New thread! May it bring lots of good news, funny stories and happy bump mummies!

OP posts:

Sorry to hear about the pgp and back pain.
I'm not suffering myself but immobility is one of my greatest fears so I've been going to two different types of pregnancy yoga per week (Tuesday and Thursday) and having a pregnancy massage every 8 weeks.
I can highly recommend both for jut releasing the muscle tightness you get as your ligaments relax and keeping you aligned.

Readytosettle · 22/05/2013 09:47

I feel like the bump ache is because of the weight of the baby pulling on my obliques. Def hurts more if I walk far/fast. I've ordered a cantaloupe belt from amazon so will let u know how I get on!

kipsonline · 22/05/2013 10:02

I would also recommend pregnancy acupuncture for pelvic and hip pain. I went last night after overdoing walking/cycling/swimming with 2 DS lately and I can really feel the difference this am. The one I went to specialises in antenatal acupuncture so knew where to put needles in for exact stage if pg etc, and was also v relaxing.... Bonus !! Am going to go every 3 wks now to help with fluid retention, veins, energy, baby growth and aches. If she can tackle all of that it will be £ well spent!!!!!

Joskar was your physio a specialist maternity one? I have SPD, and my GP referred me to a particular maternity physio saying that a normal one wouldn't really know what to do. Even so, I got the impression from the physio that all I could do was take lots of paracetamol, use the girdle thing (lovely), and not do things that aggravate it (i.e. walking, in my case). She suggested swimming and pilates, though I haven't tried either yet...

It's horrible isn't it? I can cope at present but am hoping it doesn't get worse as things progress.

Someone else I know who had SPD recommended a chiropractor, so might be worth a try?

Creamtea1 · 22/05/2013 12:02

Flobot I am going to have to break it to you that pregnancy is only the start of the competition...Hmm
This is why when you go to NCT classes and the like you have to keep alert to any potential 'friends' that you might be better without...you have got competitive childbirth, breastfeeding, sleeping thru, weight loss, baby rolling over, baby sitting up, teeth, crawling, walking, potty training, eating, talking and I could go on forever here as with an 8 year old it still goes on.... You need to weed out anyone with potential for this competitive parenting thing and avoid

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 22/05/2013 12:14

I have a cross-board whinge to get out of my system...

Last night I posted a thread in baby names (clearly my first mistake!) asking thoughts on a couple of unisex names that I am drawn to (Laurie, Jamie). I see this morning that apparently I am "mad and teary" in the final few weeks. Huh???

I have also been getting a bit of bump pain now and again. I agree it's the strain of hauling it around all day :) but when it gets me is turning over in bed and it sort of drags down and seems to pull the muscle. Oh well. I've missed a couple of pilates classes sheer laziness and keep meaning to find some on YouTube that I could follow - anyone got recommendations?

Kittenkatzen · 22/05/2013 12:59

rake I just read your thread and posted in defence of you Smile not sure what the other poster was on about?!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 22/05/2013 13:13

thanks Kitten!! I was just going to ignore, but it's nice to be defended!

RunningBear78 · 22/05/2013 14:36

rake the dreaded baby name threads! i posted in there, then after some lovely posts got the inevitable flood of 'sounds like a chavvy name' sigh. at which point i stopped checking up and wondered about how to delete a thread!

on that front ... have you got names for incoming (outcoming!?) babies?

joskar the advice from your physio sounds totally inapproprite. yes i gather spd can be painful, but there certainly are things that can be done to help. have a hunt around for a maternity physio specialist, but also do consider a yoga/pilates class as those exercises do really help.

Kittenkatzen · 22/05/2013 14:46

runningbear we have got a first and middle name for if it's a girl that we both LOVE.....boys names are proving much harder though - which is tricky as we're both convinced baby is a boy at the moment!

juniper9 · 22/05/2013 15:38

Kim I'm from didsbury too Smile Have you seen

badguider · 22/05/2013 15:57

I'm wearing 'proper' maternity trousers today for the first time that go over the bump and it feels very unsupported - going back to my 'under teh bump' jeans tomorrow as I didn't realise but it seems they've been holding my bump nicely.. maybe like a bump band does?
Or maybe I'm sticking my stomach out to try to keep these stupid over the bump trousers from falling down and the bump is still too small to make them feel secure.

Manoodledo · 22/05/2013 16:20

I had the same sort of experience on the baby names thread too. Unfortunately, it has actually put me off the name although DH is still very keen on it. I have a girl's name I'm kind of stuck on now. I find I'm thinking of the baby as that name (even though we don't know if it even is a girl!). However, DH says he doesn't like it. I'm hoping he might change his mind. He has a boys name he's fixed on that I like but know will raise a few eyebrows and I don't know how I feel about that. However, I don't have an alternative to offer.

badguider · 22/05/2013 16:25

I'm not sharing my name... DH and I agreed on a boys name in about 30seconds long before we knew which we were having.. had no idea about girls' names.. thankfully we're having a boy :)

RunningBear78 · 22/05/2013 16:52

Juniper I just cried laughing, that is brilliant!
I'm out in Marple ... I think we need a South Manc RL catch up!

I haven't told anyone about the names we've been thinking of ... other than a hundred odd people on MN, but that doesn't count does it?

Kittenkatzen · 22/05/2013 17:50

Definitely doesn't count telling online people although I'm not sharing either Grin. We're not telling anyone in rl, much to my mum's disgust! Learnt our lesson early on when we casually mentioned a couple of names we liked and had everyone offer us their (mostly) negative opinions and start making "helpful" suggestions....put a swift stop to that I can tell you!

badguider I'm the opposite to you and finding over bump jeans much more comfy - I find I have to keep hitching up the under bump ones!

jennimoo · 22/05/2013 19:05

The name thing is yet another one everyone gives their opinion on without asking. With DD we were sure of the name and refused to tell. Some relatives would then just say names at us and say they were terrible. What if that had been the name we had picked?!

kimjayne · 22/05/2013 19:13

hehe, I remember a friend posting that video a few months ago juniper! its brilliant and spot on. I sing it to the hubby when ever I eat Hallumi Grin have you seen some of the other songs they did? they made one about Parrs Wood school!
Im liking the fact we have some local Didsbury and South Manch preggy ladies on here. Smile im gonna be looking out for you all in tesco! Out of curiosity, I dont suppose anyone else goes to the yoga classes on a sat in didsbury virgin gym?

fl0b0t · 22/05/2013 19:49

Creamtea1- that's it. I give up on pregnancy. Why does everything have to be competative?! I'm glad I'm not doing NCT, don't want to meet other mummy friends if they're all going to spend all day comparing everything to get some oneupmanship! I think I shall be a hermit instead!

herewego2 · 22/05/2013 19:50

I went to that yoga class on Saturday morning at Virgin gym with my DS1 and it was really good. I swear its one of the reasons we had a smooth birth. I cant make the Saturday morning ones but have noticed the same class is available on Tuesday eve that I'll try to get to. I'm not sharing potential names either.... I can't stand all the public property / judgement / competition thing when you're preg. I've got a really, really good long ter friend who I know would do anything for me but when I'm pregnant says the most awful things about the way I look when I'm pregnant. She did it again on Friday: "oooh look at your tummy, we'll have to get you a wheel barrow soon to help you cart that about. It's def true that your stomach muscles don't hold as well on the second one". I wouldn't mind but I'm actually a dress size less and so much fitter than I was with my first. She would never normally comment on weight if I wasnt preg. I think I'll avoid her now 'til the baby is born......

fl0b0t · 22/05/2013 19:50

Oh also as my link fialed to work before lets try again:
www.frimleypark.nhs.uk/services/parent-education-workshops
There is NO info on there about HOW to book, right? Not me being pregnant and stupid?

andadietcoke · 22/05/2013 20:14

kimjayne and herewego do you have to be a member to go to that class? I was supposed to be going to one in Hazel Grove but I never seem to leave work in time (it's on a Tuesday evening) so don't want to commit to a course of 5 lessons that have to be taken within 7 weeks!

Love the didsbury video Smile

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 22/05/2013 20:15

It's the first sentence, fl0b0t my love. Your MW should have given you an email address. along with a hundred other contacts for things no doubt

kimjayne · 22/05/2013 21:00

andadietcoke - im not a member but you can just pay each time u go. its £6 a week. The woman who teaches it (anna) is lovely if not a bit crazy (in a good way) and considering im a real stress head normally I always come away feeling more confident about birth and generally less stressed. I would definitely recommend it. Aplarently the tuesday nights are the busier/more popular lessons but I cant get there on time after wrk.
hope this helps Smile

Anyone elses baby permanently lying sideways in transverse position? Wonder if position influenced by low lying placenta but man alive its getting more painful the longer baby is getting!
