigs · 27/06/2013 16:38

I'm so tired. Sad I have so much to do before the kitchen is ripped out tomorrow but I can't do the smallest thing without needing a sit down.
I'm currently sat on the floor after feeding the cats and the only thing that is making me want to move is the growing nausea caused by the smell of cat food. I can't wait for the first trimester to be over.
Sorry for the moan. Better get on with the packing.

ch1134 · 27/06/2013 17:19

Just thought I'd say how much better I am feeling now, in case it cheers any of you up. I haven't felt at all sick but for the past 2 weeks have been totally exhausted all the time. In the past 2 days though, I've returned to my normal self and managed a few hours gardening, as well as making dinner... So glad the crippling tiredness has passed... especially as I'm taking a school trip abroad next week!
I've had my first meeting with midwife and she wants to do a home visit on the next one and asked me to fill in all the forms by then. It asks for a lot of information about drinking/ smoking/ drugs now and in the past. I haven't done any of the above in years and years, but am wondering how much I really have to disclose?
I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow and feel human again!

sunflowered · 27/06/2013 17:19

thingy I'm with you on the tiredness. Nearly fell asleep in a meeting at work today... Me, my boss, and a director... Had to have a mug of full-caffeine coffee to get through the rest of the day. Haven't felt like this since I was a student and thought I was superhuman and could therefore function in a 1-1 tutorial hungover on 2 hours sleep Sad But at least I haven't actually been sick yet - for this I'm incredibly grateful. Thinking about everyone who's suffering Flowers
