Just starting a new thread as we're starting to run out of room on the first. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1716486-December-2013#38680515

Been working a lot recently. Only just catching up with all the posts.
dutchy so sorry to hear your sad news. Hope your managing to relax a little.
I'm feeling a little better. Nausea seems to appear when I'm hungry so seems like I'm constantly eating. Had a bath last night and DH said I deffo look pregnant. Apparently my tummy is pointed! People at work have started to touch my pot belly too. They think its funny as I've always been quite slim.
Got my first midwife appointment on Monday when ill be 9 weeks. Can't wait for my first scan :-)

Holly1977 · 10/05/2013 10:35

Running is fine if you're used to it. Really kicking myself now for getting out of the habit before I got pg. My yoga teacher won't let me go in the first trimester but that's ashthanga yoga which is very physically demanding and hot. Though another asththanga woman said it was fine. If I ever get round to it, i'll do some at home. Pregnant yoga is usually just for 12 weeks plus. You could do hatha yoga I reckon, that's pretty much for old people anyway. Though whether an instructor would be ok with you joining is debatable. I've done no exercise for 2-3 weeks but mainly just cos I don't seem to have been able to find any time. I'm going for a swim today and am going to start cycling again next week. The good thing about yoga is it teaches you to breathe properly and have more control over your breathing, I am hopeful this will help come the big day!

Really giddy about seeing the midwife this afternoon! Feeling full of the joys at the mo, suspect this is mainly due to being on a massive detox, no longer having constant colitis induced diarrhoea and eating more healthily than normal :-)

Holly1977 · 10/05/2013 10:39

Oh and is anyone else have problems concentrating at work? I just can't seem to motivate myself to give a shit about anything non baby related!!

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 10/05/2013 11:23

Hi! I'm quite new to mumsnet, I don't know how these threads work Blush
I know it sounds silly but do I need to read the whole thread?
I'm due 17th dec with babba number 2. Babba number 1 is going to be 18 months when I have new baby (ouch!)

Iris1 · 10/05/2013 11:30

Hi everyone. Had a scan wed morning and everything is great. Im now almost ten weeks and officially due 9th December. So glad to finally know what is going g on and that everything is ok. Because I'm so far they have used as dating scan. Seeing midwife in just over aweek for booking in.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Im massive too. Really obvious pregnant but im on baby number 3 and have massive babies so that might have something to do with it xx

b0nker5Mum · 10/05/2013 12:02

Iris, glad the scan went well.... We are due on the same day....

Madbanners, welcome and congrats, there are so many threads you'll probably get the gist... I'm pretty new to forums as well...

Holly... I am finding it almost impossible to concentrate... Hence posting on mumsnet!!!

FluffyDucky · 10/05/2013 12:13

This is where having a flabby tum is helpful! I'm small and av a size 10 but my tum had never been flat or really toned. If I push on my flab I can feel the firmness under but I dont think you would know to look at me (apart from the boobs!)

Tamof4 · 10/05/2013 12:20

Hello. I'm getting all mixed up with these threads, and don't know if I've already posted on this one!
Found out last week that I'm expecting my 5th child. 'twas a bit a shock!
My two anxieties with this pregnancy are : Telling my parents /mil and the other is hoping its not multiples this time. As much as I adore my twins, I don't think I could go there again!
I'm due 28th dec. Have the semblance of a bump already so not sure how much longer I can hide this ;-)

Tamof4 · 10/05/2013 12:25

Haha, I've just read my post back. Erm, I do have more than two anxieties! Could someone add me to the list please, I'm computer illiterate.

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 10/05/2013 12:32

Thank you bonkers! I've been a member for a while but not really posted until recently.
Am feeling pretty sofa ridden and have zilch energy, nausea, you name it! I really, really forgot what the first stages are like. Bring on 2nd tri! It's great to know everyone is more or less in the same boat!

Are there any multiples out there? Lots in both our families so may be a possibility for us!

Iris1 · 10/05/2013 12:34

Thanks bonkersmum. Its exciting to think here will be a gorgeous newborn at xmas time.
Welcome to those who are new and conrats. You will soon catch up these threads mive pretty fast just join in where you can thats what I do.

I have my sisters wedding in two weeks and if I don't fit in my bridesmaids dress she will go ape!! Its pretty stretchy round the tum but is very fitted so im gonna look very pregnant. Just glad ive had my scan now so dont mind everyone at the wedding knowing instead of trying to hide it.
Should prob cut down on the crap food but cant healthy foods make me nauseous and i was so healthy normally! But i need to eat - chippy for dinner in a min :/ x

Holly1977 · 10/05/2013 12:44

I've been thinking about the whole food thing. On reflection, I don't think I'm eating LOADS more than normal. It's more that when I'm hungry, I'm really fu**king hungry and have to eat immediately whereas before I could always put eating off and used to skip meals when I couldn't be arsed and stuff. I'm definitely eating better though, more fruit, veg, fruit juice, fewer takeaways etc. Still eating the same amount of chocolate as ever but that's been a life long thing! We're going to the pictures and for a Nando's tomorrow night. I am SO excited about this, about as excited as I used to get about going out on the piss or clubbing! Don't think I'll be having any booze at all as I know it'll just make me want a fag and another drink so probably best to just not bother.

inkymomma · 10/05/2013 13:02

Madbanners. I think we've spoken before as we are due on the same day :-)

Dasie · 10/05/2013 13:29

Morning ladies,

I have bought a doppler from Amazon and it arrived this morning. They blurb says it works from 12 weeks but I'm 10+3/4 and I found the babies heartbeat, it was so bloody lovely to hear and I've had to move myself away from the doppler or I could have laid there for hours listening to the heartbeat. Very very reassuruing!!

On the eating topic I cannot stop! I'm starving constantly!!! I've gone from eating a very strict no carb, no fat diet pre-pregnancy to eating everything in my path!!!
Grin

b0nker5Mum · 10/05/2013 14:42

That's good to hear daisy, I was going to ask when you are likely to hear as I could only see from 12 weeks on the amazon ones... Maybe I shall invest in one now because I'm too impatient and now I know they work (I'm 10 weeks on sun/mon so if I ordered one now I'd be roughly at the same stage (which one did you go for??)

b0nker5Mum · 10/05/2013 14:48

Sorry, dasie!

Dasie · 10/05/2013 15:30

Bonkers I got the Sonoline B, it was around £50 but there are ones alot cheaper than that. I chose that model as I wanted the LCD display with the heartrate counter. I only got one small sachet of gel with it though but luckily had ordered an extra bottle of gel at the same time (anticipating a lot of use over the next few weeks!)

Dasie · 10/05/2013 15:31

Oh and it took me ages to find the heartbeat so don't panic if you struggle. Seems I was aiming a little to low down to begin with!

5ammy · 10/05/2013 15:46

I thought I heard my babies beat yesterday - very fast, certainly wasn't my heart beat, but it was higher up then I expected.

I tried again last night with the husband there, but he was so impatient, when I couldn't find it within 30 seconds he decided it wasn't going to be found! Typical

I'm really tired today, feel sick, fat, and cried because my husband is telling me we can't go on holiday anywhere long haul - he then decided that even Greece is too far when I'm pregnant and I shouldn't be on a plane for that long....

I wouldn't mind so much but I'm cabin crew - not like the bump has never been on a flight before.

Think it's my hormones!

Holly1977 · 10/05/2013 18:54

Had my booking in appointment with the midwife this afternoon. She was absolutely lovely, I'm really pleased. She said she'll send the fax off today for the scan and I should get a letter through with a scan date next week. She said it'll happen between weeks 10 and 14 and that they do do the nuchal scan. I'll wait and see when the date is and then decide about getting a private scan.

She gave me a huge pack of stuff, a lot of which was just advertising crap which I've chucked! But lots of good stuff too.

But the big thing we talked about which I'm really excited about is the possibility of having a home birth! She said I'm low risk and you can have a water birth, gas and air and even pethadine at home. You get 2 midwives once you're in active labour apparently. She also said that there's a brand new midwife lead birthing centre at my local hospital (bradford) which sounds great and has 2 birthing pools. Initially I said no way to a home birth but after talking about it for a bit, it sounds great. I HATE hospitals. I'm not scared of them, I just hate them. I hate the noise, all the sick people (!) the lack of privacy, the crappy linen, everything! I've never actually had to stay in hospital and it's literally one of my biggest fears. I take my own pillows with me on the rare occasions I stay at a friend's house, I'm a bit of a princess when it comes to where I sleep. So the possibility of being able to give birth in the comfort of my own home is really wonderful. She said you can change your mind whenever you want and if anything goes wrong, they call an ambulance and the hospital is about 10 minutes away. She also said that labour can be a lot easier at home because you're less stressed. I think you have to buy the pool yourself but that's ok. Imagine all the stress you'd avoid by not having to go to hospital. Then you could all just be in your own bed together rather than some horrible bed on a ward other people there. I've always said I want to get home asap after the birth so giving birth at home means I don't have to go anywhere potentially! Am going to read up about it on the website she told me about and discuss with DF. Also going to talk to doctor friends and people who have had babies. My 2 best friends have had pretty horrendous experiences giving birth in hospital, for different reasons, but they both said one of the worst things was the other people (chavs particularly) screaming and shouting and swearing. Maybe that's just what you get for living in Yorkshire?! ;-)

Also, you're guaranteed to have a water birth if it's at home unlike in hospital where it's a bit of a lottery cos they've only got 2 pools and it's obviously pot luck when you go in. All my friends wanted a water birth but none of them got it.

So has anyone here had a home birth or know anyone who has? Thoughts?

b0nker5Mum · 10/05/2013 19:11

Holly, my midwife said we should seriously consider a home birth as my previous labour (16 years ago!!!) was very quick (and a little easy but I think I have a high pain threshold!), I'm not so sure but will think about it.... Sort of burying my head about that far down the line...!

NomDeClavier · 10/05/2013 19:19

Oh gosh yes to home birth if you can holly

If we were in the UK I'd be booking one like a shot. Some friends have had amazing experiences, as did a couple of ladies on my thread with DS.

I have a dating scan the 27th May. The woman on the phone practically had a heart attack when I said my last period was January but various biological impossibilities mean I can't have conceived before mid-March....

13loki · 10/05/2013 19:20

I had an (accidental) home birth. My 2yo decided that a 4 day first stage of labour would be fun, followed by waking me up at 5:15 with contractions, and me telling hub to call hospital and say we were going in. While he talked to the midwife I had to say we weren't going in as I could feel the amniotic sac bulging between my legs. The fast response paramedic got there about 5:40, as she was crowning, and I had her at 5:45. The ambulance made it about 5:50 and the midwife got in about 6:15. It was quite nice as no one else got to hold her as the cord wasn't cut and the placenta wasn't delivered until the midwife got there.

Apart from the paramedic bring an empty canister of entonox, it was better than I expected. Needed to buy a new mattress topper, though. And I am still waiting for the paracetamol I asked hub to get me just before I told him we weren't going anywhere.

I'm actually getting a little bit stressy about it now, they don't do home births here (middle of Sweden) in the bigger cities there are some private midwives who do home birth, but not in my town, and we will be living 25 minutes from the hospital with no traffic, 35 minutes in peak hour. As if having a child in the wrong language isn't hard enough!

Holly1977 · 10/05/2013 19:34

Thanks guys, that's lovely to hear. I'm starting to love the idea and the midwife seems really keen. I was thinking about protecting my bedding, carpets and sofa when I went for a swim earlier! Lots of old towels and a plastic sheet on the bed I reckon!

That does sound worrisome loki, hope it works out. Have you learned how to say "give me the fucking drugs" yet?!! ;-)

Just treated myself to fish and chips AND scraps. Been craving it for a week and finally relented. Soooooo amazing! Nearly peed my pants with excitement on the way home!

NomDeClavier · 10/05/2013 19:44

13loki any recently trained MWs should have enough English to cope with emergency births - or at least someone on the service should. Most European courses have a compulsory English component now. My current cohort have to write a summary of their dissertation in English and pass the TOEIC. It's well worth establishing which of the MWs do have the necessary skills and getting the hospital to arrange the rotas around the time you're due with that in mind. Does your DP speak Swedish? I know even with fluent French I was incapable of forming sensible utterances but luckily DH was on hand to translate.

What are medical services in your area like? Would someone be able to get there if you have another quick birth?

My nearest home birthing midwife is an hour away :( I would so love a home birth :(
