Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
janey1234 · 06/06/2013 13:00

hazle that's exactly what I thought when I read about cavort (poor you) being sick. Maybe the first elderberry baby will be here sooner than we thought....

alex - welcome back, and moan away!

brave - at my last midwife appt I'd put on 2 kilos/4lbs in a week. One week later and I'm pretty much back to where I was - so 2 kilos less. Odd. But I guess it means don't panic too much about weight gain!

mother my bump went from looking like I was a bit of a greedy pig/podgy to a definite preggers bump at about 21 weeks, so much so that DP asked me if I was deliberately sticking my belly out one sunday. It will happen soon!

Saw the consultant this morning who was lovely. He has no objections to me having ecls, esp as blood pressure is up a bit more again today so still looking like I won't make term and may have to be induced beforehand. But he said most consultants aren't like him! He said that we need to jump through a few hoops to get me one, and that he'd do most of them for me in the background, but that I do have to go and see a consultant midwife responsible for "normality" who will try to talk me into early induction and natural birth. I said fine, I'll just go through all these logical, rational reasons I've listed with you, and all the stats I have to support this choice. He said that off the record, no, don't do that, and to just say that I'm really, really scared of a natural birth. He said it's just about box ticking and that will do the job! Hilarious. Anyway looks like on July 2nd (provisional date) might be the big day....

Interestingly, I did ask who was going to be doing it, and he explained that elcs are done by consultants (I suspect because a) they're usually for a complicated medical reason and b) they're at more sociable hours!) whereas emcs are done mainly by house officers and occasionally consultants... Weirdly feel reassured about that.

Purplemonster · 06/06/2013 14:27

Janey, 2nd July is my due date and unless anything changes that seems to be the day they plan to induce me...race you!

janey1234 · 06/06/2013 14:49

The race is on! Grin
Hmmm, they said they tend to do elcs in the afternoon, so you will prob have a head start. Having said that doesn't an elcs only take half an hour? Not sure it's a fair bet for you!

BraveLilBear · 06/06/2013 15:08

Awesome - loving a bit of competition on the baby eviction stakes Grin

From what I've read, if you're an ELCS, they get you in first thing in the morning and then you're on standby until a slot comes up, all depends on emergencies I think.

Very interesting that the most qualified people do the electives. You'd have thought they would be needed for emergencies??

Glad to hear the epic weight gain might not be a total disaster... Still not gone on my face or fingers, but do worry about my tummy - bump has been quite itchy today so I guess it's stretching. Fx the collagen stays intact Confused

Til then will scale back on nice food treats as a precaution

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 15:11

It's finally cherry season here and I'm eating them by truckloads. I think I'll just ignore the scale for the next couple of weeks.

Roll up roll up place your bets on either Purple or Janey... Or could there be a surprise outsider contender at alll - you never know!

My DP's niece had an elcs at 10am with her 3rd. We went to see her in the evening & I found it the oddest thing to know that someone was going to give birth at a specific time & we could just arrange to see them later that day!

Good news of the day is that the bra-fitting lady confirmed I have gone up a cup size - yay! Better try my bikinis on before hols to make sure they still fit! No news on job or house which is Angry.

Purplemonster · 06/06/2013 15:28

Well Hazle and Cavort are due before me and Janey anyway so if someone wants to set some odds we can all have a bet Grin
If my back pain keeps getting worse all of my ideas and principles will be out the window anyway and I'll be in the consultant's office on Thursday begging and crying for them to get the baby out now by any means just to stop the pain!

Alexandra6 · 06/06/2013 15:48

I'm usually massively competitive but this is one race I'll happily lose by a landslide Grin

Good news here is I got my sample results and my body has apparently cleared the UTI itself so no need for a course of antibiotics! (which is bloody lucky as it took the hospital so long to tell me I had it!)

janey I will be on hols woop (hopefully if cervix measures ok) when your baby comes, so funny you know what date it's likely to be!

BraveLilBear · 06/06/2013 16:31

Yay to magically disappearing UTIs! And double yay to cherry season Smile

My little monkey has got proper ants in its pants today - have been watching it roll back and forth across the top of my bump all day, and now has hiccups... worryingly though, its head seems to be on the right, not a million miles from my ribs judging by the hiccups!

Get down BabyBear!

Hope your back pain doesn't get any worse Purple what kind of back pain?

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 17:30

Good news Alex UTIs can be a such a pain (literally).

Yum cherries - I really want some now.

Have you thought about headstands brave?!

Isn't back pain a labour symptom or is that my early pg ignorance?

BraveLilBear · 06/06/2013 17:47

Lol - if I didn't have heartburn headstands may be an option! If Baby Bear is still floating/rolling around quite merrily in a couple of weeks, will step up the spinning babies tactics.

Lower back pain is a sign of labour I think... upper back pain is a sign of baby being in an awkward position, or simply body not used to hoiking around an extra stone and a half out front!

Lower back pain can also be a sign of UTI, PGP and other such exciting pregnancy symptoms! Such fun Grin

Apologies for the whinges Frog please don't be put off, it's fab really.... it's just bloomin uncomfy at times!

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 18:18

Well as DP keeps reminding me its a bit late to change my mind now!

Purplemonster · 06/06/2013 18:20

Yes unfortunately it's not 'I'm in labour' kind of back pain, it's all in the back of my ribs from all this extra weight pulling my back into even more of a curve than normal. I've had it forever for weeks and its getting worse. I have asked OH to shoot me and out me out if my misery but he keeps saying no the swine. The Osteopath keeps saying 'oh it is really tight isn't it, your back has really locked up, it must be really painful' then doesn't make any difference to the pain and charges me a feckin fortune anyway, grrr

Glad to hear about your magically disappearing UTI Alex.

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 21:15

Oh dear. DP & I just had the row about the baby's surname again. He just doesn't want to in my opinion compromise by using both names & I think he's being unreasonable in just wanting to use his. He gets into such a huff every time. AIBU?!

Cavort · 06/06/2013 21:19

YANBU Frog. Why does he think his name should take priority over yours? This is not 1926.

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 21:21

Well if he does not like both then it should be only yours, of course. When he incubates and squeezes a baby out, that one can have only his name. Sounds fair to me.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 06/06/2013 21:35

I feel your pain on that one Frog, we still haven't resolved this issue in our house yet, we just stopped discussing it to save arguments but we really need to make a decision soon but I keep chickening out avoiding bringing it up.

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 21:36

Now I feel bad as he just came in & said I was right & baby could just have mine as he didn't want it to have both. We'll change it when we get married. Thing is mine is really really boring which was why I wanted both! Should be careful what I wish for...

Cavort · 06/06/2013 21:36

A first name that is!

Cavort · 06/06/2013 21:49

Frog do you think he's saying that hoping you'll back down and agree to go with his?

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 22:00

Interesting cavort I think that is good ammunition for me against DP's preference for Darcey for a girl. If poor mite is just getting my name at first it's going to need an interesting first name!

Frogcatcher · 06/06/2013 22:04

You might be right cavort as he's still in a mood. My preference would be for both but I'd go for mine over just his so that will backfire.

Purplemonster · 06/06/2013 22:26

It's difficult because I want to keep my name even when we get married really and I know he would really like us to all have his name but I just want to keep my own and I want the baby to have my name. I know he'll quietly feel really hurt about it though which isn't what I want it's not easy is it.

Cavort · 06/06/2013 23:35

No it's definitely not easy and I'm relieved it's a situation I'm not in as I know I would be standing my ground like you both are.

Mt friend has compromised with her DP that they're not D-Bing but baby will have her last name as his middle name.
