thanks everyone, I pm'd and she is ok. sensitive but ok.

I ate like a pig at lunchtime but had zero appetite this evening...

flipflump · 23/05/2013 23:07

It's such a sensitive issue, I have one friend who has fertility issues, unfortunately she will never be able to carry her own child, very sad and they'd be the most wonderful parents. I was very anxious about telling her but she has been wonderful and is happy for us. She has a heart of gold! Because of this we've not done a big FB announcement and I feel like its helping me not become public property.

Is anyone else snoring? My DH had to bail out to the spare room last night, said I sounded like an elephant! How embarrassing, I've never been a snorer - until now Confused

SGJ · 23/05/2013 23:22

My sister took 6 years, 2 ectopic pregnancies and a failed round of IVF before having her miracle baby, and whilst my pregnany was all wonderful in the end (she delivered my DD), when I first told her she didn't take it well at all and there were a few not at all cryptic posts on Facebook about 'ruining her happiness' before sAndes able to take stock and became the best aunt ever... so I know very well how people with fertility issues can react to pg news, whether family or long-distant acquaintance, but everyone's right, you can't put your life and happiness on hold because of their very unfortunate situation.

On a totally gross and TMI note, I don't have boob leakage but can make them ooze if I squeeze like I used to when expressing. So gross but so satisfying!! And no painful BH but lots of rock hard belly after exercise.

SGJ · 23/05/2013 23:28

Oh and Creamtea - sorry to hear you're also dealing with insensitive muppets... Though today the same gobby colleague actually asked how many weeks I was and when I said 26, looked totally embarrassed and said "oh my God, that's such a neat bump then, I didn't realise you were that far along!" HA HA HA. (I didn't feel it was necessary to say that I was a million miles smaller at this stage with the first one, would have ruined my smug moment somewhat)

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/05/2013 06:49

Blimey, this thread moves fast! Will come back and read fully, but I just wanted to answer joskar about SPD. I had it with my 1st pregnancy, and walking or twisting often felt like I was being stabbed!

I found that bump bands etc helped, although more with the back pain. Try avoiding too many movements that twist your pelvis, or pull your legs in different directions, like big strides, or trying to get a heavy shopping trolley to turn. A plastic bag over the car seat makes it MUCH easier to get in as you can sit down facing outwards, then lift your legs in and spin round to face the front, keeping your knees together. My hips are getting a bit achey again now at nearly 24 weeks, but I've been doing the buddha bellies yoga dvd and so far it's been helping. Don't over stretch though, as that will make it worse. I also got through paracetamol at a rate, on the advice of my GP. I'd take 2 before bed, then later, before walking anywhere, and in the last couple of weeks, every 6 hours.

The good news is, I don't even remember having SPD symptoms after DD was born, and I've had no problems since, so it all just seemed to snap back into place. :)

Readytosettle · 24/05/2013 06:54

Apparently I've started snoring Blush and TMI but I get the biggest chunks of snot when I blow my nose! Gross.

jennimoo · 24/05/2013 07:05

DH hasn't complained of snoring but I'm very snotty too so wouldn't be surprised...

Kittenkatzen · 24/05/2013 07:31

Oh god yy to being snotty - it's like having a permanent cold, but without the actual cold. I've had it pretty much from the start, assumed it was just me though!

TripleRock · 24/05/2013 10:23

Me too, snoring and congested. I even let out a snore at my desk at the other day. I was awake, I promise!

Mooster1709 · 24/05/2013 10:40

Looking for some advice...

I have a second hand moses basket and carry cot and need to buy new mattresses for them. But will any new mattress do, or do they need to have particular safety standards?

For the moses basket I think I can get one that fits in John Lewis, so I'm pretty confident that that will be ok, but for the carry cot I think I'd have to get one made/cut/on ebay to fit (it's for an iCandy Apple) - how do I know if these would be safe?

Am I being mental??

Mooster1709 · 24/05/2013 10:55

And yes to snoring - DH can't sleep in the same room as me. I actually woke myself up with the noise the other night...

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 24/05/2013 12:20

not mental, mooster! I am looking for replacement moses / cot mattresses and will probably start at kiddicare.com - they have a mattress section which seems to do all the standard sizes including pram carrycot.

CharlW1 · 24/05/2013 12:34

I'm starting to feel more tired too Flo last night I went to the cinema with friends to see the Great Gatsby - I fell a sleep for a good hour and a half of it! thank goodness for 3D glasses as they hid the fact I was asleep so everyone was oblivious that I'd had a good snooze Blush

herewego2 · 24/05/2013 13:30

Sleeping rocks!! Let's get it on now while we can. I am absolutely thrilled with the instant relief from Mothercare Support Bump Band, £12 and I don't think I'm ever going to take it off again....

RunningBear78 · 24/05/2013 14:51

Purple we also bought new knobs for a dresser for the baby's room - first and only thing we've done! Currently has towels and linen in so need to find a new home for all that guff.

Had an interesting experience this morning. Went for a little swim, which was fine, but the changing rooms were so hot that afterwards when i was trying to get dry and dressed i came over all hot, really sweaty and faint! had to run my head and wrists under the cold tap but didn't help much, had to put minimum clothing on and stand outside in the cold. I honestly thought i was going to pass out, and then spent all morning feeling a bit dizzy. All very strange, and not really sure what brought it on. I always find the changing rooms quite warm, but this was rediculous. Anyone any idea why? I might mention it to the mw next week when i see her. Think I might avoid that pool in future ...

TripleRock · 24/05/2013 15:36

So MW measured bumpzilla and says I'm within normal for 2nd pregnancy, but she's going to measure me again at 26 weeks just to keep an eye on me.

Baby is lying transverse, so that might be why I'm feeling so stretched!

LCR77 · 24/05/2013 15:44

At what stage do I need to worry about no movement from baby? I'm almost 25 weeks and haven't felt anything internally, occasionally think I can feel something late at night when I put my hands on my bump. I do have low lying anterior placenta and know this accounts for not feeling anything. Got mw appt next week should I just raise it with her? Don't want to come across as neurotic crazy pregnant lady Confused

How's everyone getting along with baby name shortlists? DP not being v helpful, every time I ask get a blank 'not thought of any'. V frustrating. We have managed to decide on a middle name which is a bonus Smile.

Creamtea1 · 24/05/2013 15:52

Runningbear - I have that both in pregnancy and normally, have actually passed out a couple of times from it. Went to the doctors and was told its a combination of low blood pressure, heat, and a rush of blood to the head.

fl0b0t · 24/05/2013 17:08

LCT77 you will never sound mad to a midwife- mine told me that a lady called on the emergency number once to find out if she could paint her toenails! My husband asked about whether it was ok for the cat to sit on my bump :-)

In terms of baby names, we have first names sorted, but stuck on middle names. Unfortunately we're watching the Giro d'Italia (loooove cycling) so husband is only managing amusing foreign names..... Igoi, Gorkei, Jorge..... we're doomed! :)

Readytosettle · 24/05/2013 17:09

LCR I'm sure it's fine....the mw will be able to listen for the hb next week so hopefully that'll set ur mind at rest. I tend to get a lot of movement late at night (11pm) too...and when ur lying down it's more feel able on the outside than in. I feel it more inside if I'm wearing tight clothing or leant forward so my womb is all cramped (obviously that means I'm crushing the poor fella but he seems to survive ok!).

I think I've got my heart set on a name now, but DH likes process & apparently he hasn't finished compiling the list yet....no doubt we will have to apply an algorithm to it & follow a series of logical tests before he finally let's the heart rule!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/05/2013 20:51

Ready tell him logic dictates not to argue with a pregnant woman with her heart set on something! Grin

DH and I settled on a girls name straight away again, middle name too. Just hope it suits her when she arrives.

herewego2 Was it this one? If so, is it quite stretchy and snug? I got bump bands from H&M this time, and I'm not overly impressed. They need to be stretchier and tighter to be more supportive.

CharlW1 · 24/05/2013 20:54

Feeling fedup and emotional tonight. OH went to pub after work for 1 and said he would bring tea back with him - phones me at 20:00 to say he is having a couple more and do I mind getting my own tea. There's nothing to eat in the house - hence why he suggested bringing fish and chips back tonight! Honestly why do men just not think sometimes - other than about themselves. Now it's a Friday night in by myself with no tea!

PurplePoppySeed · 24/05/2013 22:05

That's hilarious runningbear glad it's not just me :)

I'm also hot and sweaty all the time at the moment! Think its just that stage of pregnancy yuk!

herewego2 · 24/05/2013 22:34

Mrs Mango, its this highly attractive item: www.mothercare.com/Blooming-Marvellous-Maternity-Support-Belt/527413,default,pd.html
I'm sure my DH will be really turned on.... can't say I mind too much at the moment though.
CharlW1 - bet you were really looking forward to your chippy tea....he may just pull something out of the bag or do some serious creeping tomorrow while you flounce about with your nose in the air????

jennimoo · 25/05/2013 05:12

Herewego - that support belt looks ace, I think I'll be getting one!

And for mattresses I'd recommend checking:
babymattressesonline.co.uk/
We had a cot and basket from free cycle last time around so just threw away the old mattresses and got new ones from here. We also got one for the travel cot: folds in half and comes with a zip up bag.
