New thread! May it bring lots of good news, funny stories and happy bump mummies!

OP posts:

Flip, they measure your fundal height, that is from the top of your uterus down to your pubic bone.

But to be honest, I wish I hadn't tried a bit of DIY measuring, as after all I'm not trained and could easily be measuring last night's pasta for all I know!

Must admit, I think I'm way up past belly button at this stage... Have texted MW to see if she'll measure me properly on Friday.

I'm geniunely worried that I seem so massive :(

KamikazeeKid · 21/05/2013 13:00

To be fair with ds 1 I only looked at childminders when he was 10 months old and nursery places this January but for a Sept 14 start. I've got childminders sorted just cos its the same childminders I use now

I've def had fewer midwife checks unlike 2 year ago....but friends are on first children and they have fewer checks. I was measured throughout with ds but am 25 weeks and still untouched!!

Kittenkatzen · 21/05/2013 13:01

I've also not even glanced at nursery place, although tbh am hoping not to need one. Tempting fate by not covering our arses though Confused

Mooster1709 · 21/05/2013 14:34

I didn't get measured at my 24 week appointment either but am curious... They're scanning me at 28 weeks to check growth though (thyroid problem), so I suppose I can wait until then. Am always convincing myself that I've got gestational diabetes too Flipflump, but mainly because I'm SO thirsty all the time at present.

Picked up my buggy last night (an ebay bargain) - my first proper bit of baby kit. I am strangely excited by it (DH insisted on putting it in the garage - I wanted it pride of place in the living room). Am going to try to strip it all down and wash it tonight, although it seems in brilliant condition.

Also though, I don't think I really realised quite how BIG buggies are - I needed a 3-wheeler/off road one but supposedly this is a pretty compact/lightweight model for an off-roader (icandy Apple Jogger). Not completely convinced it's going to fit in to my boot, even though I did measure up beforehand!

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 14:35

Re measuring etc - I had my 24 week midwife appt yesterday (baby no 3) and she didn't measure - I asked and she said it was too early, would be done at next appt at 28 weeks. As well as more bloods being done :-(

Mooster1709 · 21/05/2013 14:37

On another note, someone in work has just said, as if it were a compliment: 'oh look, you've got the prgnancy waddle!' followed by a demonstration of said waddle. Up until now I thought I looked vaguely like a normal person, with a bump. It seems not. (I do have SPD/pelvic girdle pain though, so am mainly blaming this).

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 15:27

Sympathy mooster - someone at school started to comment about a waddle the other day, but I pulled out one of my best death stares and they changed the subject! Wink

I got the free boots parent club changing bag today, it's nothing to get too excited about but worth it as a freebie. I used the 50p off pampers voucher they sent me too so I got a pack of newborn nappies plus changing bag for £3.24.
(Reminisces to the old days when said free bag was also full of lovely free samples..sigh)

kipsonline · 21/05/2013 16:43

Bizarrely, I was measured (routinely, I didn't ask) at 24 weeks. My bump is huge but the fundus height was normal. We also had to book this baby into nursery before we'd even announced to parents, crazy world! Ours is £43 a day...eek! Although I'm now considering a childminder instead, who would collect from school so all 3 boys could be together. Decisions decisions!!

HettySunshine · 21/05/2013 17:17

I was measured at my 21 week appointment and she said it was exactly right. The midwife also showed me with the measuring tape hoe big I will at full term .

badguider · 21/05/2013 17:22

Those measured - were you lying on your back or standing up? My bump almost disappears still when I lie on my back... though it's pretty obvious now sitting up.

weebarra · 21/05/2013 17:37

I was measured last week (24 week appt) and all fine. They always do it lying down.

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 18:27

If I remember rightly in the notes it says that's you should be 'semi recumbent' to be measured

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 21/05/2013 18:51

Triple, I've had 24 week appt in this (second) pg and also got a date for 28 week appt including bloods.

jennimoo · 21/05/2013 20:18

I was told I could have a 24 week appointment for dc2 but that it wasn't 'necessary' this time. I said I was happy to wait til 28 and would call if I had any concerns. 2 weeks today to the appointment :)

My bump this pg is definitely huge: some tops I wore to work in my last weeks last time are getting snug already...

Keepsmilingsunshine · 21/05/2013 21:12

I've been measured at 16 weeks + 22 weeks so far (now 23+4). My bump is huge! I seem to have had a real growth spurt this week, but measure spot on for dates.

The weeks are whizzing by, is anyone else finding this? I have done nothing towards getting ready for this baby, not brought one single item! This is, however, DC2 so have stuff in the loft waiting to be sorted - just seems to early to start getting it all out.

KamikazeeKid · 21/05/2013 21:27

Keepsmiling I am the same...done nothing really. Got my newborn neutral bits out and thats it...thinking about hospital bag and leaving half of what I packed first time. - Out!

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 21:42

Also ladies, can we just mention 'Klau Rooney' Shock shoot me down but that name and its spelling is awful.. What I will give Coleen respect for though is having him naturally, at an nhs hospital, and coming home less than 12 hrs later. And refreshingly natural post birth photos. But the name!

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 21:42

I meant klay - stupid iPhone auto correct

CharlW1 · 21/05/2013 22:27

I agree Creamtea it is an odd choice and an odd spelling! but loved the natural photos too - such a lovely family photo.

Joskar · 21/05/2013 22:39

Has anyone else got SPD/pelvic girdle pain? I went to the physio on Monday and she told me that "a bit of back pain" was normal in pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy so maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't feel normal that I can't walk across a room. I left the physio's in tears and I'm feeling so helpless.

The physio gave me a support belt to go with the tubi-grip that the midwife gave me. It helps a little bit but I'm still in pain all the time. I mean all the time. Has anyone got any suggestions? Do I have to be in pain until September? Is there anything I can do?

Readytosettle · 22/05/2013 06:55

Definitely worth a visit to a chiropractor who does acupuncture Joskar. Pilates is also good. My chiro keeps re-aligning my hips which seems to be the cause of the pain, normally when I go in he lays me down & checks and one leg looks longer than the other. I haven't really had much back pain since he's been regularly re-setting my joints.

Just get a lot of pain down the sides of my bump when I'm on my feet too long now, but I think that's the strain of the bump so am buying a support belt to see if that helps.

jennimoo · 22/05/2013 06:59

I'm getting a lot of 'bump ache', I think it's the tummy muscles. Bending down is very uncomfortable. Would a bump band / support belt help do you think? Hasn't considered it til I read ready's post, but was getting me down as seems far too early not to be able to bend down!

Kittenkatzen · 22/05/2013 07:22

I'm getting a bit of back ache too mostly if i stay in one position for too long, particularly standing. I think it might be postural though as if I lean forward and round my back out it eases quite a bit - maybe I'm poking my bump out subconsciously? Def recommend Pilates or preg yoga, although if it's that bad you can't walk across a room then I agree a trip to a chiro is required - you can't put up with that for another 3.5 months Thanks

Kittenkatzen · 22/05/2013 07:25

Oh and jenni the bump ache can be so uncomfortable can't it? I had to walk the mike and a bit to the station at a pretty brisk pace last night a I was running late - by the time I got there the bump was rock hard and so sore! I don't think a bump band will necessarily help much (the kind I have isn't particularly supportive) but maybe a support band is the way forward?

fl0b0t · 22/05/2013 09:17

Also getting some bump ache when I walk (not stopping me though!).

Is it just me or is this info useless? It's my hispitsls info about antenatal nhs classes... http://www.frimleypark.nhs.uk/services/parent-education-workshops. Am I being thick or is there no booking info?

Feeling a bit grumpy about my second hand pram system. Front suspension is disgust and with the flat travel cot thingy on and the weight far forwards, the wheels rub on the frame and sometimes get stuck. Feeling a bit stupid for being excited about my bargain now. Have contacted the company (hauck) to see if they can help. I'm v practical and would fix it but everything permanently riveted on rather than screws or anything you can undo :(

Also feeling a bit stressed st being compared to another pregnant lady at work. We had a meeting in the common room at work on soft chairs the other day and I made a joke about possibly not being able to get back up and was told "well xxxx doesn't seem to have a problem with it". :( why is pregnancy (and everything else) always a competition?
