Bella,

I would dismiss the horror stories as an elective c-section (which I had last time) is a completely different thing to an emergency c-section after labour has failed or when baby is at risk. If you have a low lying placenta they may well offer you an elective c-section and it's really nothing to be scared of.

I was up and about quickly and driving in just under 3 weeks and the pain was negligible compared to other post op surgical pain I have experienced.

They have already diagnosed that you have a low lying placenta and will be looking out for any associated problems so I'm sure yoou're in good hands.

Homemama, I was very sick at the weekend and Monday but it must have been due to the flu bug as I'm eating O.K. again now and not taking any drugs, so I'm pleased with myself.
Still haven't got back to my initial weight but a current craving for chocolate and a summer of ice-creams may well take over my life to bad effect.

I am going to search eBay for the second edition of the BW book that you recommended.

Hope everyone is keeping healthy and feeling lots of movement. I'm worried that ds2 (as this baby will become) is going to be hyperactive and a poor sleeper as the amount of movement, day and night is incredible, so much more than I felt with ds 1, although I suppose it could be due to position in the womb or something.

Norms - thanks for the reassurance. You are totally right, I think it must be hormones making me dwell on things as normally I am not a worry sort of person...........I guess that is parenthood!

Hi all!

Blimey - it is sunny here today - at last!!! I have even managed to get some washing on the line!
I am getting lots of movement between 9.30 and 10pm every night - I assume that is gong to be feeding time for him!
Lysettes - well done on taking the plunge!
We are going to attempt the Ikea sale this evening while my mum babysits - we need a new wardrobe and may buy DS a bed, so we can get him out of his cot once and for all - wish me luck....!

Bella - I guess it's a bit like me with the high blood pressure and the (now i've had both scans) 90% risk of pre eclampsia - they know what they're looking out for so can monitor you so well.

i got the helios homeopathy childbirth kit this week (such a sucker for other MN threads and recommendations!) - certainly looks interesting and for help with bruising, contractions, non dilation etc. will have a closer look and post a long post about what it says.

haven't been caught in the rain yet today so things going well! lets see how i get on at anc today.... bet i end up arriving looking like a drowned rat Grin

Hi everyone!

Nice to have a new thread.

Ds and I've spend the last 5 days or so in Ireland visiting my family. Lovely restful time and ds was a star. We have a 2 week holiday with dh starting on Tuesday (not going far) which I'm really looking forward to. Feel like I've not seen much of dh for weeks.

I feel a lot bigger in the past few days, but thankfully the pelvic/hip pain is easing. Lots of strong kicks. 5am to 6.30am is currently an awake time - that'd better not continue!!

TopBanana well done on passing your theory test.

Cori - I hope you're having a lovle time in Madrid

Marls - I totally understand your feeling overwhelmed. I have waves of that too. Especially if I've slept badly.

Mabel - happy sale shopping and I hope the transition from cot to bed for your ds is smooth!

Hi all,

Things have been pretty hectic over the last week or so and I haven't had chance to come online until now.
Things are going ok this end. I haven't heard any more from my ex so I'm starting to relax again. I saw my midwife yesterday and everything is fine. My blood pressure is slightly raised again but that's not really surprising! I can start going to classes in July but as they're all on a Monday evening - the only evening I can't do, I'll have to wait until August. LO seems to be kicking quite hard now although still not as often as I'd thought. Ice cream seems to make LO shift quite a lot though Grin
Other than that I'm just trying to keep busy.
It's sunny here today too, I just hope it lasts now!
P.S, what do we all think of Geri Halliwell's choice of name for her daughter - Bluebell Madonna. What would you shorten it to? Grin

Hi ladies! What a week! Haven't been on as been sitting next to DS in hospital cot :( - poor little guy's croup developed into pneumonia on tuesday and after he turned blue while sat in high chair, I decided he needed to go see a medic. Got to say - all staff on children's ward have been angels. However, I NEVER EVER want to see my baby that colour again, don't think I've ever been so scared in all my life! Anyway, over now, home, DS in bed, glass of wine, all relatives rung and reassured... can breathe again...!

On a lighter note - to all taking (or thinking of taking) their driving tests/lessons while pregnant - good luck! I'm not being at all sarcastic by the way, really mean it. I did my test when 36 wks with DS after a week long intensive course (6hrs/day for 5 days - test on friday pm) and passed first time! I think it's a great time to do it because you're so focused and there's an urgency about needing to pass as after baby comes there just won't be time - also I think the examiners might be a bit more likely to go easy on you :o

Wow Liquid – so glad everything turned out okay.

Bella - Re: “Bluebell Madonna” … LOL, Cori, I agree!! Reminds me of the cow spokesanimal for “Bluebell Ice Cream.”

Mabel – Have fun! I miss our Houston IKEA!! It was 10 min. from our house … and now the nearest one’s 5 hours away! Sad Re: breasts; I know … enlargement seems fairly stupid, doesn’t it?

Lysettes – Looking forward to your posting! It’s wonderful you’re learning to drive. Re: DH, I would’ve been asleep by 10 & let him be locked out Grin

Thanks everyone for support/understanding for this occasional emotional craziness … I am usually such a brain-led person it’s really throwing me off. It’s been good for me to know it's just normal right now.

Another unbelievable c-section statistic – rate in Guadalajara, Mexico (according to a friend who is from there) – 80% (she said maybe higher, but I can’t imagine). She had her DD in the States, vaginal birth, but has no friends in Mexico who've had vaginal birth, and yes, they do C-sections at 36 weeks to “save the stomach.” Shock
She is the one who had the miscarriage, but is now doing really well, and we had dinner the other night as we’ve partnered up to plan all Moms’ Nights Out this year for our local Moms’ Club. She wants to do a party with margaritas and a piñata. She loves to have fun and I’m so glad she’s back to herself.

Homemama – anything to help, and thank you for the BW information.

We're going to Kansas City this weekend for the long Memorial Day holiday. Grin

Glad everyone is doing well, getting lots of movement etc. This little one seems to have a routine too ( hope it lasts Grin).
Saw mw yesterday & still measuring a tad bigger than dates. Can't believe how quickly these pg's are going. Before we know where we are we'll have our little bundles GrinGrinGrin.
Got so excited with the gorgeous weather yesterday! Now look at it!

Liquidclocks, sorry to hear that your ds has been so poorly. I'm glad he's on the mend now.

Hellkat, I saw the midwife yesterday too but I've got the oposite poblem, my bump is measuring small for dates and I'm convinced something is wrong with my lo (God pg women are paranoid!).

Having a bit of a tough time at the mo. I'm really tired and very emotional. Have eventually decided to give vbac a go, but since making the decision keep getting really vivid flashbacks of ds's birth and remembering how close we came to losing him and I'm terrified that the same thing is going to happen and they won't be able to save my little girl. It's really only just hit home that this is real and we're having another baby and I love her so much already that I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her. Rationally I know that it's unlikely and that I should go on and have a perfectly normal healthy birth, but try telling a tired and emotional pg woman to be rational!

Sorry to offload, dh thinks that if we talk about the bad things that could happen my negative thinking will make them happen, so it's nice to have a place to talk things through x

Good morning all you lovely round ladies, hope you are all really well today.
I need some help and advice about clothes. I want a couple of pairs of comfortable all purpose trousers/jeans, a pair of not too short shorts, and knickers. Not big knickers, or thongs, or ones that won't make my c-section scar itch, and preferably they stay put too. Any recommendations on brands or where to look? Am getting quite fed up with failure now.

Hello! Thanks for sympathy, we're settling back into home routine now, stroppy toddler mode is now firmly re-established!

Appyday - I've been shopping at dorothy perkins and H&M and their clothes have been comfy and stay up (unlike my blooming marvellous jeans Blush!)

Calvemjoe - sorry to hear you're measuring small - remind me how your scan went though as surely that's more of an accurate picture of how baby's doing? Could your midwife arrange another scan for you if you're worried - my hospital's really good about doing that, after all, reassuring you and keeping you happy is one of the best ways of making sure things go as well as possible so it's best for them too.

hi everyone!
Liquid - I am so sorry to hear about your lo - but glad you are all back home and recovering.
Appyday - I bought some maternity knickers from Tesco last time, just plain white cotton and quite loose but not baggy - just bkini style.
I got some longish (knee length) shorts from New look they are not maternity, but are stretch denim, I just bought a size up and they are dead comfy.
Calve - I don't think you're being negative, it is normal to be concerned , especially after a traumatc birth 1st time round.
My nipples are driving me mad they feel hot and itchy all the time - not pleasant - Please tell me it's not just me??
Cori - I know it's not easy with a lo, but am still jealous of the heat - it is cold wet and miserable here - AGAIN!

Liquid, my midwife's not worried, just me! she move all the time and my scans were both normal so I just have to trust she's ok. Just spoken to 2 of my friends who are also measuring small so a bit more relaxed about it now ( I'm only really stressed instead of really really stressed!)
Mable, thanks for reassuring me. As for nipples, are you moisturising? Mine drive me mad if I don't moisturize twice a day. HTH

Gosh Liquidclocks! Glad your lo is home and on the mend now.
Calvemjoe, if you feel you'd like to try for a vbac then you absolutely should give it a go. Try not to worry. As long as they know your history and you also make them aware of your anxiety then I'm sure they'll take no chances. Have you seen the consultant to discuss your decision/options? They could perhaps agree to early monitoring of the baby just for your reassurance. DS wasn't monitored at all but I know that some units are more keen on monitoring than others so that may be worth exploring.

Appyday, re clothes, last time I had jeans from blooming marvellous and next. Neither were very good and always fell down. This time I've bought some from dorothy perkins and they seem to fit much better. I also tried on a nice bootleg pair fromthe new M&S maternity range. I'm also finding the cotton shorts style knickers from M&S are fitting me well this pg even though I'm huge!

Talking of size, I seem to have spread all over this pg. Last time I was just a massive bump, this time I'm a massive bump with a massive bum too! Blush Grin DH, in an attempt to make me feel better said, 'it's because you had tummy muscles and a pert bum last time.' Shock He meant well, bless him! Grin

Mabel - re nipples, not just you! :)

Calvemjoe - It's OK to be worried I think but just try to trust the scans and midwife, you don't want to give yourself high BP along with everything else. I think it's natural to be anxious even when you know everything's fine - I was really small with DS1 and was told he'd be a small baby - HA! - he was 8lbs 11 AND his head didn't mould - ouch! My mum was told the same thing about my little bro who was born a month early and still weighed 7lbs+! We're all different - the measurements are only averages :)

Hi girls!

I looked after my friends 12 week old dd this morning and she was so ADORABLE I just want mine now! Mind you I almost died carrying the carseat and baby into toddlers - carseat is seriously heavy. I had the wheels in the boot so I really shouldn't have been lifting it...

Liquidclocks so sorry about your ds. that sounds really scary. glad he's better.

Cal sorry you're feeling anxious.

appyday I saw lovely shorts in a New Look maternity range. My Next jeans don't stay up and are doing my head in. Thankfully I have some from last time that'll fit my soon. I got gorgeous linen trousers from H&M with a jersey top that are really comfy. last time I bought tesco bikini briefs (not maternity) in the bigger size to normal and they were fine. Must get some more.

I see the midwife later this afernoon. they've fitted me into the end of the clinic so I bet I have a HUGE wait and have to take 3yo ds with me. COuld be fun...

Appyday - Mothercare under the bump knickers are the best that I have found. Otherwise, Blooming Marvellous are not the best for jeans, alas, because they seem to stock the widest range. Mine keep falling down and the side elasticy bits have now ripped as I kept tugging them up.

Otherwise, on the pricey side (but they do have a sale on at the moment) you can't beat Isabella Oliver for comfy & stylish. Without wanting to sound too much like an advert, I have just discovered them in my second pregnancy and they are a lifesaver for clothes. Really cool & comfy jersey, nice colours, stuff you'd want to wear whether pregnant or not ... just fab. on the downside, they do seems to do less of everything, so you can't get jeans etc there, as they only do clothes in jersey fabric.
